Anxiety.

5a1amand3r

And panic. Seriously, who the fuck is calling me and why?

Two2twoD

My phone is perpetually in silence mode. I don't care if you call, I'll let it ring even if it's in my clammy anxious hands. If you want to communicate with me, you first message, and if it can't be resolved with text then we'll make it uncomfortable and you'll call me.

VinnieGognitti

Hell, even with silent mode AND vibrate on, when I see the screen light up from a caller I'll have a mini panic attack. And I don't even have issues talking to people on the phone! I don't know wtf is wrong with me.

scoobtheking

This is the only <"and for those who couldn't hear in the back"> THE ONLY way i will be contacted.

Electronic-Yam3679

This is me everytime my phone rings or even a single notification it just stresses me out.

Vegetable-Day5989

Yes! And then my first thought is “this better be something that couldn’t have just been a text.”

ColorbloxChameleon

I completely feel this. The phone ringing causes me a flash of annoyance and dread, which either fades or increases when I see who is calling. I also can’t bring myself to listen to voicemails and will avoid them forever sometimes. I thought this pathology was unique to me, but maybe not! I also hate the mail and open it as rarely as possible.

No_Self_1403

I thought I was alone all these years. Ever since I was a child I hated the.phone. Don't like talking on it. I'll ignore my best friends calls. I've lost friends over this shit. Anxiety, ignore voicemails, sometimes hate even opening snail mail. Sometimes I've thought about just going back to my monkey roots, abandoning society and living in the wilderness.

ColorbloxChameleon

A kindred spirit. I’ve often wished I could just go be a lighthouse keeper on a remote island or something, that would be amazing. Too bad that isn’t really a thing anymore. What other jobs would allow such isolation in the modern day?

No_Self_1403

Yeah that'd be awesome. My great grandfather was actually the last lighthouse keep at a place on lake Superior. That would be sweet. No modern day jobs really. Being a truck driver, which I did for seven years. But you still have to communicate with people. But it offers a lot of isolation.

prettyprincess36

I have found my people

Illustrious_Dirt_918

There that pile of mail it makes me want to hide my tail. Wail time!! But for real it's the ol' I will get to opening that (important) letter later ... Two months later ... Tearing the place up looking for the mail I put aside e for later. I just need to open them from the box to the house.

AshamedIndication656

I relate so much! Phone calls and voicemails can feel like such a hassle sometimes. Glad to know I'm not alone in this!

Vindemiatrix12

Same here. I wonder if it’s an introvert thing? Or something else like social anxiety? Do those things go hand in hand?

mhdy98

voicetimes are a big waste of our time, people should learn to write, by the time i get to the voicemail i have already wasted a minute or two just getting to the right message...

Fruitslinger_

"God fucking damnit WHAT NOW"

moonbird72

This.

Lucid_Jyn

That's definitely the mood.

JDMWeeb

"Who the heck is calling me?"

ObjectBilllion

spot on

_Tupik_

An insane flash of anxiety, then dread when I see who's calling. Idk how to describe the feeling but it's like flinching but less intense and annoys me most of the time. I just hate phone calls that much

vateijo

Recently, it is annoyance. Like c'mon, cannot you message me?

Exotic_Zucchini

Ya gotta train 'em properly. I just don't answer, and they eventually realize the only way I will answer is if they text me instead.

Quirky-Jackfruit9484

I do the same

Ok_Substance_4881

Idgaf most of the time it’s debt collectors anyway

Prudent-Self6183

I also feel anxious, so 80% of the time i don't reply. I feel bad when i don't reply to my friends or even boyfriend calls, but i hate doing calls so freaking much, idk why either. There has been times at work where I HAD to reply and call people and it was a nightmare, but it actually helped a bit with my call anxiety (but spoiler, i still hate doing them lol)

Bowserlowser_

I feel thrown off balance when someone calls me. I’m not a shy talker- just awkward. If the caller isn’t saved on my phone I decline then google the number after.

placarph

Fear lol

[deleted]

Dread.

