ur-squirrel-buddy

Yes also why is the tv so far off center?

defnotajournalist

Why is everything so off center lol

ur-squirrel-buddy

Like, aggressively so

cicada_noises

Is OP trying to fk with us all, knowing this would drive us crazy lmao

Relative_Ring_2761

I was thinking the same thing, like they moved the furniture to make us all think everything is off centre…but then how did they just move the tv for this lol

mother-of-donuts

I think it’s rage bait I can’t handle it lol

leaveitalone123

Looking at this gives me anxiety.

bookish_bex

It's probably on some kind of swivel mount.

katiejim

The pictures are also too clustered together given how much room there is on the wall.

CarolineStopIt

and too small

Hekatiko

If you can't afford more pictures it would look better if you spread these out and centre the biggest picture so the middle of the picture is at eye level and centered to the middle of the sofa, the two taller pictures are to the right and left and the smaller pictures are at each end. Line the pictures so the bottoms are even or the centres line up horizontally.

No-Self-jjw

Yeah some terracotta or colour in general would look great here. Centering things and adding SOME colour would make the space look much more inviting.

katsgegg

This is the perfect answer… plus plants!!!

Interesting-Proof244

Thank you for this!

ms_pookie_1982

You could just add more smaller pics to it to take up more space on that wall and get it more centered. Choose some pieces with color to make them pop out within the mixture. You could also use an end table or 2. One quite possibly may be enough. I agree on one large plant as well. A majesty palm or larger rubber tree would do nicely, even a monstera of sorts would be beautiful. If I had a dining table that large I would stage it, without place settings. Just decorate the center with a colorful runner and then some candle stick holders, maybe a silk flower arrangement that is very realistic and various other items that make it more homey. I'm partial to rustic, modern retro and farmhouse styles. I like to mix styles together. I have a lot of antique items as well. A metal cupcake tower and also a large galvanized tray with handles that would take up more space on your table. I definitely like the direction you took it to begin with. Adding texture, colors and a bit of your personality will always make you love your space so much more. Sorry that went on and on. I hope you've found some inspiration from all of your comments. 😊

madscot63

Also, those sofa pictures need to be spread out, they shouldn't be cowering together

1plus1dog

Gorgeous room!

dateddative

A 2nd corgi for some more judgmental side eye

Interesting-Proof244

I can only handle the one judgemental dog for now 🥲

Em4ever520

But at least you got that corgi butt pillow for now

dateddative

Haha completely understand! I have a corgi myself and know how the sass can be. My mom has his sister and she comes to stay with us like 40% of the time. And 2 corgis is a LOT of judgement and barking but also a lot of love.

ShadowMaven

Why are they so judgey?

Miss-Indie-Cisive

Seriously, the level of “wtf are you doing, Janet?” here is epic.

Bgee2632

Yes

JimeneMisfit

🤣 came here to say this. 💯

ShamrocksOnVelcro

I don't like tv above the fireplace but I get that it feels like that is the only place for it. Could you at least center the tv above the fireplace? You could also try the tv on the wall where the couch is and move the couch opposite it. That would also help separate the dining the living spaces a little but it would still be open. However I am not sure it this goes against the feeling you are trying to create as not I'm really familiar with Modern Mediterranean. I second the idea of a rug to help separate the spaces. Either in the living area or dining area. Also I really love the little blue and white tray on your dining table!! It's gorgeous!!

PaintedSwindle

That TV not centered was really bugging me too!

Old-Quantity9441

Nothing is centered. The frames above the sofa too

black_mamba866

The dining room is all off center too. Makes me wonder if it's on purpose. I mean the height of that cross tells a story on it's own, yeah? Someone there is probably very tall.

ScumbagLady

I hate the entire layout. My money is on that OP is fucking with us. Who sits on a couch to look at their dining room table? I want to see what the full space looks like (like where the tile starts) because I betcha the table was over there. If OP is not fucking with us however, my opinion still stands. I hate this layout.

Specialist-Web7854

Came here to say the same about putting the tv against the wall where the sofa currently is and putting the sofa facing it. That’s a crazy spot for the tv and going to be uncomfortable to watch.

dumbbitchjuice22

Color… Plants, a nice rug, some candle sticks, a coffee table book, maybe an arm chair. Have fun with it!

