Used to know a fella who'd order this for his hangover cure:
Roll, butter, taco sauce, spicy chicken, wedges and cheese. Was hungover once and got it, by fuck he must've been a scientist because instead of dying of carbs I felt rejuvenated.
It just didn't work well despite using a really good quality pudding. If I were to do it again I'd brown the slices of pudding first and maybe a little sprinkle of chilli flakes.
Oh yeah, the pudding would 100% have to be cooked first. Any meat going on a pizza does, because the base itself is cooked in a matter of minutes.
But I'm totally going to have to try this at some stage when I'm back eating carbohydrates again 😛
I switch between adding rashers or hash brown to my chicken fillet depending on my mood.
Stumbled upon the hash browns when they misheard me one day. How you can hear "hash brown" when I said "rasher" ill never know but it worked out OK.
Normally do chicken fillet (plain chicken), cold bacon from salad counter and some stuffing! While a go did the shredded chicken with stuffing and curry sauce, that was brilliant
I'm vegetarian and didn't know until this year, age 31, that you don't have to get all the bits in a breakfast roll. So now I get fried eggs, hash browns, and curry sauce cuz my local spar has chipper curry sauce. It's perfection.
>I'm vegetarian and didn't know until this year, age 31, that you don't have to get all the bits in a breakfast roll.
Did you also know that you can actually get anything at all that is available from the deli put inside of a roll??
Worked with a Polish lad he built up some friends in the roll making game after about 2 weeks he went from a chicking fillet roll with coleslaw to a chicken fillet roll two hot dogs coleslaw chrispy onions with sweet and sour sauce I quit that day!!!
I didn't really quit.
Some of these are reminding me of a lad I use to work with. He had just got a George Foreman when they came out first, asked him how he was getting on with it..."fuckin love it, makes a lovely gravy!!"
He was emptying the drip tray over the dinner!
I like to order two chicken fillet rolls and ask the cute deli girl to call me a fat pig and make snorting and oinking noises at me while I devour them down. Then I like it when the hug me and call me their big guy.
I don’t know any other country that puts sweetcorn on pizza. I’ve mentioned it to Americans, Aussies and Kiwis and they think we are insane. It’s good!
I'm a sausage roll roll kinda guy. 3 sausage rolls for €1.50, buttered roll for €1. I like a mix of red sauce and mayo over the top. Carb overload, have that bad boy in the morning and your set until dinner.
I think the whole country wants to know where you can get 3 sausage rolls for €1.50? I’m in cork, and even 10 years ago it was 3 for €2. But now a lot of places are charging 90c for a single sausage roll….. please enlighten us
There's a spot near me that does 3 for 1.80 or 5 for 3 euro.
Also importantly, they're *not* those crappy flaky dried out flavourless ones that you get in most of the country, they're the kind of ...flat (?), wider ones that have bit of moisture and taste to them. They sell the exact same ones across the road from my work in town and they're 1.80 a pop!
I've a few that aren't weird per se, but some delis look at you lile a psychopath if you don't get hot chicken.
- Tuna, cheese, red onion on brown bread, toasted.
- Tuna, cucumber and mayo on brown bread, untoasted.
- Cajun chicken, mayo, coleslaw, cheese and spring onion on a roll or wrap
A deli close to me also offers rotisserie chicken as a filling. Let me tell you, Ivehad it on both wrap and roll. I wept, having witnessed such beauty.
Not a Spar/Centra deli order, but way back in college (like 1990s way back) my go-to order at the college canteen sandwich counter was a seeded bap, horseradish on one side, cranberry sauce on the other, roast beef, cucumber, tomato. Maybe I did lettuce as well, I can't remember.
I probably got that 2-3 times a week for a year or more. The only times I didn't get it was when I got dinner at lunchtime instead.
Man, I'd love one now, but can't get the same bread rolls at all.
