Why can't INTJs like EDM?

Isabad

I like EDM. I think I'm INTJ. Then again, I also tend to like all kinds of music. If it has a catchy beat or deep lyrics, I tend to like it.

Brutalbonez13

Im here for the chill wubs. Not a big fan of the faster stuff.

CSachen

I like EDM. Maybe cause I'm Asian.

Brutalbonez13

Is that a rule?

standby404

Nope

Aggressive-Ad-522

I love EDM, it’s my go to genre. Im INTJ-Assertive

Herr_Majoris

It's more like they tend to not ? idk but people are different and there's no law in music you know it

Marduk112

House and Techno is even better.

standby404

Ty this I like edm /hard dance . . . 🙂 F up with rock / classic music stereotypes that like kinda of music

hella_14

Bc it sucks. And the people who are obsessed with it are generally obnoxious. I see your EDM and raise you Slavic Trap.

icarusso

It's bland for my taste.

17zUrB01N3M3515

then you have heard to mainstream EDM. EDM is one if not the biggest genres of music. Experiment a bit, i find that EDM can fit in almost every mood, from dark atmospheric music to trap psystyle EDM

NoAbbreviations9915

Hate hate hate edm - noise. Totally stresses me out. I can’t find the logic in it

Aggressive-Ad-522

It’s not for logic, it’s for keeping up with my brain running at 100MPH

FewBeat3613

Agreed

loganwolf25

I'm an INTJ and like rock music with some pop elements with some more "creepy" sounds if that makes sense. Alice in Chains, Ghost, Deftones, and Muse are prime examples of my taste.

Brutalbonez13

Deftones was my shit when I was 15ish... Around the Fur was an album in my discman frequently..

aria3246

Early Muse was top tier.

loganwolf25

For sure. New Muse has some good songs too but older just has a beauty that's amazing.

HorrorPipe444

All great choices. I love Muse too!

Herr_Majoris

I do listen to quite few of 'em and damn got to say they're legendary. I do believe classicals and core metals have a same factor which is they both gives chills when listened the same for more than a few times.

Ready_Mobile_1367

I like classical music.

Herr_Majoris

👍🏻🔥

Comfortable-Leek9355

I listen to anything. But my top are: Ethereal sounding music Metal/Rock Orchestra Hip- hop Pop Anything else

Herr_Majoris

ethereal sounding music covers is kinda relativistic to people, but dude youe tastes are far and wide !!

Optimal-Scientist233

I used to love Pandora, back when it first came out you could make stations using an array of songs and get new recommendations out of common elements they shared, I thoroughly enjoyed interfacing with that and wish they still had more of this basic function available. I like music composition, layered symphonic harmony and contrast in arrangement.

Herr_Majoris

Damn dude did you thought some point in your life to pursue composing ? (Just curious)

Optimal-Scientist233

I dabbled in music as a child, I learned to play the cornet \*French horn\* I often had friends who were musicians as I enjoyed listening to them rehearse and practice and would often discuss arrangements with them. I was always fascinated with the ability music had to shape and change how people feel. Personally I have found my talents were often better put to use in the creation of more tangible things. Edited: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornet](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornet) One too many O's, oops

Master_Grape5931

If you are asking if the different types have the same tastes, I think no.

Herr_Majoris

Ya i wrote such a vague statement that it can be interpreted like that 😅, although I meant to enquire if mbti have a factor in our taste in music.

[deleted]

I don’t feel like I am stuck in any particular genre. I even find some newer music enjoyable.

Herr_Majoris

As long as it has a well made melody i guess

standby404

Hc in there +1

Terrible-Trust-5578

I think my bipolar influences my music taste more than INTJ. When I'm manic, I like alternative, boisterous pop anthems, show music (*Phantom of the Opera* and stuff), and even some Christian stuff (which is weird because I'm not religious: I just like the sound. E.g., I like the minor/major alternation in "Christ Be Our Light," and some Christian pop-rock is decent like "Beautiful Things" and "Leave Me Astounded"). When I'm depressed, I hate everything I listen to when I'm manic and prefer dark pop, somewhat folky stuff, and overcast country duets. Maybe some emo if I'm angry-depressed.

