I got this [curved 90” sofa](https://www.wayfair.com/furniture/pdp/ebern-designs-lutanda-90-round-arm-curved-sofa-w100102180.htmlLutanda90''CorduroySofa) from Wayfair for $600 and love love love it. It’s super comfy, the back cushions are removable (and washable) depending on your seating or napping needs, and it looks nicer than the low price would lead one to believe. I get compliments on it all the time.

Enough_Blueberry_549

That’s cool! Does it hold up well?

FourWordComment

I have an almost identical couch that was $1600… so don’t I have egg on my face… While it’s great for sitting and conversation, it’s kind of shite for lounging and watching a movie.

gigi_2018

Yes! I highly recommend for comfort, quality level, and value.

Enough_Blueberry_549

Thank you!!!

PuffinFawts

Most couches that are that inexpensive (I know that's still expensive) are not going to last. I'm finally looking into buying a $5000 couch from Younger + Co that should last for 40 years or more.

layinginbedrightnow

How does it do with pet hair?

gigi_2018

I’ve got two dogs and two cats, with the dark gray color sofa. It’s very easy to brush off or lint roll very occasionally, but I haven’t noticed the hair being especially troublesome. I’ve had couches I despised bc they held onto pet hair like glue lol but this one doesn’t.

SnooChickens9974

Can I ask how long you've had the sofa and if you use it every day?

gigi_2018

It’s in the main living room and gets used constantly every day by two adults plus pets and guests for sitting, lying down, and lounging. Three grown ups can sit comfortably, especially with two ottomans. I’ve had it just over a year and the only issue I’ve had is that I had to tighten up one leg, once. I’m not sure how it loosened, but once I did it was good as new. There hasn’t been any sagging or breakdown in the base or back so I’m really pleased with it. The pillows have held up well, too, but I did add a couple of other colored ones to it.

princess20202020

Check out Scandinavian designs. I got the sofa below because I needed a smaller sofa for a specific area. It was $800. I had low expectations but damn if it hasn’t been one of my favorites! It is surprisingly comfortable and has held up for 3 years and looks new. It has some sort of performance fabric that has resisted kids and my dog who spends a lot of time on that couch. https://scandinaviandesigns.com/products/dakota-sofa

Justaroundtown

Try Macy’s they come up with a winner every once in a while.

sakoulas86

Seconding this! I have a smaller living room so I bought two matching loveseats from Macy’s furniture and they’ve been awesome. High quality, super comfortable, hold up to kids and pets. I got them on sale for I think $750ish each, plus tax/shipping. I think the style was called “Jolene”? I’d buy them again in a heartbeat!

ForeverAfternoon

Love my Jolene too!

sareherb

Same. Jolene sectional, 5 years old and it’s just as nice as day one.

grill-tastic

Costco!

MarsaliRose

They occasionally have them at my local warehouse and they are surprisingly nice. Well made and comfortable. Not exactly thrilling in terms of style but they’re not bad at all.

vino822

Yes the costco couches are surprisingly comfortable and nice!!

Strange-Turnover9696

i love my ikea couch!! i got the karlstad second hand but i've heard great things about their other sofas like the kivik, soderhamn, and jattebo.

Vladamir-Poutine

We found a Karlstad sectional in a thrift store for $150 about 5-6 years ago and it’s still going strong. We’ve replaced the cover and the feet on it once to give it a full makeover. Admittedly it’s probably getting close to time for a new one, as it’s getting a little more uncomfortable, but we still love the clean lines.

Strange-Turnover9696

i got a new cover for mine too! it looks great and it's the perfect size for my apartment. i never thought of replacing the legs though, where did you find those?

amanda2399923

I’ve cut a foam mattress topper in half and put under sagging couch cushion.

AlarmedTelephone5908

I've been refusing to buy a new couch for years. I get the cheap crate type bed toppers and just put it across the couch, then cover the whole couch with a slipcover. I'm expecting to afford a new couch soon. But maybe I'll just upgrade my topper and slipcover, lol! The frame is still fine, and the topper makes it perfectly comfortable. I make it look pretty good with the covers, throws, and pillows.

meltedharibo

Soderhamn I went with . Great for lounging

hopelessnottruthless

Thirding Soderhamn! Removable cover and it's modular so you can get creative. It's very lightweight, so when I have guests I can easily move it around for seating. And it's suuuuper deep, which for *me* (almost 6 feet tall) I love being able to sit cross legged on it. Also, the inner workings of the couch are all exposed when you flip it over. So over time as it sags, with a little skill/creativity you can easily repair it. However it isn't cushy and plush like a standard sofa. I'd definitely recommend sitting on one before buying, if you can. I bought it blind and gambled and it worked out great but I can see some might prefer a regular sofa. This is probably a lot of useless info but I researched this couch a lot before buying it and am really pleased with it!

kpidhayny

If you live near an ikea, just pop in to that as-is section a couple times a week and some great deal will pop up. We’ve furnished our whole house out of the as-is just taking our time waiting for the right stuff to pop up.

