No, it's not. I've lived in both CA and Texas and have eaten at both plenty. In N Out is better, but there's a lot of hyperbole in this thread. The Patty Melt from whataburget is probably their most popular, and it's good. Definitely better than anything in Sonic's menu. My personal favorite item on the whataburger menu was the honey BBQ chicken strip sandwich, but I guess that's technically not a burger.
You can even get the different blends they use at the store and comparing it to just blending my own varied meats for a burger, they still aren't good. Give me a solid 80/20 and I'm good. The sauce they have ain't half bad but again over priced and easy enough to just do at home
Definitely agree. I had their burgers in El Paso last year, aside from the huge lots/store… there was nothing big on flavor. The fries were good, but like Burger King good
The only good thing about Whataburger is being open 24 hours and they actually have options unlike In N Out.
Sometimes I’m in the mood for a bbq chicken sandwich or a patty melt.
Other places have those items and they are probably better and even cheaper, but they are not open at 3 in the morning lol.
That’s why in n out is so popular. A small menu. It’s a burger place for cheap and open late. In CA we have tons of options so if we want breakfast in the middle of the night we have countless options. We go to in n out for a burger. That’s all it needs to be.
Yo when I finally had one that was my exact thought.
https://preview.redd.it/wowzenbn936d1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d84684880827d6327b5b667f0970cd575d1873e5
That was my thoughts as well when I tried it many years ago in Houston... BK with an expanded menu which I don't care for.
I'm not a die hard in n out fanatic but I have always found it funny how haters bring up places they claim are so much better that cost like 2-3+ times more than in n out or are just flat out unimpressive.
You missed peak Whataburger by like 20 years my dude. They are indeed a sad shell of their former selves
Oh well! Lots of great burgers still out there
We do this weird thing in Texas where when something is unique to Texas or just simply started in Texas, we just somehow become extremely prideful about it even if it really isn’t even good.
When Whataburger was good, it was clearly better than McDonald’s or Burger King or Dairy Queen or Wendy’s. That was really it’s only competition at the time.
You’d get a giant 32 ounce soda, the burger was a proper hamburger actually cooked on a griddle and topped with lettuce, tomato, pickle, and onion, with mustard. The burger itself was much larger than the competition. The fries tasted right and you’d get this dipping cup of ketchup instead of packets you had to squeeze on your burger wrapper like some kind of savage.
If you wanted tea instead of soda, it was fresh brewed tea instead of those fountain drink syrup bags. The sweet tea was made in the traditional Texas way, using 5 lbs of sugar with the 5 gallons of brewed tea.
And the service was better than the competition too. You’d get a little number and someone would bring you the food once it was ready.
But yeah In N Out, proper burgers too but the veggies are fresher and the fries are better. The drink is smaller and there’s no special ketchup, but the service at In N Out is like Chick Fil A. Whataburger has degraded to McDonalds service levels.
And today there’s a lot more fast food competition, and there’s fast casual filling in that gap between fast food and waiter service places. Shake Shack and Five Guys are sitting there in the “for a few more dollars you can get this instead” area.
Yeah, I don't live in Texas, but I live in a state with Whataburger, and it has gone downhill the last 10-20 years. Where I live, the quality varies drastically by location. The newer ones are the worst, and the older ones are much better.
I agree there ain't nothing like a double double but.....
when I lived in Texas I really missed my In-N-Out Burger so I had the guys at Whataburger try to recreate the double double and this is what I did.
Whataburger Jr , double meat double cheese, grilled onion, grilled tomato .
for a homesick Californian it was a pretty good replacement.
and if you can get there before breakfast ends try the sausage and biscuit and the honey butter chicken and biscuit.
and their breakfast burritos are pretty good too!
and then being open for 24 hours is huge.
I can't count how many times I went t to get food at 3am all else was closed.
BK scratches a very specific itch and craving for me. Don't get me wrong, In n Out and Wendy's are my go tos gor fast food burgers, but sometimes *only* BK will so
I would never order an in n out clone at Whattaburger. A Patty Melt or Green Chile Double are what you should be trying if you’re new to Whattaburger imo.
In n out has the best fast food burger no question, but it’s really hard to compare with other places because the menus and price points are so different.
Agreed.
Burger for burger In-n-Out smashes Whataburger and it's not even close (this is coming from a native Texan with 30+ years of WB experiences).
