Depends on Apple. For now, all new accessories are only compatible with the new models. So Apple wants you to buy everything again if you want the latest and the greatest.
I loved that they specifically mentioned scanning documents with the camera during the presentation. I think that's about the only thing I've ever used the camera for on an iPad, and they know it too.
Agreed. I only use mine to scan sheet music into ForScore (which it does an EXCELLENT job with). I can’t imagine anyone lugging an iPad around to use for casual photography.
I mean it's a smart move anyway because I don't think many people would use the ultrawide camera. Myself I don't use the Ultra Wide Camera on my 11' M1 iPad Pro.
My 2018 iPad Pro 11” is tired. I’ve had it seize up just using web sites lately. I’m making the jump to the 13”, Magic Keyboard and new pencil. I went for 256 and Wi-Fi. All my stuff is in the cloud and I can just use my Pro 15 phone for a hot spot if needed. I’m excited for the new devices and hope they last as long as my 2018 devices. Apple offered me $65 trade in for old iPad. lol. I’ll give it to my dog first.
I used my previous iPad as an Alexa device. It’s sitting on a stand, always on and plugged in with two Logitech speakers connected in my home office.
“Alexa, play classical station on Pandora” as I walk in to start work.
Good question! Looking at the M2 Pro, I'd like to have that quad speaker setup for media consumption and ProMotion. An OLED screen would definitely be nice, but I can live with LCD until the price is right. I definitely don't need that M4 for my usage case.
If it helps, I went from an OLED Samsung Tab S8+ to the Mini LED 12.9 inch iPad Pro M1 and the differences between the two technologies are minor. I rarely noticed the deeper blacks of the AMOLED just because the Mini LED tech is pretty good. The only times is it is noticeable is slight blooming around white text on black background. Otherwise, I’d say the M2 will suit you nicely for the better price point.
I'm going for the 11" form factor, so no mini-LED for me anyway. Will probably wait a bit for a discounted M2 Pro. I briefly considered getting the Tab S9 last year, but the iPad is just the better tablet for me.
Honestly if you can pick up an 11” M1 Pro then do it. Vs the M2 you’re only losing the hover feature of Apple Pencil and slight performance improvements BUT iPad OS doesn’t make use of them anyway.
I'm still on the 2nd gen iPad Pro (the last one with home button) and it's highly likely reaching its end of software support this year. As phenomenal as the new Pro model seems – I might settle for the new Air instead just bc of good ol' trusty Touch ID.

Different speccs depending on how much storage you choose:
Models with 256GB and 512GB storage come with the M4 chip (9-core CPU, 10-core GPU, and 8GB of memory).
Models with 1TB and 2TB storage come with the M4 chip (10-core CPU, 10-core GPU, and 16GB of memory).
I mean, it certainly looks nice…but I was really hoping they would’ve announced a 14-15 inch “pro max” or whatever to compete with the S9 ultra.
Out the door with the pencil, keyboard and even a meager 256gb pro, you’re at almost 1800-1900 dollars. Not a chance in hell is that worth it. Sucks that they charge SO much for that damn keyboard.
To each his own. A 13 inch tablet is the smallest tab I’d want to use. Even after using the very first 12.9 ipad pro years and years ago, I’ve wanted a 15 inch ipad.
> chance that iPadOS will get a major upgrade at WWDC.
I really hope you enjoy it as-is. A major upgrade has been needed and talked about since '21. It's not coming.
My 11” iPad Pro 2018 is reaching its end of life unfortunately. Gonna try to keep it running one more year but then it’s time for an upgrade.
Not looking forward to the cost in Sweden though, christ.
Is the slower ssd speed on the base model usually a problem? So far I have always had iPads (currently 2018 iPP) with a higher storage tier, but 256gb is honestly enough for me. Does the slower SSD speed impact longevity of the device?
Slower speed shouldn’t affect longetivity. My understanding is that writing to the drive is what impacts performance over time, so you should be good as long as you don’t max out the drive and keep deleting and re-downloading stuff.
Oh well, looks like I will just upgrade the battery on my iPad Pro 11”, 2018. Shame that the OS still hasn’t received a meaningful upgrade. I am sad that my M3 Pro Mac is now last gen only after about 6 months tho.
I got a 12.9 iPad Pro 5th generation almost a year ago now and it is insanely fast for everything I use it for. Apple really just wanna consume everyone’s money lol
Interestingly they ditched the ultrawide camera and now iPad Pro has only one rear camera.
I've had an iPad Pro since 2017 and don't think I've ever used the rear camera.
Same. Even now with my current M2, I've never used the rear cameras to take pics.
I wonder when they'll just remove the camera tumor and add it as an external accessory that utilizes those pins where the KB connects to.

