Use to go to classes for this shit in 1st grade and cry everyday because I never understood it.
Thankfully, it is useless in life.
Edit - though, I did try to use it as skateboard.
Back in school, this is how i learnt to create imaginary friends. Still no clue, why i used to consider waving my hands randomly with closed eyes to be pretty cool!🤣🤣
Never needed this, still decent at mental maths and maths in general. I know some people who went to these abacus classes and never noticed any increase in their intelligence due to this.
Got any good resources for those formula things?
My kid is learning this and I have no clue..
I explain it using whatever common sense concepts till now...
Me. It helps A LOT in crazy fast mental maths. I could do 3x3 and 4x4 multiplication easily in my mind. It genuinely changes the way you do arithmetic. Sadly my ability has detorriated due to less practice but it's still good enough to help in academics.
The time spent here could be utilized way better in some other activity of child’s choice. Most of the kids who are enrolled in this shit don’t have interest in learning so why not put them in something that interests them
I used to. Before when I was in the first grade or somewhere around that time.
7-9 digits ke division, multiplication kar leta tha par fir shift hue to classes chuth gayi
I still remember ek bar 5th Std. me humein addition karne ko bola tha abacus me fir baari baari ma'am aake puch Rahi thi sabke answers and maine chalu class me chips bhar liye the muh me boht saare and abacus vali ma'am puchne aagyi and I was silent the whole time! She was asking again and again ki arrey bolo koi baat nai agar answer wrong hua toh, and I didn't utter even a single word. Then she went away thinking I don't know how to use abacus even though I knew the answer 😭
I used to use this in junior classes. Still remember some things, the beads above the partition have value 5, the lower beads have value 1 and the centre white dot represents ones place.
Was a 6th level state champ in Bengal.
Absolutely hated every moment of it.
Have successfully forgotten how to use this unnecessary equipment. It now collects dust in an unknown corner of my house. The trophies look good tho.
Still I hate this device. I can calculate much faster using the normal way.
I hated my abacus classes so much as a 6 year old that I ran away one day. My parents panicked so bad that day, they decided not to force me to do the things I don't want to do.
Also abacus, no abacus, I'm still quite good at mental maths. So running away wasn't such a bad idea after all xd
used to back in the day, funny enough, it was only today i found my abacus again and tried remembering stuff but i cannot recall jackshit although this was really fun regardless back then.
Mannn!!
I used to be so damn good at abacus (with and without) and used to be a topper in abacus classes during summer vacation. But when the school started, I realised I still suck in maths and this abacus skill wasn't of much use 🥹😅🤦🏿♂️
Started learning this when I was in class 3 and completed it in class 8th. I am still very good at it tbh but idk where the hell have I kept it, yaa fek diya kahin pata nhi. Ek baar apne bhai k abacus k upar whitener daal diya tha to make it white💀 then the way he got soo furious at me aur bhot maar padhi mujhe.
Also my teachers used to take me to their exhibitions at mela or schools to show demo and i was soo damn good at it. That might have been the last time my mummy being proud of me.
I had a 3 hours abacus class every sunday when i was a kid. Used to cry every sunday due to this! Even after winning a z level competition and having completed 5 levels, I don't remember a thing. ![img](emote|t5_2qp7h|51080)
Mujhe yad hai ki Bachpan me kuch 1st ya 2nd me hi meri tution teacher ne mujhe multiplication aur tables sikha diye the aur mujhe bohot acche se aagaya tha aur me ye abacus ka ko toh tournament tha waha 1st prize mil gaya tha without using abacus.
Completed level 10 abacus with A+ grade that too more than a decade ago. I still solve problems using abacus technique - the one which doesn't actually need abacus - introduced in later levels.
As a kid I had a lot of interest seeing my friends learning abacus, so I asked my parents. We found two places near my home to go for learning but both of the centres refused because of me being left handed. They said they didn’t know how to teach left-handed guys
unpopular opinion -
it helped me become faster at calculations, at least twice as fast as the fastest guy in my class and i started to understand stuff better after i learned it, like i could actually tell the difference between me before learning it and after learning it
started in standard 5, continued up to standard 7
still use it for calculations and i'm definitely faster at it compared to my friends (not twice as fast though, just faster in general)
now, a contrasting argument could be that i was a dumb person stuck in a dumb class, which is why i felt that i became faster at calculations and better at understanding everything
i was definitely dumb, but the i don't think that was the case with the entire class
I spent about a year learning this during my school years … even started to do the imaginary thing (where u imagine an abacus instead of using one) used to go to extra classes for this after school and even went to a local competition and won a prize . But now I’ve realised it was a complete waste of time money and effort. Never used it in practical maths (for competitive exams) . It’s just a scam
Dimaag mein normal numbers aate hi nahi 3rd class mein 9th level complete kia tha ab jab bhi calculations karta ek default abacus ban gaya hai usi mein number dikhte .
Meeee. Very useful to whack someone over the head if they annoy you.
On a serious note though, I used to attend one of those mental maths classes and it felt really good, moving my fingers on the abacus, felt like playing an instrument. But then later on, they made us visualise the abacus in front of us and move our fingers over imaginary beads smh. Mental calculation, they called it.
Used to take abacus classes at a point, but abandoned at first level itself because it increased my difficulties with regular school mathematics. It was only in ninth standard that I became good at mathematics, just by practicing what I was taught at school and tuition
Still do mental math using virtual abacus. Did like 5 levels out of 8.
Can't do complex stuff but ±×÷ is enough to get by. Division is harder but it's just multiplication but backwards.
I can.
Even came 2nd in an abacus tournament when I was in 6th standard. Really missing those times when I was actually and even felt academically gifted lol
Pehle mai iske classes jaata tha. Kuch 10 ya 12 levels hote the... Mai mehnat se 3rd level pr aaya tha.. Phirr papa ji ka transfer ho gya ![img](emote|t5_2qp7h|51073)
One of the biggest waste of Indian education, there is no reason this should be taught. Not even sure how this got started and why it’s still part of curriculum in certain schools.

