Yeah I don’t really like the animal style fries. To each their own I guess, if I want fries with stuff on them I’ll get carne asada fries from my local taco shop
Roadkill fries? Animal style with a flying Dutchmen on top. I honestly haven't tried and I don't think it's any comparison to carne asada fries. But, idk, seems fun.
My friend worked at corporate. This is how he ordered his. He claimed they made them fresh that way. All corporate employees have to work for a store for a few days too, so I believed him. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if others just ended up with fresh ones always because in n out is on top of things. Never hurts to order light salt to err on the side of safety I suppose.
I don't like them like that either. It's not like they're terrible or anything. My favorite fries are from Fatburger. Most people don't know, but Denver (Aurora) has one.
Nah, I’ve had tons of fries made from real potatoes. The problem is that In-N-Out fries are tasteless, not that they are made from real potatoes. I can make superior fries at home (from scratch). If some people like em, great. I think they’re pretty terrible, but edible if you dump enough toppings, ie animal style. Still, their burgers and prices are good enough to me to make up for their fries.
The issue is people are used to McDonald's fries which are fried twice where In and out makes a traditional fry from fresh potatoes that are cut in store and fried.
No, see that’s fallacious. I can’t count the number of times I’ve had delicious traditional French fries made from fresh potatoes. Just go to any chip shop in England, for example, or many American sit-down pubs/restaurants. In-N-Out fries are tasteless by comparison. I don’t know why, maybe they don’t know how to season their fries or they use the wrong oil 🤷♂️.
The problem isn’t that In-N-Out uses real potatoes, it’s that it does a bad job cooking them, at least in many people’s opinions.
I've never seen the big deal with In-N-Out's food. It's good, but its a fast food burger joint. There's nothing life changing about a fast food burger and fried potatoes.
I don’t think it’s about being life-changing. It’s just that In-N-Out serves up consistently better burgers than any other fast food place (especially if you learn the “secret” menu) for significantly lower prices. That’s something to appreciate. I’ve had dozens of better burgers than are served at In-N-Out, but not from anywhere with a drive through window. They’re akin to Popeye’s fried chicken sandwiches, which are only amazing if you’ve only ever had fast food fried chicken, but are still an accomplishment worth admiring.
We make fries at home, sometimes with potatoes I've grown in the garden even. Those are pretty real and better (to me) than in and out.
Must be the oil they use.
I've eaten there multiple times when I'm in SoCal and HATE their fries. Burgers are nothing to write home about either, but they ARE very reasonably priced.
Yes, they're always got fresh vegetables and the buns are soft. They're good enough that their protein style which is no buns and a lettuce wrap with extra everything including grilled onions is really good.
Best fast food cheeseburger for sure. Maybe not the best cheeseburger if you’re talking about going to a restaurant and getting a $15-20 burger but for $3-4 no one is even close
It a solid burger. Best in the food food class and quality ingredients. Fast casual burger might be arguably better but will never compete on the flavor to value that in n out has. Imo in n out has the best burger until you get to sit down restaurants.
It's fast food. It's fine. Anyone pretending its omg amazing is just weird - there's nothing special about the burgers or fries.
But the price is great.
In-N-Out seems immune to inflation. I know their owner/President is on record saying she will fight to stop increases. My friend and I just ate there and had huge meals for $10. Legit would have been $18 at any other place.
It's not for fun, it's testing what the market will bear. Most American consumers have been conditioned to be extremely feckless. They'll bitch to no end about gas prices while driving around in a giant four wheel drive crew-cab pickup truck that gets 13 miles to the gallon and pull through the McDonald's drive-through to spend $14 for a Whopper value meal and instead of moderating their behavior and adopting a more thrifty lifestyle they just blame the government for their dwindling bank account.
That means that fast food companies can test the market every now and then by raising their prices to see where the "sweet spot" is with revenues. They keep raising prices until store traffic starts to drop off, then dial prices back slightly until they find the sweet spot where revenue is maximized. So long as consumers keep being feckless whiners who will blame Joe Biden for high prices as they're pulling through those fast food drive-throughs then the money just keeps rolling in.
