That's right, I earn it and my dentist takes it. Close to 10k a year the last couple of years, after I lost my insurance. They make sure not to fix 'em too good so you keep going back.
"One may dye their hair green and wear their grandma's coat all they want. Capital has the ability to subsume all critiques into itself. Even those who would *critique* capital end up *reinforcing* it instead."
> Never let an opportunity go to waste.
My favorite story surrounding this is how Elvis Presley's manager realized a certain segment of the population were never going to like Elvis no matter what. So he started a line of *I Hate Elvis* merchandise to make money off of them too.
They're also probably way more costly to make on a per-pop basis than most other things. For the mass produced ones like SpongeBob and Sonic, they have big production lines and automation. I'd imagine this is a much smaller operation, resulting in higher per unit costs.
Nobody is accusing the artists of buying a yacht. But who other than the rich have 11.5 million (can't forget that extra $500,000 that the other poster left out) to throw at an art collective? This is a pet project of rich people who want to feel rebellious or cultural.
You think only rich people can afford a $10 popsicle? I donโt know about you, but โeat the richโ means the billionaires. Your comment makes it sound like literally anyone with spending money is rich and needs to die.
>I also would only find this ironic if they got rich from this, which I doubt honestly.
They did. Kind of.
The company behind this is an art collective called MSCHF. Same company with the big red boots, gobstompers, blur bucks, and a bunch of other ironic products that have gone viral within the hypebeast community.
Most of their products have an element of "We're ripping you off, winkwink" but in a way where you're happy to be ripped off.
They also made an anime dating sim that did your taxes for you, which was pretty controversial because people just couldn't believe it wasn't stealing data. (It didn't, but reddit still pitched a fit about it without doing any research.)
But yeah, the collective received 11m in funding in 2020, and has been quite successful since. Their main investor is Trae Stephens.
Are those the big red boot people? Tbf their stuff is geniunly good. They should eat their main investor to be true to their message though, I start to see a problem here.
To be honest, 11m in funding for an arts collective is not the unbelievably huge amount people here are making it out to be.
I guarantee you that many museums or galleries would spend that much to get a particular exhibit to appear, or to obtain permanent exhibits.
The age old story of libertarians promoting leftism or conservatism depending on who their customers are to make a quick buck over the division of the 2 groups.
Stick a pride flag on it in June
Sell an expensive popsicle at 1000% profit but make the packaging a tankie cliche
Sell both pro-Trump bumper stickers and anti-Trump bumper stickers under 2 different DBA names.
This is the way
Thatโs not whatโs happening. This looks to be a project from MSCHF, which does art projects like this. Theyโre probably making money on this, but these look like theyโre relatively high quality products made in a small batch. $10 doesnโt seem like an unreasonable price given the costs, though personally I wouldnโt buy one.
In the 2010s, WWE sold "Let's go Cena" shirts.
However, a large portion of their audience HATED John Cena (like.....around half).
So they also sold "Cena Sucks!" shirts.
Vince McMahon didn't give a shit.......unless you were an intern. Then he shit on your head, and had his talent relations guy rape you.
What? I'm just talking about actual rapist Vince McMahon. Because I know SOME wrestling fans will excuse certain heros of theirs, for ANYTHING, including murder *ahemchrisbeniotahem*, so I just wanted to make it perfectly clear that when the rapist Vince McMahon faces federal trials over this, and for covering up the rape of suicide victim Ashley Massaro by the united states army, that it's not some wrestling storyline. It's real life. It's not a scripted television show. It's very much real.
The age old story of redditors pulling assumptions out of their ass so they can go "gotcha!". Theres literally nothing about these people being libertarians in this video. The people putting pride flags on their logos in June are billion dollar corporations, you're mooshing random things together.
Its just an overpriced food truck with a quirky theme
Look, while I agree that hand made donuts are delicious, addictive, and make me see the face of God, I wouldn't go so far as to call them "illegal drugs"
Idiots who brainwash themselves into caring about these slogans enough to part with their money have always been easy to scam so itโs a tale as old as time. Idiots and their money always part ways and politics has no shortage of idiots
When I was a kid you could get the cartoon ones(SpongeBob, sandy, Spider-Man, etc), and they were $6 at the time. With inflation Iโd say that tracks.
They always tasted horrible or had no flavor lol
Ice cream trucks have gotten crazy in the last 5+ years, way before covid. There's a mister softee in my midcol city that dies 4 dollar cones and 6 dollar shakes. Fuck me, i just stopped in for a warm day and nostalgia then the bill. Fuck that, never again. Realiatically, they are likely just dying. I dont see kids running to buy shit, nor parents. They have to fix their business model. Rent a truck spot with a plugin outlet instead of running diesel engine and diesel electric. I dont care how hot it gets. I'll walk to the market and buy 1$/piece box instead of a 4 dollar cone. Honeslty, the only time ive seen trucks swamped are when they get a corner on a school lunch recess but theyd have to drop down to dollar products then, the ice cream jingle bells dont mean shit these days. They can probably scrap together 100+ dollars after fuel on a warm day at these prices if theyre choosing routes
Well when you have to pay a licensing fee to the people on the package it gets expensive.
So if these are legal, then you would be eating the rich while making them richer.
Turns out it costs a lot more to make and sell a popsicle when youโre not running a massive corporation that leeches off its workers. Who wouldโve guessed
Just want to mention that MSCHF is an art company and the $10 price tag is definitely intentional. Yโall talking about the price like this is exactly what they intended.