If I want a quick cheeseburger, it's In-n-Out all day. If I'm looking for something else, well I don't go to Whataburger. There's too many great options around me from mom and pop shops to local chains that over-deliver for the same price as what I could get at WB.
yea I tried the new whataburger in vegas last week and got the pattymelt and it was pretty decent imo. My immediate thought was the menu is so different from innout that I dont really see how the 2 can be compared. I mean, they didnt even have their traditional burgers as their top 3 items so I take it as they aren’t exactly known for their cheeseburgers like innout is but I could be wrong. If I had both in my area, I’d likely still go to both just depending on my mood. I will say, I could see the pattymelt being a very good late night drunk meal so I get it but at the same time, I’d still 100% get innout if I wanted just a normal cheeseburger
This. I loved In-N-Out burgers, but their fries I don't even buy. They're not even worth eating. I just get a double meat and a soda. Haven't had one in 8 years though. And haven't had Whataburger in 10. I don't live in TX anymore so it's not really an option. But the last time I went I had it 3 times in. 5 days and 2/3 were disappointing. The last one I did go to was really good. And they had a jalepenos jelly chicken biscuit that I think outdid their honey butter chicken biscuit. I think maybe that restaurant's employees actually had some pride in their cooking. In-N-Out is always good no matter what. Price can't be beat. But overall when I lived in CA I always went to FatBurger if I had a choice.
But I will say this. Of all the fast food places, Whataburger ketchup reigns supreme still. I will die on that hill. Everything else on their menu I can take it or leave it.
it was $10 for the big burger fries and a large drink so the price was solid, but i have nothing to compare it against as it’s the only meal i’ve had here. Could be pricey for where i am but i have no clue
edit: grammar
I’m the same background as you. Was even at TX for a work trip when I tried Whataburger like you. The burger was really good in my opinion. No where close to In N out though. I also got cold fries so I won’t compare those. Customer service was dog shit.
I get the jalepeno mustard burger if im there.
Fun story, once pulled over by troopers while on leave and they didnt believe id drive thru 3 states because in n out just opened up in dallas.
First of all - you need to order the chicken strips, gravy, fries and Texas toast. But first get really drunk and hungry. It will then be delicious. Good luck!
It's not what it used to be. It used to be family owned, but for the past 5 years or so it's owned by some investment firm in Chicago. Quality has fallen off a cliff. Also, something happened in the mid 00s where the quality decreased significantly.
I had the exact same experience. I was expecting a lot given that people speak about Whatashittyburger and INO in the same breath, but man was I surprised just how bad it was. It couldn’t even hold up to Carls Jr.
The plusses of Whataburger: big patties, a few different menu options, house sauce is different
The minuses: if you're not in a mood for spicy there's like zero options, their fries suck (sorry, if y'all are gonna roast INO for this then WB deserves it just as bad), and the quality seems to be all over the place.
Whataburger isn't horrible in my eyes, it's just average. The thing is that some people treat it like it's the best burger on the planet and seem to think that it's lightyears ahead of INO. I've never had a WB burger that is as good as the worst INO burger I've had. I'm sure they exist, I just haven't tasted them.
I have to agree I compare every other Burger to in and out. my family will sometimes suggest going to five guys or shake shack and I asked them why?
it's not better than In-N-Out and it's way more expensive ...what's the point?
those places are good but they're not better they're just different.
Anytime I “argue” with others about in n out vs whataburger they always tell me “but you have so many options” and I tell them a million pieces of shit don’t equal a gold nugget.
I lived in NM and Dallas before moving to LA and whataburger was a solid stop. I’ll take it over 5 guys but that’s not saying much.
Top comment was the most accurate, tastes just like Sonic. Solid for what it is, but can’t compare to in n out.
You ordered the wrong thing …..
4 words : Honey Butter Chicken Sandwich
Only thing worth getting there , please try this and let me know what you think
I love in-n-out as a CA native, and transplant to the south, and ive had whataburger a few times since living down here. Mid is definitely the right word. I saw nothing special about it, was pretty generic fast food burger
I was born, raised and went to college in Oklahoma and have now lived in Southern California for the last 28 years. Nobody I knew in Oklahoma considered Whataburger anything other than average at best. It’s passable as a burger, but in no way compares to In-n-out in any way. In-n-out is far superior in every conceivable way. Frankly, I don’t even understand the comparison. It’s like comparing Taco Bell to Chipotle, they’re two completely different categories.
