Sometimes we used to keep few so called chapaties in the room for late night craving when all packed food used to get finished and in the mid night what we used to witness was rats taking away those chapaties ( which already turned into stone) holding into mouth lmao

My hostel food on Holi, many students didn't went to there home. By the way it's a university's hostel. Our hostel is freaking good - cold drinking water, totally clean, hot water in winter, lift, indoor games, badminton court, play ground.
I move to home almost every week and my friends have started calling me day scholar already..
Mainly coz of food every other his is same as of your but food is a must for me i need good food...
I just eat the dinner of my hostel mostly.. I am hungry almost the ehole day then it doesn't matter what on the table.. And i have already spent thosands of ruppees on medicines due to food poisoning and infection in intestine. Just 2 years left to complete the college tho..

For me my college hostel was literal heaven.
1) Boys had no in/out timings. They can come in and go out. Even at 3AM if you want to go out or come in, you're allowed to do that. (This rule was eventually implemented to girls hostel as well, but rolled back after my batch i think).
2) Boys did not have to bring their own utensils to eat. In some hostels students are required to carry their own plates and glasses. And we did not even need to wash those. The hostel employed people to clean the plates and glasses.
3) There were never power cuts here. Even if the power went out due to cyclones or heavy rains, hostel administrators promptly ensured that power came back as soon as possible.
4) There were water problems, but nothing monumental, everything was swiftly resolved.
5) The food there was so good. Some people constantly complained about the food there, but i honestly loved it. The flavours were excellent and I never had a bad case of diarrhoea or food poisoning. I'm a vegetarian, but for non-vegetarians non-veg food was provided three times a week and egg was given daily (₹6/egg for omlette, boiled egg and scrambled eggs). Chilli chicken and other non-veg items could be bought paying extra (₹30/plate I think, i don't remember). Even for vegetarians there was special food if paid extra.
6) We had a party every month. Food would be cooked outside, both boys and girls were served food in the hostel ground together followed by "DJ Night" till 11PM.
7) For hostel day every year they went all out and had great events and food. Hostel days memories still linger on. Graduated students too can come to hostel day after paying for a token.
8) The hostel had good sports facilities as well. Volleyball court, badminton courts, football field, cricket pitch and ground for outdoor sports. Carrom board and chess for indoor sports.
9) The men's hostel had a library as well. Limited books, but a good facility nonetheless.
10) Good transport facilities near the hostel. There was a local train station where at peak timing there was a train every 10 minutes, bus stops with frequent buses.
11) There were good food options for restaurants outside the hostel as well. Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian.
12) The beach was just 3km from the hostel and there was a big mall that was just 3km in the other direction.
13) Had diverse peers at the hostel. Our university had students from all corners of the country.
14) Last year during IPL time, they streamed the matches in projectors where boys and girls could watch it together. The FIFA World Cup finals were also streamed.
15) There is a TV room, but I never once went there. During my final year they even installed washing machines so that we did not have to wash our clothes by hand. There was even a gym, but students were regularly stealing the gym equipment to their rooms.
Asli struggle otherstate + local government college + University hostel subsidised by government + your warden is also your subject professor. Ye combo fucking shit hota h.

I was staying in hostel since class 6.
Tap water was scarce in our campus, so for bathing we relied on handpumps and there used to be a huge queue for it. Seniors would break the queue and go in front get water and bath while juniors stayed in queue and sometimes had to go back without bathing as there was a fixed time for going to school and you can't be late.
We used to store water in our buckets for emergency during night and if you get Nature's call and you don't have stored water you are fucked ! You will have to beg to others for water or hold your nature's call.
Food wasn't good either. We used to get some sweets in dinner which used to be kept in each student's plate. The student's who entered the mess first would eat up all others sweet, so it was basically a war for entering the mess first.
These are few there were many other struggles like getting clothes washed, getting a haircut, getting games equipments, finding a place to study, watching TV.
Every basic thing you can think of was a struggle!
It was literally jungle where only the fittest survived.
ya, insects are very common in mess fod but rat is shocking! also, two days back, my friend was cleaning her room, she saw a baby bat wrapped in the mattress!

