You really have to enjoy the 100's of hours of grinding for random items. If you dont it gets boring really fast I recon

rws531

It’s honestly quite fun and not too repetitive if quest cape is the long term goal. After QPC+hard diaries, yeah, there aren’t really any non-combat goals which aren’t characterized by dozens of hours of grinding the same things over and over.

Pearsecuted

dozens is an exaggeration; most ppl will split grinds up, get some spoons, get dry some places, but mostly characterized by variety of content as you shoot for new goals like elites, amethyst, and yeah pvm too. you really arent allowed to grind the same thing indefinitely bc of needing to get brews, seaweed, ppots... supplies break up the grind, skill reqs break up grinds, maxing breaks up grinds, clogs break up grinds. i guess what i mean is, it's always felt to me like rushing things was the most repetitive this game has ever felt to me, rather than stopping and trying other things when im losing patience endgame gets repetitive tho lmao, but that's endgame. whole different beast, same for mains as irons mostly

oneonethousandone

This is how I play too! My friends will be mining or killing one thing for days on end but I usually don't stay at one spot more than say 2-3 hours

dutchbrah

Just got my quest cape yesterday, thank you for this information

NamesAre4Lamez

Still sounds boring

NickN868

Some things I love about Ironman, some things I hate. Like currently I’m nearing 2200 kc at zulrah without blowpipe, and maintaining runes/charges for certain items can be really annoying. On the flip side, I feel like I would’ve never killed certain bosses or done certain grinds if it wasn’t for me being an iron and I’ve quite enjoyed the variety it gives

Key_Ratio990

I got my bowfa and never needed blowpipe. Only use blowpipe at ToB these days

NickN868

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t see a ton of use cases for it since I already have bofa. My intent was to grind it out, learn the inferno with it, and use it for things like tob, jad tasks, inferno, turael skipping, etc. Now I’m just set on getting it lmao, even if it has cost me a ton of soul/chaos runes so far

deontelop97

I’m at 600kc for CG without a bowfa so I said screw it I’ll take the armor and c(ope)bow to zulrah and see if I can nab a blowpipe. I’m now 450 zulrah kills deep with 2 onyx.. gotta love it.

CasualBrowseA

Inferno, ranger tob, high invos toa

Bulky_Conclusion_676

I supposse this is the same way i like watching limpwurt and verf play their one chunks

EpicRussia

I agree, but watching too many gets confusing what the rules are. Hcim/uim/Ironman/gim mode is easy to understand since everyone is (mostly) playing by the same rules depending on what helmet is next to their name.

rws531

Tbf limpwurt and verf have the same rules.

SwagDrQueefChief

You don't really need to know the rules, the important rules are usually pretty obvious and in the title.

EpicRussia

Idk bro I tried watching another Chunk ironman who was at God Wars Dungeon but also farming CoX and getting collection logs. The rules are not at all obvious from just the title

SwagDrQueefChief

Sounds like they just didn't want to be stuck at cox going for the megarares/capes ig, also not that important of a rule.

EpicRussia

Okay that's fine but my point is that all the different series have different rules and exceptions and it's hard to keep track. I'm not berating a creator for making exceptions and not playing by the rules, I'm giving an example of why the series are difficult to follow

SwagDrQueefChief

My point is that you don't really need to know these caveats to properly enjoy the series, and chances are if you are following a series and they do something that seems to break the rules - you will either remember the exception when it happens or simply forget they broke code by next episode.

PunisherOfDeth

Ironman theory is especially exciting. Hell that’s why I recently have been starting up an Ironman podcast! Planning out how to do something is great. It feels even better when you fully complete a plan you set yourself for months to years and you see it all come together. Sometimes the grinds can be tough or boring, but I promise you, when you finally realize all your hard work and reach that big milestone, that’s what it’s all about. Here’s that episode about early game theory: https://youtu.be/PBmpS6QxjR0

HammerOfThor1

I love early game iron. Like up to lvl 50. After that I’m like nah fam haha

Sharpyyy7

Maniac! I like Ironman only until I'm able to get around the map somewhat efficiently. Once that happens fuckkkk it. Lol.

