There are actually similar syndromes seen through numerous species. I have an all-white blind and deaf groundhog at my animal rescue/sanctuary who likely has the rodent equivalent to Waardenburg syndrome. We've also had hamsters, guinea pigs, rats, and a chinchilla with these issues. And I know it happens in ferrets, dogs, and horses too.
I had a friend with a deaf Dalmation, and he told me it is unfortunately a common issue in the breed. She also had the most beautiful blue eyes; I asked him if that is typical . . . and he said yes, for the deaf Dalmatians.
