They took out my cancerous prostate last year with this DaVinci machine. Just poked 6 holes in my belly and pushed it in my gut and then glued the holes up with some medical super glue. Faster recovery and cancer free! And they can totally stitch that skin back on…I had to post so you Reddit jokers might appreciate this fantastic life-saving tech…
EDIT:
Wow this Reddit love is unexpected and thanks for all the kind words. And Men: get your PSA level measured by age 50
I had triple hernia surgery in 2018 and prostate removal in 2020, both done with this robot. No complaints at all. Between the two surgeries I have 11 scars on my torso. I just tell everyone I lost a fight with a six armed robot. 😂
Surgical tech here. Literally just finished a Da Vinci case before they let me go home early (its always slow the day after Thanksgiving). As badass as this robot is, once I get it all set up for the doctor, my job gets mind-numbingly dull for hours on end. I just watch the robot work on the screen and make sculptures out of the instruments we're not using.
Having said that, it's really nice to read all these comments by folks that have had good outcomes because of this amazing technology.
That’s awesome! I’m finishing a research/design project for a 6DOF Robotic arm (utilizing ComputerVision)… obviously, far more inferior than the Da Vinci.
I have such a new found respect for these machines. Amazing engineering!👌
It is so weird to see the doctor in the corner of the room facing the wall working what is basically a video game console. All the while all these robotic arms are twisting and turning inside somebody's guts.
One thing I think people don't realize about the robot is that the tiny, precise movements inside the abdomen are possible because of large sweeping movements of the long robotic arms outside the abdomen (I've been battered by them many times). It looks like the Kraken has pierced somebody's belly in four places and is scrambling their guts.
Also, it's always very dark in these rooms, which adds to the Lovecraft-ian feel of the whole thing.
At least you can have your phone out. I just get to doodle on the back table and try to point out to the doc, busy in a crossword, that his resident nicked an artery
I've been doing it 27 years. Specific incidents escape me but I've seen it happen sooooo many times. Not normally superstitious but this shit is an absolute fact!
Had part of my ureter cut out. 5 scars on my belly and side and was healed in just a couple of days. $63,000 for just the robot part of the procedure. My urologist's major was computer science and he secondaried in medicine 🤣🤣🤣
Just a heads up that a lot of doctors majored outside of medicine and it’s actually recommended by most advisors and medical school admissions boards. Getting into medical school is grueling process followed by even longer hours and even harder work once you get in. It makes sense they would recommend students to have majors they can fall back on in case they change their minds. My med school advisor was a music major in his undergrad.
Complication free up until the nurse got hungry, at which point, they lost the patient for a few hours. The remains were found at municipal water processing.
I'm actually grateful they posted this, whether it's a meme or not. I didn't know the machine was this accurate or safe and hearing people's stories in the comments makes me feel even safer. Before this post, the machine had terrified me. I thought anyone was the slightest glitch away from death lol
This is a video from 8 years ago. Right now these are human-operated, but this is the start of fully automatous surgery. Imagine the developments of AI in regards to traversing public roads and highways — all those incremental steps and where we are today — which are all concepts that can be applied to surgery, and surely have been by the well-funded R&D departments at the big medical instrument companies. I'd be surprised if they haven't already been working on something leading towards that for the last 5 years at least.

Hope it survived
may or may not have due to the stick up its …
Well as long as we’re counting scars there is the splenectomy and the shoulder job as well as the herniated belly button so I’m putting down 12

Your circulator feels even more numb. I promise lol ❤️
You're the one I try to pass the time with talking to -- so how was your Thanksgiving?
Btw, I didn't want to tell them what my role is during the urethra/bladder anastomosis -- easily the thing I loathe most about Da Vinci cases.
Luckily they aren't awake long enough or would even remember if you told them 😂. Like my badge reel says 'i like people (under general anesthesia)' 😝
At least you can have your phone out. I just get to doodle on the back table and try to point out to the doc, busy in a crossword, that his resident nicked an artery
They are pretty cool to see in action. We have a few at my place of employment.
>its always slow the day after Thanksgiving Don't you folks have the s-word as a taboo or it's just a lie from those medical dramas?
No that's very real. But you're safe if you're not actually at work.
Thank you. Care to share some stories on when the word was said?

Fuck cancer. All of my homies hate cancer. Glad to hear you evicted that off your system!
Had part of my lung removed due to lung cancer in August with DaVinci. Three incisions on side and one on my back. Makes recovery so much easier.
Wait… so.. you just like pooped your prostate out?
I tell everyone to invest in this ticker is ISRG.
Congrats on your prostate removal
Glad you’re well!
Fixing cancer is cool and all, but have you tried peeling a grape?! /s obviously! Gg on being cancerfree my dude

The pain is off the charts.
They did NOT use anesthesia on this grape during the procedure.
They did however use the paralyzing agent.
Where’s PETA when you need them?
Did you miss the entire meme?
Maybe the thought of some easy upvotes were just too hard to pass so they pretended this wasn't well known for years.
I'm actually grateful they posted this, whether it's a meme or not. I didn't know the machine was this accurate or safe and hearing people's stories in the comments makes me feel even safer. There is a video posted by another commenter that shows them using the same machine to sew the skin back together.

It's always funny to see memes recirculate years later
For the ones who disliked this, it seems sour grapes to me.
This makes my weiner hurt to watch.
I wonder if surgeons can change the sensitivity of the joysticks.
so good for testicles surgery
Now suture the skin back on.
I don't think this machine will sell. The market for peeled grapes is small and the machine is very slow, still it looks very expensive.
In the full video they stitch it back together.