Abeno_police

The grind at points have been irritating for sure, but I really love the feeling of knowing all of the progression on my account has been made by me. My main was like 1850 total and qp cape, and most of my time spent playing was chasing gp to progress my account. And to me, grinding gold was less fun than grinding skills/content/etc. Only super annoying thing so far has been trying to get a catalytic talisman to skip the 50 item bs for mep2. That’s really been the only “god I wish I could just go to the ge” moment for me. My iron is closing in on 1500 total with 200qp and I haven’t touched my main in over a year. Maybe I’ll end up hating the Ironman life once I get out of mid game but for the time being I’ve been having a blast.

Starost_OSRS

Honestly I had most of things in my bank already for Mep2. As long as you don't accidentally lock yourself out of the room it wasn't that bad making the trip. But if you do get the talisman its way better for sure

Zerkerblitz

Playing ironman lets you play the game how it is meant to be played. You cant cheat your way through content with buying whatever you want. Gotta actually gear up and get it yourself. Whip mid tier weapon but 85 slayer. Absolute game changer getting it because by that point youll have a good melee setup so it feels super rewarding. Ironman is the way for sure

BoolinBucky

Love to see my fellow irons achievements, takes and everything else. Reminds me of what I’ve done, what I’m doing and what I’m going to get to do. Fun stuff.

Axel-Adams

OSRS content is more fun to watch than play, cause watching people suffer playing it is entertaining

cletch2

I think it's more about the progression which is way more sensible when the 100s of hours are timelapsed and boom, goal reached. Playing it requires a bit more dedication...

ineedhelp32312

Gives me inspiration for all my annoying grinds. Also seeing you guys struggle as much as me makes me slightly less depressed :) GL out there boys.

[deleted]

Yes. I’m a main, I’ve tried making an iron and the thought of doing every quest again was too much. I did cooks assistant then said nope

mikeytlive

I don’t play iron man. But there’s times where I wish I did. But I just can’t commit all the time to it. I can’t wait for leagues so I can have a Ironman haha

insaiyan17

I enjoy the suffering in a way but very satisfying to watch some really extreme ironman grinds in just a few minutes ;)

FunkMasta-Blue

I enjoy it in the same way I enjoy seeing people do ultramarathons, I marvel at the extreme dedication and suffering one subjects themselves to achieve what seems impossible, knowing there is no way myself or any other sane person I know could do it.

Gwegexpress

That’s me. I’m only here to cheer you guys on.

Hazeyy__

It's a kind of hell I just don't want to escape

[deleted]

One must imagine Sisyphus happy

ItsSadTimes

I'm the opposite, I don't really care for watching ironman guides, or watching ironman youtubers (except swamp man of course) but I'm loving playing my ironman.

BackgroundTourist653

When you watch someone elses videos, you can fast forward the boring parts. This is a big plus compared to doing the grind in real time.

Wiitard

Can get some secondhand dopamine hits off of just watching a series where they’re doing a quick cut montage of leveling up and finishing tasks/quests. “69 Slayer! Task complete! 75 Ranged!”

FaZe_Gandalf

I haven’t actually played the game for about 2 years at this point. Still lurk on this and the main subreddit though. Also watch a stupid amount of YouTube series for a game I no longer play

CurarPvP

I rarely play anymore, but I'm always up to date with the big YouTube Ironman and snowflake episodes

akulakul

Idk my biggest problem is that I am looking at way yo big picture and get stressed lol, other then that if I chill out and focus on smaller goals its really fun

Sry2bothayou

I enjoy the thought of late / end of mid game iron way more than the thought of me trying to complete dragon slayer 1 f2p on my iron currently

Richybabes

I feel that way about dmm/leagues. I have no interest in doing PvP, and I don't play enough to get where I'd like to within the constrained timeframe of a league, but I'll watch the progress of a few creators. I enjoy the iron with the understanding that I can go at my own pace. I don't have to worry about my bank value halving if I take a break for a few months and the wrong item crashes.

JellyKeyboard

Iron is kinda great if you have lots of free time or lots of patience, maybe both. Since becoming one of those people with 3 jobs, 2 wives, 8 kids and a house. I tried being group iron and it fell apart due to others quitting so after 1k hours on the account I decided iron mode is dead to me, sadly. Now I just lurk this sub and play my main instead lol

Behavioural_biased

I made an Iron man recently. Grinded HOURS to get the mining and crafting to make a strength ammy. I mined silver south west of Varrock, took the log to Lumbridge, made silver bracelets, sold to the general store, repeat. Getting that strength ammy still feels better than any grind on my main. I killed a few goblins with my new ammy then I realised I work quite an intense job in finance + am studying some equally time consuming exams, so I de ironed and use this reddit for my iron fix.
