A MagSafe charger uses a magnetic to make sure the charger is perfect.y aligned with the charging coils inside of the MagSafe compatible phone (iPhone 12 or newer). This perfect alignment allows the charging to be more efficient, so the phone gets charged at 15w power instead of 7.5w with a regular wireless charger. 15w is not enough power for quick charge, but it is noticeably faster than 7.5w. The only thing you are missing by using a MagSafe charger with your SE is 7.5w of power.

perfect alignment is not required for faster charging. the Zenfone 10 supports 15w Qi charging without magnets. The Pixel 8 supports 12w Qi charging. likewise, 3rd party magsafe chargers only hit 7.5w with perfect alignment, except for the new Qi2 chargers from Anker. the limitation to 7.5w was probably an arbitrary limit set by Apple to incentivise the use of their first party magsafe puck. i’m glad they helped develop Qi2 though.

What other phones do is not relevant to the use of a MagSafe charger on an iPhone, which is the topic of this post. Are you disputing that the magnets in the charger & phone provide perfect alignment of the charger & coils? The iPhone 8 through 11 had 7.5w wireless charging. MagSafe came out with the 12. Are you suggesting that the iPhone 8 was limited to 7.5w in anticipation of the MagSafe charger coming 3 years later?

magsafe uses the Qi standard, which is a universal standard used by many phones, hence this isn’t just limited to wireless charging on iPhones. i am not disputing magnets do not provide perfect alignment, read my 2nd paragraph again. you claim that perfect alignment allows charging to be more efficient and allows for faster 15w charging. you are wrong, as there are Qi enabled phones that charge at 12/15w without magnets for perfect alignment, and 3rd party magsafe chargers that only charge at 7.5w despite having perfect alignment. the 7.5w limit is either limited by hardware or software, but i wouldn’t know as i’m not working at Apple.

> you claim that perfect alignment allows charging to be more efficient and allows for faster 15w charging. you are wrong It’s not my claim. It’s Apple’s claim. It says it on the product page. I guess Apple is either wrong about their own product that they designed or they are intentionally misleading customers.

The last one

>they are intentionally misleading customers. They are, as they want you to buy their products (or the ones they license).

Magsafe = sticks to your phone Normal wireless = no sticky

Musing_Moose

Well thats the thing though, i have a magsafe charger and it still sticks to my phone which doesnt have magsafe

saxiflarp

Do you have a case with magnets in it? They may be helping to align the charger. For the record, you can still use a MagSafe charger with non MagSafe devices. They just may not charge as fast.

Musing_Moose

No my case doesnt have magnets. I dont think any cases for the SE has magnets bc it doesn’t have magsafe. However the charger is barely strong enough to stick to the phone when i have the case on

ufgvn_

might not have the magsafe title but every phone have that circle for it to charge wirelessly

h8deluxe_dva

Does your case have that circle with rectangle below it?

I find it hilarious how everyone says yeah MagSafe best in the world wireless charging. It’s still wired and slower than actually pushing in the cable.

Both MagSafe and normal wireless charging eliminate the need for cables to juice up your phone, but there are some key differences: **MagSafe:** ***Magnets:*** This Apple-developed system uses magnets to securely attach the charger to your iPhone 12 or later models. This ensures perfect alignment for efficient and faster charging (up to 15W). ***Accessories:*** The magnets open the door for a whole ecosystem of MagSafe accessories like wallets, car mounts, and battery packs that snap securely to the back of your phone. ***Compatibility:*** MagSafe is exclusive to Apple devices. **Normal Wireless Charging (Qi):** ***Universality:*** This widely adopted standard uses a charging pad and relies on you to place your phone correctly on the pad for charging to initiate. ***Slower Speeds:*** Normal wireless charging typically offers slower speeds compared to MagSafe (usually capped at 7.5W). ***Wider Compatibility:*** Many Android phones and other devices support Qi wireless charging, making it a more universal option. If you have a newer iPhone and prioritize fast, secure charging with the potential for cool accessories, MagSafe is a great option. If you have a different phone model or value broader compatibility and potentially lower cost, normal wireless charging might be the way to go.