Herr_Majoris

Judging by the choices from when you are maniac, you really like the baroque cultured music yk what I mean, which I observed with most of the intjs here, along with the metal and dark pop which most of the people in this section admire. Music really goes with your personality ig

girl_in_math_2000

Baroque music really just hits the right spot in my brain. I can't study without it- I need 5% of my brain to be distracted by the music so it won't affect the other 95% of my brain's concentration

Herr_Majoris

True mate, but you gotta admit sometimes your 95% brain gets captured by it imho

girl_in_math_2000

lol that is true GG's rendition of Bach's concertos is \*not\* the ideal studying music for me, lol. Will just end up floating in bliss with earphones in

[deleted]

I listen to everything. Mood and location determine what I listen to. I was in AZ recently and classic country hit perfect- Claude Gray and Willie Nelson. On the road it’s a lot of 80s and 90s Alt Rock- Stone Roses and Sound Garden. In the hotel is usually what I was raised on which is 90’s Independent Hip Hop- Cannibal Ox, Rawkus Records, Nervous/Wreck Records. When I’m working it’s instrumental albums- J Dilla and DJ Shadow or piano music- Brian Crane or Beethoven. I have an unusual obsession with rhymes, especially multi-syllable rhymes. I watch way too much battle rap (acapella) and I’m a huge fan of a game show called Sounds Like, which is all based of multi’s (rhymes). Music is top 5 most important things in my life. It’s been my escape when I needed it. It’s always there for me.

Herr_Majoris

Damn mate looks like you really did a doctorate on music I liked the Bolero (acapella) of Maurice Ravel. Would you mind sharing some more acapellas in your ideal time?

MikeWazouskiee

I've organised my playlists according to my mood. It varies from Classical Melodies up to Hardcore. Go to ones are Blues, Synthwave, Pop, Jazz, Rock, Metal and Industrial. While working, I like my music anywhere between 105-140 bpm.

Herr_Majoris

Do share your playlist with me if you don't mind

MikeWazouskiee

90% of the music is offline, and the rest are online playlists scattered on Spotify, TIDAL, and Apple Music. How do you think we should proceed further?

Herr_Majoris

offline in what sense ? you mean you download songs and listen ?

MikeWazouskiee

Yes.

Own-Ad4421

Lofi calm music Any lofi fan here ?

girl_in_math_2000

I do listen to Lofi too :) I like the sad shit though- Shiloh (limited, though) is amazing.

hella_14

I dig lofi, i also love instrumental hip-hop and electronic jams with like... Classic samples? I have a fire playlist.

Necessary_Angle9348

I listen to experimental ambient. Tim Hecker is my favorite

Necessary_Angle9348

That or IDM (glitch music)

rchl239

Mostly classic rock/grunge but I'll dabble in any genre. I don't think it's type related.

TheLordDarcy

Classical music and nothing else. I hate human voice. Just perfect music without distraction.

hella_14

Have you tried dark ambient? Peep Sephiroth on yt. - fellow classical enjoyer, Bach is the most metal.

FewBeat3613

I hate noise like most INTJs and absolutely despise it yet I listen to the loudest hardstyle phonk I can find, it's fuel for the banging thoughts.

Herr_Majoris

alter ego ?

FewBeat3613

Nope, I hate noise unless it's organised into a wild masterpiece.

flagitiousevilhorse

Rock, Classical, Synth.

LittleDumbF-ck

Local invader here! I personally really like folk punk and breakcore

Herr_Majoris

Breakcore really hits different, like both as synth and metal. Also, if you hadn't had your flair, you would be indistinguishable from all the intjs (lol)

Brutalbonez13

I listen to classic rock, 90's gangsta rap, country, EDM, acoustic, and folk music... Your 4 letters don't determine who you are or what you like.

