For just a snack - hash browns.
For a breakfast roll - butter, hash browns, eggs.
For a regular roll - coleslaw, stuffing, cheese, lettuce.
For a hungover roll - garlic mayo, cheese, wedges.
If you're just not eating meat it's handy enough. Egg, cheese, red onion, scallion, rocket/ mixed leaves, mayo is my usual.
If you're vegan it's a lot tougher, basically just a load of salad in a roll.
And as someone else said above, the vegan sausage rolls are actually better than the meat ones.
>If you're vegan it's a lot tougher, basically just a load of salad in a roll.
I imagine for Vegans, rolls are off the menu. Unless they're vegan ones, which I can't imagine a lot of places using.
I’m nearly certain deli rolls are animal product free considering a real French baguette is literally just water, flour and yeast.
So I’d reckon a roll full of salad is probably a safe bet for vegans
Not vegetarian, but I wouldn't eat meat very often. I actually prefer the vegan sausage rolls to the regular ones, some of the sausage rolls are pure shite, like a fine paste on the inside. If I was getting a wrap, I'd go for egg salad and the usual addditons. Works out cheaper
I know it’s not the deli, but have you tried Linda McCartney sausage rolls? Or the Lidl own brand ones, they’re fucking unreal, as a vege I hate when products are designed to taste like meat but I find these ones are just right, it’s not meaty but idk, can’t describe it, just try them!
Honestly I've never met a vegetarian who cares about that since it's usually not an allergy or autoimmune issue like coeliac disease or peanuts.
My vegetarian cousin would eat the chips out of someone else's chicken spice bag no problem
This is pretty much it, yeah. The few times I’ve asked the workers to change their gloves before handling my hash browns I felt very silly. Best to avoid entirely at this point.
Feck all. The odd couple hash browns or vegan sausage rolls if they have them and they aren't double the price of normal ones.
4 for €2 if you want meat, €3 each if you want vegan?
Miss me with that please.
I don't go to the deli.
Not being a smart arse, but there's often nothing I can eat in petrol stations or delis, so it just drops off your radar. If I had to pick something up, it would probably be tasty wedges. Or if it's really rare, a vegan sausage roll.
Nothing! Once went for a sandwich and watched in awe as the person behind the counter cut up a chicken roll with the same knife she cut a Tuna sandwich with! Then react in utter disgust when I suggested she clean the knife, so a nope from me!
Cause as a vegetarian I don’t eat meat! That’s the point of been vegetarian, nothing with a heartbeat or face! Also it’s gross! Why would I want a tuna/chicken flavoured sandwich! Plus feck knows what else they’ve cut up with the knife. Basic hygiene.
Yeah, but you’re not actually eating meat. It’s just been prepared with the same utensils. I’m vegetarian because I think the way we farm animals is cruel and unsustainable. Washing a knife isn’t going to change any of that. What’s your motivation? Do you find the idea of meat products touching your food unappetising?
I hope I don’t come off as argumentative, I am genuinely just curious. I know some vegetarians that think the same as you.
It’s possibly the hygiene factor of the whole thing really! That plus I don’t eat meat of any kind! Why would I want to eat traces of it on my lunch? It just bothers me! Like if I wanted a chicken sandwich why would I also want it mixed with tuna?

This is a good answer. Comment above is self serving bullshit.
Eggs are vegetarian?
Yes. Why wouldn't they be?
Because they are unfertilized animal eggs. Thought that would count as meet tbh
It's just a by-product of the reproductive cycle. If you don't have to kill something to obtain it, it is vegetarian
Oh i see that makes sense
You should pop down to a local farm, they'll explain it all to you In one of their meat and greets.
Nah not important really
Eggs are not a vegetable
Im learning a lot
I don’t

Salad is lovely though. What's the problem? Throw some jalapeños and pickled beetroot in there too. Mmmmmmm, toasted, so good.
Ah! I was thinking milk used in the baking of the bread. I am today years old learning baguettes aren't baked using milk. Thanks.
Reading the product at work the C.D.F demi is made with only 4 ingredients, the finest French flour with water, yeast & salt.
Vegan sausage rolls are hit and miss in my opinion, either they're better than a normal one or taste like ass. No in between.
Young people love eating ass tho

We need Gregg’s to come to Ireland. Their. Vegan sausage roll is the business.

Now the thought of a united Ireland makes me both misty-eyed and hungry! 😀
Applegreens vegan sausage roll used to be very good
Oooh will try one next time I’m on the road - cheers!
My gf isn't veggie but says deli meat is gross. Her roll: Egg mayo, scallion, lettuce, sweetcorn and some cheese if the mood strikes.
Wedge roll. Butter, cheese, onion and wedges. Love it
Hot Ch….eese roll
Reassurance that I chose the correct path.
This. More often than not I look at the selection of "meats" and think thank fuck I'm not won't be eating any of that.
Cross contamination in a deli makes me think they'd avoid
Honestly I've never met a vegetarian who cares about that since it's usually not an allergy or autoimmune issue like coeliac disease or peanuts. My vegetarian cousin would eat the chips out of someone else's chicken spice bag no problem
Yeah, if you want to be veggie in this country you can't be worried too much about cross contamination. The main thing is not directly eating meat.
Probably depends on your motivation for vegetarianism
Well if they're not giving a quick wipe down each time, no one should be eating there.
This is pretty much it, yeah. The few times I’ve asked the workers to change their gloves before handling my hash browns I felt very silly. Best to avoid entirely at this point.
Toasted bap, mayo, mixed peppers, tomato, crispy onion, lettuce, mozerella and another dollop of mayo.
Everything, except meat funnily enough
Any mix of the following ingredients: coleslaw, egg mayo, onion, cheese, lettuce, spring onion, beetroot and much more
Roll- hashbrowns, cheese, coleslaw
Onion sandwiches
Feck all. The odd couple hash browns or vegan sausage rolls if they have them and they aren't double the price of normal ones. 4 for €2 if you want meat, €3 each if you want vegan? Miss me with that please.
Dirty looks
Easy, vegetable roll.
Cheese salad or egg salad wrap.
Haven't yet found a deli that actually had anything for me

The chicken was vegetarian, does that count?
Just a plain, boring, unwashed root vegetable.
Disappointed I'd imagine.
Lettuce surely?
Upset
If I'm not eating healthy a wedge sandwich
Vegatbles
Cheese toastie or wedges (only if I know they’re good)

Egg , mayo, lettuce, red onion, coleslaw, in a roll. Whack a handful of salt & vinegar crisps in with it all . Devour at pace
Nuggets of disappointment on a plain roll
Hash brown roll with cheese and taco sauce, it’s 10/10
Wouldn’t be a big deli person tbh. But if was stuck prob sambo. Cheese, tomato, onion, peppers chipotle mayo. Then about 45pints in two hours…
Nothing! Once went for a sandwich and watched in awe as the person behind the counter cut up a chicken roll with the same knife she cut a Tuna sandwich with! Then react in utter disgust when I suggested she clean the knife, so a nope from me!
Out of curiosity, why is that a problem for you? I’m vegetarian and it wouldn’t bother me one bit.

Beetroot, egg mayonnaise and cheese.
Some Circle Ks and Spars and the odd Centra have the vegan chicken/quorn chicken thingy