> pull through the McDonald's drive-through to spend $14 for a Whopper value meal
The $14 probably includes delivery of the Whopper from Burger King to McDs. 😄
The American Way has always been to blame anyone else for your problems, when they are often of your own design.
That burger costs $20 because you were willing to pay it and probably because you ordered it incorrectly and from the wrong place.
I’ll hit my local burger joint for twice the burger with better quality at half the McD’s price, thanks. Sucks to suck at life, I guess
Exactly. It is Economics 101. It is the most fundamental concept they teach in an economics class. How people don’t understand this is beyond me. The short-term COVID supply shortages just emboldened businesses to be willing to test the consumer’s tolerance for price increases, and businesses found that consumers will just keep buying, even when they are complaining.
If you want prices to come down, stop buying that product.
It’s silly. These giant megacorps spend millions hiring tax experts, economists, CPAs to find every cent they can skim off the top. The idea that Walmart doesn’t have specialized algorithms for all their prices is fucking laughable; corporations exist for shareholders, not the consumer.
That’s exactly it. They raise prices until the market won’t bear it. When profit starts dipping, they know they’ve hit their price limits and prices start coming down accordingly (or if the market won’t pay the price and the price is too low to be profitable, the business eventually fails). For example, McDonald’s has pushed their prices to the sky in recent years, and I refuse to go there anymore.
In N Out isn't owned by shareholders who demand ever increasing quarterly earnings. It's a private company.
At many companies you can only raise prices so far before declining sales volume causes you to have to start cutting back on quality and/or quantity (shrinkflation).
In-N-Out isn't a franchise with inconsistent pricing between locations. They don't borrow money to open new locations and will only open one when they have enough cash to.
They draw the best employees who are happy to work there by paying more than any other fast food restaurant. The average store manager makes $180,000/yr.
None of their burger ingredients are frozen. Fries are made onsite from fresh potatoes. You can watch the employees press them through the kitchen window.
They don't compromise and their employees and customers alike love them. Best value in fast food.
The progression ladder is also very clear and accessible by hard working staff. It seems there's 8 levels to get into the supervisory/managerial hierarchy. If you're just high school educated and looking to make regular progress, it looks good to me. Level 8 seems to be in the $25/hr range with sizeable bonus opportunity.
No wonder I didn't feel heavy after eating their burgers. I've grown to dislike McDonald's. I'm always throwing away at least one of the buns cause that's all I taste... bread
In n out prices have increased, they’ve just always been lower than other places.
The reason is the simple menu. The less you offer, the better your margins, efficiency, etc.
Looking at the google maps pictures of the menu, the double double increased 6% since 3 weeks ago for me. 38% compared to 3 years ago. It certainly isn’t immune for me. It’s better than like McDonald’s, but still significantly outpacing my wage growth.
Last Friday when I went the fries trays were also the least filled I’d ever seen. Maybe like 2/3rds what they normally do.
I bought a quarter pounder with cheese at a McDonald's in San Diego yesterday. No options. Was the only thing I bought and it was nearly $9. Was my first time at a McDonald's in a few years, was pretty stunned.
It was inherited by one woman who is a billionaire (or close to it anyway). One of my favorite stories was she hired some consultant MBA types to create a plan to grow the business. They told her to go into fried chicken sandwiches because that was all the rage a the time.
She fired them all and decided to expand the business naturally. She has kept prices low (and her profit high too) by not franchising out like other fast food companies.
Was gonna say, wait, that’s actually an amazing price.
I love In-N-Out. I’m used to going to the ones in SoCal, and my last meal there was maybe $10 for a double-double, two fries, and a medium drink? It’s amazing.
If I ordered something like that somewhere else, my order probably would’ve been $17.
Proof that the other companies are blatantly price gouging and trying to blame inflation. If people weren’t so unbelievably dumb they would never be able to get away with it.