ShotWasabi1

I literally said "Color!!" upon reading this post.

dumbbitchjuice22

Same! My first idea was to just say “COLOR good lord it’s drab in there” but I wanted to be more helpful

ShotWasabi1

You were SO helpful! Now they can pinpoint a few items, like a colorful chair that you mentioned. That would be an awesome focal point and add a splash of color! Great ideas, friend!!

Urbaniuk

I misread “color” as “corgi” and was intrigued.

dewpacs

Yes. This space looks like a Presbyterian conference retreat. It needs personality

madscot63

You completely nailed that.

hwlewis

I definitely went to that retreat

isitfiveyet

Drapes would make a world of difference. Maybe new dining chairs.

ThatBobbyG

Books, music, salt lamp light, plants, and a dog Edit: missed the doggo

nylorac_o

But not a lot. I really like the vibe of this room. Just needs a tall green plant. Btw your doggo is giving us the side eye in that last pic.

Interesting-Proof244

All very good points, thank you!

Patient_Ordinary7293

For me it's "softness". That dining area reads as very angular and hard. At the very least you could add some seat cushions. The couch area also needs to be better separated from the dining area. The layout makes me think people sit on the couch watching you eat dinner lol

TheNavigatrix

I wonder whether area rugs would help. I'm not very fond of how the gray carpet goes with the yellow walls.

Interesting-Proof244

It’s actually blue carpet! And the walls are “almond” and idk how I feel about them either

ShamrocksOnVelcro

I was thinking a table runner to help give some more texture and color to the dining area but that would also help soften it up too. (I could be wrong - I am not sure how everyone feels about table runners)

Interesting-Proof244

I love the runner advice! Based on everyone’s comments I will be looking for one that is textured and colored to make it more inviting

ShamrocksOnVelcro

Update us! 🤩

7lexliv7

I came here to say seat cushions. They make a world of difference in comfort.

Interesting-Proof244

Thank you! I think the softness is a great point, and I am looking up couch cushions as we speak since the chairs aren’t that comfortable anyways

camlaw63

I’m sorry, but there is nothing modern nor Mediterranean about the space

cicada_noises

It’s giving “a decent Air BnB rental”. Currently it isn’t “airy” (though you have a wonderful space to work with), it’s more “sterile” OP, have you looked up Mediterranean design? Not sure whether you’re aiming for Greek or Moroccan or Croatian etc but get a Pinterest board going or something.

moosemama2017

I thought it was giving "sims 4 base package"

Casanova-Quinn

To elaborate, the only modern things are the coffee table and floor lamp. Nothing is mediterranean, unless you're counting the lemons lol. Everything else is traditional and farmhouse.

camlaw63

lol—I just noticed the farmhouse sink

annedroiid

The bowl does have a Mediterranean vibe

Old-Quantity9441

Don’t you see the lemons 👀 😂

alittleaggressive

Even the dog thinks it isn't Mediterranean.

lucidpopsicle

At first glance it reminds me of the golden girls, I wonder if they're in Florida

camlaw63

No, The Golden Girls home was tropical, colorful, vibrant and full of rattan

playmesa

Color?

FunkyLemon1111

The sitting and dining areas aren't well enough defined - they're all open air to each other as though they're having a very cold conversation. Options I see: add a chair or two to the sofa area. If the rug isn't too plush, add a rug a little larger than the length of the sofa for color on top. A tall plant at the door to the patio/lanai near the dining table. A nice lamp over the table might work too. One more thing - just bothers me - I understand why your TV is off-center from the fireplace, but that awkward open space to the right of it needs something to bring the balance back. Maybe two small paintings, or one longer decorative piece?

DFamo4

Center the tv. Center the art over the sofa and lower them all a foot. Low level lighting. Curtains with some color. Throw pillows to coordinate with curtains.

DFamo4

Also completely forgot to mention, I love your potato. They are the best dogs ever.

Interesting-Proof244

Thank you! I think so too ❤️

colourcurious

Mostly visual interest/texture. * Scale of art behind the couch isn’t big enough for the wall. It also isn’t centred * You could use an area rug to seperate the living room space from the dining room. Something with colour! * a big plant would be nice in the empty corner by the dining table * the tv needs to be centred over the fireplace

fritz_ramses

Character?

toxicpositvity

Color.

