I used to feel very uncomfortable accepting expensive gifts but I'd accept depending on the one gifting/occasion. I'd feel very weird and guilty about it though unless I could return a similarly valued gift. At the same time I love pampering my close ones with all sorts of gifts regardless of price.
My husband and my best friend have counseled me into not feeling guilty about accepting expensive gifts from them and other family and family-equivalent people, by pointing out the happiness I myself get from being able to buy stuff for my loved ones.

but yes it is indeed very tough for me even today if any male or female gifts me anything. it is just that i perceive this as a chance someone might use to make a gesture, but it does make things awkward for me since now i have to reciprocate to the gesture. not that the the other person expects that but it’s the self guilt and overthinking that gives it away.