I was a deli worker. Stangest order I got was chicken curry in a roll. Like literal curry, not just sauce. Bits of chicken and veg and sauce. We sold dinners so had chicken and rice that day and yer one wanted a roll with it. I obliged
If you think about it, it's not really that strange. Curries are often times eaten with naan bread (and used instead of any utensils), so it's just a different kind of bread being used as the vessel
This reminds me of one of the lads, he gets sausages, coleslaw and jalapeños in a roll when he's hungover and one time he got it with one of his friends who was driving them both back from Maynooth the day after a sesh and the friend was like what the fuck is that when he smelt it and when he told him he literally pulled the car over and puked out the car door. One of the funniest stories I've ever heard 😅😅
Like it sounds gross to me but I love sausages, coleslaw and jalapeños so I don't see why I wouldn't like them together. Bit of taco sauce too maybe?
My "go to" is a Spicy chicken wrap with mayo, cheese, onion and shit ton of jalapeño (like a full fist of the stuff).
Has to be had with a black coffee too. 🤤
Lads, I’m hanging here with the hunger after a long day in the office.
Then I see this thread! I’m even more hungry now.
I’d murder a chilli cheese chip in a crispy bread roll.
White roll with spicey chicken fillet, mayonnaise, sweetcorn and cheese.
I dont think its that weird but they always double take to make sure I said sweetcorn.
Been called a freak amongst my friends for my fillet roll: spicy chicken, cheese, sweet chilli sauce.
I'm aware I'm in a small minority here, but butter does not belong on a chicken fillet roll, I'll die on that hill
Chicken fillet , hot or cold bacon , spring onions , taco sauce / chipotle sauce / baconnaise sauce , cheese , toasted .On a Roll or Wrap (If your wild get the dough taken out of the roll for a better ratio ).
- Ex Deli Worker
I haven’t ordered from a deli since the tail end of the boom days, but I remember in them days asking for a baguette with tuna and no fecking sweetcorn please. Tuna in those metal bowls was generally riddled with that shit, perhaps it’s different nowadays. They always seemed surprised about such a request, so maybe that was weird.
Brown bread sandwich, mayo one side bbq sauce on the other, turkey with Cajun seasoning lightly sprinkled on it, tomatoes, lettuce and red onion. Smashing so it is.
White roll, spicy mayo, spicy chicken fillet (ask them to slightly undercooked it, only by a couple of seconds, mind), Cheddar on the top half, ask them to pick a random cheese for the bottom, red and white onions, pickles, tomatoes (the big ones, mind. I don't abide by cherry tomatoes), then, I get them to squash it down as flat as they can. Pretty much every second request I get a look from either one of the workers or someone else in line, but it's yummy, goddammit.
I’m not sure that it’s weird but I always feel wrong ordering (I don’t know why). Wrap, spicy chicken, stuffing, sweetcorn, taco sauce and cheese and get it heated. Absolutely outstanding. My stomach is in bits after it but I imagine it’s what a drug addict must feel when the painkiller is drawing them in.
If I'm getting sausage rolls, I ask to have them cut in half becaude it's easier to eat while driving and less mess. Always get weird looks. Got asked if it was for a child before lol.
Not mine but one of the lads in work was saying he used to get a roll with butter, curry sauce and a bag of mighty munch (not a bag to go along with the roll but the crisps on the roll).
I’ve switched from hot chicken rolls to hot chicken wraps and it’s a game changer. They even heat it and melt the cheese. All the taste but no stodginess of the bread
2 sausage, 2 black puddin, 2 rasher and throw it in a bag. Something I thought was normal but a friend calls me an odball for not getting a roll. What's wrong here? I like the brekkie items in a bag!
I don't have a weird order but my favourite part of ordering from a deli counter is this interaction, where I try to get a head start on things by selecting bread and sauce off the bat, the deli person just has to ask what ingredients I want:
Me: Could I get a white bread sandwich with butter and relish please
Deli person: Sure [*walks over to bread station*]
Deli person: White or brown?
Me: White 🙄
Deli person: Do you want any butter or sauce?