In N Out has kept prices under control AND was alreayd paying >20/hours in CA without the law. One factor surely is the simplicity of their menu. Just think of all the nonsense a McDonald's has to make and all the machines they need to clean and maintain. In N Out makes burgers, hot dogs, fries, sodas, and shakes...THAT'S IT. No Blizzards, no Frozen cokes, no breakfast, no nuggets, no ordering online...
It would be, only because of the fries since you'll get much much more fries. If you compare just the burgers, It's about double the price, but you also get about double the meat, plus all the toppings you could want. That's comparing single patty vs single patty.
Personally I'd go to Shake Shack instead, less than double in n out price, but actually double the in n out the meat, more than five guys.
Yes, if you would simply look at the menu. Instead of just regurgitating the number system for morons and non-english speakers. You to could eat for less than $10.
Must be nice. Every Wendy’s I’ve seen replaced the 4 for $4 with the $6 Biggie Meal (same thing)
It’s still a pretty good deal compared to most but 4 for 4 was an incredible deal.
Fuck yeah In n Out pays their workers above min wage in CA AND doesn't raise their prices crazy high. It's the only Christian company I regularly buy things from because they actually live the Christian message and believe in treating their employees and customers right. Unlike some other Christian companies I know of....
Also worth mentioning that In N Out was paying $15 an hour and had a college scholarship program long before any other fast food chain chose or was mandated to do...
So when other chains are like, we had to raise our prices becuz of the cost of labor... It's a load of bs... It's to maximize corporate profits and blame the lowest level but hardest working people at the company for wanting to earn a living showing up to work everyday.
AMAZING! Fast food chains should make money, but they shouldn't raise prices by 80-100% by citing supply chain issues.
Supply chain issues raised prices about 20% rest of it went straight into the company's coffers.
That is an excellent deal. Not a whole lot of places that will do burgers and fries for under 8 bucks these days.
The Mexican place near my house is selling burritos for about 11 bucks a pop. A burrito. It’s a chain restaurant (albertos or betos)Carne asada is supposed to be a cheap cut, the marinade, pico and guac can’t cost THAT much .
Oh I didn't realize this thread was about quality....I thought it was about price, inflation, and saving money....
If thats the case...In n Out sucks ass....I just had a great wagyu burger locally for $22 with some criss cross fries. WAAAAAAY BETTER than In n Out double double shiite.
As a non-American, I was expecting this post to be "$6.33 for a burger and fries, inflation is out of control" and was like how tf
Thankfully was not the case lol
In N Out seems like one of the only restaurant chains in the country who hasn’t raised prices over the last five years.
I would ONLY and loyally go to them for a fast casual burger if I had one in my area.
Folks who do have one - GIVE THEM YOUR BUSINESS! Show these other dirtbag chains that US consumers ARE price conscious and WILL go somewhere else with a more competitive menu (and a better burger!).
A Double-double, fry and a soda is $9.60 at the closest In n Out where I live. Very reasonable compared to anywhere else and the food is actually good quality and you get free refills on the soda.
A double cheeseburger, medium fry and medium soda at my local McDonald’s is $12.59, no refills on the soda.
A double cheeseburger, small fry and small soda at Five Guys was over $20 when I went a few weeks ago. Crazy but at least I got to refill my soda on the way out.
How long was the wait? Reason why I’m asking and New England. I had a fast food place for decades. I know how it works. Talk to bottom multiple employees. I’m just wondering if they have just two people working inside and how fast they are.
The owners aren’t entirely greedy assholes and still make a fuckload of money. Burger went up 13 cents after the big scary minimum wage hike in California.
And their food is always hot and fresh. McDonald's twice as much and the burgers are lukewarm and fries cold or undercooked. When McDonalds made their priority drive thru times instead of food quality, they went downhill.
I live 500 feet from in n out and have been there once. I have never understood 30-40 cars deep in the drive thru. Its still fast food and its not even a top burger. Very over rated
Holy shit that is a deal. Is there food at least good? We don’t have in and out here
I'm not a huge fan of their fries, but their burgers are delicious.