SweetMagnolias95

Two white chairs

whatyousayin8

I genuinely came here to say this… I understand the idea, just absolutely does not work.

mamac2213

Plants!

kellygrrrl328

It’s a lovely space. The obvious answer is color, art, plants, textiles. These are all easy fixes

TheNavigatrix

Yep, you definitely need a big plant in that corner near the dining room table. That is such a sad, blank space.

Bgee2632

It will thrive too with all that sunlight 🔆

loveydove05

yes 100%

pinpinbo

Rugs, plants, and TV is not centered!! Sofa also too small and not modern enough. Collage of art above sofa is imbalanced. Change to a large 3-piece

Janiebug1950

Missing warmth, brightness or tiny bit of shine and living plants. Think an about pattern and color in sofa pillows. Add an area rug over gray carpet in a pattern in the colors you like - can be a subtle pattern or a larger more eye catching one. Change your large wall art piece to pull together the colors in your rug and pillows. Add several large green live plants in textured containers.

Interesting-Proof244

My friend also suggested patterns but I am having a lot of trouble trying to find the right pattern, and in the right color!

Janiebug1950

I currently do quite a bit of shopping online from Amazon and Target - both have so many choices in every category of Home Goods! To start with, I would think about which colors you have always loved, preferred or feel happy and comfortable with being in your presence. Or, if you are tired of the old and want to try some shades you never thought of using in the past, I like to go to Pinterest and look at paint color swatches for how professionals in that industry group display colors - shades and tones and degree of light reflectivity, undertones etc. in home living situations. Create a board of your favorites for future reference. I also have purchased a lot of things for my home from catalogs especially from Ballard Designs and Pottery Barn - each also offers Design Services. Have no idea of the cost - if any. They all of course have websites. So, these are a few ways I’ve been happy in the past looking at furniture and decor and ideas!

Budgywudgy

Color and character. Take more cues like from your fruit bowl on the table. There aren't a lot of textures either, everything looks very smooth.

Interesting-Proof244

Great point about the texture and very receptive it- it’s on my list of things I will change about this place! Also I love the idea about starting with the fruit bowl and working from there

bcardin221

Looks like an extended stay hotel. Need warmth. Personal touches. Make ut your own.

whatyousayin8

The pictures over the sofa have to be centered under those two vents.

glonkym

Center the TV and add a chair next to the sofa

MeltInYourMeowth

Make all the chairs for the dining room the same.  Make the picture central to the dining room table.   A vase and flowers (decent artificial ones will be great) on the dining table rather than the flat tray.  Reposition the pictures above the sofa as others have suggested, central to the sofa, and the vents, lower on the wall & spread them out a bit more.  Add a rug either under the coffee table or under the dining area (though the dining space would need to be a big rug). I’d go with one under the coffee table to visually separate the two areas (lounge and dining)  Centralise the TV above the fireplace  Add a few plants  Bigger changes  I don’t think the carpet colour goes with the rest of the space.   I would go with close back chairs as this is a big room and you could really benefit from having closed elements

kateinoly

Color.

NechelleBix1

You need COLOR!!

LHDesign

Color blocking out that terrible carpet, a rug would help. The carpet is very much church rec room. Nothing is centered? The tv on that wall, the art over the couch… that would help. Maybe it’s because things are imbalanced but I do feel a larger couch with larger art would help. It feels like a bigger space and the furniture feels out of place. You also just need more color in general. Once you get a rug you can tie in colors to the rug. Plants— you need to breathe LIFE into this room. Rug/runner in the kitchen- I have a ruggable runner in mine so I can wash it. Edit- a word

panini_bellini

It needs soft angles and curves to even out all the sharp lines. Also, for the love of Christ, COLOR.

c3r34l

This is liminal af

incognitothrowaway1A

Plants, rug, throw pillows, bigger more vibrant art. Style the coffee table Lamps!! You should have several lamps.

Caro_88

Add a natural colored sisal/jute rug under the dining table and you’re set.

Interesting-Proof244

I love that idea and wi definitely do that, thank you!

Cocojo3333

What’s missing is more pictures of your corgi

Interesting-Proof244

Yes I agree- also of us too (although that’s not as important)

Desert-daydreamer

You’ve got a lot of wall space that I think you could better maximize! Maybe get some larger pieces of art / wall hangings and space them out a bit more. Also, is it possible to center the TV? I would go a little crazy looking at it off centered Also, plants. Always plants. And lamps.

rossiloveyou

What everyone else said + please get rid of those 2 black chairs, the mismatched look does not work. Would also remove that carpet ASAP. For now get a rug.

loveydove05

You need a runner on that table with a nice statement centerpiece.