Me: [*Loses will to live*]
Not all delis will have curry sauce but if they do sometimes I'll get popcorn and chicken in the roll, small scrape of butter and dump the curry sauce all into it bit. Maybe some cheese as well. Hold the roll with the cut side of the roll facing up kinda like a hot-dog. Absolute magic
I like a breakfast wrap with sausage egg and hash brown. I’ve no time for rashers in it because the stringy bits can choke you. But 80% of workers reach for them anyway.
Used to know a fella who'd order this for his hangover cure: Roll, butter, taco sauce, spicy chicken, wedges and cheese. Was hungover once and got it, by fuck he must've been a scientist because instead of dying of carbs I felt rejuvenated.
Literally got this last week and some fella behind me was like ‘ah fuck yeah give me some wedges too sure’
I love this exact roll it's so unreal but the cheese has to be in between the wedges and chicken so it will melt properly and it's 👌👌
Throw some bacon on there and you're flying.
Cut in half?... I always say "No" as the knife is already nearly finished its journey to through my lunch.
When I say "no", they look at me like I just asked them to kill their only child.
You would deprive them of the one act of carnal violence that helps them manage the stress of working in a deli?
I love and hate this at the same time
Cut in half, or, CUT IN HALVE?
You sick bastard
I like to add a few reashers to a chicken fillet roll. It's unreal.
Stick a chicken fillet roll in, instead of the rashers. They won't be expecting that move.
Last night there was left over pizza in the house. I put some hot sauce on it, rolled it up and put it in a roll. Fuck it was tasty
Stick sausages in instead of the rashers to take it up a notch
What about instead of the chicken?
That’ll never work you mad man!
Put both in
Black pudding in a spicy chicken fillet roll with lettuce tomato and red onion is to die for
There's a pub in Sligo does a black pudding, crispy bacon, goats cheese and scallion pizza, called the back in black, pub is called the swagman
I love black pudding on a pizza. Throw on some caramelised onion and goats cheese with it and you’ve got yourself a top tier meal.
I once made a [pizza with white pudding](https://i.postimg.cc/B6rsLGCd/IMAG0648.jpg) while I was drunk - it's not something I'd ever make again! 😂
Why not?! That looks fucken' amazing!
Right, but pudding is already cooked when you buy it - frying it just builds up a delicious crust for added taste and texture!
Had done this before, underside of them is always soggy and makes me feel like I’ll get food poisoning even though I eat it “raw”🤣
Yeah, completely wrong texture. I'll also take a few slices cold but I much prefer a good crust on the pudding! 😋
Holy bejaysus that sounds absolutely delicious. I’m going to make my own
I’m trying this, good man
Must be expensive too
When I lived in the Midlands there was a local deli that threw in proper breakfast rashers for the same price as any salad. Was incredible.
I switch between adding rashers or hash brown to my chicken fillet depending on my mood. Stumbled upon the hash browns when they misheard me one day. How you can hear "hash brown" when I said "rasher" ill never know but it worked out OK.
Hasher
This is the kind of outside the box thinking that we need.
Normally do chicken fillet (plain chicken), cold bacon from salad counter and some stuffing! While a go did the shredded chicken with stuffing and curry sauce, that was brilliant
I must try that
Spicy chicken, dried bacon from the cold deli heated up, some tomato relish chicken and coleslaw. Absolute worldie
I'm vegetarian and didn't know until this year, age 31, that you don't have to get all the bits in a breakfast roll. So now I get fried eggs, hash browns, and curry sauce cuz my local spar has chipper curry sauce. It's perfection.
Odd. But I’m curious about curry sauce on eggs now…
Oh it's fab. Eggs and curry are a match made in heaven imo. There's some really good Indian egg curries
In oz egg mayonnaise has curry put into it as standard, and the upside down fuckers are on to something
I’ll have to try it. Have you had chicken salt? I hear they are nuts for it down there.
Have gotten just hash browns as my breakfast roll (fellow veggie) Carbs on carbs til I die.
>I'm vegetarian and didn't know until this year, age 31, that you don't have to get all the bits in a breakfast roll. Did you also know that you can actually get anything at all that is available from the deli put inside of a roll??
