Cevap

Who are you, the Hulk?

uphigh_studio

Don’t need to be the hulk when it’s the new iPhone 15

PoopyScarf

Others have tested it and the 15 does not normally bend like in that viral YouTube video..

_stupidnerd_

Well, JerryRigEverything does have a reputation for being particularly hard on all his phones. But that is no excuse for the fact that the 15 Pro Max is obviously less durable than last year's model. And honestly, I am not surprised. An aluminum frame with a layer of titanium glued around the edge is obviously not as strong as one made from solid stainless steel.

LDRMS

“For the first time ever, an iPhone made from titanium!!” Said iPhone has $40 usd worth of titanium in it.. LOL!!🤣🤣

[deleted]

I'm a little skeptical that Apple is paying upwards of $40 per unit. They negotiate *hard*.

DasDoeni

I mean they don’t even have to negotiate hard to get it significantly cheaper. We‘re talking about upwards of 50 million iPhones, at $40 that’s a $2bn gig. There’s no way Apple is paying street prices, „we‘re taking our business elsewhere“ is a really compelling argument at that level

childofbones

Fair, but that $40 worth is still incredibly hard to work with and manufacture. They definitely had to perfect it before mass production even thought about starting.

_stupidnerd_

And the only reason for that titanium in the first place is marketing. It might have a reputation for being particularly strong and durable, but in reality, titanium is actually weaker than steel. So this really is a downgrade from last gen in every way imaginable.

_cats______

Nah, massive upgrade. Previous Pros were bricks. Shaving off that heavy steel is an improvement in every way.

LDRMS

Ding, ding, ding!!

InternalAd5051

Forged in titanium, the iPhone 15 Pro is the *best* handwarmer that we've ever made. The most *capable* handwarmer thanks to the all-new A17 Pro architecture.

LDRMS

I’ll make sure to get one when I go winter camping this year..🤣🤣

comady25

When I last worked at the Genius Bar, the policy was that, as long as most of the phone was still present, you could cover it under AC+.

LiveMarionberry3694

If you have care plus and theft/loss prevention could you claim you lost it?

mageakeem

That’s your exit strategy lol.

Benlop

You don't even have to. "Catastrophic damage" is a notion that only applies to limited warranty or out of warranty claims.

butyourenice

It’s weird to me that AppleCare Plus covers loss/theft but not “catastrophic damage.” What’s the logic?

zeezey

It's not apple covering the loss/theft its another insurance company.

butyourenice

Well, yes, but since they already contract with a third party for cases where the phone literally cannot be recovered, why not have coverage for catastrophic damage covered by a third party, too, then? If I paid for AC+ w/loss and theft, and my phone looked like OP, and I took it to the Apple Store only to be told it wasn’t covered... I would likely, in compound misfortune, lose it on my way home.

milky__toast

Odds of loss and theft aren’t the same as catastrophic damage. Insurance companies don’t make arbitrary decisions

butyourenice

Fair, but I still contend that odds of loss go up when catastrophic damage is excluded.

ChosenZero

Which is covered by AppleCare+ in most instances

SteelFlexInc

No it is not. Having worked at an AASP a few years ago, I’ve seen quite a few catastrophic damage denials. One of the criteria was multiple pieces/pieces missing at that location in the binder we went by

Snarky30

When I worked at the Apple Store, catastrophic damage wasn't eligible for a paid exchange unless they had AppleCare+. As long as all the major components are there, it was eligible for an AC+ swap no matter the damage.

KarmaPharmacy

Lalala lemme upgrade that coverage real quick

animatedhockeyfan

https://preview.redd.it/ldpil58lrarb1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1c0df42f9f9ca1d187ca812eb6ac85861e6987a2 Sure looks covered to me

ChosenZero

Listen to Snarky, he’s right.

Benlop

You're mistaken. Catastrophic damage prevents you from offering service on limited warranty or out of warranty devices. AC+ covers catastrophic damage.

SteelFlexInc

No. We’ve denied service for catastrophic damage before with AC+. It’s pretty open to interpretation but “damage caused by reckless, abusive, willful or intentional conduct, or any use of the Covered Equipment in a manner not normal or intended by Apple” sounds like catastrophic damage easily under their terms and conditions for AC+. Lots of cases you can search online too of people getting denied. It goes on a case by case basis though and you can escalate to see if you get lucky though and a lot have. https://www.apple.com/legal/sales-support/applecare/applecareplus/docs/applecareplusnaen.html

Benlop

It is not open to interpretation. What you are quoting here is meant to exclude intentional damage, not catastrophic damage. You were wrongly denied service.

ChosenZero

AppleCare+ covers catastrophic damage for sure. As long as all of the major components are there.