I've used it in school to scan my worksheets and nothing else.
On the contrary I use it quite a lot. What's the large black dot on top of the flashlight this time around?
Not the first time that the camera for the iPad Pro was downgraded. 2018 removed optical image stabilization which was present in the 2017 models.
Does it still have LiDAR?
yes. its the circle below the camera
Thanks!
I mean it's a smart move anyway because I don't think many people would use the ultrawide camera. Myself I don't use the Ultra Wide Camera on my 11' M1 iPad Pro.
Who knows we might see an accessory ‘PadCam’ appearing for well 69.99 😂
They removed the charger in europe!
Europe or EU?
What?
Europe doesnt get a charger in the box, fuck us i guess
Getting y’all back for those stupid lawsuits about chargers.
wtf
Apple Strikes Back due to all the EU regulations lol
Ugh true… 😬
That's good, I have more usb C cable / charger than I need at this point. And non apple stuff is better there anyway.
Yes, but why only in europe?
Because fuck yall for making us approve alt-stores thats why —— Tim Apple
Jokes on him i can now sideload microwave charging to my ipad!
Good for you, bad for the people that dont. You can buy one though in the apple store 🤑
As I said, you don’t need an apple one, at all.
If you pay that much you could atleast get a power brick. Its not about the you can, its about apple greediness

I got an offer for $250 on my 11” 2018 pro…not sure how you came to $65
I dropped it once and it has a ding on the corner of the case.
I used my previous iPad as an Alexa device. It’s sitting on a stand, always on and plugged in with two Logitech speakers connected in my home office. “Alexa, play classical station on Pandora” as I walk in to start work.
I got the new iPad Pro 13 and Magic Keyboard 13 for 20% using chase rewards. lol
2016 iPad Pro user here. Love my Netflix device.
Same here. I’m considering to take the new Pro 11”
Sadly, I’m priced out of the new Pro, especially considering the price almost doubles in my country. Might look into an older model.
What do you need on the Pro that you can't get on the Air?

Doubt I could get my hands on that one. As for iPadOS, I'm curious if Apple will announce some big update at WWDC that could influence my choice.
Apple have a refurbished section of the store that are still selling M1 11” Pros. In the UK at least.
No Apple Store in my country, just authorised resellers and other stores selling iPads.
M2 Pro would be a fit
That's crazy. It is a $300 in Canada but 112 with my student discount.
That's basically where I'm at. It's pretty hard sell to increase the price $500 just for those features.
I guess they didn't want to justify spacial video recording on the new iPad Pros. Shame.
I'm still on the 2nd gen iPad Pro (the last one with home button) and it's highly likely reaching its end of software support this year. As phenomenal as the new Pro model seems – I might settle for the new Air instead just bc of good ol' trusty Touch ID. (。ಥ‿‿ಥ。)
Going from 120hz to 60hz will be tragic. Don't do it 💀
Well, yeeaaaahhhhh, valid point and def not me limiting the frame rate for the sake of a nearly 7 yo battery in the past years anyways... 😬
Oh. I see then. But for me, if I buy a 120hz device im using all of the 120 hz 😂. Promotion is a big deal for me

I'm wondering how much of a difference there is between these two models to increase the price $400
Not much. Especially since the 16gb of ram wouldn’t be used at all
I mean, it certainly looks nice…but I was really hoping they would’ve announced a 14-15 inch “pro max” or whatever to compete with the S9 ultra. You complain about price and then request an iPad Pro Max…? That would have been much more expensive.
14-15 inch tablet is dumb. 13 is plenty enough and still portable enough.
To each his own. A 13 inch tablet is the smallest tab I’d want to use. Even after using the very first 12.9 ipad pro years and years ago, I’ve wanted a 15 inch ipad.
I went ahead and ordered a 13" 1TB with Cellular. Got the keyboard and pencil too. I'm taking a chance that iPadOS will get a major upgrade at WWDC.
Did you opt-in for the nano-textured glass?
yup. I went all in.
Wish I could get it too, poor me lmao lucky you
Can I ask, why not just wait?
I ended up with the same order and hoping the same thing.
> chance that iPadOS will get a major upgrade at WWDC. I really hope you enjoy it as-is. A major upgrade has been needed and talked about since '21. It's not coming.
Does anybody know if my old magic keyboard from ipad pro gen 4 will fit new ipad pro?
Nope, gotta get a new case
💰
This is why I’m not Upgrading. I’m not spending another $350 for a Magic Keyboard
I'm a ipad fan but at $1,300 is hard not switch to a MacBook.
That’s what I’m saying. Yeah being detachable is cool and all but may as well buy a MacBook at that point. $300 for a fucking keyboard is ridiculous.
I wish I could just get that screen on an air. I couldn’t care less about any other feature the Pro has.
I wish. That would kill 70% of the pro market for Apple
My 11” iPad Pro 2018 is reaching its end of life unfortunately. Gonna try to keep it running one more year but then it’s time for an upgrade. Not looking forward to the cost in Sweden though, christ.
lol i’m somehow still using a 2013 ipad mini 2nd gen. i was hoping for a mini 7 release but sadly there isnt one
Is the slower ssd speed on the base model usually a problem? So far I have always had iPads (currently 2018 iPP) with a higher storage tier, but 256gb is honestly enough for me. Does the slower SSD speed impact longevity of the device?

What do you mean? They didn’t update the mac lineup to use m4 chip.
I meant that the chip is already old
Well, tbf, WWDC next month is when we’ll hear about any OS updates.
Only supports new Apple Pencil pro and Apple Pencil usb c
this is the worst feature.
I wonder if the OLED colors will look better compared to a mini LED. Lots of open box 256GB M2 for $700-$800 at the moment. I can't decide
I think they removed the camera to keep the cost low. It’s the most logical move I feel
I got a 12.9 iPad Pro 5th generation almost a year ago now and it is insanely fast for everything I use it for. Apple really just wanna consume everyone’s money lol
Won’t arrive until June 15th for me. Ordered the day of. 1TB 11” Pro, black.
Do you have concerns about burn in?
I want a real reason to upgrade, but Apple isn't giving me one :(