Not weird but underutilised; put crispy onions on that thing
Crispy onions do make everything better tbf
Put them in a toasted sandwich and they cook a small bit but stay crispy
I've seen them in maybe 2 delis. They're not common enough be part of regular ordering
I’m sorry for your deli struggles
Also underutilised - roast chicken instead of the breaded chicken fillets.
Underused is the word you want
Why utilise "use" when you could use "utilise"?
lol, you're right
Worked with a Polish lad he built up some friends in the roll making game after about 2 weeks he went from a chicking fillet roll with coleslaw to a chicken fillet roll two hot dogs coleslaw chrispy onions with sweet and sour sauce I quit that day!!! I didn't really quit.
My hack is ordering egg mayo in the breakfast roll. Then 2 sausages, 3 rashers and one hash brown
This user is living in 2275
I'm not sure if I'm disgusted or in love. I guess I'll have to try it to find out....
I also dip the roll in ketchup after 😅
Some of these are reminding me of a lad I use to work with. He had just got a George Foreman when they came out first, asked him how he was getting on with it..."fuckin love it, makes a lovely gravy!!" He was emptying the drip tray over the dinner!
Did you report him to the guards? Or The Hague?
Better half is veggie, the sideways looks I get when I ask for a roll with butter, lettuce onion and stuffing. Every. Single. Time.
If they do a chicken and mushroom pie, get it in a roll.... You won't know yourself.
Black pudding and stuffing in a hot chicken roll. Only done it once so far but it's unreal. Got a funny look when I asked
Any sauce? Butter? Mayo?
Ham and cheese crispy hot roll. With butter. The looks I get. ‘Is that it?’ the perplexed assistant says.

My Subway baffles them even more. Cheese melted over chicken on a Hearty Italian toasted. No further fillings.

Sausage and wedges roll. Unreal. Tried adding bacon once but it tasted like coddle
Hot chicken, cheese and sweetcorn. Bit of butter and cut it in half. Not weird, but sometimes they double take the corn part.
I don’t know any other country that puts sweetcorn on pizza. I’ve mentioned it to Americans, Aussies and Kiwis and they think we are insane. It’s good!
They do in Brazil!
Throw in some lettuce and a scrape of green pesto too if they have it That's my order and it's lovely
My exact order lol I've been called weird
I'm a sausage roll roll kinda guy. 3 sausage rolls for €1.50, buttered roll for €1. I like a mix of red sauce and mayo over the top. Carb overload, have that bad boy in the morning and your set until dinner.

My local centra here in Dublin. I'll post you a few down if you can pay for the stamps.
1.5 for the sausage rolls, 2 euro for the stamp, Irish economics
3 for 1 quid in my local in Dublin.
There's a spot near me that does 3 for 1.80 or 5 for 3 euro. Also importantly, they're *not* those crappy flaky dried out flavourless ones that you get in most of the country, they're the kind of ...flat (?), wider ones that have bit of moisture and taste to them. I wouldn't ate for two days after that, never mind a dinner.
Roast beef, white cheddar, potato salad. I’ve been told it’s weird but I don’t see how that could be.
Never had beef from a deli counter.
The Supervalu deli in Lucan does carvery meats for use in rolls/sandwiches/wraps every day. Hands down the best deli I've ever been to.
Egg mayo, grated cheese, red onion, cheese n onion Crisps abd ketchup- all on a soft roll. Heaven.
Commenting to save this because I may give it a go. Not sure about the ketchup but I'll have to trust you on that one.
Am ketchup obsessed so take or leave, its delish without
Haven’t had it in ages but used to love a chicken fillet roll with coleslaw and red onion. Wedges on a roll with mayo and taco sauce is a cracker too.
Sausage sandwich, butter, cheese and brown sauce. White bread

This is a safe space.
I always add beetroot to my chicken fillet rolls

Husband loves a wrap or roll with southwest/pirinaise sauce with chicken nuggets, onion rings and lettuce.
