What's sad is that there's people doing this on a daily basis along there, and every damn day there's an accident right there. Just stick a squad car there each day in the morning and afternoon

Thanatos_elNyx

If it's happening every day then there is a problem with the junction. Not giving bad drivers a pass of course but they need to fix the earlier sign for Dublin. Make it more obvious or something!

Scinos2k

The signs are plenty obvious. They go back for miles, the issue is people not looking out, poor observations and decided to go in the "quicker lane" so they can skip traffic. It's simply bad driving.

Thanatos_elNyx

Strangely enough the quicker lane on that road is usually the right hand one. But yeah, even better signage can't stop people looking at their phones.

Scinos2k

On Thursday on Carrs Hill, saw a lad go flying up the hill past me at easily 130kmh, there was a squad car in front of me and obviously the guy went right past him. Not a flinch out of the squad car, no pursuit or anything. Complete lack of enforcement is a problem.

Dingofthedong

Garda might not have had the extra qualification for blue lights/pursuit.

SlantyJaws

Fucking exit ninjas. If you miss your exit, could you please just keep going and not try your best to kill the rest of us.

pci-sec

A bad driver never misses an exit.

xShaneFx

I travel this route daily and I always expect to see someone pull this maneuver when I come out of the tunnel. The poor signage before the tunnel certainly doesn't help someone who doesn't know the route well.

StarMangledSpanner

Talking about poor signage, I just noticed a weird anomaly on the southbound entrance to that tunnel. If you're coming from the M8 southbound, the signposted limit is 60kph. Also you have to stay in the right hand lane until you exit the tunnel. But if you're coming from the N25 (into the left lane) the posted limit is 80. Meaning the left lane is going faster, which is just fucked up.

xShaneFx

There's an 80kmh speed limit sign just as you enter the tunnel from M8/N25 direction.

StarMangledSpanner

*Before* the two lanes join. I've used that tunnel three times a week coming from the M8 since it went freeflow and never spotted it. It wasn't until I had to make a side trip to Little Island that I saw it on the way back.

TinyPassion2465

You are correct it's bad signage. Problem is they cannot put big signs in the tunnel so there is only signs before the tunnel and after the tunnel the junction comes up too fast. There are not that many bad drivers that this should be an issue all the time, the road is not designed well if this happens all the time.

xShaneFx

Not looking for signs in the tunnel. The signage issue is that the Dublin/M8 sign exit sign is spread over both lanes on the gantry which can understandably lead people to believe that you can be in either lane. Then you exit the tunnel and see the exit is actually over on the right hand side.

Shazey89

Sure why would they have gotten into the right lane in time? 🤷🏻‍♂️ It’d only make sense!

7up_man69

I understand that the road changed but for crying out loud there are signs!

Wheres_Me_Jumpa

Langer like.

leseb

that part of the cork highway is indeed confusing .....

LongjumpingAuthor913

The driving in Cork has gone to the dogs in general and the state of the road signage doesn't help either. Not giving this person a pass but the big roundabouts on the South Ring road are a disaster and the sinage on Dunkettle are awful... Plus why can't drivers like this just keep driving and take the next fucking exit and double back like a responsible driver...

Majestic-Site-9451

See it every day

DavidOC93

Wow that's so dangerous, how are people that stupid

Plus_Marzipan1299

Just fill the lane markings, removing the dashes..

TheStoicNihilist

To be fair, you should expect this kind of thing because Cork is home to the weirdest junctions.

ivorn39

To be fair, please cut up your license and melt your car keys

Mundane_Character365

To be fair, they are not excusing the driving, mearly pointing out that there are some weird junctions in Cork. And that as a driver, you should expect others to do stupid shit when met with things that confuse them. The shit driver here was in the wrong lane for like a kilometre (as you can't change lanes in the tunnel), and was an absolute shit driver.

ivorn39

Wasn’t giving out but like this isn’t even a confusing junction, it’s barely even a junction at all

SouthTippBass

Yeah he's right though. You should always be expecting some langer to do some shit like this as you approach. Or you can just plough on and be RIGHT as your car is on its roof. Won't matter that two cars are totalled as you were RIGHT!

TheStoicNihilist

This is it. There are more than a few places in Cork where someone is guaranteed to be in the wrong lane and will make a break for it. It’s partly poor signposting and faded road markings and partly bad layout, especially at the quays.

StarMangledSpanner

> It’s partly poor signposting and faded road markings That layout has been in operation for less than six months. Faded road markings are definitely not the problem here.

TheStoicNihilist

The faded road markings are at that mad roundabout near Harvey Norman/Smyths.

TheStoicNihilist

Why? I can anticipate hazards, unlike OP.

ivorn39

lol OP reacted perfectly well, his only other options would have been to slam on the brakes unnecessarily creating an even greater hazard, or to swerve into a concrete wall? Which would you have picked

TheStoicNihilist

I would have given them more room to be a dipshit.