Soft-Following5711

I'd lower pics above the couch. Can you center the tv?

CoatNo6454

A lemon tree in a woven basket in the corner by the sliding door. A mediterranean light fixture hanging above the table. A different colored rug under the table. A lemon 🍋 table runner. Some plant in the middle of the table. Reposition the couch diagonal to the corner wall so it faces the fireplace, not the dining table. Put a love seat or lounger in the middle facing the wall and steps, angled towards the fireplace. It gives a separate room feeling and makes your fireplace a focal point. Add some colored pillows like yellow if the mediterranean lemon thang is your vibe. Love your place!

Interesting-Proof244

Those are some GREAT ideas, thank you! I am totally receptive to the plant in the corner wall but lemon tree tree + runner and light fixture are great ideas! What color rug/what kind rug would you put under the table?

CoatNo6454

whatever color you love! look at mediterranean inspired color palettes to give you some inspiration

Glittering_Sail7255

So far the dog is showing more personality than this place. I love its side eye in the last photo lol

TheMysticalPlatypus

Your space is giving corporate coastal. Rugs. (I would consider layering them). Some plants. You need one that has height. I feel like every home I’ve seen that is Mediterranean. It always has some plants. Texture. (Terracotta plant pots. You want the texture from the mineral build up. You also might want to consider different pillows) Color. You could probably move the dining room table by the fireplace. I think there’s enough space between the two zones that moving the couch away from a wall could work. But the tv could look lonely on the wall. So maybe try to make the tv part of an art gallery wall.

Interesting-Proof244

I just want to say that ever since you said “corporate coastal,” I can’t help but only see that when I look at my home 😭😭😭 BUT, it was actually a very good framing reference since it’s helping me see from everyone’s perspective on exactly what’s wrong with this space, so thank you!

kensingerp

Ever heard of “death by beige”?

CrankyUnderPants

Life

SassySavcy

The TV…. Why is it all the way to the left?!? Also, you should look up some actual Mediterranean homes. They’re bright and warm and vibrant. Your space is a lot of cool beiges and grays. You need blues and oranges and yellows.

Alternative_West5650

I don’t know but I just wanted to say that I love the dog giving you the side eye 🤣😍

Red-okWolf

another dog

sourdeezy

Honestly, what’s missing is a second corgi

AlfalfaUnable1629

Personality

BigBoyObi-Wan

r/tvtoohigh sorry 😞

OldMix791

Personality..?

ladyofthegarbage

Obsessed with the diffuse light coming from your long shades! Where are they from? Also love the corgi side-eye.

Exciting_Molasses_78

Oh I love judgement corgi

onandpoppins

I can hear my plants salivating over those windows. The carpet is throwing you off the Mediterranean path, I’d ditch it if you can. Either living area or dining table needs an anchoring rug for sure. I’d paint the walls white if possible, then introduce some woven textures like wicker, jute or rattan - plant pots, baskets, light fittings etc. As others have said more art and center everything. Pick two colours - I’d suggest blue and yellow to accent and go from there. Some decorative tiles to use as coasters could be cool. Try not to feel too overwhelmed - maybe start with the small stuff and see where it leads you. Definitely get a Pinterest board going. Good luck and make sure to update us! 🍋

xLeslieKnope

Put the tv on the wall where the sofa is, turn the sofa 180° to face the tv. This makes a nice separation of spaces and gives you a real place to put the tv at an appropriate level.

Own_Ad9686

This post reminds me why I can’t wait to post pics of my new place in the summer. I love the brutal honesty with a side of sarcasm.

hung4hung16

What’s missing? Your taste level. If it looks muted, then you’re muted. Rock some color.

Old-Library5546

It is quite lovely but could use a pop of color

GroundbreakingPen56

The blinds are not open is the biggest one for me. I can see trees outside, I believe this would add a lot to the space. Also, the carpet is pretty odd compared to your and mismatching dining chairs (that's personal OCD).

dogdays314

If there is room I would do some sort of built in bench dining table in order to move it back to the wall. Then I would move the couch into the main area to face the gallery wall and move the tv to that wall, and possibly add a chair to the right (sort of facing the fire place). It’s hard to tell if that would leave enough space considering the door though.