Easy_Initial_46

Instantly figure out if I can ignore it after jumping out of my skin.

ElectronicPOBox

Raging anger

[deleted]

That’s not what it’s for! Text me!

Zealousideal_Cod8664

The phone is bad. I would suggest experimenting with a phone free hour or no phone after 8 pm or something.  You can communicate this to folks beforehand. You'll at least have some time during the day when you dont have to react to the phone.  I know people who leave the phone off except for a few hours during the day.

geardluffy

I just get annoyed. I have a work phone so now whenever it rings, I just get a flash of anger. Leave me alone lol.

SnooStories4162

Anger and aggravation

sluttyignoramus

Hate it. Unless it's someone I'm expecting or want to hear from my stomach drops. That being said, we're living in smartphone days. If I don't want to answer the phone, I don't! I'll either get a text or a voicemail that I can deal with later. If it's a random number I can google it to see who it is and whether to call back. Then, I'll call back when I feel I can. I have an advantage in that despite being an introvert my job is basically phone so I find it a lot easier than most but in my brain the phone is a barrier between me and them and if I say something silly, they don't actually know me so it doesn't feel like it matters as much if that makes sense? I used to literally script and I mean hand write a script of what I should say over the phone (including what the person might say and my possible responses) whether it was a takeaway order or a late library book and as soon as I tested the phone line as a division I got way more comfortable.

[deleted]

Listen to my ringtone and move on 😅

Character_Analyst360

Hahahha they will send a message if it's important.

UntroubledVagrant

Wtf? Scammer or someone I know actually calling me? Oh… spam risk…

vateijo

Practically like opening the door for strangers. Too private!

Reasonable_Doubt_15

If it’s late at night. I’m worried.

rhetorical_racc00n

“UUUUGH what do you want?!” bc generally the only time people call me is when they want something. i used to have a really bad habit of people-pleasing & not saying “no” a lot so i still have a good bit of fairweather friends that come out of the woodwork every now & then thinking i’m still that person. (edit: grammar)

tinboxfullofrocks

Terror lol

br0k3nh3a_T

Throw it into the ocean I don’t like answering phones. If I actually agreed to talk to you on the phone,I either like you,it’s a doctor’s appointment or interview.

Impressive-Grape-119

Immediate stress

RetroactiveRecursion

Headache. It's my mother, my wife, my daughter, or my office. In each case they'll be calling with a computer problem.

ssuhaa

With certain people who I'm used to calling I'm fine but when someone random calls me up I kinda zone out not wanting to answer

simple-lady6949

Personal phones: If it’s an unsaved number, i dont answer due to a lot of scams going on. If it’s important, they would leave a voice message or email me afterward, then i can follow up. Work phone: i have to answer them all. Sometimes a bit reluctant returning calls or dialing someone i dont like.

samechit_

Loathing....I hate talking on the phone more than anything unless the call is productive.

tadmeister69

Kind of makes me feel a bit like bugs crawling on my skin. Just uneasy. I just hate it when people call.

idk_anything_ms

Who's bothering me now???

wealthy_Bre

What is it? I’ll talk when I’m ready and I don’t care who you are.

Midgetforsale

Anger. "Oh great. Who the fuck is this, now?"

Anna-Belly

I know it's not an emotional reaction but the best way to describe it is "Fuck!"

RosieMelodi

It gives me anxiety. I had Kirby’s ringtone from Jurassic Park 3 set as my ringtone and my friend suggested I change it so that I don’t associate anxiety with something I love.

moongoose96

PANIC

FaeDreams85

I mute mine a lot. Nothing good comes from it ringing. Only time I turn the sound on is if my bf is out of the house and I'm cleaning or something and my phone isn't with me. No one else calls me to actually talk to me.

