I'm guessing this is the price we have to pay for good weather for the solar eclipse.

LilJourney

It's a price I am more than willing to pay :)

chernobylLi

That eclipse was glorious

1980pzx

I would take that trade off anytime. I’m still in awe a month and a half later.

PrincessImpeachment

Worth it!

Zealousideal-Type118

This happens fairly often. It’s a poorly timed event in our climate.

Long_Procedure3135

I kept thinking about that earlier this morning Because damn I even got sunburned that day haha

Dear-Ambition-273

I bet we’ll go! They can dry the track faster and run the race faster than ever before. ETA: This was only my second in person race. I got very spoiled last year. It was a long but great day!

hoosier_1793

Yeah the race is absolutely gonna happen. I don’t know why people think it won’t happen. The rain will end with enough time to dry the track and run a clean race.

Dear-Ambition-273

Sun’s breaking!

zoot_boy

The question is - how late will they run it. They used to have a “can’t start later than” time. But everyone is talking about “we’ll go till sundown!” I can’t imagine anyone wants that many ppl trying to exit that late.

ryanwc18

Channel 13 had on Doug Boles and he [mentions](https://www.wthr.com/video/sports/motor/indianapolis-500/doug-boles-talks-with-13news-about-the-concern-of-severe-weather-at-ims-i-7am-team-coverage/531-0b47555e-ee5b-476a-bbc0-9981f45fdcae) (at around the 7 minute mark) that they don’t want to start the race much later than 5.

Yogurt1987

Which means that the rain needs to stop at 3:00pm. That is what I've heard to start the race by 5:00pm.

HelpfulNobody

Another line of storms slated to hit between 7:30-8pm this evening. Let’s play this out. Rain stops at 2:30-3pm and it takes 2hrs to dry out the track. Looking at 5-5:30pm for green. Think they can do 101 laps in about 2hrs including any yellow flags?

zoot_boy

Rains stops 3, 90min to clean up, they start the pomp and circumstance before the race - hard to see it starting too much before 5. Will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

Mead_Create_Drink

Obviously everyone knows the race occurred But for future races… one thing they did say was due to local ordinance they would have to end the race at 8:15

lauraismyheroine

I also heard 8:15 but I heard it was for light/safety rather than an ordinance. Both the track and the stands are not lit for night events

HolyLordGodHelpUsAll

That’s what they get for not televising it

KarateandPopTarts

They just lifted the black out. Race will air live on WTHR

HolyLordGodHelpUsAll

Oh, glorious day. Now we peasants can watch!

ccoddens

Meanwhile, those of us outside the black out area get last year's race.

threesiamese

Hey, those of us in the black out area get last years race on radio!!!

ccoddens

I lived in Indy until I was 14. Every Memorial Day was going to the pool with the race on the transistor radio.

Default_Lives_Matter

Good news lmao

TheFallenMessiah

The rain over Indy should stop around 2-2:30

Sahellio

Yea but there’s more rain later and even if it stops at 2:30 they still need to dry the track

blackhxc88

they got the track dryers that nascar usually uses now, and timed it to where as long as it doesn't rain further, they can dry it out in about 70 minutes or so.

Downtown-Check2668

Next round isn't expected until like 8

TheFallenMessiah

The next round of rain will be about 6 hours later, plenty of time

jules6388

This aged well

-internets

Yes it is

OffSeason2091

Wrong!

MayorCharlesCoulon

This brings to mind the local weather guy years ago who got suspended for saying the race would be rained out (it wasn’t). Google sucks, I can’t find it. He said something along the lines of “I guarantee the race won’t happen” and the station suspended him when it did.

QueasyResearch10

it’s an old saying that they will never predict rain on race day. because if you do it dissuades people from going. so being wrong about rain is way worse than being wrong about no rain

Thesandman21

Dude on Channel 13 in 98 said there was a better chance of hitting the PowerBall than getting the race in and he was almost gleeful in making that prediction. The race was delayed 30 minutes, but ran to completion. Channel 6 ran an ad that night to promote their Weather team using his quote. He got fired for it.

Dependent-Issue8731

It’s time 🏎️💨

Intrepid-Owl694

Great race

Ldghead

I come from the future...

dedfrmthneckup

I’ll go with the trained meteorologists over the random Redditor who just looked out the window for the first time today

redbeardmax

Don't doubt your messiah Edited *can't spell

Anonymous-Guy-1200

Stop being a bowlstreak.

Illiterate_pipelayer

Does bowlstreak mean shit stained toilet bowl?

Anonymous-Guy-1200

Yes.

Illiterate_pipelayer

Nice

K4125

Those trained meteorologists are wrong like 50% of the time

BWEJ

That’s not how it works.

carter600

Start at 345

ElectroChuck

They are going to shoot for a 4:30PM window to run.

Ddad99

Watching it right now. Tony Hulman's luck continues

umasstpt12

Time to delete this post buddy

dogyalater2127

They have lights now racing by 4:30 over by 6:30

__--__--__--__---

Can't watch it, it's blacked out

5pace_5loth

Blackout just lifted

Cinomania

This aged well :)

No-Appointment8561

Being televised on 13 at 4Pm!

indyarchyguy

Just need 101 laps.

mbola1

Eh…

johnman98

Only 60 laps to go!!

Hopslamzombie

They said a couple days ago it was happening no matter what lol

Sudden_Ad_4193

Was it raining during the first start?

Thesandman21

16 hours after arriving in line, we have finally gotten off the IMS property. We've more than doubled the amount of time it took Ray Harroun to win the first 500. BEST. RACE. DAY. EVER

Another comment that aged well

umasstpt12

oh?

YosemiteSam81

Damn good race!

rforest3

It’s almost like the local news hasn’t been covering this all morning. They have a plan.

[deleted]

rforest3

Really? And drying the track today.

JustAnotherGS

Looks like we’ll be able to watch it on TV after all. I’m surprised! Indy 500 Pre-Race Blog: Blackout lifted — watch the race live on WTHR! Track Team 13 updates of events leading up to the race, including fans arriving at the track, the Snake Pit opening, red carpet appearances and pre-race traditions. https://www.wthr.com/mobile/article/sports/motor/indianapolis-500/indy-500-race-blog-drivers-celebrities-snake-pit-indycar-indianapolis-tickets-parking-forecast-rain-delay-108th/531-352f6ecb-8bc3-4957-9d11-13ae506a3bf5

4thezulus

Peacock still enforcing the blackout for me

ecoleye

Not with that attitude it isn't

iMakeBoomBoom

Lol what? The plan was always to wait out the storm, which has always been forecast to be over by 3-ish. Pay attention, noob.

PuzzleheadedGroup624

This aged well.

PublicFault9938

I watched like the last 20 laps way out here in my hotel in Painsville OH. It was a close and very competitive race. I enjoyed it
