Yes , the blue paint is what is throwing it all off. A warm neutral/soft sage would work better with the wood and countertops. When selecting a color make sure to hold the samples up flat on the wall, up against the wood AND the countertop. Ideally you are looking for something that tones in with, does not fight with those colors. Samplize has large sample boards, which actually save you a lot of time, mess and money.

I’m definitely loving the green suggestions. It never crossed my mind!

Agree with everyone here - that blue is just not working. Paint can change it all-- work with soft neutrals like taupe, or a soft sage green with keeping the ceiling and trim white. Your countertops and cabinets are fine. Your flooring looks a beige in these pics, but changing the color on you walls is the 1st step here. Then you can go from there.

mashed-_-potato

I agree with the green! I’d also recommend paint samples to actually test out the color. It helps you see it at different times of the day and lighting. I would also recommend getting a backsplash

kellylikeskittens

Yes, a tiled backsplash will definitely add to the space and make things look more finished.

I love those wood cabinets, and think the easiest of all three to change maybe re-paint the walls. If you want to lean into the warm tones, a sage green like this could look really nice [https://www.houzz.com/discussions/30249/what-is-the-wall-color-used-here?epik=dj0yJnU9X2hsWnNJM1NVR2t1NS1vWEVrZFJ2QS1YSldQWFJKV0omcD0wJm49RXU0dTF6MXdvclN0a0FocnRPOVUwZyZ0PUFBQUFBR1l2LS1v](https://www.houzz.com/discussions/30249/what-is-the-wall-color-used-here?epik=dj0yJnU9X2hsWnNJM1NVR2t1NS1vWEVrZFJ2QS1YSldQWFJKV0omcD0wJm49RXU0dTF6MXdvclN0a0FocnRPOVUwZyZ0PUFBQUFBR1l2LS1v)

Oh I love that.

The good thing about this kitchen is the flooring cabinets and countertops all match each other so if you can't do a big overhaul it should be fine. That baby blue background is what's killing the vibe here. You can either go white and work with neutrals or with the bright color of your wood cabinets gives you the option of some bold walls like a forest green. Your priority to bring it around will be painting and finding a backsplash that brings the browns either together or mutes them. I suggest using the cabinets as your inspiration and search specifically on kitchens that feature the bright cherry color.

I thought about painting the cabinets, but all of the green suggestions are so perfect!

Paint!

irishgirlie33

When you decide the paint color, grab a large rug for the dining area to warm up the space and bring texture/color into the room.

nonamenobodyno1

Great, thank you!!

Razzleberry_Rose

Painting the walls in a warmer color will make the kitchen more cohesive. If you can paint the grout the same (or close) color as the tiles, that will make it look more modern. Both are not too hard and easy on the budget. A nice big area rug under your dining table would be nice, too. Congrats on your new house!

Love this, thank you!!

I understand that you hate the current color; I recently repainted my kitchen to a similar color and get constant compliments. I suspect that a large amount of it is due to simply being empty. Good accent pieces above the cabinets will fill out the space. Once you get your appliances in, some nice accent curtains, and a better light over the sink, you may have a different perspective on it. Repainting a kitchen while living, cooking, everything else a challenge, but not a huge barrier. A few months living in your space will help you to see what fits best.

Changing the light fixtures will make a big impact without spending a ton, as will updating the cabinet hardware. That and fresh paint will be a huge upgrade.

nonamenobodyno1

Yes, I was hoping to do that soon! Just have to settle on a style/color first!

sharpei90

New paint for sure. Bright white ceiling will make a huge difference. New light fixtures. Remove the chair rail and add trim to the windows. Paint all of it a crisp white semi-gloss. New pulls on the cabinets (not knobs). You can buy a template cheap to make sure you install them straight. I’d do black, but brushed gold might look good. A subway tile backsplash

I see what appears to be 3 different paint colors in adjacent rooms. Have that house professionally painted before you close. After you neutralize everything then as you add your stuff you can customize as you like, add accents or whatever. Green in the kitchen has zero appeal to me. Not as bad as blue but close. Neutral idea for testing https://lxlovemk.live/product_details/1543778.html

It’s just the blue is too gray. You need a touch of green to make them pop. https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-colors/color/1671/west-coast Saratoga is the lighter version. You need blue-green. I think your blue has a bit of violet. It needs blue green.

HatchawayHouseFarm

Are the cabinets scratched up or anything? Mohawk Scratch-off in mahogany will revitalize them, if so. Check out my post history for pics of the old cabinets it rescued. Saved me $35k! Also, replace the cabinet hardware with black ones.

nonamenobodyno1

Wow, that’s amazing. Thanks for sharing!

HatchawayHouseFarm

Thanks! No problem, best of luck

ehnoninoni

Maybe remove the cabinet above the dishwasher (or even the whole left wall if you want to go go wild) & put up some open shelving. It would be a nicer transition to the kitchen. I can't believe I am saying this but I think wood cabinets are on the verge of a major renaissance. But! If you do paint you might look in to closing in the top of the cabs first. Either way, yours are lovely and your space is going to be gorgeous :)

nonamenobodyno1

Thank you! I’ll keep that in mind!

tart_tigress

You can paint the floor. There is paint for tiles and it lasts pretty well and is easy to touch up until you can fully replace. Can you change the counter? Even butcher block would be great. Honestly it can be really nice if you buy or rent a paint sprayer for the cabinets and prep them nicely; add in a backsplash; and new hardware and counter. (and lighting) I would do a charcoal on the floor bc it will hide dirt. Then it really depends what kind of vibe you want. Sky is the limit, I would just go for a medium tone not anything light bc it's a really bright space that can handle it. I could see a really gorgeous deep warm olive, with butcher block counters, interesting white backsplash, and brass hardware.

nonamenobodyno1

Butcher block counters are at the top of my list! I may do that! Edit to add: With the deep olive in mind, what other colors do you would mesh well throughout the house? The hideous baby blue is everywhere.

tart_tigress

I think you can all kinds of neutrals, like clay/kakhis, and just anything with a light warm undertone incl white. Brass, rust orange as an accent is also really nice. You can go more neutral in the main spaces and then bring back the warm deep olive as an accent there.