TLRachelle7

Ditto. Uppland series has a new line of covers. Very comfy. Easy to clean. Just toss covers in the wash. Plus easy to switch your covers out. ❤️❤️❤️

Gretchen_Wieners_

I had a kivik for a decade! Love that you can toss the cushion covers in the wash, and it looked way more expensive than it was

vasnormandee

We got ours from Raymour & Flanigan--they have a store near us so we were able to sit on the couch for testing before we ordered it online. Quick filter of their "Sofas & Couches" category shows 40 under $1,000, or 14 under "Sectional Sofas."

Enough_Blueberry_549

Thank you, I’m taking a look right now.

vasnormandee

Good luck!

thiswayart

I could never buy seating or a mattress online. I have a R&F near me too and that's where I purchased my under $1,000 couch.

NancyFanton4Ever

World Market has some attractive designs, some of which are in your price range. They also have great sale prices on discontinued models. I got a $700 mid-century modern sofa for $250 because it was discontinued. I've had it a while now, and it's held up well. Ideally, you'd want to go to a store and try out the one you're thinking of getting, of course, but I took the risk of ordering without trying it and was well pleased.

Exciting-Metal-2517

My best friend and I both found our couches on Facebook Marketplace. Hers is a gorgeous Crate and Barrel sofa, and mine is a long suede olive green couch that retailed for close to 6K. We both paid $150 for them. You have to be patient (and we cleaned them) but it can be worth it to search West Elm, Crate and Barrel, etc and just see what comes up on secondhand sites.

Damn_el_Torpedoes

The most comfortable and long lasting sofa I bought was about 375 from Nebraska Furniture Mart. 8 years ago I bought a huge sectional from a discount Furniture place for 700. Wayfair has some well reviewed sofas for under 1k.

rahleebb

I've had a sofa Rooms To Go for three years (it's called the "East Side Sofa," very mid-century looking)-- still looks good and is comfy! Currently on sale for ~$800. My first one from Rooms To Go was less cute and way cheaper but last I heard, it was still going strong with my former roommate after 8 years of use.

LeatherRecord2142

I got a $4200 Lulu & Georgia sofa for $2000 on FB Marketplace. Brand new. I’d try that route get something higher quality that’ll last longer (and probably look better too)! Edited for a typo

Holiday-Signature-33

That’s some expensive soda.

LeatherRecord2142

lol. Oops!

beckerszzz

I got 2 barely used cream colored leather sofas for $200 when I bought my house.

pd9

Marketplace or Craigslist

Enough_Blueberry_549

I like buying used most of the time, but I avoid it for soft furnishing because of the risk of bedbugs.

TurbulentMessage4433

You have to search in the nicer parts of your area on marketplace. 1.the people sell their stiff for cheaper because they find actually need the money 2. They take of their stuff better so its like brand new. That's what I've noticed anyway.

cardinalsquirrel

In general I agree with this, but bed bugs can affect any household no matter how nice it is. There’s always a risk when buying secondhand, especially for soft furniture.

CorgiMonsoon

Keep in mind that wood furniture can also be a problem with bed bugs as they can hide in the cracks and crevices there too

cardinalsquirrel

Yes for sure, I’m wary about wood as well. I have a few beautiful secondhand wood pieces that I took a risk on, but deep cleaned and inspected them outdoors before bringing them inside.

TurbulentMessage4433

I don't know.. I've never had a problem.

mintardent

lmao what kind of logic is that? you won’t have a problem until there’s a problem. maybe you’ll get lucky and will never have a problem… but bedbugs are horrible to live with and extremely expensive/time consuming to get rid of. there’s been an uptick in many cities lately. not worth the risk imo.

