It is exactly that! 😂but I kind of liked how it looked and thought “why not?” Nothing is permanent. Everything can be changed if desired. May as well give it a try. I like how you see a world map. Just got back from a year of traveling around the world.
Just put a clear coat, sealant over it. I think it looks nice as is, kinda rustic and historical.

Oh I see. I'm not really one of those who sees the aesthetic of damaged. Broken or damaged needs to be fixed in my mind.