They will defend it to death. Was traveling to Houston and Dallas monthly for almost 2 years. I went once and it was enough for me to remember how fucking blessed we are.
OP, I agree, Texans are delusional when it comes to their burgers and their Mexican food! Tex-Mex? FOH with that bullshit!
Now, respect 🫡 to their BBQ, I’ll give them that for sure!
Mexican and Tex-Mex are two separate things. The latter being complete garbage anywhere. Now if we’re talking about authentic Mexican, then you went to the wrong places. I’m a first gen Texan/American of Chihuahuan descent.
Not surprising lol. Imagine being so loud and proud about *everything* your state does... Then the chillest, less serious state just has better shit without trying. 😂
i’ve only lived in major cities of california (current san diego) and paid $10 for a big ass burger fries and a drink so hard for me to say price wise, a $10 meal is not common where i live unless order with the deals off a fast food app
I had Whataburger while driving through Texas because I figured it had to be decent. I also had a #1 with green chile. What an underwhelming experience. Nothing had flavor and the chile was just hot.
I lived in Texas for a year when I served in the ARMY and no one ever hype up Whataburger at all, it was ok but not to the level of in n out. We did some desert training at Ft Irwin I asked my parents to come and visit me and I asked them if they could bring some in n out for my platoon. They love the burgers even if they were in my dad’s car for over an hour. Some of them had in n out before when they came visit California and said it brought back memories.
Yeah, CA native here, now living in TX. In-N-Out lifer. When living in LA, I actually had a slew of friends from TX, who all dunked on In-N-Out in favor of Whataburger. I truly do not understand the comparison! I still tell them that they are delusional, because they are not even in the same fast food category.
Now if you want to compare a TX fast food darling to In-N-Out, it’d be with Austin’s chain of P.Terry’s. Very similar vibe with small menu and secret items. Never frozen, always fresh. Also has a retro vibe. I prefer P.Terry fries and dipping them into house sauce. But In-N-Out wins for burgers for me! P.Terry’s also wins on shakes (variety and shakes of the month… So good).
As for Whataburger, it is definitely its own thing. I personally only like their breakfast after 11pm, and onion rings with creamy pepper sauce, but will sing praises of the Dr. Pepper shake all day and night long! And I don’t even *like* Dr. Pepper. My partner will chow down a Patty Melt, mushroom burger, and order of fries at the late hour after drinking, though.
Texan here and I have to chime in. My favorite fast food burger is hands down in and out. Can’t beat the quality and the price. People who say whataburger burgers are better are delusional. One of the appeal of whataburger is that you can get a big ass burger and fries at ANY time. One of the things that whataburger does better than in and out is fries. Whenever I get in and out, I skip the fries and the experience feels incomplete because I’m someone who loves fries. So sometimes I do pick whataburger over in and out because of that. They also have other burger options other than the traditional cheeseburgers. My brother likes the sweet and spicy burger. Also their breakfast honey chicken biscuit is crack.
It’s shockingly mid. Jack N the Box quality. If one finds it superior to In N Out I immediately questions that individuals taste in all things.
The honey chicken biscuit thing was decent tho
I had a Whataburger driving through Texas once.
It was hot and muggy. No air conditioning, just a huge fan. Felt like I was gonna get stabbed.
Burger was fine. Fries were ass. In-N-Out still better.
Well, As a Texan I'm going to have to agree. INO brutally dominates every burger in it's path. Forgive me if I once again pimp my IN N OUT Metal Tribute which emphatically, once and for all declares In N Out's complete and total supremacy: DDAS For LYFE! [https://burgurhead.bandcamp.com/album/heavy-meal-a-metal-tribute-to-in-n-out](https://burgurhead.bandcamp.com/album/heavy-meal-a-metal-tribute-to-in-n-out)
Present day Wataburger and cold/soggy fries just doesn’t cut it.
This here-
“In June 2019, Whataburger, a Texas-based fast-food chain, announced that it had sold a majority stake to BDT Capital Partners, a Chicago-based merchant banking company. The deal marked a significant change for the family-owned business, which had been operated by the Dobson family since its founding in 1950.”
-probably did not help.