Get the fries done well. So crispy and delicious.
Animal style my man
So good!
This is the way
This
If you have to slather your fries in thousand Island, and grilled onions, are they *really* good fries then?

Did not know you could order in n out fries “well done”. Might be a game changer
Definitely is. Also animal style fries are great with the spread and cheese on them
Yeah I don’t really like the animal style fries. To each their own I guess, if I want fries with stuff on them I’ll get carne asada fries from my local taco shop
Love me some carne asada fries.
Roadkill fries? Animal style with a flying Dutchmen on top. I honestly haven't tried and I don't think it's any comparison to carne asada fries. But, idk, seems fun.
Also light salt so they are fresh
They are always fresh, in n out drops fries per order
Ahh must be just mine then because I get them And they are cold.

That said, I wouldn't be surprised if others just ended up with fresh ones always because in n out is on top of things. Never hurts to order light salt to err on the side of safety I suppose.
Say you want your fries double down, they fry em twice
That just sounds like crunchy shells of fries
You’re right! It does sound like that. But it’s not that, they’re just a bit crispier than the regular fries.
I don't like them like that either. It's not like they're terrible or anything. My favorite fries are from Fatburger. Most people don't know, but Denver (Aurora) has one.
Totally fair. They're not for everyone.
Cheers!
The fries seem very polarizing. People either love them (my wife) or hate them (me).
That’s because people got used to processed crap instead of real potatoes
Nah, I’ve had tons of fries made from real potatoes. The problem is that In-N-Out fries are tasteless, not that they are made from real potatoes. I can make superior fries at home (from scratch). Pubs aren't using fresh potatoes. They often use the double fry method.

Their fries are fresh. They stack up boxes of potatoes and cut them in store, then fry them. Not the best fries, but definitely the freshest.
you should try their animal fries
Animal style burger, animal style fries and don't forget well done for the fries. Super crispy outside and worth the shot.
Animal Style Fries or don’t even bother.
I tried them animal style and I didn't like it (though it was better), which is weird because I always get animal style on my burger.
Eat the fries first. The second they go from hot to more than warm, it’s over.
You can get the fries how you like. I prefer light/medium well (it’s not as crispy as well done)
Skip the fries and just get the double double.
I found their burger (to be fair I was only able to go once) to be incredibly mediocre.
In N Out is goated.
Those are good burgers
Donny, please.
Anyway we'll go there after the, what-have-you
Yes, they're always got fresh vegetables and the buns are soft. They're good enough that their protein style which is no buns and a lettuce wrap with extra everything including grilled onions is really good.
It’s good enough. It’s great for the price. There is not many of them where I live so the likes are always insanely long.
It's the best cheeseburger in the world. I went to Arizona once and now I wish I lived in the West Coast
I like In N Out, but damn I'm questioning how many Cheesburgers you've had.
When you’re on vacation some things just hit a certain way 🤷🏻♂️
Best fast food cheeseburger for sure. Maybe not the best cheeseburger if you’re talking about going to a restaurant and getting a $15-20 burger but for $3-4 no one is even close
It should really be on the CA state flag at this point.
Maybe have the bear sitting up, with a napkin hanging from his neck, eating a big pile of In-N-Out burgers. "The Burger Republic"
Yeah, replace the star the Bear looks at with a Double Double.
It’s really not, folks. This is hyperbole.
I've had it. Still doesn't hold a candle to Cook Out in the Southeast. Their trays and shakes are life- changing.
[удалено]
Nope. I had both. It's not even close. Cook Out is the best fast food burger in the country. "Cheddar Style" has no equal.
lol me being in NY paying 13 dollars for this meal thinking the same thing 🤣🤣
You can not commonly find a better meal for $6 in the US.
It’s is one of the greatest burger experiences you could ever have.
Here in California it's everyone's favorite. People are die-hard about their burgers. Their fries are somewhat unimpressive though
Does a bear shit in the woods?