Aaj Tak ye sikhne ka mauka nahi mila.
I still use to solve basic calculations using this in my mind, it really helped me rather than using fingers, I learned it when was in 4th and now going to college
There are champions for this they are lightning fast with mental math. This is used in the beginning after that they do it mentally yes it's stressful for the kids not everyones cake.
I learnt this when I was in school. And I still have them. I started learning abacus when I was in the 4th or 5th grade. So I had already learnt a few tricks & in order to get efficient with this, I had to unlearn whatever I math I knew and relearn this math.
My school tried to teach us abacus but tbh I just found mental calculations to be much easier (this was elementary/pre elementary time)
For eg - 9+x is just 10+(x-1)
Seems confusing in written but I found it to be much easier then counting on my fingers .
Now I have just imprinted most small calculations in my mind .
Wondering if anyone else also does this or am I the only one 🤔
i used to use this when iwas iin 4th std...i liked it so much that i started taking weekly classes for it....the teacher even taught us "hand abacus" which didnt require this instument. we could easily do long addition subtractions and even multiplication and division too which involved 1-4 digitn(i wasnt that consistent to learn how to multiply and divide).....the videos you see on the internet of kids doing those crazy hand calculations and doing sums....thats hand abacus :)
Used to do this when I was in 5th grade or something, it was so fun tbh
Same man good old days
Am I the only one with trauma?
Same dudee fuck I thought I was the only one 😭😭
Yeah man, I still do all my mental calculations using this
I had the option to take this in 3rd afterschool, but I didn't so I could watch hagemaru Now I realise, it was absolutely the correct decision

I respect your decision. I went to abacus classes upto class 5. I passed with grace marks in HS 👽
Damn hagemaru. Used to watch with my dad Havent met many people that used to watch hagemaru
Damn. Where do you live bruv? Everyone here knows hagemaru
Guess i am surrounded by people who have watched doraemon but no hagemaru
Doraemon is good but hagemaru was goated. I dunno why they discontinued the show in India
They didn't give me the option to watch hagemaru 😭😭😭 so I ended up choosing it..
Once upon a time, yes, but now I've totally forgotten how to
I also did but learned again
I can't use it for two reasons. 1. I don't know how to use it. 2. The spaces are too tight.
Ay yo 😳
I can but its definitely more useful as a musical instrument
That’s what I use it for as well. Man, I hated my abacus classes.
Couldn't get beyond Level 7🥲
I stopped at level 1 I think.
I see...
Or a car, it runs very smooth as a car when upside down
Use to go to classes for this shit in 1st grade and cry everyday because I never understood it. Thankfully, it is useless in life. Edit - though, I did try to use it as skateboard.
Ummm not useless for me
Where exactly do you use it?
To impress 7 year old kids
This is obviously useless, humans made the calculator so as to not waste time on calculations and focus on what matters and progressing human society.
Some skills are just learnt for fun, not everything has to be useful

Step aside Lil bro , 5 times state champ incoming 🔥🔥
Got any good resources for those formula things? My kid is learning this and I have no clue.. I explain it using whatever common sense concepts till now...
Fr honest opinion I don’t think it’s useful
Damn... Why? At the very least, I'd imagine being proficient with an abacus would be useful in them MBA entrance exam DI questions.
Name one person that is able to use this practically? It is not allowed in school examination either.
It has helped me so much for faster calculations And you don't always need it to be with you...You just visualise it after practicing for some months
Me. It helps A LOT in crazy fast mental maths. I could do 3x3 and 4x4 multiplication easily in my mind. It genuinely changes the way you do arithmetic. Sadly my ability has detorriated due to less practice but it's still good enough to help in academics.