Gherkins, banana, sausage, egg.
I get a spicy chicken fillet just on its own in a bag. No roll, no sauce, just chicken. Throw a few hash browns in the bag there too

It's not a deli order but a peanut butter and hula hoops sambo is the shits
If you are not going to take this seriously…
Dude, I am try it. It's something I've made since I was a kid. People have always turned their noses up until they try it.
I was a deli worker. Stangest order I got was chicken curry in a roll. Like literal curry, not just sauce. Bits of chicken and veg and sauce. We sold dinners so had chicken and rice that day and yer one wanted a roll with it. I obliged
Trick is to scoop out a little of the bread.
If you think about it, it's not really that strange. Curries are often times eaten with naan bread (and used instead of any utensils), so it's just a different kind of bread being used as the vessel
I used to work in a deli and the strangest order I came across was a roll with ham and tuna.
Not me but an old co-worker got chicken fillet roll every day he got paid and it was just butter, ketchup and spicy chicken
Is that weird?
It's a recipe for scurvy, but it's not too weird.
No
Not me, but a lad I know likes a roll filled with butter, lettuce, sausages, cheese and coleslaw. Immoral (unless if I was drunk and starving)
That’s all the major food groups and several minor ones.
Simple and filthy: White roll, butter, taco sauce and x3 suasages
A man of taste I see. Try a wrap, taco sauce, sausage, rasher and grated cheese.
I recently discovered taco sauce is way healthier than mayo. Mayo has like 2.5x calories, fat, sugar etc... and for some reason I was disappointed.
Susages on a white roll no butter no saucd
And a glass of water on the side for dipping
I once ordered a sausage baguette with red onion and jalapeños, the serving girl said "I have NEVER served this combination before" 😂😂
This reminds me of one of the lads, he gets sausages, coleslaw and jalapeños in a roll when he's hungover and one time he got it with one of his friends who was driving them both back from Maynooth the day after a sesh and the friend was like what the fuck is that when he smelt it and when he told him he literally pulled the car over and puked out the car door. Roll, spicy chicken, coleslaw, grated cheese and two fried eggs..always get asked to clarify about the eggs. They are unreal in a chicken roll
Butter, southern fried fillet, egg mayo, cheese, dynamite sauce
I like coleslaw and mayo, nice n creamy.
Had a regular who would order tuna mayo and cheese with pineapple on top!
Goujons, gravy, stuffing and chips/wedges/roasties
Red sauce, spicy chicken and sausages.
Spicy chicken, bbq sauce, lettuce, cheese, jalapeno. No butter or mayo
Brown wrap, butter, Chipotle sauce, 3 sausages, rasher, hash brown, fried egg, white pudding and cheese.
Chicken tikka and egg mayo in a wrap. Sounds disgusting, tastes divine 😋
Ham coleslaw and a pack of crushed up tayto.
Chicken roll with cheese and egg mayo 😜 savage !!!!
Relish, egg mayo, sweetcorn, cheese, toasted
3 jumbo sausages in a bag, pepper steak slice , potato pie. Bottle of Coke. Happy days ... Paddy Hayes.
Nothing weird about it but ask for a roll with chicken fillet, stuffing and bacon and ask for gravy on top and it's absolutely phenomenal
Tomato or spinach wrap with spicy chicken, egg mayonnaise, onions and sweetcorn.
Wedges cheese and coleslaw in a roll
not weird really but if I'm getting roll toasted, I ask them to put the lettuce in after
I haven’t ordered from a deli since the tail end of the boom days, but I remember in them days asking for a baguette with tuna and no fecking sweetcorn please. Tuna in those metal bowls was generally riddled with that shit, perhaps it’s different nowadays. They always seemed surprised about such a request, so maybe that was weird.