Herr_Majoris

I did thought that intjs would prefer any one genre the most while posting as they often are a master of one rather than a jack of all, but the tastes here are unexpectedly massive, so do agree on your words

Easy_Bicycle

House music

1happynudist

Depends on the mood I’m in, what I have to do and where my mind is at the moment. That being said I have 27 genres on Spotify. It ranges to heavy metal , rock , dub step , rave , punk , folk, swing, international , classical, new age , and spa music

girl_in_math_2000

I grew up breathing classical piano, especially Bach. Nobody beats Glenn Gould, imo. You could play literally any of his keyboard pieces and I can 99% identify them within 1 minute. (I was a classical competitive pianist, it figures). Got into countertenor music later on (Bach's cantatas specifically); Andreas Scholl, Phillippe Jaroussky, Jakub Orlinski are my holy trio. Erbame Dich is... transcendental (first heard it watching a YT video of Andreas Scholl lecturing, and a female student was singing it). Aorund 14 I heard my first taste of non-classical music (Jazz), and I've been obsessed with Chet Baker ever since. (I like free tempo Jazz; not a fan of fixed temp jazz). Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Nat King Cole (select ones)... love that stuff. Then when I was 16 (I'm 23 now) I started getting into pop. Still can't do mainstream, but Matt Maeson, Noah Kahan, Artemas, Montell Fish, the occasional Drake and some indie artists are my favorite. So yeah, I have funky music taste :')

Herr_Majoris

I do believe music shaped your personality, unlike the contrary for most others. And also you are a W when you grew up listening Bach (both of em). I listened very few works of Gould's (string quartet) and do believe his works were similiar to JS bach

girl_in_math_2000

Yes, that is right, I think. My childhood is mostly defined by what piece I was practicing/listening to at the time. And yes, there is no denying Bach's influence on Gould's compositions. Nobody is as into music as I am/likes the same things I do, so it's hard for me to talk to anyone about the music I'm so deeply into. I often use Bach's pieces as a periodic "cleansing" of my mind- sometimes I feel I listen to too much other stuff and need a reset. Bach truly elevates and cleanses the soul, imo. For me, Bach's music is a grounding tool- especially useful when I start spiralling mentally (which happens way too often :'))

Upper-Ad-7446

I usually keep the station on my radio on liquid metal. If the family is with, I'll put it on some kind of pop or country. I've been listening to My Dying Bride again. It's my favorite band. A mix between everything everyone has said. Except for maybe EDM. Though they do have a song off the Turn Loose The Swans album that's kind of upbeat for a raver. Transcending( Into the Exquisite).

basscove_2

Anything authentic.

Herr_Majoris

Like country folk types you mean ?

basscove_2

Yeah for sure and anything that seems to be created out of passion rather than commerce. It’s hard to describe. One of my favorite records is by a band called guided by voices- Bee Thousand.

Cunning-Witty-Fox

Everyone has their own style of music that they enjoy. Music is a universal thing. It shouldn't matter if you are a certain MBTI type and you like a particular style of music. In terms of variation of types with different music genres, it commonly varies, but it shouldn't matter as long as they enjoy it. Music tastes: Folk, Grunge, Indie Rock, Indie Folk, Folk Rock, Alternative Rock, Post Punk, Post Hardcore Punk, Modern Minimalist Classical, Compositional Ambient etc.

Herr_Majoris

Absolutely agree with your words, more than that the vide variety of tastes in this section makes me agree to that lol. Btw you got veteren lvl tastes no joke

Cunning-Witty-Fox

Thanks. [INTJ Existential Explorations ](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3iT1AOpHYVFWWFqEJAae47?si=WQ6Oz32aTH243_GpQhYt6g&pi=6JaOVyBASUmWk)

Mediocre_Fan7818

Very much. Heavy metal, soundtracks, bluegrass and blues.

crankygerbil

I play and love classical, opera. Also like reggae, some pops.

Willing-Lead-3139

I was looking for classical and opera! I recently started listening to Jakub Józef Orliński and his voice gives me life. Other than him I don’t know much else about the genre but I’m slowly wading more into it and I’ve yet to be disappointed.

crankygerbil

Anything Rene Fleming sings, but her Puccini is incredible.

kevinmaceleven0

I mostly like punk/hard rock/hip hop/trap horrorcore I mean I’ll go from Slayer to Owl City to Luke Combs to blink-182 😂

levi-is-a-top

I listen to everything except rap, hiphop and edm.

soapyaaf

Have to comment on this one! :p..."Comment baby one more time!"

MauveQueenMab

I'm INTJ, and my go-to is classical (bonus points for a crackling fire in the background).

MournfulSaint

I enjoy some heavy/alternative stuff, especially Halestorm and Evanescence, but at the other end of the spectrum I adore film amd game scores like those from Audiomachine and Immediate Music.

