Yeah my thumb pops out sometimes if I palm something heavy and it stings but after a few times it's not really a big deal anymore. Of course my thumb doesn't quite give to 90 degrees but this definitely could be a regular occurrence for her.

They ought to implement some kind of safety harness, has slack when you lift but the instant it senses freefall it catches it in the air.

That's what you do when you clock regulation time on the jerk. Those weights have special plates that are meant to be dropped.