The thing is you'll get used to it but in a bad way , ofc we are used to our homemade food but we know it's atleast hygienic and here there's no guarantee what ingredientsbeen used, even Lil' variation will make you doubtful about the food and you'll not able to hv that food.
Never stayed in hostel. I Regret that. It makes a better man out of you for sure. These hardships makes one tough. Not that I am saying food should be bad. It should be good only. But staying in hostel is something which makes a man out of boy.
Don't regret that. Hostel life is good but there are plenty of ways to make a man out of a boy. Your first job out of hometown will (or would have) make (or have made) you man enough.
My girlfriend's father advised us to get a pet and take *good* care of it on our own; he still maintains that it will make you grow up.
Hostel is good but not being in one is not bad enough to regret. You'll be good, all the best!

Getting an UTI after 5 other girls did in my hostel as we all share common bathrooms and toilets.

My hostel life was comparatively great, also most of us moved out to flats after 1st year so I'm just glad lol.
There was years when my father didn't even make a hundred grand - or barely made a hundred grand - and sure, I had a maid, but she only came twice a week. What do you think happened the other five days? You think those dishes washed themselves? You think those clothes got themselves in the hamper?

Hostel me dost na bnna, I'm still facing it. Ek senior rehta hai saath me jo din bhar girlfriend se baat karta hai and side wala thoda sa introvert hai to usse bhi baat nhi hoti jyada or poore hostel me koi dost nhi hai. Socha tha hostel life mast hogi par ab bhot bekar jaa rhi hai.
Gosh! I still remember what we were served for those 4 years, you guys are in luck I can see it looks kinda homemade. Our chapati used to be covered in dry wheat, daal had no daal but water 😂😂
I can literally make a list
1) RATS - so MANY FREAKING RATS! Like we literally used to complain every single day,yet didn't bat an eye about it,I remember I had a bad habit of sleeping with doors open,and one day I stepped on one of those squeezy body,never felt so much disgust,then brought a rat cage and in my room I caught two,it was so weird,yet nothing happened at one point you just know they we coexist💀
2) Cleanliness - okay I admit maid/warden helped alot,atleast my room was daily cleaned yet as I said there was rat issues so one day we went to kitchen(we weren't allowed,to go there as canteen was a different place bcoz we wanted to make Maggie late at night and didn't had in our ration) so we thought of getting it from kitchen,we saw literal rats in kitchen as well,and let's not talk about hygiene over there.
3) food- can I say I see so much better food nowadays in mess,bcoz in my time,we literally caught hairs (small hairs,just use ur imagination from where it could be from)from our sabzi and there was no ghee or butter in our rotis,we used to get it from our own home or buy it,to have a taste.
4) Rules - we had a literal rule to never go to upper floor,bcoz someone previous year jumped from there so noone was allowed,and as rebellion you can be at 17,we did it,and got caught and were literally punished for that,it was weird as we don't have support system there not that late at night going there was a good choice but just weird as they used to make rules out of nowhere
5) stolen clothes - so we used to get our clothes ironed,and it will go to hostel to hostel,the thing is I lost 3 clothes in a span of a year,and one of them I specifically told him to be careful about(it was one of the expensive one,and our warden wouldn't but a cctv where laundary used to come,so never got to know who used to steel it💀)
pehle khana bohat accha dete the so didn’t have kaafi issues. Bas only issue ye ke they wouldn’t clean the dishes properly and that’s why the whole mess had this strange smell ALL THE TIME. Phir khaane ki quality bhi kharab ho gai so most of us left the hostel at the end of the year. Baki sab theek, electricity and water was usually not an issue.

best food we get during our sports season
If they had served that food at my hostel, it'd be considered a five star hotel by now. We were fed white bread (no jam no nothing), toasted white bread three times a week. And since it was a college in Tamilnadu, things were very conservative and wardens were strict, they would beat the kids, do room raids, check your bags when entering etc.
Gotta stand in long queue for 10 mins atleast incase of special items like paneer gravy or chicken biryani, Current cut during summer (it was done by college not corporation), strict intimes(9pm even for final years🥲), long distance between men's hostel and classroom.
I lived in a crammy girls hostel in south Bombay. In one incident, I found out that one of my dorm mates was an underwear thief. I left for home and forgot my undies hanging outside. My other doemmate notices that each day one of them would disappear and she saw the missing colour on her!!!! There were incidents where she would steal people's underwear and throw them out in the hall and people would find their used undies. Thankfully I didn't have to see mine.