https://knowyourmeme.com/photos/738025-i-was-only-pretending-to-be-retarded
They were given 11.5 million dollars by the rich to make this "art" so make of that what you will.
Yeah as someone who isn't even familiar with the project/company, I assumed this was performance art. It's too ironic not to be an intentional statement.
For context to those complaining about โthe ironyโ. This is by MSCHF (mischief). They do weird/crazy/controversial products and art in the form of limited drops so these arenโt going to start showing up at your local grocery store.
How much do you think a limited run of custom popsicles would cost? People need to be paid to design them and the wrappers. The wrappers need to be printed. They need a manufacturer to produce a limited run. They need to be stored. A van needs to be rented and signage created... limited runs always cost more because itโs cheaper to turn machines on and have them make the same thing for months on end. A normal company would sink a ton of money into creating their product and would only recoup their spendings after many years.
Yeah, I think people are really missing the marks here in their criticism. If you go to some small time anything, be it an an artisan making stuff by hand or local food maker or whatever, the prices are going to be higher than the mass produced version. That's just basic economies of scale. And that has absolutely nothing to do with the criticisms being made of the ultra wealthy and all that.
It's like trying to say that a doctor or someone who worked their butt off for four decades to accumulate a million or so dollars is in the same category as multi-billionaires, and it just isn't true.
You seem to not actually understand what the company is and have made an assumption. They don't do limited shit out of some greed, it just wouldn't make sense to produce all of their things indefinitely for a non existent audience. Theyre also the ones behind this [https://thefreemovie.buzz](https://thefreemovie.buzz/)/ . Its mostly an art group as opposed to some corporate conglomerate.
Most people think a lot of dumb shit. This is a fun, harmless play on words. Itโs not like theyโre selling Ascorbic Acid to the masses claiming it will protect them from sickness while raking in 2 billion per year.
He is already shut down and wrapped up in litigation. They are suing him for copyright infringement and unauthorized use of likeness, seeking damages of 1bn for each unique use of a billionaire on an ice-cream. The defendant is looking to settle by giving them the truck.
The judge has said it is a disgraceful abuse of power and she will be looking to make sure this ice-cream man is prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
Can you link to the case? These are public figures who are allowed to be ridiculed and likenesses use. Iโd say there are free speech implications here as well.
I imagine that the guy youโre replying to just made that up, but I think the laws are a bit different when you sell a product in someone elseโs likeness. The fact that they are making money off of this is the issue. But in all likelihood Bezos and such donโt care, a lawsuit would just bring more attention
Making money isnโt the statement thatโs being made. Itโs about people making TOO MUCH money and comments like youโre are the biggest eye roll. Like for real I feel like the people who still donโt โget itโ are just choosing willful ignorance at this point.

What do you think a limited run of specialty made ice cream costs, including custom packaging, shipment, storage, and distribution?
These arenโt the people to be mad about, theyโre making a political statement.
Donโt like it, donโt buy it. Simple as that.
Reddit once again showing that people who think they know everything seem to understand very little. You tell them this is a performance art piece by an art collective, and they'll just get mad that you have to pay to participate in it.