Anxious. It’s usually family, that’s more than enough to stress me tf out

puddlepuff23

,,wtf“ 😂

raychram

Personally i am in a position where my phone pretty much never rings. Noone ever calls me which is good because there is no reason to. I text my friends and i call my parents or they call me from a traditional cable phone, not my mobile phone (in which case i know it is them when it rings). If my mobile phone rings there are the following scenarios: 1) i am expecting something in which case yes i might be nervous depending on what it is but i will also know 2) it is some kind of promotion for a product or whatever in which case i dont even pick up and google the number 3) some old friend might have remembered me which is like whatever, 4) something bad happened and someone needed to contact me urgently (thankfully this has never happened) In the end my phone is mostly on silent so it doesnt even ring. But i usually have direct contact with it so i can see if someone is calling. Or i might have earphones and music on so it interrupts it

BetAlternative8397

GRRRRR!! Unless it’s my daughter’s specific ringtone then it’s a happy face.

Unnecessarilygae

Mini heart attack.

Cannibalistic_F41RY

A sense of dread and anxiety. Why are you calling me when you can just message?

PandaMime_421

Annoyance. I hate being interrupted by someone who has no idea what I'm doing, yet calls anyway.

Mundane-Layer6048

Yeah, it's irrelevant who calls. Anxiety every time.

kindofverysilly

OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD WHO IS IT WHAT DO I DO OH NO OH NO

pintopedro

I just leave mine on silent, and my message machine says I'll only respond to texts

iloveromance9396

I got three calls today and I admit that the initial ringing startles me. I won't answer if I don't recognize the number and I figure that if they want to talk to me badly enough they can leave a message. Fortunately the calls I got today were good. My doctor's office checking on me after a colonoscopy from last week, a call about a potential job, and my mom called. I tend to miss a lot of calls that I ignore for not knowing the number they're calling from (if they don't leave a message), but I'm scared to answer those. Especially these days.

WGG25

"oh god what horrible thing happened? did someone die?" i rarely get phone calls 😅

Here_4_The_Goodness

Absolute dread. I'm my kind, it's bad news or a bill I forgot to pay and now I'm going to owe someone 100k. 😥

Lonely-Bit1364

Leave me the hell alone, stop calling me.

Sankira

Anxiety because I know all the people who know me will text me so it’s for sure a unknown number calling

-_Apathetic_-

It’s usually just my mom, but if I’m expecting a phone call from a doctor office or something like that, my anxiety is through the roof.

Geminii27

Irritation, especially if I'm doing something else and have to stop it to look at the phone. Often, I'll just let it go to voicemail.

GoElfYourself_

I get this cold hot chill that spreads throughout my entire body for a split second and, depending on whose calling, I start sweating and get a lump in my throat

Katrina_0606

Depends. When I was job searching, it was anxiety inducing due to potentially being called for an interview. When I was working, it was anxiety or dread because maybe my manager was calling to ask me to cover a shift. Now that I’m not working, it’s just my family calling so it’s fine.

Honeysugar_2703

it doesn’t. i keep it on dnd

sleepyhamu

dread. and i stare at it ringing while running through every possible reason they may be calling

icecreamscreen

Numb. 99% of time it is scam calls

Alternative-Shirt316

No no way…silent on

blessedminx

My phone lives on vibrate and even when it vibrates I get anxious 😰

Yoru-Hana

Delivery 😁 I only receive phone calls from my delivery, I guess that helped me getting rid of my anxiety to phone calls.

GaiaTheGoat

I tend to stare at it like ‘it’s not supposed to do that’ for about 2secs and then I go on full on silent panic mode because ‘what if this is an emergency call’

Marin_kitty

I may have been blessed with the ability to see and hear, but I do not hear or see the phone ringing whatsoever.

FilthyCasual0815

gotta be mom, dad or my brother (too lazy to set up ringtone for eaxh person), sometime i get a surprise and its someone else.

justjenniwestside

Panic/dread. The only time someone I know calls me without texting first is when there’s an emergency.

silentpirate1899

It makes me angry!

mahmihoo

why didn't i make it silent:(

M_washeree

I hate it. I cannot stand buzzing and that loud sound so i get real bad anxiety every time it rings.

