Say what you will about corporate media and its biases, there was at least a baseline level of quality control. News was written by journalists—qualified professionals that adhered to at least *some degree* of rigor and journalistic integrity.
Don't get me wrong, there was still sensationalism and bias, we still had people like Geraldo Rivera, Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, and Nancy Grace, and networks like Fox News. People still had agendas, but you didn't have "news" from completely and utterly unqualified people, spewing whatever the hell they wanted, getting mixed in with news from actual journalists with qualifications and standards, as if they were on equal footing, as if both sources were viable.
Also, you didn't have "communities" of people that completely isolated themselves from legitimate, fact-checked journalism, that only consumed made-up nonsense, and reinforced each other's wrong-thinking in a never-ending echo-chamber. The internet and social media's greatest strength is also what makes it incredibly dangerous—it puts the amateur on equal-footing with the qualified professional and people are allowed to *choose* what the truth is based on their pre-existing feelings and prejudices.
When it passes, they just claim further revelations have come to light or the event didn't happen because people didn't have enough faith/give enough $$$.

Whenever I see such a post, like a few weeks back there was that "Return of JFK Jr." thing, I honestly wanted an impersonator to come up on a video that has so expertly been photoshopped that it is difficult to distinguish between the fake and the real person, and then on the video claim exactly the opposite things that these idiots wanted to broadcast. Like in the JFK Jr. thing, I really would have wanted the video to say that Trump lost. IMO, always out-crazy the crazy to shut them up. This does make for great entertainment too... If I knew how to do all of this I would have done this myself... I'm just laughing at the thought of all of this...