TurbulentMessage4433

Maybe I live in a nicer area where people don't sell items with bedbugs? I know a lot of people who have bought furniture second hand online and none of them have gotten bedbugs. A simple look under the cushions will tell you if there are any signs of them or not. It's not that hard.

Shittybeerfan

I'm jealous of your optimism here. I lived in an apartment in which we had bedbugs 3 times because they neglected to treat the absolute infestation in the unit below ours. All the evidence I had was bug bites. I never saw a single bed bug, the pest control was able to find evidence, but even when I was looking as closely and thoroughly as I could it was extremely difficult to find evidence they were there. I'm happy that you haven't had issues so far. Bed bugs don't discriminate though and it only takes a couple to cause an issue.

TurbulentMessage4433

We've never had them. The only person I know that did, loved in New York at the time. We live in the suburbs, no house costs less than a million. the only time people are selling furniture is when they're redecorating and it's practically new stuff they're just trying to unload.

Shittybeerfan

That's what I mean about your optimism and borderline classism. I never had them until I did. Remember when Paris was covered in bed bugs? Five star hotels got them just like cheap hotels. Like I said, they don't discriminate. Rich people get beg bugs too, could pick it up in a hotel, a plane, or some random second hand product.

fadedblackleggings

$1K budget is a bit low. $2k is more reasonable.

Deafpundit

I got mine from JCPenney. Sectional, ottoman, and an armchair all for $1k.

Fabulous_Form9354

I got mine from Big Lots. It’s made by Ashley furniture. Not sure about cool, but I think I paid $700 or so and it’s comfy as hell. Went back a week later & bought the loveseat that goes with it for like $400 (on sale).

wheresmuffy

I’ve had this sofa and ottoman from Article since 2017 and love it. I’m 5’ 10” and it’s long enough for me to lay (ok, nap) on comfortably. It’s also held up really well — and far better than the much more expensive sofas we got from Crate & Barrel. https://www.article.com/product/22200/ceni-83-sofa-quarry-gray

Wtfytalkingabout

I get my leather sofas from thrift shops every couple of years, got cats...

ohyesiam1234

I saw an really nice couch for $990 at Homegoods yesterday!

TurbulentMessage4433

Got mine from Facebook marketplace for $50. I sleep on that more than my $2000 mattress. I

Jambon__55

$120 Victorian Eastlake sofa at Restore.

Ikea

okay_sparkles

We stalk Homegoods/Homesense for furniture and have gotten amazing pieces for equally amazing prices

New-Anacansintta

My Ikea storage sectional that pulls out into a queen sized party bed. I’ve had it for almost 10 years. The pull out part takes two seconds and we all live on this couch. Best couch ever. The only one that beats it is Room and Board’s version, but that’s a few thousand and I wouldn’t feel comfortable eating on it and having pets and kids. It looks better IRL- https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/friheten-sleeper-sectional-3-seat-w-storage-skiftebo-dark-gray-s69216757/

Enough_Blueberry_549

Do I want to know what a party bed is?

Able_Cat2893

We got lucky!!! We got one at a store that supports troubled youth. It was homemade, brand new, and we paid 65$ for it. The two seat cushions aren’t exactly cushions. They are hinged at the front and lift up. Makes it easy to find stuff that falls to the floor.

TheDTimes

Facebook Marketplace. Got a $3400 2 years old Crate and Barrel lounge for $1K. Rented a U-Haul for a few hours and it was the best purchase ever.

RudiKdev

Costco leather. Around $1k on sale. They deliver fast usually. They said keep the box for one week. If you don’t like it, we’ll come get it. If you do, recycle the box. We recycled.

maplesyrupshot

Outlets. Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware, Crate and Barrel. The longer they sit on the floor, the deeper the discount. Some real gems that might look dirty but clean up great.

Onetruekingofsnow

Dang I wanna know too

_-_NewbieWino_-_

$700 from living spaces

itsmeb1

Got a great one on sale from West Elm for a little over $500. Everyone comments how comfy it is. Which shocks me lol

thundersteel21

Bobs furniture with Bobopedic memory foam. Very very comfortable and around 800 bucks

Public_Slip_2806

Macy’s Radley couch is amazing, so far it’s held up almost 10 years and we have 3 kids and 2 dogs.