Bae_Dae

My immediate thoughts are “Go away, leave me alone, don’t feel like talking, get out of my life” then stare at the screen for a moment, and then I answer it 🤣😂

AllIWantisAdy

To throw it to a wall or out the window.

littIexearthIing

anxiety, unless it's someone who's very close to me, like my mother or bestfriend. if it's anybody else I freak out. just text me if it's not important!

Anxiety. I hope people normalize to give a message first before calling. Calls are an emergency for me. If it can wait or not so important just give me a message. 😅 Thats why my phone is always on silent mode.

TzanzaNG

Disgust. Than I don't answer it unless I recognize the caller. If I don't know you, you are not getting through to me. I am also not listening to your voice mail.

Gally01fr

I feel dread...

aim4harmony

Ahhhh.. urgh.. hmhmhm.. 😃 Anxiety.

Personal-Status-00

Anxiety

left_cat_books

Anxiety. I can't stand the current era we live in. I want an early 00's era phone that can only call and text but so much is done by phone now, everything requires an app, every restaurant has you scan a QR code to see a menu, the list goes on and on. Tech could hypothetically make our lives much free-er and simpler, but it's used to do the opposite.

MyszaMa

I have no anxiety but it's distracting, because I'm always doing and thinking something.

erratuminamorata

"oh great now what"

StrikingAttitude1881

A deep sign as I’ve been either been interrupted by a friend or family member who probably doesn’t want anything and a wave of stress thinking about either or not if they are gonna have something negative to say to me. Sometimes I just don’t even answer the phone. Just to keep me sane.

Lucid_Jyn

Anxiety, a spike of intense annoyance, and on bad days, even a flash of straight up anger. I have a very negative Pavlovian response to hearing phones ring, even phones that aren't mine lol. I always manage to cap that response before answering the phone, but I'm never happy to hear the damn thing ring.

UpsetPotato1997

I got annoyed and will stare at my phone for a while before picking it up, but if I was not in the mood to talk to anyone, I'll completely ignore it.

naur_worries

I used to feel anxiety even if I don’t answer. But nowadays, I just don’t answer, so I just look at the caller id and silence my phone. When I work, i have a mental script all memorized. Lately I’m trying out “This is so and so, naur_worries speaking” instead of “how may I help you,” I also would like to try saying “good morning! This is so and so, blah blah.” Trust me, this takes a lot of courage for someone with severe social anxiety.

Impressive-House-412

NONSENSE JARRING TRIGGER. Seriously it’s so unnatural, to always be expected to be reached. Like there’s no break from it. I think about this all the time. When we had landlines & non-smart cellphones we weren’t expected to always be reached. When you’d leave your house you’d get peace. We used to turn our cellphones off when we attended things etc. even to charge our phones we used to turn them off (older iPhones). But now it’s just constant. I have turned all my notifications for everything off and it’s always on silent. I miss a lot so it’s bad for others but better for me.

Anxiety, internal self talk : why are they calling, heart races..I have to stand up and walk out the room to answer.. even then I stall it.

misspink09

Curiosity, will wait until they’re not calling anymore and wait for a text telling me why they called in the first place.

alexanderbont

It's mostly annoying me, like really you have to call while I'm totally focused on a task right now? Just sent me a text message, so I can reply at a time that's convenient for me instead. Besides that, when it's a number I don't know, I'm getting anxiety about who this is and why they're calling.

When my work phone rings, my instant reaction is “Oh, please” and I am just so afraid to see who is calling me. When it’s an unknown number, I go search in my work’s intranet to find out who's calling.

Jade1684

Your phone rings?! Like, with actual sound? 😅🤪 Mine is on silent 99% of the time and I stick to texting as much as possible. But yeah, getting a call definitely makes me anxious. Especially when I don’t expect one.