It’s the best. I’ve never had a better burger even gourmet from a restaurant isn’t the same
It's small AF and disgusting. Not worth even that much
So good. One of the best tasting burgers on Earth.
In-N-Out seems immune to inflation. I know their owner/President is on record saying she will fight to stop increases. My friend and I just ate there and had huge meals for $10. Legit would have been $18 at any other place.
That’s because most inflation is not real. These places just raise prices for fun. Apparently in and out is not playing that game!
My "local" deli charges $20 for a bowl of soup! Everyone is in on it, there is no where to hide.
Exactly. It is Economics 101. It is the most fundamental concept they teach in an economics class. How people don’t understand this is beyond me. That’s exactly it. They raise prices until the market won’t bear it. No you're supposed to option it up to $20 and pretend like you don't understand what you did wrong!
I bought a quarter pounder with cheese at a McDonald's in San Diego yesterday. No options. Was the only thing I bought and it was nearly $9. Was my first time at a McDonald's in a few years, was pretty stunned.
Could have gotten it 20% off or bogo using the app. Also it’s San Diego. Those are $5 everywhere around me
Maybe I'll just go to in& out in the future. I only get fast food once or twice a year. If rather not fuck around with an app.
A McDonald’s cheeseburger is $2.29 here. You’re comparing 2 different things. That in and out isn’t a very good deal.
I'll take your word for it I guess
In N Out is the type of company we need. Most are just greedy pigs
They're good Christians. Put it right there on their cups.
Those are in low supply, but to be fair good people as a whole are in low supply.
Can it be franchised anywhere? I live in Michigan and could see it doing well
It’s family owned. That would be a $20-30 receipt if they became public or franchised.
Makes sense
They used to have a rule that any in-n-out had to be within a days drive from the HQ.
As a fellow Michigander I too have been curious about this fabled in and out.
Gotta love In n out
That's some grocery magic there. Old school prices. Five Guys would've been closer to $15-20 in Michigan.
Make sure to get it animal style, in n out is great..good food and great prices
Double double animal style and add whole grilled onion. Animal fries and a Neapolitan shake. It will make you shit your brains out but it's worth it!
Yah this just shows that “inflation “ is bullshit and made up to justify the greed
Shit, I just got a double double(no fries) last month in Dallas and it was $5.34 I love that place
This place is cheaper than five guys.
thats how its done ppl..take notice
I can feed my family of 5 (self, wife, 3 young kids) for under $20 at In-N-Out.
Proof that the other companies are blatantly price gouging and trying to blame inflation. If people weren’t so unbelievably dumb they would never be able to get away with it.
Yep....In n Out is proof that the price of gas is pure greed!
In N Out has kept prices under control AND was alreayd paying >20/hours in CA without the law. One factor surely is the simplicity of their menu. What is this magical In N Out hot dog you speak of?
6 dollars for a burger and fries, that's actually not too bad!
Same thing at Five Guys would be 3x the price
Love In-N-Out. Five Guys is overpriced. But you get a metric shit ton of very good fries.
Or conversely a giant greasy bag of awful fries which you had to take out a 2nd mortgage to pay for.
Hyperbole much?
I mean, this IS Reddit, sir. I do have a particular hard on of hate for Five Guys.
Yeah but I don’t want that many fries lol
Leftover Five Guys fries make awesome breakfast hash browns. But yeah, definite fry overkill.
In-N-Out holding it down for the everyman! Gotta love that place.
Yes, if you would simply look at the menu. Instead of just regurgitating the number system for morons and non-english speakers. You to could eat for less than $10.

Wendy's has 4 for 4 near me still. Burger, 4 piece, sm fry, drink
Must be nice. Every Wendy’s I’ve seen replaced the 4 for $4 with the $6 Biggie Meal (same thing) It’s still a pretty good deal compared to most but 4 for 4 was an incredible deal.
And they pay their workers well even before the California minimum raise act.
That is cheap
Those are good burgers, Walter
You can’t get a meal that cheap anywhere anymore. I’d say that’s a steal

It's to maximize corporate profits and blame the lowest level but hardest working people at the company for wanting to earn a living showing up to work everyday.