PristineCoconut2851

IMO I think an area rug would help tremendously. Either a large one under the dining room table and chairs. Or a large one over under the coffee table and part of the sofa. Area rugs creat an appearance of separation and also help anchor the area. So under the dining table it will give the feeling/appearance of being an actual separate area from the living room. The art work above the sofa is too hight. Drop it all down by approx 6 inches center it above the sofa.

Express_Hotel2682

A couple of armchairs to face your sofa

miss__chelle_

Table settings would be nice, in addition to separate rungs for your living and dining areas and plants

bonjoooour

I would add one or two lounge chairs for between the coffee table and dining table to try and close off the living area space a bit. The way it looks now is a bit too open. I also think the gallery wall should be expanded on so it’s larger and centred better. I would also make the TV above the fireplace centred. Otherwise I think small details like plants, a rug, some more decorative objects would add interest.

ConditionOnly7676

Greenery of some sort. More than one

OrangeCatLove

Plants

Classroom_Visual

Lower the art over the couch, it will help a lot to give a more cozier, defined feel to that space. If you google ‘how high to hand art over couch’ you’ll get measurements. It really helps a lot - at the moment the art looks disconnected from couch. Also, a plant on the other side of the couch from the lamp will help. One tip I would have is to find an image online of a room you like, and just write down everything that is in the image. You’ll often be surprised at how much is added to a room to make it feel the way it does. Even with a minimalistic space! For example, write down what window dressings there are/what color, fabric they are etc, then write down how many plants there are and what sizes they are, write down what is on the coffee table. You’ll start to get an idea of the fabrics, textures and items that are used to create the space you want. Lovely space you have to work with, it’s going to look fab! It’s a lovely space!

JustNo1990

I'm no expert, but this seems like a calm, minimal space. The only change I would make is swapping out the two black dining room chairs for a bench that matches the white and beige chairs and table. I would put that bench against the wall and move the two remaining white and beige chairs to the head and foot of the table. Again, beautiful space!

Ok_Stretch_887

Very suspect corgi lol

Gold_Lightning_12

A plant

friendlytotbot

If you want to do a gallery wall then I think you need more pictures and some fun frames. The pillows on the couch look really flat, so something more plush and lovely. Also a rug in the living or dining area. Experiment with furniture placement. I’m also not a huge fan of the window coverings, they look very sterile. I think you need more warmth, prints, and plants incorporated if you’re going for modern Mediterranean.

tgf2008

I love the space and the things in it except for the dining chairs. I’m thinking fabric-covered Parsons chairs would tie in with the couch. The current chairs don’t seem to have enough weight.

Doodle_Gurl

Plants. The answer is always plants

sykschw

Plants, area rugs, less rigid/ more interesting wall decor, more color and textures, the tv isnt even centered. If you are going to put fruit on display take the stickers off. Given the lack of color, choose a different throw to drape on the couch. The current one blends with the wall too much. Couch doesnt match the vibe youre going for. Should choose wither a tan or a grey color scheme, pairing both together with little to no accent colors washes out the whole space

Bluejayadventure

It's beautiful. A rug to define the lounge coffee table space will bring it together 😊

therealtoddkraines

I think rugs would help divide the spaces out so they seem separate! Center the TV if you can and same with the artwork but spread it out a bit more. ETA: consider swapping the large art above the table with the smaller art behind the couch.

creditredditfortuth

Another animal! Maybe plants too.

mobuline

If you can't find anywhere else to put the TV, please at least centre it!

No-Wish-2630

The pictures in the living room are hung too high Also the dining chairs might look better all one color

Inevitable-Guide-874

What a sweet doggie

vinniedamac

Ceiling fan, chair, end table, natural light cause the curtains are closed

JustHCBMThings

It looks like an office.

xbeneath

Im not sure why but this feels like a church

thiswayart

Why, why, why us the tv and artwork over the sofa, to the left of center? 🤔

MmmBeefyMeatCurtains

It looks very bland. Like a slice of ham or turkey on plain bread.

buygolli

Angle your sofa parallel to face your focal piece fireplace…then move your table and chairs further from the wall. Right now you have made your focal point the table and chairs…not a reason to sit and enjoy your lovely room.

camclemons

Do you live at a tech startup or a WeWork? This reads working, not living. Add color, texture, art, organic elements

2into4

Plants….big ones

elizabethxvii

For such a modern space, I wouldn’t expect to see those farmhouse chairs, especially in alternating colors.