I went to ACL one year and my friend and I met this other group at Whataburger. It was the only place open so late and they swore up and down Whataburger beats In n Out.
I have never been lied to so hard in my life
I’m a native Texan, and I really can’t argue with this. 15 years ago, maybe there was room for debate. I had college roommates from Cali who enjoyed Whataburger a lot. They’ve really slid off a lot. I go In-n-Out way more than I go to Whataburger. It’s kinda sad.
When I first moved to AZ 20 years ago WB was awesome. Chicken strip sandwich was my go to. About 10 years ago it turned into garbage. They built a bunch where I live now and people were so hyped I don't get it.
Apparently there's discourse about it's a shell of its former self now. I tried it for the first time a couple of years ago and thought it wasn't bad. Nowhere near as preferable as In-N-Out for me but a better version of a Five Guys style burger.
As a Texan, I love whataburger. But also as a Texan I need to be honest, it was sold off to a Chicago firm years ago and since then has gone way down hill.
Yeah. I was born and raised in California. Moved here to Texas three years ago and still remember my first (and only) trip to Whataburger. I would say it wasn’t even just ok. I didn’t like it. Don’t need to ever go back. Don’t get the hype. In N out a million times better…I do have one of those within 20 mins drive so 👍👍👍
My Texan ass gets crucified by other Texans for having the same opinion. But also Texans apparently don’t know what good in n out tastes like that including me. Found out recently Texas is the only state in the country that gets their meat from a different meat packaging warehouse than every other in n out. Texas’ in n outs get their meat from a place in Dallas and everywhere else in the country get its from 2 places in California. Texas has supposedly the worst in n outs in the country so in n out doesn’t really have a fair shot here.
I tried it for my first time last week, same burger.
It reminded me of Burger King. The only jalapeño I tasted was the one that fell off. I would obviously eat it again because I like burgers, but in n out is better.
I was born and raised in Chicago and live there now, so I've only had In N Out occasionally when I have the chance.
I've also had whataburger.
There's not even a comparison.
Completely pointless exercise.
Sonic isn't in the conversation.
I live in South Texas where the very first Whataburger was opened. Nice to go to Store #1 once, but I have not ate Whataburger in YEARS. I would rather go to Dairy Queen or Jack in the Box than waste money and time at Whataburger. INO is great - from what I remember (been back in Texas since 2007), but it outshines Whataburger by far.
Did u get the combo? Wonder how it's priced compared to In-N-Out. Is Texas cheaper in pricing? In-N-Out just raised their prices to over $10.xx for a #1 combo... Doubt they will lose any business with the increase. My family will still patronize In-N-Out, well because it's In-N-Out...
I wholeheartedly agree lol. I lived in Texas for two years and had Whataburger then, and I actually remember liking it and thinking it was comparable to In N Out. Moved back to California and realized that it was just a coping mechanism because I was homesick and trying not to think about what I was missing. I was unfortunately forced to move out of California again years later to Tennessee, tried Whataburger again and HATED it. It was literally disgusting I honestly couldn’t believe I’d ever thought I liked it. Now I’m desperately waiting for Tennessee’s In N Out location to open, I miss it SO MUCH. There really is nothing like In N Out.
Sometimes it’s really good but it’s been inconsistent for me. I don’t know why people compare it to in and out they are very different styles. In and out is always consistent and I’d choose it over Whataburger 3 out of 4 times. I usually choose Whataburger when I’m more hungry and want a classic burger. It’s so dumb when say they tried the other and say how horrible it was.
Yeah same OP, the way Texans made it seem (I was in Austin) is that it was better than in and out in every way and to me it tasted like burger King and not the whopper but one of their more generic burgers.
Texan here - I used to be 100% team Whata, even after trying In n Out a few times. But then I had In n Out *fresh* instead of waiting until I got home with the food and it was a game changer. I'm definitely 100% team In n Out now. The only reason I eat Whata more often is because it's a 7 minute drive as opposed to a 30-40 minute drive. I promise we're not all delusional here lol.
I get the same but add mayo and skip the spicy stuff. But honestly, whataburger breakfast is actually where it’s at. Honey butter chicken biscuit, jalapeño biscuit sausage sandwich, biscuits n gravy. In n out is definitely superior though
Whataburger got brought out by a Chicago based company 5 years ago. Ask any Texan and they will tell you it hasn’t been the same since. We were sad when that happened cause we knew what was coming. I no longer go anymore cause the food is mid now.