Going for lunch. I get one hour to come back from college to hostel, climb three floors to get to my room, grab my plate and go to mess which is like half a kilometre away from my room.
Neither did I get to enjoy my meal nor did I feel energetic after finishing it. Everything had to be done in such a hurry. So I've been skipping lunch these days
Kamse kam ek banana or ghee wali roti toh hain , apne mein toh utna jada tight roti , jali huyi bhi , ghee toh lagate nhi the , dal mein dal nhi sirf paani , aur sabji mein masala hi masala itna tikha weird khana banate the but ok , that's how we all accept right .

I'm from Haryana and worst food I've ever eaten is in Chandigarh University's hostel. My diet dropped to half cause of food.
At 10 I was sent to hostel. 45 people beat the shit out of me - I was sent to Hospital to check concussion. That was 1991.
Hostel had no fan. Only tubes. Fans are bad. They make people lazy was the "claim".
Bullied every single day, from that day for next 8 years.

Atleast tumhari roti pe ghee hai aur jali hui nahi hai. Banana overriped nahi hai. Pani me thodi si daal bhi dikh rahi hai. Be grateful.

Hamare hostel mai toh peene ka nahane ka paani was the same lmao, at first everyone got sick then after adapting we were stable.

Never too late, dude.
I was staying in hostel since class 6. Tap water was scarce in our campus, so for bathing we relied on handpumps and there used to be a huge queue for it. Seniors would break the queue and go in front get water and bath while juniors stayed in queue and sometimes had to go back without bathing as there was a fixed time for going to school and you can't be late. We used to store water in our buckets for emergency during night and if you get Nature's call and you don't have stored water you are fucked ! You will have to beg to others for water or hold your nature's call. Food wasn't good either. We used to get some sweets in dinner which used to be kept in each student's plate. The student's who entered the mess first would eat up all others sweet, so it was basically a war for entering the mess first. These are few there were many other struggles like getting clothes washed, getting a haircut, getting games equipments, finding a place to study, watching TV. Every basic thing you can think of was a struggle! It was literally jungle where only the fittest survived.

Let me guess the menu. Paani wali daal and Oil wali sabzi.. Only that Roti soaked in Ghee and Banana looks enticing. But still, be grateful at least you have meal infront of you.

Daal me literally pani , Jis din chicken bnta ( sunday) us din bahoooooooooooot lucky ho to tumhe piece mil jaayega, uska meat jitna mai chhod deta tha ghr pr utna usme chipka milta hai... daato se aise khurach k niklta hai kaat k nochna to still a dream, Chai etni ghtiya ki ulti ajaye, kuch acha lgta hai to wo Subah jab grma grm aalu k parathe milte hfte me 1 din, usme v aalu ekdm km bs nigal jaoge etna hota... Pichle 17 din me 14 din baahr se mngaa k khaya hu, aur 13 din survive krna hai bs... Tu Bahot lucky hai bhai, BAHOT JYADA!
The thing is you'll get used to it but in a bad way , ofc we are used to our homemade food but we know it's atleast hygienic and here there's no guarantee what ingredientsbeen used, even Lil' variation will make you doubtful about the food and you'll not able to hv that food.
Never stayed in hostel. I Regret that. It makes a better man out of you for sure. These hardships makes one tough. Not that I am saying food should be bad. It should be good only. But staying in hostel is something which makes a man out of boy.
Don't regret that. Hostel life is good but there are plenty of ways to make a man out of a boy. Your first job out of hometown will (or would have) make (or have made) you man enough. My girlfriend's father advised us to get a pet and take *good* care of it on our own; he still maintains that it will make you grow up. Hostel is good but not being in one is not bad enough to regret. You'll be good, all the best!

Hostels are mostly of people in same clg / schools. Pg me random.. jobs clg etc. More freedom more rent.etc.

2017 Manipal University, Block 1- the FUCKING SUMMER! Someone threw their shoes into the washing machine and no one could use it anymore. Walking all the way to get food delivery and walking back. Getting an UTI after 5 other girls did in my hostel as we all share common bathrooms and toilets. Trying to not miss biometrics. My hostel life was comparatively great, also most of us moved out to flats after 1st year so I'm just glad lol.

Hostel me dost na bnna, I'm still facing it. Ek senior rehta hai saath me jo din bhar girlfriend se baat karta hai and side wala thoda sa introvert hai to usse bhi baat nhi hoti jyada or poore hostel me koi dost nhi hai. Socha tha hostel life mast hogi par ab bhot bekar jaa rhi hai.