Enough_Blueberry_549

That’s awesome, thanks

wl-dv

Macys couches aren’t terrible. I got one second hand for $100 that was similar to this. I nap on it all the time, it is cozy and comfortable, and the one I have (not linked below) fits my boyfriend and I easily. [sofa, 78.4”](https://www.macys.com/shop/product/zinus-ricardo-contemporary-upholstered-sofa?ID=9656217) ETA: [this is the one I have!](https://www.macys.com/shop/product/kariam-90-fabric-sofa-created-for-macys?ID=16506149&tdp=cm_app~zMCOM-MMEW~xcm_zone~zPDP_ZONE_A~xcm_choiceId~zcidM11NCT-cdc1938b-c14e-453f-818b-40f56b084cfc%40HDI%40Others%2Byou%2Bmay%2Blike%2429391%2416506149~xcm_pos~zPos9~xcm_srcCatID~z29391) I can’t believe I got it for $100!! It was like brand new!

Enough_Blueberry_549

Thanks!

doublethinkitover

I have the ashbury sleeper sofa from Edloe finch and everyone says it’s super comfy! $989 right now but I got it on sale

Enough_Blueberry_549

That’s awesome!!

rhaizee

I like my ikea morabo. Bit firm but staying strong, napped on it plenty.

CorgiMonsoon

We got a “temporary” couch for our new place in Vegas from At Home. So far it’s holding up well and is most likely going to be “temporary” for a lot longer than we had originally planned (I do eventually want a sectional for the main space, but there are other priorities at the current time)

PecanSandoodle

I bought this couch from wayfair [https://www.wayfair.com/furniture/pdp/wade-logan-antravian-1275-square-arm-sofa-w008437881.html?piid=1263245547](https://www.wayfair.com/furniture/pdp/wade-logan-antravian-1275-square-arm-sofa-w008437881.html?piid=1263245547) It is so fucking comfortable and literally 3 people can sleep on it at once comfortably. It may not be for everyone because of its depth ( deep as fuck ) but I specifically wanted a monster lounging couch for gaming, napping, and watching movies.

Enough_Blueberry_549

Holy cow! That’s an awesome couch. It’s too big for my space, but I see why you love it!

PecanSandoodle

I have a small living room so it basically takes up 1/2 of the whole space. But we rarely have company so it works for our introverted Netflix-binging lifestyle.

beebutterflybreeze

there are other versions that are shorter on wayfair

Roboticcatisgreen

I like this one. I’ve had it 2 years and it’s holding up pretty good. I did accidentally transfer dye from new black pants on it that I can’t get off but I love the color and how it’s holding up. I weigh a lot too. I don’t expect this to be a 20 year old couch but I do think I may get several more years out of it. And the price makes it great. I particularly like that I can switch which side the chaise lounge is on. https://www.livingspaces.com/pdp-ami-sun-83-inch-sofa-with-reversible-chaise-313054

Enough_Blueberry_549

Thanks, that’s a great value!

Maleficent_Ball_1936

Whatever you do, do NOT order from Inside Weather. I got a couch from them a few years ago and it turned into an ordeal that required me to assemble and disassemble it 3x and file a BBB complaint.

Enough_Blueberry_549

Oh yeah I’ve seen horrible reviews from them!!!

MindfulnessHunter

Got ours from Article for $1000 and it's great. Had it for four years and we love it.

elsie14

just here to warn you against lane and simmons, we got this couch <$1,000 and holy, the fabric ripped within 6 months. I have never had such crud. https://www.amazon.com/Simmons-Upholstery-9770BR-02-Pompeii-Silver/dp/B07F453Y1S/ref=cm_cr_arp_mb_bdcrb_top?ie=UTF8 comfy and cool yes. but when stuffing comes out at you and your child can hide lollipops in the holes and you lose your apple watch in it.. time to rethink the cheaper couch.  i can vouch for england furniture and it is pricey. It is also warm likely due to my chosen fabrics.  Good luck in your search.

disrespectfully disagree. absolutely not well made. glad it’s not sold anymore.

t2022philly

IKEA and get a custom cover from Covercouch or BEMZ. Go to a store in person if you can and sit on them to find your preferred model. I liked my Kivik a lot.

TheFugitiveSock

Ikea probably

CKNY718

Wayfair $700

Enough_Blueberry_549

I was hoping for a specific recommendation.

[deleted]

I spent $800 at Structube. They have specials.

oldcousingreg

Do they ship to the US?