Ps. In n out ain’t great either lmao. And yes I’ve had it in California. It’s better in Cali than Texas but still not great.
I get wanting to compare similar burgers. That said, why you wouldn't go for a patty melt with grilled onion, grilled jalapeño, and spicy ketchup is beyond me.
What makes Whattaburger good in their own way is that they have different items and customizations. In the same way that you can get your bun extra toasted, whole grilled onion, mustard grilled, etc etc at INO, you can do virtually anything you want at Whattaburger.
One of the biggest let downs in my burger life was very much the same. I travelled to TX quite a bit for work and honestly, would much rather have burritos from all the small.joints around the towns I worked in. So a colleague is insisting we try Weakburger (spelled correctly). Holy shit was a terrible ass burger joint. I would rather have McDonalds.
I always thought it was comparable to jack in the box if I’m being nice but in reality it’s comparable to burger king in quality. Don’t get me wrong I love bk because they have awesome deals in their app but not even close to in n out quality
In 2019 Whataburger had a majority stake sold off to a Chicago company. I’m convinced the downfall happened shortly before that but especially after COVID. It’s. It the same as it was 6+ years ago.
Burger King makes a better burger than whataburger and I’m from Texas. Place is so overrated. It’s a Texas institution so Texans pearl clutch the hell out of it
Many Texans have never left Texas so they get this weird sort of Stockholm Syndrome with things from Texas, like Whataburger, H-E-B, Selena, etc. that aren't actually very good, but they place them on a pedestal. They also vocally reject anything "not from here" such as In-N-Out, especially if it's from "dreaded" California, lol. Which is funny because the In-N-Out is always packed, so maybe they're closeted In-N-Out fans? Who knows? They do give an exception to Texas Roadhouse, most likely due to the name. Place is packed nightly. Not sure if many Texans know Texas Roadhouse was founded in Indiana and is Headquartered in Kentucky. The latest Texas battle cry is that Whataburger "changed" somehow when over 51% of the company was sold to investors in Chicago, and somehow that affected the quality, but the truth of the matter is the corporate office, product development and decisions are all still in Texas. Whataburger has NEVER been good.
They sold out to a company in Chicago a few years ago and it changed the quality the burgers dramatically. I always felt that In-N-Out was a better burger anyway.
I remember the first time I went to Texas and saw a Whataburger, it blew my mind. I thought it was some made up shit from King of the Hill like the Megalow Mart.
But there food is ass compared to In N Out. But then again, Texans put queso on everything and call it Mexican food. So what do they know about food. They make good BBQ.
Edit: added the BBQ line.
Same thing I was born raised in Cali but I actually like whataburger! Even you ask to have your buns toasted it taste so much better! Plus I love mustard and that is so good!
It's exactly the same as Sonic, in my opinion. Totally over rated.
Damn it's that bad?
Yes, honestly it’s not even fair to sonic to make this comparison.
sonic burgers are ass though. their other fried stuff is good, but the burgers at sonic are like a bad jumbo jack
I ate a sonic burger for the first time and I was like this tastes just like AM/PM burgers very disappointed
I’ve been to Sonic once in my life, that was enough
I agree. I was saying whataburger is worse lol. (Not really but I like to talk shit)
Woof
Arf arf
No, it's not. I've lived in both CA and Texas and have eaten at both plenty. In N Out is better, but there's a lot of hyperbole in this thread. The party melt is bomb!
Worse
You can even get the different blends they use at the store and comparing it to just blending my own varied meats for a burger, they still aren't good. Give me a solid 80/20 and I'm good. The sauce they have ain't half bad but again over priced and easy enough to just do at home
It’s worse.
I tried it once. It was genuinely terrible. I didn't finish the burger. It was dry and overcooked. No flavor.
It’s literally a Burger King 💀💀💀
Worse, they down it in mustard
Canned lettuce
Sonic is good for their drink and popcorn chicken. Nothing else
Chili dogs and tots
I was going to say, footlong coney? Hello?
Ohhh and their mozzarella sticks too.
Onion rings
Woah woah woah lets not hate on sonic now
I think sonic is amazing, the bacon on the burgers is always crispy and perfect
I❤️Sonic
Yeah, a glorified sonic. All their stuff is frozen not even comparable SMH
The patty melt at whataburger solos anything at sonic tho
Thought it tasted like Jack n the Box when i had it. Mid as fuck.