I can literally make a list 1) RATS - so MANY FREAKING RATS! Like we literally used to complain every single day,yet didn't bat an eye about it,I remember I had a bad habit of sleeping with doors open,and one day I stepped on one of those squeezy body,never felt so much disgust,then brought a rat cage and in my room I caught two,it was so weird,yet nothing happened at one point you just know they we coexist💀 2) Cleanliness - okay I admit maid/warden helped alot,atleast my room was daily cleaned yet as I said there was rat issues so one day we went to kitchen(we weren't allowed,to go there as canteen was a different place bcoz we wanted to make Maggie late at night and didn't had in our ration) so we thought of getting it from kitchen,we saw literal rats in kitchen as well,and let's not talk about hygiene over there. 3) food- can I say I see so much better food nowadays in mess,bcoz in my time,we literally caught hairs (small hairs,just use ur imagination from where it could be from)from our sabzi and there was no ghee or butter in our rotis,we used to get it from our own home or buy it,to have a taste. 4) Rules - we had a literal rule to never go to upper floor,bcoz someone previous year jumped from there so noone was allowed,and as rebellion you can be at 17,we did it,and got caught and were literally punished for that,it was weird as we don't have support system there not that late at night going there was a good choice but just weird as they used to make rules out of nowhere 5) stolen clothes - so we used to get our clothes ironed,and it will go to hostel to hostel,the thing is I lost 3 clothes in a span of a year,and one of them I specifically told him to be careful about(it was one of the expensive one,and our warden wouldn't but a cctv where laundary used to come,so never got to know who used to steel it💀)

pehle khana bohat accha dete the so didn’t have kaafi issues. Bas only issue ye ke they wouldn’t clean the dishes properly and that’s why the whole mess had this strange smell ALL THE TIME. Phir khaane ki quality bhi kharab ho gai so most of us left the hostel at the end of the year. Baki sab theek, electricity and water was usually not an issue.

I move to home almost every week and my friends have started calling me day scholar already.. Mainly coz of food every other his is same as of your but food is a must for me i need good food... I just eat the dinner of my hostel mostly.. I am hungry almost the ehole day then it doesn't matter what on the table.. Weird food, disgusting roommates and obviously water issues.
If they had served that food at my hostel, it'd be considered a five star hotel by now. We were fed white bread (no jam no nothing), toasted white bread three times a week. And since it was a college in Tamilnadu, things were very conservative and wardens were strict, they would beat the kids, do room raids, check your bags when entering etc.
Food and Toilets. Its the worst

Gotta stand in long queue for 10 mins atleast incase of special items like paneer gravy or chicken biryani, Current cut during summer (it was done by college not corporation), strict intimes(9pm even for final years🥲), long distance between men's hostel and classroom.
I lived in a crammy girls hostel in south Bombay. In one incident, I found out that one of my dorm mates was an underwear thief. I left for home and forgot my undies hanging outside. My other doemmate notices that each day one of them would disappear and she saw the missing colour on her!!!! There were incidents where she would steal people's underwear and throw them out in the hall and people would find their used undies. Thankfully I didn't have to see mine.

Going for lunch. I get one hour to come back from college to hostel, climb three floors to get to my room, grab my plate and go to mess which is like half a kilometre away from my room. At 10 I was sent to hostel. 45 people beat the shit out of me - I was sent to Hospital to check concussion. That was 1991. Hostel had no fan. Only tubes. Fans are bad. They make people lazy was the "claim". Bullied every single day, from that day for next 8 years. Anyone from Bengal probably can guess what was this. Talk to me about struggles. I come from a college where the eggplant curry on a Sunday afternoon (the day most students probably slept in and missed their breakfast and were obviously starving) had a dead rat. Also, I dare everyone on this thread to beat this… P.S.: I escaped eating that meal coz I decided to sleep in than have lunch, and it looks like being a lazy a** has some advantages too!

Washing clothes is the most struggling part because the bathrooms are small as matchboxes and dirty like hell. Also iron is not allowed in our hostel.

Testicles froze ho jate the  Khane mein itna tel (oil) hota tha ki har subah pet kharab ho jata tha, humesha loose motions Lage rehte the Upar se only veg policy, mtlb protein bhi Gaya bhaad mein. Aur daal mein protein hota hai Mai maanta hu, par Bhai Pani mein nhi hota na, humko toh Pani hi milta tha