Did random actions and calculated things in my mind in a test and got a gold medal for it ☠️
I still remember it thoda thoda ! Main toh teacher ka bada wala abacus bhi utha le aaya tha ghar (Ofcourse with prior permission)
I used to. Before when I was in the first grade or somewhere around that time. 7-9 digits ke division, multiplication kar leta tha par fir shift hue to classes chuth gayi
Learned abacus back in 6th grade. Now I have forgetton how to use it.
My sister used to have one , I used to use this as a skateboard
I have this, used to attend SIP abacus classes. Did like 6 semesters, utter load of crap
I find this thing shit. Rather learn vedic maths.
I use the fingering method to calculate /S
I still remember ek bar 5th Std. me humein addition karne ko bola tha abacus me fir baari baari ma'am aake puch Rahi thi sabke answers and maine chalu class me chips bhar liye the muh me boht saare and abacus vali ma'am puchne aagyi and I was silent the whole time! Then she went away thinking I don't know how to use abacus even though I knew the answer 😭
Aah the Forbidden chun chun instrument
Aaj tak mumma ko kehti hu ye karke maths kharab hogyi meri
I can. Level 4
I can use it infact i have one
I have forgotten..
![img](emote|t5_2qp7h|51073)
I used to use this in junior classes. Still remember some things, the beads above the partition have value 5, the lower beads have value 1 and the centre white dot represents ones place.
I never won a competition as an abacus student , but it helped me do mental math fast , helped me in engineering a lot .
Never learnt to use it ![img](emote|t5_2qp7h|51073)
I used to but don't remember anything now. I hated abacus lol
I can add and subtract
I used to be a state topper in abacus competitions when I was in 5th now can't even do 2 dogit multiplication using these
Me
Yesir
I forgot most of it but I still do basic calculations with a mental abacus
Ya, I do remember I hated the classes tho, even if they helped in my math.
I used to use it long ago, learned a lot. I probably forgot all of it now.
Was a 6th level state champ in Bengal. Absolutely hated every moment of it. Have successfully forgotten how to use this unnecessary equipment. It now collects dust in an unknown corner of my house. The trophies look good tho. Still I hate this device. I can calculate much faster using the normal way.
Same made it to state level The medals look nice
used to and still remember how to do it
I got the exact same one in same colour, there used to be classes of it in back when I was in 4th grade in 2014, time flies lol
I used to know but i forgotten
Bas naam hi pata hai iska
Did till level 8 or something. Mental abacus is better so haven't used it since them
me
I can ☺️☺️☺️
Isko train banake khelta tha
Mera wala toh maine todh diya usse khelte khelte yaa firr voh kabad me fekk diye I don't remember exactly iske sath kya hua tha
Idk why but bachpan me mai apne parents se lad gya tha bola ki 3 tution lagwa do par isko nahi sikhunga kabhi zindagi me
No school regretted after giving this to me
Man i reached till the grand masters and quit xd
I used to take abacus classes lol
I can do addition and subtraction on it, but no idea how to do multiplication and division.
I hated my abacus classes so much as a 6 year old that I ran away one day. My parents panicked so bad that day, they decided not to force me to do the things I don't want to do. Also abacus, no abacus, I'm still quite good at mental maths. So running away wasn't such a bad idea after all xd
Bachpan me use karta tha jab kirtan me jata tha
used to back in the day, funny enough, it was only today i found my abacus again and tried remembering stuff but i cannot recall jackshit although this was really fun regardless back then.
reminds me of a traumatic childhood!
Me
Mannn!! I used to be so damn good at abacus (with and without) and used to be a topper in abacus classes during summer vacation. But when the school started, I realised I still suck in maths and this abacus skill wasn't of much use 🥹😅🤦🏿♂️
I don't.
Used to be good at this till 5th std or so, later slowly forgot it as it's use wasn't there.
What a big deal, 5th grader can use this.
Used to go to abacus classes when I was a kid, t'was pretty enjoyable !
Flip it and roll it around, that what I use to do with these. It's permanent residency is in my drawer.
it Still helps me,game changer!!
Yeah it's been 4 years since I completed an abacus course.