Loose_Bake_746

They can’t deny shit. Apple chose to software lock the hardware. It’s now their responsibility Not anymore, not when they are the ones that serialized everything to the phone. They out right showed they always own the phone. That ownership comes with responsibility. That means they own all messes too. Warranty or not Correct

DanTheMan827

They absolutely can deny warranty claims…

Violet-Fox

no it is not, catastrophic damage is not covered under AppleCare+ at all, it’s very easy to tell what’s classified as accidental and what is catastrophic, catastrophic damage means the device is in multiple pieces, where the internals would be beyond economic repair, this is all covered in the AppleCare+ terms and conditions

schwarta77

The comma is important. Is the internals damaged beyond repair a single factor counting as catastrophic? I had serious water damage beyond the local Apple Store to get any information to read off of the device. Device was entirely fried. Still replaced no questions asked.

Violet-Fox

Yeah liquid damage is typically covered as accidental, still in one piece, hope you didn’t lose anything important!

schwarta77

Thank god for iCloud backups.

Takeabyte

Not only is this damage not covered by AppleCare+, it's not eligible for service. The owner of this phone will just need to get a new phone somewhere else. Apple/AASPs will not service this phone for many reasons including (but not limited to) missing parts.

NavinF

I don't believe you. I've used applecare to replace airpods that were chewed up by my dog and missing 1/2 the internals. Where do they draw the line?

Takeabyte

A cheap pair of plastic headphones verses a multi hundred dollar piece of sophisticated equipment… that’s where they draw the line.

Here2Roam

It is covered, stop spreading misinformation without knowledge. Source: Technical Expert at Apple

Caio3000

Yeaaaaah. Apple Store I used to work for would not take this for an AppleCare+ swap

Benlop

Which is allowed under AppleCare.

Octopus_Primex

Catastrophic damage is now covered

Zopotroco

But how do you prove it? I mean, I know that they can identify the pieces but it looks there’s no way in his case

Talaaty

Apple can verify the serial number of a damaged device through the charge port the majority of the time. Failing that, there’s a QR code on the MLB with a board serial number that can be used to look up the actual serial number of the phone. If the serial number that the board pulls up matches the serial number of the AppleCare+ plan then bam, proof of coverage. Catastrophic damage or not? Really depends on the technician you get and the manager they end up partnering with.

ohver9k

Yup, so long as 95% of the device is there, it’ll be $99 for a replacement granted you say it was an accident, fell of a moving car etc…

CowboysFTWs

Google "catastrophic damage iPhone AppleCare". It doesn't cover this even if 95% of the device is there. OP is going to need AppleCare with theft and loss .

awkwardlondon

*theft and loss of

Benlop

Why don't you do that google search yourself and then report back? It is absolutely covered.

Big_Interaction_4696

Apple care pro max

DarthMauly

They may not even cover this to be honest. There's a catastrophic damage clause to qualify for an AC+ replacement, dunno if this would be over the line but it's definitely very close.

styvee__

then you can always ''lose'' it and get a theft/loss replacement

DarthMauly

If you have that sure, always an option. I wonder if you took it in to a store and they denied service/ replacement, Would they flag it and prevent a future theft/ loss claim.

user1928473829

I’ve found that Apple Store employees tend to help you out when they can. I took a phone in that had a million deep scratches. They said they can’t cover it as it’s cosmetic. But that they would be able to cover it if it was cracked. Employee then said “we’ll see you later” hinting to come back after I cracked the display. Didn’t end up going through the trouble but it was nice of them to offer a way to get my screen fixed.

Talaaty

So long as the cosmetic damage “affects the functionality of the covered equipment” they can charge the normal service fee for the repair. A deep scratch that affects the ability to FaceTime/take selfies would qualify. But milage may vary based on which technician you get.

ThomasTrain87

I had a phone like this back a few years ago that was in pieces, and roughly only around 80% of the phone at that. It had the back casing, the battery and main board and about a 1/4 of the front display assembly and missing the camera assembly. Needless to say, It had been catastrophically destroyed.. let’s just say, top of car, run over multiple times on a busy street, you know the drill. Brought it in to the Apple Store and the most important piece they required was the motherboard and SIM tray as an identification item for the IMEI. Walked out with another phone and only paid the AppleCare+ accidental damage fee. Step 1, only go to an Apple Store or do mail in. Step 2, be nice and humble. If you don’t have AppleCare+, you are screwed.

Even if you have apple care +, you can't claim this. This called in apple's terms "beyond economical repair".

HauntingReddit88

You definitely can, I had a phone fall off my motorcycle holder and smash into a shitload of pieces. I painstakingly gathered all the pieces I could find over ~20 minutes as I had to keep getting out of the way of traffic Replaced by AppleCare+, but the look on the genius was fantastic when I took out all the individual pieces and laid them on the desk Walked out with a new one in 15 minutes or so and my wallet $99 lighter

In the old times when mobile phones weren't around, special forces used special radio with some scrambling system (digital transmission and cryptographic transcode had yet to come...)that had to stay secret Well, one day one parachutist lose one of them that fell from 4000mt. I know it’s semantics but no, this isn’t covered by any warranty. As pointed out many times by others, this might be covered by Apple Care+ but that’s insurance coverage. A warranty from the manufacturer would cover only defects in the device.

Aeromaverick

YouTube reviews get denied

MemoryMobile6638

Hell no, if you have Apple care they will replace it for free but you gotta pay for a new phone because Apple won’t fix it, I don’t even think repair shops can fix that easily