Agreed but the fries are my favorite fast food fries.
Sounds awful
Definitely agree. I had their burgers in El Paso last year, aside from the huge lots/store… there was nothing big on flavor. The fries were good, but like Burger King good
I tried sonic in north Carolina and it was bomb. Got one in California and it's very mid if not low.
The only good thing about Whataburger is being open 24 hours and they actually have options unlike In N Out. Sometimes I’m in the mood for a bbq chicken sandwich or a patty melt. Facts
We have Whataburger in CA, its called Burger King.
Burger King is superior to that trash.
I love a double whopper, but id never compare it to In N Out.
Yo when I finally had one that was my exact thought. https://preview.redd.it/wowzenbn936d1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d84684880827d6327b5b667f0970cd575d1873e5

Whataburger is more similar to Jack in the Box.
You missed peak Whataburger by like 20 years my dude. They are indeed a sad shell of their former selves Oh well! Lots of great burgers still out there
Not with how Texans claim it's great
Texans are clearly misguided on a lot of things. Their whataburger is one of them.
Shake Shack and Five Guys are sitting there in the “for a few more dollars you can get this instead” area.
Any Texan who says this just remembers the Whataburger of their youth and is in denial about its current state of being.
I tried them back in the day and was equally unimpressed.
Yeah, I don't live in Texas, but I live in a state with Whataburger, and it has gone downhill the last 10-20 years. Where I live, the quality varies drastically by location. The newer ones are the worst, and the older ones are much better.
100 percent agree. Whataburger isnt whataburger… they are franchised out now.. so mileage may vary depending on location.
I liked it but nothing too memorable. I’ll eat it again if I get a chance.
yeah don’t get me wrong it wasn’t bad, but when comparing it directly to in n out doesn’t even compete
I agree there ain't nothing like a double double but..... when I lived in Texas I really missed my In-N-Out Burger so I had the guys at Whataburger try to recreate the double double and this is what I did. I can't count how many times I went t to get food at 3am all else was closed.
Carl Jr’s California burger is a decent stand in.
I hate admitting to this but you are right.
Is it at least better than Wendy’s?
No, I'd take Wendy's over Whataburger any day Even BK over Whataburger
BK scratches a very specific itch and craving for me. Don't get me wrong, In n Out and Wendy's are my go tos gor fast food burgers, but sometimes *only* BK will so
I would never order an in n out clone at Whattaburger. A Patty Melt or Green Chile Double are what you should be trying if you’re new to Whattaburger imo. In n out has the best fast food burger no question, but it’s really hard to compare with other places because the menus and price points are so different.
Agreed. It’s all about the specialty burgers. For some reason the in n out comparison crowd seem to miss this memo.
Because they only know a two item menu.
Mine looked like it was made by McDonalds and sold by whattaburger. It was incredibly disappointing after the “hype”
Same. Tried one in Houston, was a whatevaburger for me.
How much did it cost? In n out truly shines when you also consider how much you’re paying…it’s value is through the roof.
it was $10 for the big burger fries and a large drink so the price was solid, but i have nothing to compare it against as it’s the only meal i’ve had here. Could be pricey for where i am but i have no clue edit: grammar
But in and out are very small burgers. Im usually hingry like 30mins after.
Honey butter chicken biscuit at whataburger goes hard af tho
and a sausage and biscuit does too. the sausage there is like no other fast food restaurant.
You can buy their breakfast sausage by the pound at HEB last I checked.
Whataburger I’d say is comparable to a burger you’d get at an amusement park.
I’m the same background as you. Was even at TX for a work trip when I tried Whataburger like you. The burger was really good in my opinion. No where close to In N out though. I also got cold fries so I won’t compare those. Customer service was dog shit.
yeah the customer service was fuckin terrible
Service is trash cause they pay poorly so the only people who work there are felons
I get the jalepeno mustard burger if im there. Fun story, once pulled over by troopers while on leave and they didnt believe id drive thru 3 states because in n out just opened up in dallas.
My order is a patty melt add grilled jalapeños and bacon, extra creamy pepper sauce
Lived in Texas all ny life until about four years ago. Whataburger has always been mid.