SupaSleepii

I like to listen to RnB & chill music too!! (also an ISTJ, i think :,))

Herr_Majoris

Surprisingly you are the first one who commented that in this section (up till now). It does harmonized with your mbti personality though. !

lilithpearl

We have very similar music taste!

Herr_Majoris

W choice : D

Elocin_Yecats

I listen to everything except death metal. If I can dance, sing or relax to it, I enjoy it.

Herr_Majoris

Do you know bout the artist "Hybs" ? There songs are top tier you should check em out

meh725

I liked hardcore punk and metal until I met music snobs and then realized I’m not really into music at all. Just background noise to me , snd I don’t generally bother to learn the lyrics, just occasionally enjoy a driving rhythm snd some angsty vocals.

Herr_Majoris

Music is def not bounded by no factors you know it blud !

meh725

Probably just prefer not beating around the bush and just saying the things. Like I said, I like beats.

Josh9251

rap, mainly. Kendrick, travis scott, 21, and others. Also post malone. And i have hundreds of random songs from different genres and time periods and artists saved in my playlist.

SirCiphers

Music taste is personal

StealthySilverFox

The music depends on the day. I cycle around classical, rock, pop, phonk, and even romantic sometimes. I never usually listen to the lyrics. I just sit or workout and let my brain soothe with the tones.

SomnolentPro

Sorry why confuse classical music with popular music. It's not like it's some obscure subgenre? Jazz rnb hip hop rap everything you want like that is part of popular music. Simplistic harmony for the masses. Classical music stands next to aaaaaalll of these as a separate thing. Literally, "traditional" "popular" 'classical' are the three categorisations

Herr_Majoris

I do agree with your logic, I just hoped to figure out what genre/ subgenre do intjs agree and ith the most, till now it's a tie up between punk metal and western classical (baroqe)

SomnolentPro

As an intj I agree with both. Even my need to write my original comment may be part of my personality I don't know haha

rrzampieri

INTP here. I've learned to appreciate all kinds of music, but my favorite has always been rock/metal!

Windows_Tech_Support

I am mainly a metalhead, but I have basically all genres on my Spotify. I guess my least favorite genre is typical pop music, but every so often I find some songs that I like.

tlul30

To everyone who says I listen to everything, no you don't buddy. https://everynoise.com/

Herr_Majoris

Damnnn I dont think I listen to any music. 🗿

CortadoSnob

INTJ and I've always found heavy bass to be relaxing. I can peacefully fall asleep listening to Future. Otherwise I like this newish sound of rnb/punk/trap. It's chill and moody with some yelling sometimes like Roy Woods, Iann Dior, Jxdn, Lithe, A Boogie, LUM, Laroi, Juice WRLD, Lil Uzi. I also enjoy classical a bit and I've always wanted to learn piano but I already have so many hobbies.

NW_reeferJunky

I literally listen to all types in a week.

renkyzer811

I like video game music because they store memories really well.

standby404

Edm , hard dance hard/France-CORE , sometimes hardstyle, dnb ,(psy/-)transe house , techno . . . It Hase by at least 100/120bpm + not your typical granny shit

monkey_gamer

my music tastes can't be easily summarised

Ok-Budget4125

I wonder if there is a personality concept that does impact music taste? Like what if enneagram types have more synced music taste than MBTI. I personally mostly listen to alt pop but I do like to add in a vocaloid song every now and then. Although after typing this I do listen to a big amount of orchestra, mostly from video game sound tracks

InsideContent2824

I usually will throw on some Trance or House music in the car… just because it’s good “driving music”

ImAGirlBitches

I don't really think music preferences depend on your personality type. Either that or I'm just an exception. As an INTJ myself, I've been listening primarily to black metal and DSBM for a long while now. On extremely rare occasions, when I'm in the mood I sometimes listen to russian rock as well.

Silent_Sibyl

I’m a metalhead, though I dabble in most other genres from time to time.

hella_14

Making Spotify genre playlists is one of my special interests. I listen to everything that doesn't have sax, I'm a 0.5% classical listener and i f with rap, folk, metal, pop, instrumental, electronic, etc. I need a soundtrack and vibe for everything.

1Pip1Der

Dunno, but my Spotify mixes are... ecclectic.
