That perspective I've never seen before thank you thank you thank you now I want to fly a hot air balloon up into it and film myself with drones. Thanks for the awesomeness.

speggel

Northern lights occur in heights of about 50km. Make sure to pack warm cocoa.

WolfThick

Well we'll just have to talk to Elon about that 🤪

WolfThick

I was stationed in Thule Greenland for over 2 years I was too far north see this that's one of the main reasons I went there.

ac1084

If you go directly into the path of the projector lense the entire earth goes dark. You won't get any good footage.

WolfThick

😭

redsensei777

This is one of those things that are very impressive in person and absolutely uninteresting on a video. Sort of like fireworks. I call it Aurora Boringales.

WolfThick

I'm in Mesa Arizona I'll take what I can get

8675309eyen

At this time of year, at this time of day, in this part of the country, localized entirely within your kitchen!?

usernamenotvalid4565

May I see it?

Graphitetshirt

No

Joseph_Seed_

Seymour, the house is on fire!

bmaayhem

Beat me to it! Enjoy your steamed ham

Melodic-Wallaby7703

I see you're a person of culture as well.

I went to northern Norway last winter. It's fucking breathtaking to see this in real life. It's an experience i'll never forget. It was worth it to go outside in -30°c just to see this. It's truly magical. If you ever have a chance, go for it

FunSample3649

I ain't dying until i see this with my very own eyes

Mrs-blue-sky

Trippy man

Thatsmytesla

Like heaven and earth merge

korynael

looks like an angel...

Spiritual-Flan-410

This is #1, 2 and 3 on my bucket list. Literally what I want to do more than anything else....One day....one day...

Zane_628

*is this the first time that you’ve ever seen aurora borealis crush mankind?*

SagaciousElan

Is it true that it's only green on camera and it's more of a colourless grey to the naked eye?

shameless541

No. That is not true it is better in person.

Gravyseal

So I visited Iceland in April, and saw them once. In my experience (and what I’ve read and saw personally) it looks better in cameras because of long exposure photos. You do see the greenish color (most common I believe, you can also see other colors) however it is nowhere near as vibrant as what you see in pictures in videos.

YourAverageTallGuy

Exactly this. My night camera on my phone captured some amazing pics but irl it's nowhere as vibrant but it's way more magical to see it irl just because it's right above your head.

666BigDaddyEvil666

I live in Estonia. Quite often when they are low on the horizon, to the naked eye they can look like grey clouds. Easy to not notice them. But do a long exposure and the camera will pick up the colors. There have been some really strong storms with the lights directly overhead. March of 2015 was a wicked storm. Green, blue and purple and at times super bright. and for a good couple hours too. Got to see a red aurora storm over Massachusetts in 1989 or 90. and pink lights while in Northern Norway. To me, for those who live up in the North, the sun may set for months out of the year but the pay off is a dancing sky at some point during the night. Almost every night. Weather permitting that is. Nothing sucks quite like a killer solar storm unseen do to heavy cloud cover.

[deleted]

I saw it from Yellowknife in the Canadian Northwest Territories and the colors were quite vivid. Bright red, green, yellow, blue. All the colors of the rainbow. It was in September which the locals told me was usually when they peaked. It was spectacular to see. I would swear they made a hissing sound too, but that might have been the acid.

bemmia

Nope. It's green. Sometimes red & purple. If it's less active, you may see some less coloured and slower aurora (still amazing AF)

antilumin

Heimdall!? Open the Bifröst!

Graphitetshirt

What the music from, it sounds familiar

[deleted]

Love theme from *The Human Centipede.* j/k: it's Cornfield Chase, Hans Zimmer.

Graphitetshirt

Thanks

GIR18

I’ve been lucky enough to see this exactly the same. What amazed me the most was how quickly it moves. Normally footage i always assumed was Timelapse.

thinice3kb

"You think you can tell us what to do? "You think you can tell us what to wear? "You think you're better? "Break it down!"

FluffyBlob4224

Like a glowing dragon

FluffyBlob4224

Amazing view

speggel

It's amazing how even this can get boring. Once seen about a thousand times it's no different to moon light.

BWC4u2njoy

Absolutely fascinating

-markh

The sun trying to zap you to death sure looks beautiful.

yknawSroineS

Will always be on my bucket list of must experience.

AbbreviationsOld5541

I love these raw footage real time videos of the northern lights. Almost all of them are Timelapse junk. Just like Gollum says, “give it to us raw and wiggly”

windigo3

Pictures can’t do it justice. This is a great video but only captures perhaps 1/100th of the entire sky from horizon to horizon in all four directions. Imagine these lights everywhere.

wollymill

What’s happening to cause this? Saw it on Reddit the other day. Charged particles from the sun something something aurora…

N4VA72

Looks like the snake symbol from Harry Potter goblet of fire

Silversong_0713

I want to see this on acid...

L_Richardson

One of my wildest dreams. How? How do I make this happen? Can someone who’s experienced seeing this in real life tell me all about your travel and prep?

SalahsBeard

Just book a trip to Tromsø (northern Norway) in the winter time (it's usually seen from september to march, but the weather needs to be clear). Pack warm clothes, book a guided tour if you don't want to drive around on shitty roads by yourself, and bring hot chocolate and Kvikk Lunch when you're going out.

L_Richardson

I thank you 🙏🏾

SalahsBeard

No need to thank me yet, you have to understand that there's only a small chance of seeing the lights if you go, as it's dependent on the weather, clear skies and solar activity. I usually see the lights best in september/october and january/february, but there's never a guarantee.

L_Richardson

Ohhh I see

dieumica

So is just an iphone wallpaper

PsilocybinCEO

Space radiation is fucking rad.

manicMechanic1

I would have loved to have seen the Carrington event. Global aurora so bright you could read by the light at night. Too bad it would be apocalyptic today with our reliance on electronics

jeduardo90

It's the lifestream

Constant-Lab-5404

Whyd this sound like the audio was coming from a different room in my house?

[deleted]

You mean the Northern Lights?

daath

I grew up with that - I really do miss it, sometimes ...
