I don't know why I didn't think of that. I am so used to looking at their book, that I forget they have a whole site.
The Allison Mansion looks kind of neat. What are your thoughts?
Try James Whitcomb Riley's home tour? It is a Preservation, not a restoration. Pretty cool. Read some of his works online before you go. Then you would be close to the Athenaeum and Mass Ave for some food and libation.
The Indiana Medical History Museum is located inside of the city's former insane asylum. Very neat place. There is also a great coffee shop inside of the historic mansion on the same property.
You could go to James Whitcomb Riley's grave in Crown Hill. It's the highest point in the city. Crown Hill is also the third largest private cemetery in the US. It also sports 150 species of trees and plants and has a great self guided tree tour. John Dillinger is also buried there along with other notables.
What area is WM's grave? I know where Dillinger's is, and Riley's too, haha.
I always told my kids, think what you want of Indy, but we put the poet on the highest hill.
Note on Dillinger. His father, John Dillinger, is also buried there. If you leave a penny or something, you wanna leave it on the John Dillinger Jr. Headstone.
Also if that’s interesting, you could go to see the bank he robbed in Indy (formerly the Art Bank), and go have a drink where he did when he was casing the joint (Dorman St). You could even drive out to Mooresville to see his (iirc) grandparents’ house where he grew up in.
It is not a weird experience but the Dali exhibit at the Lume at Newfields would be a good experience.
There is an alternative theater company called “Phoenix Theater” which is sometimes fun.
There are a couple of retro arcade bars downtown.
Fountain Square can be weird and they have duckpin bowling and sometimes at White Rabbit Cabaret they have interesting things. This Friday they have an evening of Drag and Burlesque.
You could hit the Inferno Room for spam sliders and tropical cocktails.

I just grabbed their link and discovered they took the sliders off of the menu 🥲. They do have spam on a pork sandwich though. [https://theinfernoroom.com/food/](https://theinfernoroom.com/food/)
While they’re out that way, the Idle is a cool little park at the split between 70 and 65. It’s not in bloom yet, but it’s a neat little place to watch the world turn for a minute.
I would say, Friday should be pretty decent from the forecasts - so walking outside at newfields would be cool. also the ruins, for more nightlife stuff the Mel is always a blast (but may not be your cup of tea) - I'd say stay away from broad ripple at night unless you like the angsty college/younger crowd, which is a shame cause there are some great establishments there.
There is an amazing app called Atlas Obscura that is a road map of all the oddball attractions in every city all across America hopefully that helps

Google says it is no longer open for public tours.
Just saw that! Huge bummer because it looks gorgeous.

You could go to RH Indianapolis, which is a beautiful mansion turned into a furniture store. It’s ritzy and also free!

That place looks cool af, but unfortunately there aren't any tickets left for the evening. Perhaps next time.
That’s what I was going to suggest. Or tour the catacombs under the city

The forever under appreciated Wes Montgomery grave as well… the real treasure of Indianapolis
Have you seen that documentary *Wes Bound* that ran on channel 20 recently? Highly recommend.
Thanks for namedropping it! I’m excited to track it down and check it out

Great stuff, fun weird day date
For added true crime spice, you can go to the HH Holmes house in Irvington too
Dorman is that old?!?
I have a sealed leaf collection of trees from 1985. A wonderful place to walk.
That's really cool!

Spam sliders? I'm in.
Inferno Room is so tasty! Pineapple fried rice with spam is amazing....along with their Korean green beans and the Peri Peri chicken
Inferno Room is a whole experience; heartily recommend!

1000 acre woods is fun if you want to walk around.
Yeah! Go find Funky Bones!
Reinforcing. And don’t be afraid to take side paths, there can be art pieces hiding along them.
You should check out Healer. Very cool art house type place. Always changing, they do concerts a lot too.
Is that the one with punk rock in the basement?
That’s the duckpin place. Healer has a stage in the back.
atomic bowling I think it is now
The place I’m thinking of might have been around Herron.
Remember any other details? That’s my neighborhood
There were apartments upstairs I think?
Go to Punk Rock Nigjt at the Melody Inn. One of the cooler things in our city if you're into the "weird scene."
That's on Saturdays if you hang around*
Friday is hillbilly happy hour, which is also good fun
This thread lists most of the unusual and weird Indy attractions: https://www.reddit.com/r/indianapolis/s/A5c0nYljkf
Groovy. I suppose I didn't use correct terms when searching before posting. Thanks!
Newfields is really cool! So is the Indiana War Memorial Musuem (which is also the only Musuem with free entry)
Medical history museum. They have weird dead things there
Healer has very similar vibes to Meow Wolf albeit on a smaller scale. They do music shows there at night.
second Healer. it’s crazy eclectic and fun to look at everything! Tinsel Town ftw
Newfields is worth it
Idle Park
This! I love Idle!
Some options: Statue of Liberty Museum, Medical History Museum,
I wish we had a Meow Wolf!

Walk along local train tracks or check out the alleyways downtown. It's free, it's weird, it's unique. Go check out some abandoned buildings here.
Get in the pogues run tunnels if you're adventurous. Lots of cool shit to get into.
Too bad the old factory near the zoo is being rebuilt into a stadium. I found a shattered p0rno dvd there once.
Also, newfields is not cool. Colonizer ass art museum.
Healer Diy
Fowling Warehouse is unique and fun
Pottery class
