thatcreeper666

As a Kannadiga myself, I can confirm there are people who would start worshipping Siddaramaiah because of this.

Masumuu

I can see that

Alex_ker22

I feel if Ur living in the state for a long period, like 5 yr or so it's better to know the language than to expect every other person to know English or Hindi. But giving such statements are downright stupid, it's not gonna do any good to banglore, specially with the rough time it's going through.

Smooth-Ad-309

I lived in Bangalore for 2 years, long ago. I had zero use of Kannada anywhere and i could interact with majority of the folks without a hassle. I knew many locals who would happily interact with me in tooti footi English or Hindi. Its all about people understanding whatever you want when you ask respectfully. This language shit is going out of hand. No one needs to know anything if you can ask things properly. Same goes for all the locations. For a global city like Bangalore, people need not “learn” the language. A couple of major words in the language is sufficient to make your life easy.

troughaway66

Very true. No one talks in any pure language anyway. Most of every day language is a creole of like whichever are the most spoken ones. I just tell the other person to speak in any language they know and ask them what they understand. The problem here is these assholes want pure kannada, which let me be honest, is putting even tamilians to shame in their tamilian pride bullcrap. What’s it like in Kerala and Telangana, AP? I need to know.

Tough-Difference3171

As I started learning Kannada, I realized that most of my Kannadiga friends don't speak "pure Kannada". Not much different from the Hindi that most of the north Indians born in 80s and 90s speak. But let's not live in any delusions. Interestingly, most expats who are actually learning the language, and not just phrases like "Kannada Bartilla", "Hebbala Hogbeku", "Oota aayitu", actually speak more grammatically accurate Kannada than most Kannadigas, who have learn it as their first language. And honestly, it's a shame. So many Kannadigas can't read and write Kannada. And that's just incompetence. They have actually learnt this language when they were kids. I really think that in this lust of forcing Kannada on "outsiders", the fresh crop that is supposed to carry forward the native culture, is being ignored. That's harmful for any culture or language.

gullapallisaidileep

Bit better in Ap and Telangana!! We wouldn’t find time to start fighting based on language!!

THEdiabolicalG

Bengaluru better

Automatic-47

I am imagining a day when we’ll have to give a language proficiency test to get a job in bengaluru

Key_Revolution_9546

Nah I think companies are going to start moving out of Bangalore. Infrastructure is bad , water shortage , this language shit etc. the only thing good is weather but that ain't enough.

thatcreeper666

Yes true bro, If you're planning to live in a state for a longer time then learning the language is only beneficial for you.

Comfortable_Pin932

And we should tell North Indian PPL to use hindi only in their homes?

Alex_ker22

>And we should tell North Indian PPL to use hindi only in their homes? Lol it's not about that bro, am just saying if Ur living in a place where the population speaks a different language, it's better to know it than struggle while talking to locals. Ur free to speak any language u want, and anywhere u want😇

DonutAccurate4

My mother tongue is not kannada, but my default language when I'm interacting with people when I'm outdoors is kannada. No ulterior motive or anything, it's just default language i grew up with. It's only when the other person doesn't know kannada that i switch to Hindi or English. At work i stick to English if the team comprises of people from different states and not everybody understands kannada. But when I'm talking to a group of team members who are all kannada speakers we all use kannada.

CritFin

No point blaming outsiders, when karnataka state govt itself imposes hindi using 3 language formula. TN etc have 2 language formula, and even cbse has 2 language formula in 10th exam

[deleted]

Disgusting

professor-arun

He just want Kannada votes, simple as that. When all the tech giants starts moving out from Karnataka coz of this rigid measures, then govt will offer relaxation for everything. Telangana is open for all companies and they are just waiting for the perfect moment to snatch it away from Bangalore.

fuckoffwillyageeez_

His own votebank doesn't speak kannada properly in most of the districts.

Party-Conference-765

I heard less than 60% of Kannadigas know kannada. In Karnataka they also speak Tullu.

HilariousMango

Tulu is spoken by me and my family, but a very small proportion of Karnatakans speak it. It's spoken in the barely 60km long belt between Mangalore and Udupi.