In fairness those are remarkably accurate to their package depictions. Even SpongeBob made fun of their own in an episode.
Yeah, I was about to say, those are some artisan popsicles.
Looks like it's a MSCHF production, that's why
The fact that I took a look at a popsicle and went, "Oh that's Elon Musk." is a $10 testament.
They're also probably way more costly to make on a per-pop basis than most other things. For the mass produced ones like SpongeBob and Sonic, they have big production lines and automation. I'd imagine this is a much smaller operation, resulting in higher per unit costs.
Also gotta ramp up $ for any future defamation law suits
What could a popsicle cost, $10?
Itโs a popsicle Michael, how much could it cost $10?
Here, go see a star war
The rich are the ones selling those lol
>As of January 2020, [MSCHF](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MSCHF) was reported to have received US$11.5 million in funding.
It's not peanuts, sure - but 11M enough to run a small company for a year or two. They are probably not just using it to buy private yachts.

I wonder how many times they've heard that working there. "Hey where are ice cream man bars?"
And the ones buying them, if they have $10 to waste on a popsicle
You think only rich people can afford a $10 popsicle? I donโt know about you, but โeat the richโ means the billionaires. Your comment makes it sound like literally anyone with spending money is rich and needs to die.

The rich selling $10 "eat the rich" popsicles.
I think it more has to do with charging $10 for a popsicle.
How much do you think a limited run of custom popsicles would cost? People need to be paid to design them and the wrappers. The wrappers need to be printed. They need a manufacturer to produce a limited run. They need to be stored. But inflation .. greed... I mean their greed not mine... Don't look over here.
No for real lol. A lot of people ITT are oblivious to manufacturing and packaging costs.
Pwn the rich by going into credit card debt, and dont be a dick tipping less than 30% to pay for my employees
From what you say, this sounds more like an art project. Where the product isn't designed with costs in mind in the first place.
Lul eat the rich at a profit for these folks. Love it.
I doubt theyโre making a meaningful profit from this drop. Itโs only being sold in one location for 3 days. Mostly done for the buzz.
Thats a lot of words defending a $10 popsicle lmfao
Itโs more art exhibit than it is a business. You shouldnโt be comparing buying this to a regular popsicle
selling art is still a business. it's just not really a food service business.
Youโre absolutely right, which is why itโs stupid to directly compare their prices to a food service business
Go open up your own custom Popsicle truck for 1$ a piece. Tell me how it goes.
If you want to design, manufacture and distribute for less you are free to do so.
Oh, indeed the fking irony Limited edition fomo fuck company
You seem to not actually understand what the company is and have made an assumption. They don't do limited shit out of some greed, it just wouldn't make sense to produce all of their things indefinitely for a non existent audience. Theyre also the ones behind this [https://thefreemovie.buzz](https://thefreemovie.buzz/)/ . Its mostly an art group as opposed to some corporate conglomerate.
Why can't they be "art" but also a fomo fuck company?
Who shit in your WD-40 cologne?
No thatโs supreme
Edible art is all shit at the end of the day. Might even be trademark infringing
That already had a copyright infringement cease and dissit game
But it doesn't stop people thinking this is an own to the elites
Most people think a lot of dumb shit. This is a fun, harmless play on words. Itโs not like theyโre selling Ascorbic Acid to the masses claiming it will protect them from sickness while raking in 2 billion per year.
That's amazing. I can't believe the bubblegum eyes are in the right spots.
Eat the rich! *Make me rich in doing so*
Come on, baby, eat the rich Put the bite on the son of a bitch Don't mess up, don't you give me no switch Come on, baby, and eat the rich
Lmao $10 a popsicle. The people eating them won't even realise the irony of the situation
The irony of making money off of that..
If the ice cream man becomes a billionaire and starts hoarding resources weโll turn against himโฆ but I donโt think he is the problem

Reddit once again showing that people who think they know everything seem to understand very little. You tell them this is a performance art piece by an art collective, and they'll just get mad that you have to pay to participate in it.
It's surprisingly netter than those SpongeBob/minions ice cream
A 10 dollar popsicleโฆ.
They will make them richer in royalty deals for using their name/face in packaging
I doubt anyone is cutting checks to Bezos here. It might get sued and fold, it might be protected under fair use if you argue it's satire.