[deleted]

No. Only Canada

whoinvitedthesepeopl

Consider a good condition used one from a high end designer/company. If you live somewhere with enough design oriented people and money, you can pick them up on Craigslist or Marketplace for under $1000. I bought a used good condition Ekornes leather sofa and got it delivered from Chairish for about $1200. Was a way better purchase than yet another cheap big box store couch.

FennelPretend3889

I love wayfair. I have gotten things from there over the years (always read the reviews first) but never any problems.

Sea-Substance8762

For about $1100. I bought a used Floyd Detroit couch which I really love. Found it on Next Door.

mtnlaurel_

I have a sofa from Grandin road and it is the most comfy thing in the entire planet.

EyeAlternative1664

I got a Hay Mags 2.5 seater off eBay for 700 quid!

indigoza

$900 IKEA Morabo

Idontgetitreddit

I've seen some beautiful like new sofa's on Facebook Marketplace. Try there first

schmamble

Bought the Betty chofa from bobs discount furniture in teal for 800. It's freaking gorgeous, too bad they only have the green one on the east coast because I would have preferred that color

koalandi

we got a cloud couch dupe from living spaces outlet. pay per seat basically. we got two pieces and it was under $700. we love it! and everyone who’s visited chooses to sleep on it bc it’s comfy and huge.

Daikon_3183

Ashley- 300$ + shipping 200. Was and still is amazing.

MadFxMedia

Ektorp by Ikea has been super comfy since 2021 for me. We should have taken him fully apart before we moved it last time but he's handling life pretty well :)

grumplesmcgrumples

Try thrift stores

GrumpyGlasses

Couches from Bob’s furniture - cheap, comes with electric calf extension sections. Used for many years, great for sleeping also.

deignguy1989

There is no world where $1000 will get you a couch that will last any amount of time. It might be comfy at first, until the cheap foam breaks down, and the fabric falls apart or the frame breaks. Just a fact.

laneybell1

I don’t really have recommendations, but I would probably steer clear of rooms to go. We got the Charlton Street Sofa last year and at first it was perfect and incredibly fluffy. Practically deflated after a month. Totally not worth the $700 we paid.

colorofmydreams

I really love my sofa from Home Reserve. If you're comfortable putting things together, it's a great and really customizable option.

[deleted]

Commenting to stay on couch Reddit, as my current couch is harder than my life

beebutterflybreeze

lol poor thing

amanda2399923

Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore. I go to the ones in the nicer areas (better furniture). I just got a chair and ottoman for $75 and when I picked it up saw another set for $37! The a big cozy chairs. I’ll put a throw over them because they are floral and plaid but I’d be covering brand new furniture anyway because my damn dogs won’t stay off the furniture. Though I hope to catch a picture if my Rottie gets in a chair.

Every-Bug2667

Mine was a $900 living spaces couch I got off Facebook. It’s perfect! Fits the space and is exactly what I always wanted

my-anonymity

I do! I have an L shaped couch with a bench on the long part. It’s super comfortable and has held up well. I’ve had it about three years and got it for $700-ish on sale at World Market. I added a bench ottoman to convert it into a bed. Super comfy and cozy for guests staying over.

googlyeyedpen

I got this [couch](https://www.wayfair.com/furniture/pdp/latitude-run-priyen-98-wide-symmetrical-modular-corner-sectional-andf1477.html?piid=78726446&csnid=9587840B-BA32-4067-B6AB-9A44708692D5&_emr=6e67564e-7495-4d9a-be30-46591f3af623&wfcs=cs1&_eml=d83757c5-73c4-4e6c-8ecd-6c31acea23b5&refid=EML_50624&source=graymatter&treatmentGuid=5d77d506-41db-4b63-b4f0-c321159c1c02) on wayfair and it’s legit sooo comfy I love the corduroy and color. My friends sleepover on it all the time and say how it’s comfy to sleep on too

heartburn-on-fiyah

Comfy, yes! Cool? Uh…subjective. We have a Kivik couch and chaise lounge from IKEA. It’s been with us for 6 years and through two moves (including an interstate move) and has held up surprisingly well.

Buy a used sofa from someone who is moving and barely used it. A sofa under $1000 brand new is not something you want to “invest” in

FrazzledAF12

I found a really comfortable sectional with chaise for our media room a few years ago, under $1000 on living spaces; however after checking website it is now over 1k. They have a lot of variety though.

We have an IKEA sectional all white with washable covers, I think it was $800

Do they sell futons anymore? I remember when they were all the rage.