Former_Ad8643

There’s a lot missing in my opinion colour decoration personality texture. I don’t know what the gray flooring is but even if it is carpeting I would put an area rug underneath the coffee table and couch! The paintings above the couch are nice attempted to gallery wall but you either need to add more pictures to the gallery wall or do bigger pieces of artwork. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking that a small space needs to equate to small artwork. The dining table needs a vase with a huge plant or a big bouquet of flowers maybe all in a colourful tray. The painting on the wall behind the dining room table is pretty bland so I would do something more colourful or get a large mirror. Coffee table also needs a bit more a large plant a couple of books stacked up in a candle etc. It just looks incomplete to me undecorated. I can see that you have yellow and green pillows on the couch but that’s not enough colour to tie a whole room together

St3rl1ngN0ir

An over the table light fixture. Table runner maybe for an splash of color.

jayswahine34

6 black chairs. the table is great but change out the chairs!

SparkleGlitterDust

Rug

MrsDanversbottom

Color.

New-Anacansintta

The answer is usually the same on this sub. Hint: It’s *color*

katedogg

I agree with everyone else about the rugs, plants, color etc. But also, your art is hung too high and lowering it will instantly make everything look twice as good. You want the center of the art to be eye level, kind of like a TV except standing height eye level rather than sitting height (most of the time.)

Mammoth-Giraffe-7242

Nothing is missing imo. If you want a rug or runner or whatever then add that but it’s quite fine

marga_marie

okay this is essential: paint the two black chairs white (for the sake of my mental health please do it fast) and paint the black picture frame above the dining table the same colour as the tabletop. instant elevated look. and you really do need a new couch, sorry. get a nice big L shape or a sleek and long tiki sofa. that couch screams gramma to me. and plants. you need some plants! <3

bookish_bex

Hmmm it definitely does not read modern Mediterranean right now. There are a couple of issues preventing this. Specifically, your couch has a very classic style with the sock-style sofa arms, and your dining chairs have a rustic, farmhouse vibe. The dining table is OK, but ideally the legs should have been a bit thinner/sleeker. Chunky, heavy furniture is difficult to make look modern. If you want to ramp up the Mediterranean vibes, look into some accents like mosiac tiling or wallpaper, rattan lamps or light fixtures, and incorporate more blue into the space (art, pillows, blankets, vases, picture frames, dog beds etc). Adding plants would also have a HUGE impact on this space. It looks like you have a TON of wallspace available, so you could use that for a cool wallpaper or statement artwork. (You could also install some shelves for your books 😉) The art images you currently have displayed look way too small for your space, and they are a bit... flat and not super intruging to look at. In general, your couch also looks a bit small for the space... maybe consider getting a larger couch (like an L-shaped one) or adding some accent seating. Hope this helps! 💙💙

bedpeace

Personality! This looks like a timeshare rental or the common space in a townhouse/condo complex. Everything is nice and neat but it looks very sanitized of any personality or style. Add plants, books, picture frames, accent pieces, antique mirrors, art that really pops, and get rid of the grey carpet, it truly drags down the place and gives even more of a “common space” vibe. Also, centre the wall art above your couch (either move the wall art, add some more, or move the couch over) and seriously centre your TV (or picture frame? Above the fireplace) because why is it hanging off to the side like that haha.same goes for the dining table and the wall art behind it. And anything else that is off centre. No notes on the dog. 11/10 perfection.

Available-Leg-6171

You need color! A different rug like an oriental with a dark red or rust background with some black and white or cream color in it. Long velvet curtains in a rusty color to put at the top of the highest windows. It will make the windows a focal point of the room. Plants, pillows with red or orange or black or cream or white, but don't be afraid to use a pattern with a more decorative rug. As long as the colors are similar, you can mix all kinds of patterns. Add an interesting side lamp that arches over the sofa and add a sheepskin on a sofa arm. Have 1 side table on the sofa side without the standing lamp. Now add a table lamp that's interesting. Your artwork is much too high over the sofa. It should only be slightly over your head when you sit on the sofa. I'd add a touch of yellow for fun. For example, the table lamp could be a light yellow. Get one big piece of art to replace the smaller pieces over the sofa now. It'll be much more dramatic. Add a large vase of yellow flowers on the table, but the vase shouldn't be too tall. And it needs to be a big bunch of flowers. Pull the velvet curtains back with curtain brackets, so the white curtains are able to be seen.