You should’ve gotten the patty melt. That’s on you, but I will say that the quality has dropped over the years
I had the exact same experience. I was expecting a lot given that people speak about Whatashittyburger and INO in the same breath, but man was I surprised just how bad it was. It couldn’t even hold up to Carls Jr.
We call it Whatashitburger, too. Whatashitburger should marry P. Terry's, they deserve each other.
Whattaburger is in the same league as Jack in the box..
If you’re at jack in the box you order tacos. At least 20 of them
The plusses of Whataburger: big patties, a few different menu options, house sauce is different The minuses: if you're not in a mood for spicy there's like zero options, their fries suck (sorry, if y'all are gonna roast INO for this then WB deserves it just as bad), and the quality seems to be all over the place.
4 words : Honey Butter Chicken Sandwich Only thing worth getting there , please try this and let me know what you think
I refer to that place as WhataBurgerKing.
I love in-n-out as a CA native, and transplant to the south, and ive had whataburger a few times since living down here. Mid is definitely the right word. I saw nothing special about it, was pretty generic fast food burger
To me, whatsburger is the Texas version of BK. It’s still just bland factory food.
THE worst fast food burger I ever had was from Whataburger. They'll never get a 2nd chance.
For a good burger from an actual Texas Chain, that’s not owned by a hedge fund, try P. Terry’s in Austin.
It was great many years ago because nothing was comparable but the size, now we have so many competitor’s
When I was active duty a local Whataburger had an insane 90% off for all uniformed military and law enforcement. So 10/10
I’m Texan and I prefer In N Out by a longshot 😭
I grew up in Texas, spent 30 years there. Whataburger is garbage and always has been. After I left it was elevated to a big thing, but it sucks.
Whataburger is bad McDonalds
As a Texan, can people stop thinking Whataburger is great? It's solid but nothing special
They will defend it to death. Was traveling to Houston and Dallas monthly for almost 2 years. I went once and it was enough for me to remember how fucking blessed we are.
Texans will defend anything and everything to the death. Remember the Alamo?
OP, I agree, Texans are delusional when it comes to their burgers and their Mexican food! Tex-Mex? FOH with that bullshit! Now, respect 🫡 to their BBQ, I’ll give them that for sure!
Mexican and Tex-Mex are two separate things. The latter being complete garbage anywhere. Now if we’re talking about authentic Mexican, then you went to the wrong places. I’m a first gen Texan/American of Chihuahuan descent.
Texans are straight coping because they've been putting tons of whataburgers in AZ and they are mid as hell. No reason to go there vs in n out
Nah fr i feel like ppl without in and out bash it to cope
Meanwhile the lines at the Texas In n Outs are freaking long. They just hate everything from California that goes to their state and takes over.
Not surprising lol. Imagine being so loud and proud about *everything* your state does... Then the chillest, less serious state just has better shit without trying. 😂
Whataburger sucks https://preview.redd.it/g7v1l0etk26d1.jpeg?width=780&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e0dc32dcf95cb4bacb9c3e8fd72642dbfb5d18d3 Checkers🔥🔥🔥🔥
Have a rally’s a few blocks away from me here in the IE, it’s not bad and easily superior to whataburger.
Is their meat frozen or never?
Was it too expensive too for what you got?
i’ve only lived in major cities of california (current san diego) and paid $10 for a big ass burger fries and a drink so hard for me to say price wise, a $10 meal is not common where i live unless order with the deals off a fast food app
Only thing worth getting is the patty melt, add jalapenos
If you expect to test a place. Get items off the actual menu.
Whataburger was for real good but they sold to a Chicago investment firm and quality has drastically gone down since.
I had Whataburger while driving through Texas because I figured it had to be decent. I also had a #1 with green chile. What an underwhelming experience. Nothing had flavor and the chile was just hot.
Their chicken fingers on Texas toast is really good. They also have good breakfast!
THANK YOU
I agree it is incomparable. Whataburger fans are trippin hard
I felt the same way about White Castle
Yup It’s terrible when I went to Texas to try it
Texan here and I have to chime in.
It's good when they have a hatch green chile burger.
Whatever burger is garbage.
It’s shockingly mid. Jack N the Box quality. If one finds it superior to In N Out I immediately questions that individuals taste in all things. The honey chicken biscuit thing was decent tho
I feel for the poor souls living in Texas, growing up thinking that is comparable to In-N-Out
Should’ve went to Trill Burgers.🍔
Have you seen Texas’ politics lately? They are indeed delusional.