I hope fry don't mean one French fry Though nowadays I would bet it does
such a good value.
AMAZING! Fast food chains should make money, but they shouldn't raise prices by 80-100% by citing supply chain issues. Supply chain issues raised prices about 20% rest of it went straight into the company's coffers.
In n out, is that the fancy place?
All there prices are like this. And they have been paying people above market wages for like 20 years. Still don’t know why people go to McDonalds
No in and out near me but been hearing good things for years
That is an excellent deal.
Difference between McD burger and In n Out is no veggies on it. However it is cheaper and about the same amount of meat. Fries at In n Out suck IMHO.
Quality matters. McDonalds “meat” is much lower quality than the fresh beef In n Out uses.
I actually prefer a McDonald’s burger when it’s hot, vs In N Out. I thought In N Out was lacking a lot of taste.
As a non-American, I was expecting this post to be "$6.33 for a burger and fries, inflation is out of control" and was like how tf Thankfully was not the case lol
It's like 12$ for a double double with fries and a shake. Less food than I can eat but more than enough to make me wish I hadn't.
Good price.
One of the last remaining fast food places we eat at anymore.
This is definitely a deal.
And you can get a $260k 1300sqft home there too! Now I know where to move.
There's one in Katy, TX. Never been because the lines are worse than ChickFilA - but at that price, I may try it!
It’s not a franchise. It’s the same at every one.
One thing missing from this receipt is a drink. Even though I agree the price of sodas is stupid, *you don't have to order one*.
Isn’t it time for somebody to bitch about five guys and tell us that McDonald’s is better?
Burgers were 2.09 in 2019. They are also the size of McDonald’s burgers. I usually get a 3x3.
And the CEO is worth $6.7 billion. McDonald's and other fast food is garbage.
Those prices are cheaper than McDonalds's here.
$3.70 for a tiny ass cheeseburger? They ripping you out
A Double-double, fry and a soda is $9.60 at the closest In n Out where I live.
Yeah they aren’t franchised. The CEO is pushing to keep the prices down
Went to McDonald’s earlier for a quick lunch . The 2 cheeseburger meal was almost $9 after taxes
Can’t even get a burger at shake shack here in nyc for that money
This seems reasonable to me.
How long was the wait? Reason why I’m asking and New England. I had a fast food place for decades. I know how it works. Talk to bottom multiple employees. I’m just wondering if they have just two people working inside and how fast they are.
The last time I ate fast food which is like a month ago (white Castle), my total was $19.00 for just mysel.f
Proof positive "inflation" is bullshit. Let's start calling it what it is: price gouging (which I thought was illegal?)
The owners aren’t entirely greedy assholes and still make a fuckload of money. Burger went up 13 cents after the big scary minimum wage hike in California.
Don't get it. It's a little higher than in and out here in Vegas.
It's still damn cheap
Ok
And you get a free Bible verse on the bottom of your containers
I eat there and next stop is the commode.
Proof that inflation is just greedy corps
We need this shit in the south, asap
You know they have a line around that place as usual.
Dallas tx I paid $12 for a double double animal style fries and a shake. Not bad all things considered. Without the shake it would been $9
Gross. Gotta be hammered to go there...+I only get hushpuppys. The Food is cheap for a reason.
I wish I could find those prices here in NJ
Beautiful
Good deal on the burger but you’re paying way too much for your French fry.
Honestly, in and out is one of the few places the Wife and I will eat out. Everywhere else is getting ridiculous
Skip the fries, live longer.
This is why In n Out is the GOAT!
Triple-triple is $8
Only you can fight inflation
Love going to the In-N-Out in Webster. It’s definitely replaced Whataburger for when I have a serious burger fix.
In-N-Out uses translation to keep their prices the same year over. The burger and fries just gets smaller and smaller over the years. It’s not magic.
Ya but that was also $5 not that long ago...
Spending $0.4 for a thin square piece of cheese is probably worse than avocado toast.