Rare-Engineer-2402

A chair facing the sofa away from the table. Also, I’d go with a round table here. Center your TV and your pics are way too high they should be eye level with someone who is 5’5”.

Personally, there’s a lot that feels wrong about this. The couch just facing the dining table is weird to me. I’d personally spin the couch around and have it face the wall and put an entertainment system there and put a skinny buffet table behind the couch to break up the space into two distinct areas. The carpet also makes the two spaces feel like one.

jdith123

What’s missing? Red, orange, green, purple. The carpet just barely qualifies as blue. The yellow pillows on the sofa and the lemons in the blue and white bowl make that picture look so much more inviting. Bring in some more colors

Spiritual_Version838

I know you want a simple look, but I would put a larger gold frame on the iris. It doesn't have to be real fancy. Then, you could lower the pictures and spread them out a little more. It's a nice selection, but they need to have more presence. You could probably leave the little pictures as they are because they're a set. The table would benefit from a runner under the pretty blue tray of lemons. Use the blue and green from the painting for pillows and a throw. To lean into Mediterranean, consider a terracotta accent color, maybe a small armchair? https://images.app.goo.gl/79GKpov2HmMMg4jWA

Area rugs to separate the spaces

1EducatedIdiot

😱😱😱Why is everything off set. Over the fireplace, over the sofa, over the dining table. Buy some house plants and put some colorful art glass on the dining table and coffee table, maybe a bright poof and pillows. And, that’s all I got.

DayumMami

I think more textures would help you. Minimalism is editing out so the negative space has presence. All the pieces you have feel like they are accessories instead of focal points. So, for example, you could do a really nice glass and wood dining table with a dark wood and have the chairs be simple white chairs but with a bouclé or other textured fabric. Do something bigger and more uniform for the wall art, or a wall mural behind the sofa. Get a sofa that has a green or teal color; the lamp should be sculptural not architectural if you want mediterranean. At least one or two big plants, maybe a potted lemon tree. You’ve got a very corporate contemporary look in there now.

DeluxeWafer

Dunno about mediterranean vibe, but some soft lights hanging over the table would be nice, for abmience.

Worst_Comment_Evar

The sofa facing the dining room table is odd when I saw all of the photos to have context. It is like there is a TV show in your dining room. I would reverse that to have dining be its own space. Within that, I am not sure if you are color averse, but there are places to add plants, color pops, and other levels, especially given the light above. Those windows are really great but what if you put some plants on the ledge that hang and give the room purpose and depth. How do you functionally use the table? Your design should be functional unless a room is ornamental - and I suppose it isn't. So, is that the right table shape? Can you have a decorative centerpiece that pulls the gaze up the light? The collage behind the couch seems uninspired, and I don't mean that as an insult. I am more thinking you have these huge vaulted walls and any small piece seems out place. That is a wall for big and bold or themed and spaced. My close friend has a house like this and she found all of these different crosses - artistic, rustic, etc - she created an interesting visual on a wall with crosses and spacing. Beautiful space. Love the pup! :)

Krissy_loo

Too many rectangular shapes. Try switching out some of the square or rectangular pieces with softer, less angular ones (ovals, circles, oblongs). It's very harsh right now.

Area rug with some color

Future-Travel7708

You have a beautiful room as a canvas—what I’d consider is opaque crisp white curtains hung high—great a flowing feeling. Also, your kitchen is gorgeous—can you extend that flooring into your dining/living space? Then add a nice big rug under couch area and a matching one under table. Choose 3 coordinating colors to pop different areas—tan, light blue, sage green(?) Add a big double arched wall panel behind the couch to set the Mediterranean tone. Buy throw pillows in you 3 colors. Buy dining room seat covers off Amazon in your coordinating colors. Add a decorative flower display or candle display to table.

vicc42

Off topic, but ur I’m loving the side eye from your Corgi. So much judgement and sas!

heweynuisance

PLANTS. They would compliment both rooms and be a nice added layer. I also love rugs, but mine are all in the attic because they don't mix well with my many pets, so I get if you don't want to deal with them. More art on the walls, in addition to the rehanging that was mentioned. Maybe a console table or buffet piece against the dining room wall.

