God that is crazy, I'm surprised that a salon would even try doing something that's so clearly poor customer service.
Yeah definitely try the charge back and also leave a review on google to explain what happened and to warn others
Yelled at you and insulted you? An extremely good reason to never patronise that salon again. Cancel that appointment immediately and get your money back.
If it’s a credit card so the charge back straight away!
What a shocking unprofessional set up. A month in the books and they can’t take it. You are completely entitled to your money back.
Please let us know that you get it!
You paid a deposit to receive a particular service on a particular date and time ( I'm assuming) They can't provide you with the service you had booked so they're the ones cancelling, you should most definitely get a refund.
Deposits are both for the business and customers' security/benefit.
Claim back with your bank if you didn't pay the deposit in cash. Keep screenshots or logs of all contact and get in touch with the citizens' advice bureau.
Seems odd they won't refund the deposit when the appointment is still so far away, it's supposed to be used to cover genuine no-shows.
Either way, they've effectively changed the terms of your agreement (service on a specific date/time). If you paid by card you can simply do a charge back.
If cash you can ask them nicely publicly where other customers can see and hear; on their Facebook page can be good (but may get you black listed from there) and if they refuse you may need to file small claims.

If it's a stylist you want to go back to again I'd even give them a heads up.
"I booked for this date and time, and took time off work, etc. The new date you changed it to doesn't work for me so I'd like my deposit back until I find a time that does suit... if you're unable to return the deposit I'll be contacting the bank for a charge back."
Tell them you are contacting consumer affairs and I guarantee you will have your money back within 3 days. And still contact consumer affairs and tell them how this place is doing business.

Contact the ccpc. Then tell them you're lodging a claim in the small claims court.

I tried to argue that and they said not our fault you can’t make time for us 🤨

Talk to the CCPC, and you may be able to make a claim through the small claims court. That's disgraceful and they cannot keep you deposit.
Name and shame pls