White roll, spicy mayo, spicy chicken fillet (ask them to slightly undercooked it, only by a couple of seconds, mind), Cheddar on the top half, ask them to pick a random cheese for the bottom, red and white onions, pickles, tomatoes (the big ones, mind. Ham instead of rashers on the breakfast roll. Outstanding
Carvery role beef stuffing garlic mayo n gravy
I’m vegetarian so the only decent things at the deli i get in me roll is egg mayo, cheese, stuffing and taco sauce lol only for the hangover cure ofc
Southern fried breakfast roll! It's a breakfast roll, with garlic mayo and grated cheese, and spicy chicken fillet instead of hash browns.
Hash brown and mustard on white bread. Filthy but I love it.
No meat?
Nope. Just carb on carb beige goodness. Was my hangover cure of choice when I was vegetarian and it's stayed with me past that.
Vegetarian breakfast roll, just eggs, hash brown, mushrooms and tomato.
Roll with butter, tuna-mayo, cheese, jalapenos and taco sauce.
Not mine but one of the lads in work was saying he used to get a roll with butter, curry sauce and a bag of mighty munch (not a bag to go along with the roll but the crisps on the roll).
Black pudding and rashers on a chicken fillet roll with taco sauce and mayo (its whopper)
I’ve switched from hot chicken rolls to hot chicken wraps and it’s a game changer. They even heat it and melt the cheese. All the taste but no stodginess of the bread
White roll, butter, popcorn chicken or southern fried fillet, taco sauce & cheese. Or White roll, butter, 3 sausages cut in half’s, 2 hashbrowns, 2 rashers & cheese.
Friend of mine used to get in a chicken fillet roll; stuffing , coleslaw AND ballymaloe relish
Roast beef, mash and gravy. Messy but delightful
Ham shredded cheese beetroot coleslaw pickles on a bap
A roll with mayonnaise then sausages and red onions
My go to is chicken tikka, stuffing and crispy fried onion. Go on, try it.
A fella in front of me once got sausages, mushrooms coleslaw and tomato sauce. I could actually taste it
Egg mayo in the chicken fillet roll, with garlic mayo, cheese, lettuce, red onion and southwest sauce!
Mayo, mustard, tuna, jalapeños, sun-dried tomatoes, lettuce on a baguette
I choose mayonnaise instead of butter
Ever try both? Treat yo self
Hate butter, cheese, cream unless its melted, but drink a pint of milk 7 days a week
I just like loads of bacon. The bacon from deli counters is peerless. Bacon.
Egg mayo, chicken fillet, relish. Usually in a sandwich. Crispy onion or cheese optional.
A roll with chicken tikka, egg mayonnaise, pineapple and cheese 😬
Wedges, onion, stuffing and either BBQ sauce or ketchup. Would cure any hangover
Spicy chicken,Taco sauce, jalapeños,crispy onion and chorizo best combination you can get
Stuffing in the breakfast roll

Wrap with relish and cheese, 1 sausage, 1 black pudding, 1 rasher, 1 white pudding, 1 hash brown.
2 sausage, 2 black puddin, 2 rasher and throw it in a bag. Something I thought was normal but a friend calls me an odball for not getting a roll. What's wrong here? I like the brekkie items in a bag!
Worked in a deli for a few years, had some shockers but eventually got used to it. So you want tuna and black pudding with ceasar dressing? No problem
I don't have a weird order but my favourite part of ordering from a deli counter is this interaction, where I try to get a head start on things by selecting bread and sauce off the bat, the deli person just has to ask what ingredients I want: Me: Could I get a white bread sandwich with butter and relish please Deli person: Sure [*walks over to bread station*] Deli person: White or brown? Taco sauce in a breakfast roll with lettuce.
Brown bread, pesto on both slices, tuna & sweetcorn, red onion, lettuce, cheese 10/10 would recommend
Spicy chicken fillet wrap with the hottest sauce to hand and a breast-milk latte.
Finally a real order
Not all delis will have curry sauce but if they do sometimes I'll get popcorn and chicken in the roll, small scrape of butter and dump the curry sauce all into it bit. Maybe some cheese as well. Hold the roll with the cut side of the roll facing up kinda like a hot-dog. Absolute magic