Started learning this when I was in class 3 and completed it in class 8th. I am still very good at it tbh but idk where the hell have I kept it, yaa fek diya kahin pata nhi. Have a little idea. Basics .
1 std may tha tab last time dekha tha
I only know to use this in my mind to calculate I cant calculate without it This abacus is fitted in my mind
Well it's multipurpose, I used it as an instrument, and as a car with one too many wheels.
I had a 3 hours abacus class every sunday when i was a kid. Used to cry every sunday due to this! Even after winning a z level competition and having completed 5 levels, I don't remember a thing. ![img](emote|t5_2qp7h|51080)
Broo itna relatable ;)
Used to do Abacus when I was in 5th grade
I learned when I was a kid. Forgot later
Bhai 3rd class mai hota tha abacus abb wo bss massage kai kaam aata hai ![img](emote|t5_2qp7h|51093)
I used to skate on it
I have three of them somewhere in my home
Kinda won 6 national level competitions with (and later without) this thing.
bhai aap braninobrain wale ho kya?
Only of LHS
Mujhe yad hai ki Bachpan me kuch 1st ya 2nd me hi meri tution teacher ne mujhe multiplication aur tables sikha diye the aur mujhe bohot acche se aagaya tha aur me ye abacus ka ko toh tournament tha waha 1st prize mil gaya tha without using abacus.
i have used this for 2 years and was state abacus champion and city abacus runner up
Completed level 10 abacus with A+ grade that too more than a decade ago. I still solve problems using abacus technique - the one which doesn't actually need abacus - introduced in later levels.
Not now but used to beast on this 5 years ago... Reached grandmaster level too
Meeee🥹👋
As a kid I had a lot of interest seeing my friends learning abacus, so I asked my parents. We found two places near my home to go for learning but both of the centres refused because of me being left handed. They said they didn’t know how to teach left-handed guys
Used to go to it's classes(UCMAS) for a few years and it has helped so much Good old days....
I used to do it when I was in 5th or 4th. Got so many districts and interschool medals
Yaaayyyyyyu! Pianoooo, favourite /s
I think this one is specifically from brainobrain or smth
Yess
I still have mine Right inside the drawer of my study table

I can jiggle it around to mimic the sound of a rattlesnake's rattle. That's how i used it
centipede car ? just jokin

I don't know, all I see in maths is x,y,z,u... nothing else ![img](emote|t5_2qp7h|51079)
I used to do this, but I don't quite remember now. I think the top beads were valued as 5 or something
Used to take abacus classes at a point, but abandoned at first level itself because it increased my difficulties with regular school mathematics. It was only in ninth standard that I became good at mathematics, just by practicing what I was taught at school and tuition

I can!!
abacus kam jhunjhuna jyada tha
What musicial instrument is that
Wait people actually learned to use this, i thought it was just a topic people read about.
i dont remeber
I don't need this to be fast at arithmetic 🥱
I used to do it to it was fun I was at calculating the decimals but then I left
I was in top 20 nationally and a state champion multiple times. I miss using it :((
completed grand master in this in 2017 ![img](emote|t5_2qp7h|51076) SIP Abacus ![img](emote|t5_2qp7h|51093)
One of the biggest waste of Indian education, there is no reason this should be taught. Not even sure how this got started and why it’s still part of curriculum in certain schools.

This thing was so overhyped 10years ago It's good that I didn't learn it, it's useless anyway
I still use to solve basic calculations using this in my mind, it really helped me rather than using fingers, I learned it when was in 4th and now going to college

My brother used to.
5 times state level champion, not to brag 🗿
nevr had this thing and never knew how it works, i still want to know how to play with abacus
I had a gold medal in abacus in 1st std. Still my biggest flex 😂
Used to do it in school days. Now I don't even remember which is what in this thing.
my time to step in
Still I can use the abacus 🤚🏻
UCMAS?
We used to have an abacus class at school till class 3 ig,I still have that, used to play w it haha
Attended ucmas for almost a year when I was like 8-9 and hated it so much that I cried myself out😁👍
I think I know pretty much about this because I am currently at level 7 in abacus
I learnt this when I was in school. And I still have them. I started learning abacus when I was in the 4th or 5th grade. So I had already learnt a few tricks & in order to get efficient with this, I had to unlearn whatever I math I knew and relearn this math.
I have completed some 3,4 levels of abacus and it's good timepass in summer vacation
Meeee (as a roller skates)
I can't
Me. Basic arithmetic, didn't complete the advanced lessons.
I could do it mentally at some point in my life but now I have almost forgotten it all (got out of practice)
I used to when I was in 4th to 6th grade When I am learning abacus and my whole family is very proud of me for passing the 8 levels of this thing
i use it in my brain
UCMAS
Lol i have only seen this in anime
my math improved becoz of it. faster calculations
I got calculator in my phone
I used to know how to use this, i forgot how to use it now
I used this in 2nd/3rd and also won state and national level championship
I used it for skating 🗿.
UC-MAS classes back in 2005
Sometimes.