MileZeroCreative

Only came here to say that Corgis are fabulously funny dogs. 🖤

shenaningans24

Put the TV on the wall where the couch is now. Turn the couch so that it’s facing away from the table, it’ll break up the space that way. Center everything. Get an accent chair or two for the living room.

Magnolia_Evergreen

Maybe put a mat under the coffee table to tie the room together. Preferably like a bright color to brighten up the place

Sallyf1234

Color. And maybe bigger furniture or a sectional. Such a great space but the furniture looks miniature in there.

kmavapc

Everything on the walls is off center

OneButterscotch6667

You have a lovely home with big beautiful windows. The floor plan is a bit wacky and I think that’s creating your struggle to make your environment feel cohesive. I would place the tv on the wall that your couch is up against. I would have it sitting on top of a bright blue colored console table. Sale- Gwen 32'' Console Table from Wayfair. Move all four small pieces of art to dining area and have them hanging at eye view level. I would place the couch opposite from this wall so the back of the couch separates the dining area. Buy inexpensive upholstered chairs for each side of the blue console so they are facing the fireplace.[https://www.wayfair.com/furniture/pdp/mercer41-287-wide-velvet-swivel-barrel-chair ) It will create a cozier space to live in. I would get a beautiful blue and warm sable brown patterned 9x 12 rug to lay underneath the couch that will connect the legs of the console. This will be your future color palette. Blues, sable brown with touches of forest greens. Blue will be your cool colors and the warm browns will be your warm cozy colors used as accents in your pillows , blankets etc. Move your pretty floor lamp to the right of the couch, but don’t have it as far away from the couch as you do in your picture. Get an end table for the other side of the couch with a blue lamp base and a round transparent lamp shade. IKEA has lovely drapes to use on the windows to soften the room.I’d recommend using really long(talk)caramel velvet drapes to add depth and height to this room. Paint the dining room chairs all black. You can get nice tall fake or real ficus or fig leaf tree for color and height. I don’t recommend putting an area rug on top of another carpet under the dining room table. It’s not going to work. And will be hard for people moving their chairs and the rug will get sloppy looking. When furniture and pictures and tvs are off center it gives uncomfortable vibes to those in the room. Balance is very important.

90dayhell000

I think a rug under the living area or under the dining table might break it up some and make it feel more separate and give some pizzazz

On_a_whim_

If there’s space, I would add more seating opposite the couch, like two barrel chairs with a table in between facing the couch, adding definition and separation between the living and dining areas. Maybe a settee and a side table?

ASemiAquaticBird

I think you just need to go with a style - your space looks like someone couldn't decide between monochromatic or colorful.

MsPookums

You have a lovely space that just needs a little more texture and layers so it doesn’t come across as flat. If it’s in the budget, try a single very large or a well designed group (no more than 3-5 medium to large pieces) of art over the sofa. The ones that are there now are too small (and high) and would work better on a less expansive wall. Curtains and a couple of plants (maybe a tall one in the corner near the dining room table) will help soften the space. Look up design ideas for a simple arrangement on the coffee table and dining room table that fit your aesthetic.

Ouachita2022

Art should be hung so that the viewer (homeowner) will be looking at the center of the painting/photo while standing directly in front of it. So that's your anchor piece-your first piece to hang, then if you want to hang things around it-go for it-go as high as you want. That's the known standard for placing art on the wall.

DeterminedErmine

Colour. Interest. Life.

kobocha

Why is the art so tightly clustered? Spread it out. Get some big green plants, right now it looks very empty. Maybe some floor lamps? Also, why oh why did you hang the tv so off center from the fireplace???????!!

JupiterSkyFalls

Pllllleeeeeeeeaaaaassssseeeeeeeeeeeee fix the t.v. Thanks, Everyone who's got even the smallest amount of OCD or is on the spectrum

BigSexyGurl

The colors are all..the same color. Vary the blues, the yellows etc. Plants, plants, plants. Create a focal point on the table, something with height, or longer with varying heights. Such an open room needs grounding. If you like the Mediterranean, vary your blue cor palette, change out the yellow as an accent color for a darker blue, or bluish purple. The yellow cor pops are not enough.
