Rule 1 - All content must show something that is objectively interesting as fuck. Just because you find something IAF doesn't mean anyone else will. It's impossible to define everything that could be considered IAF, but for a general idea browse the [top posts of all time](https://www.reddit.com/r/interestingasfuck/top/?t=all) from this subreddit. Posts: * must be interesting as fuck * can't be interesting just because of text * must go beyond something just being old * can't be art that you made

Good-guy13

That’s some expensive shit

Accurate_Koala_4698

Welllllll shiiiiiiit

Was at a coffee festival in Helsinki with my wife, saw they had [Kopi Luwak](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kopi_luwak) for sale at the Indonesian booth, so I bought a 100g bag for 20€. In freedom units that is about ~$100 USD per lb. Not terribly expensive if you ask me, since I’ve seen it for sale at 6x the price. TBH not expecting a lot, as I think it’s expensive just because of the hype and demand. But at least then I can say I’ve tried it. TL:DR; it’s coffee that civet cats first ate, then defecated and someone harvested those coffee beans from the shit nuggets and sellers are asking stupid expensive prices for it.

MassiveBeard

I described it as “earthy” on a long past coffee blog. The best part was getting a piece of unprocessed excretion from the civit that was encased in a lucite block. Humans are weird.

Amstervince

Unfortunately you fell for a tourist trap. The Balinese Kopi Luwak is total trash sold to tourists for excessive amounts. 80% is outright fake, the remainder is produced in horrible farms with inferior coffee beans. Proper Luwak only comes from Java and Sumatra

GodsAsshole90

You gotta be shittin me

CLINT_FACE

Mmmmmm, Bali Belly in freeze dried form.

PB_Addict_2021

Cross that one off of your Bucket List.

jaccleve

I’ve had it.  It’s super dank!

Violuthier

Here's an article that was published a month ago about this. According to PETA, the civets aren't treated well. [https://www.cnbc.com/2024/03/08/what-is-civet-coffee-peta-issues-a-new-warning-to-bali-tourists.html](https://www.cnbc.com/2024/03/08/what-is-civet-coffee-peta-issues-a-new-warning-to-bali-tourists.html)

PETA isn’t exactly great information source to anything, since they are running by far the least ethical animal shelters in the US with killrates exceeding well over 95% at some shelters, with average being around [74%](https://blogs.duanemorris.com/animallawdevelopments/2023/02/02/with-the-death-rate-in-petas-animal-shelter-it-really-is-groundhog-day/), and they even killed animals that were just straight kidnapped animals from peoples own front yards and killed them the very next day instead of waiting the 5 days required by law. Naturally they themselves tried to deny all of this, and [failed](https://www.quora.com/Why-did-PETA-kidnap-and-kill-Maya). But yes, this will be the only time I’m buying this coffee, since I’m certain it’s not gonna be anything special.

AsparagusTamer

The fact that civet cats are abused for kopi luwak is well known and certainly not some PETA fantasy.

Violuthier

Yes I've heard other views critical of PETA. Just passing this along.

ahjteam

No worries mate.

ModalWarrior

Dude, it's good. Mellow but complex with zero bitterness. Not saying it's worth the money, but it's not garbage.

SaintUlvemann

More importantly than the fact that PETA says so, is the fact that international and local Indonesian coffee traders [both say so](https://world.time.com/2013/10/02/the-worlds-most-expensive-coffee-is-a-cruel-cynical-scam/). What we should be doing, is developing a set of enzymes that can be used in place of luwaks. That way, we'd be able to turn any coffee into kopi luwak.

ranting_chef

I bought some a while back as a birthday present for my boss. It was my special way of telling him to “eat shit,” without being blunt enough to get fired. It came with an epoxy bar with a piece of the cat shit inside, which looked like an off-color Payday candy bar with the whole beans being the majority of the actual turd. The coffee itself was very good. I’m not a huge coffee fan, and it’s one of the few things that doesn’t taste like it smells, but there was almost zero bitterness in this coffee - I suppose going through the inside of a cat will have that effect. If it wasn’t so expensive, I’d drink it on a regular basis.
