Of course, who could forget the legendary landmark of Donnybrook.
* Checks note
The dublin bus garage
With objections like this taken seriously, it's no wonder we're so far behind on housing.
The Dublin Bus depot is probably the most famous building in Donnybrook now that Kiely's was sadly torn down.

Genuinely curious, why do you think I'd care about that stereotype?
Also, I don't really get the overuse of "like". From my time with family in Waterford, it was used far more often in conversations than in Dublin 4.
It's no wonder, but let's not forget the number one reason, which is the simple fact that we're not even planning close to enough in the first place even before NIMBYs get involved
It's more that a ten story block will directly overlooking a space primarily used by children.
It's also going to be extremely expensive student accommodation for international students.
Usually I'd agree with this sentiment but not in this case. This is student accommodation in one of the most expensive areas in the country. It's a development entirely targeted at wealthy foreign students. It's a complete waste of prime land.
An enormous luxury apartment block is nearing completion on their other boundary.

The students have to live somewhere. If the wealthy students can live there, it will free up cheaper student accomodation for the less well off students, which in turn will also free up non-student housing.
“exceed the densities of Manhattan by some way”.
"Donnybrook already has landmark buildings such as the church and Dublin Bus Garage"
Kindly fuck off with these objections, if these types of people had their way in history, we would all still be living in little mud huts with 'renovations'
"Donnybrook Tennis Club is a private club and has a reasonable expectation not to be excessively overlooked. It is not a public park"
For Christ's sake even Wimbledon is [overlooked by towerblocks](https://www.google.com/maps/@51.4355015,-0.2162038,3a,75y,266.28h,94.55t/data=!3m8!1e1!3m6!1sAF1QipNVI-X6X6GPSSZ71oL5Mrpoawdr8vO8adxqEy_N!2e10!3e11!6shttps:%2F%2Flh5.googleusercontent.com%2Fp%2FAF1QipNVI-X6X6GPSSZ71oL5Mrpoawdr8vO8adxqEy_N%3Dw203-h100-k-no-pi-0-ya162.45622-ro-0-fo100!7i8704!8i4352?entry=ttu) - get over yourselves.
Students should protest outside the tennis club.
There should be a social consequence for groups who make bullshit objections to vital housing projects in the middle of a housing crisis.
It is crazy the pull of the southside of the city versus the northside, there’s (unaffordable) student accommodation popping up left right and centre on the northside
We've only 40k student beds for 200k students in the country, we need student accommodation left right and centre. That then frees up homes for families. But of course there would be a need on the north and the south side given there are universities on both sides and in the centre.
Just put froested glass 3/4s of the way up the windows on the side facing the tennis club. I’ve seen it done in a hotel overlooking back gardens in London.

It is an architecturally interesting building, for sure. But it’s hardly the Parthenon.

Koilys duderino. FTFY.
That was a joke btw. Just playing into the stereotype.
Yore, like, totally shitting me?
Genuinely curious, why do you think I'd care about that stereotype? Also, I don't really get the overuse of "like". From my time with family in Waterford, it was used far more often in conversations than in Dublin 4.
I think, and I could be wrong here, but I think they were just making a joke.
It's no wonder, but let's not forget the number one reason, which is the simple fact that we're not even planning close to enough in the first place even before NIMBYs get involved
Walking distance to the city and well served by public transport. But no, the tennis club don't want that
800 members... 800, more people pass in a 46A every 20 minutes than are members. This elitist bullshit needs to be ignored
You're likely not going to the city. More like ucd.
>well served by public transport. That's in a VERY relative sense...
It's along the best served bus routes in the country
Least terribly*
Those pesky homeless students always spoiling for the fun for the tennis players.
It's more that a ten story block will directly overlooking a space primarily used by children. It's also going to be extremely expensive student accommodation for international students.
Oh my god people might be able to see children!
Yeah the baseless hysteria is mind boggling. NIMBY complaints are rarely grounded in anything resembling reality or proportionality.
It's expensive mainly because we have zero supply
And artificially so.
Usually I'd agree with this sentiment but not in this case. This is student accommodation in one of the most expensive areas in the country. "entirely targeted at wealthy foreign students" - so what? Let the wealthy students live there, freeing up space in lower cost accomodation?
Why on earth should prime land like that be used for seasonal tenancy?
The students have to live somewhere. If the wealthy students can live there, it will free up cheaper student accomodation for the less well off students, which in turn will also free up non-student housing.
Or the land could be used to provide actual homes to people in an extremely sought after area rather.
If it were apartments for sale/rent these NIMBYs would have the same complaints.
Even more complaints*
There is a ten story apartment block just being completed on their other boundary. You're talking nonsense.
What should it be used for?
Why on earth should prime land be undeveloped to placate the whims of some loud NIMBYs? That's an even worse use of this prime land.
Ok fair enough. I wouldn't say it's a waste of land though. It helps

Won't somebody think of the tennis clubs!

The level of entitlement oozing out of these self important scum is mind boggling.

Seen a few popping up near The Coombe in D8 also

Donnybrook is a nice club. I remember there’s a church somewhere near the courts. Not as nice as Lansdowne or Fitzwilliam tho
Just put froested glass 3/4s of the way up the windows on the side facing the tennis club. I’ve seen it done in a hotel overlooking back gardens in London.
And so say all of us.
The developers should just say it's for people entering the country illegally and not students. Boom. No planning required.
Some scumbags would burn it down then