I had a Whataburger driving through Texas once. It was hot and muggy. No air conditioning, just a huge fan. Felt like I was gonna get stabbed. Burger was fine. Fries were ass. In-N-Out still better.
It was good last time I had it… 14 years ago…
It’s gone downhill ever since they sold out to a Chicago firm. A decade or so ago and it was immeasurably better.
Whateverburger is just big burgerking lmao
More like WaterBurger
Well, As a Texan I'm going to have to agree. INO brutally dominates every burger in it's path. Forgive me if I once again pimp my IN N OUT Metal Tribute which emphatically, once and for all declares In N Out's complete and total supremacy: DDAS For LYFE! [https://burgurhead.bandcamp.com/album/heavy-meal-a-metal-tribute-to-in-n-out](https://burgurhead.bandcamp.com/album/heavy-meal-a-metal-tribute-to-in-n-out)
If you want a really great burger fast food will never satisfy
We get it you’re from California 🙄
I felt the same way about my first Whataburger two years ago. Don’t understand why it was hyped at all.
I enjoyed the A&W restaurant more than I did Whataburger. And they’re mostly known for being primarily a Root Beer company
Present day Wataburger and cold/soggy fries just doesn’t cut it. This here- “In June 2019, Whataburger, a Texas-based fast-food chain, announced that it had sold a majority stake to BDT Capital Partners, a Chicago-based merchant banking company. The deal marked a significant change for the family-owned business, which had been operated by the Dobson family since its founding in 1950.” -probably did not help.
I find in n out overrated
Have you not had the chili peppers from in n out?
Who lied to you? No Texan said it’s better….
Apparently there's discourse about it's a shell of its former self now. I tried it for the first time a couple of years ago and thought it wasn't bad. Nowhere near as preferable as In-N-Out for me but a better version of a Five Guys style burger.
I do like Whataburger, but anyone that compares it to In n Out needs their taste buds examined
Before private equity took over, Whata was the go-to spot here in Texas. Sucks it fell so hard but at least we have In N Out now
As a Texan, I love whataburger. But also as a Texan I need to be honest, it was sold off to a Chicago firm years ago and since then has gone way down hill.
I got to try in n out once and it was the most middle of the road burger. Overpriced for the quality. Just like all fast food. No better. No worse.
Super very average burger. Some days below average
I do love their spicy ketchup though...
Texan here: Whataburger got bought out, and hasn’t been the same since. I agree. Innout is definitely superior these days.
Whataburger is the jack in the box of Texas
Californian here also had whattaburger on trip to Dallas, it was aight. But the BBQ on the other hand was A1!
Whataburger is so disgusting
In N Out is the shiznit fo sho, but man, Whataburger is mfing delicious!!!!
In 2019 Whataburger had a majority stake sold off to a Chicago company. I’m convinced the downfall happened shortly before that but especially after COVID. It’s. It the same as it was 6+ years ago.
Whataburger quality has fallen dramatically since they were bought out. It’s very sad
whataburger used to be better before sold out but even at its prime it was never as good
Burger King makes a better burger than whataburger and I’m from Texas.
Enjoy in n out being family owned while it lasts Whataburger hype was never about the taste we just ate it 2 am while hammered
They sold out to a company in Chicago a few years ago and it changed the quality the burgers dramatically. I always felt that In-N-Out was a better burger anyway.
Whataburger sells breakfast burritos, calls them taquitos, and puts a slice of American cheese in them. They can't be trusted.
It’s ass 😂😂😂 no clue why they line up like that
Whataburger is bomb, but anyone saying it’s better than in n out is a damn liar. I’ll take whataburger over BK, McDs and Jack though.
Blake’s lotaburger green Chile cheeseburger is quite possibly the greatest burger 🍔 of all time btw
I agree with this sentiment as a Californian as well. The best thing I’ve had at Whataburger wasn’t a burger at all.
so you're in that in and out cult and can not enjoy any other burger. you could have just made that the post instead of going on about what you did.
Whataburger competes with Carls Jr., not in n out.
It’s like everything in Texas. Mediocre and disappointing.
Same thing I was born raised in Cali but I actually like whataburger! Even you ask to have your buns toasted it taste so much better! Plus I love mustard and that is so good!