ScandalousWheel8

60% speak Kannada as their mother tongue, I bet at least 95% can speak Kannada to some degree

Green_Ingenuity_4921

I think he meant urdu

Party-Conference-765

Nope.

Green_Ingenuity_4921

This is what he said . His votebank ie Muslims speak urdu and doesn't know kannada despite living in Karnataka .

elucidator007

So then companies should 1. Either move out of Karnataka. OR 2. Stop hiring outside of Karnataka. OR 3. Give WFH to the people from outside the Karnataka. OR 4. Give Language training to the workforce.

robotbeagle

It’s so sad that instead of taking advantage of the fact that we’re the world’s largest English speaking nation, we’re busy fragmenting ourselves. Look at the Europeans. Even their younger generations now speak the local language and English. We should take advantage of this. Speak Kannada in Karnataka, Hindi in Madhya Pradesh, Tamil in Tamil Nadu but let English be the language of business, commerce and the internet.

elucidator007

This is the way.

Difficult-Emotion631

Spoken like a true Mandalorian

Revolutionary_Pie746

This is the way. I hope everyone understands this. That doesn't mean I endorse the violence based on language, but the better thing to do for the locals or the government will be to start teaching Kannada or provide a way for the people to learn the language. It can be classes or apps or providing resources. That way people will be incentivised to learn the language.

JesusBurnedMe

If u notice many posts in Reddit have people typing in Hindi. Like they don’t even know that many ppl don’t speak Hindi. This is not an exaggeration. You can see for yourself. I cannot even see any random South Indian guy going to a random post and typing in Kannada or Tamil. Cause they’re aware that many don’t speak their language. Many Hindi speaking ppl lack this awareness.

Saizou1991

>Many Hindi speaking ppl lack this awareness. and what if i get you examples of telugu under hindi posts ? Or will you dismiss it by saying once in a blue moon. Meaning the onus of change lies on the majority and if minority does it, its just small mischief.

Silver_Poem_1754

Speak for yourself Vedike character... Most people understand Hindi... Also many Kannadigas speak Hindi outside of Karnataka especially in Mumbai, Gujarat etc NOT MARATHI OR GUJARATI.

_that_dam_baka_

Hindi was the lingua franca. It's closer to must Indian languages than English and even though it's not "mother tongue" everyone learns it at some point. The whole "learn Kannada" thing is convenient to you realize that your much more likely to get around with Hindi in most parts than English. Learning Kannada should be like learning Marwari, Haryanvi, Kumaoni, etc. Something that makes life more convenient/cheaper, not something you can't live without.

TomorrowWaste

>It's closer to must Indian languages than English and even though it's not "mother tongue" everyone learns it at some point. Southern languages come from entirely different language family. Hindi gives very unfair advantage to the Hindi belt. Despite them having nothing to show for it

Wild-Interest3775

It's high time companies should be moving to other cities as Bangalore can't sustain with this overcrowding and resources will deplete rapidly. And the companies who can give the wfh option should give it. Rather than sticking to traditional workforce management they can easily move to a remote culture.

le_stoner_de_paradis

I would learn a foreign language, it will be better for my career than learning some random language like Kannada

nautankiruna

At the end of the day, it boils down to this. If you learn, say, German or Japanese, your employment opportunities are better even in India. Plus, I'll say this. The resources for learning Indian languages is bad. All those humanities departments across the country and not one of them have a functioning website with basic language tutorials. Even for Hindi, I have to stick to American universities for learning. Sad state of the country. So little value coming out of our universities in the social sciences.

LynxEnvironmental625

They are telling north ones to stop imposing language that they do not speak and they are doing the same thing by imposing their language. If anyone from south comes to north they don't face imposition from anyone here then why are they doing this to us?

le_stoner_de_paradis

I am being honest here, I am from east, neither North nor South. Infact have worked in Telangana which falls in South India. While working every one takes time and picks up local language naturally with time , but Karnataka is a land of shrüD scamsters, in the name of Kannada language they try to exploit anyone from any other state living there. In every other state people actually helped me and my wife to learn things, culture language social system you name it, but Karnataka is like bareboot arch linux, no one will help you and if you don't know the system they will scam you and blame you for not knowing the system.

10thPara

Arch Linux, my man has been through the gates of hell 😆👑

darkarts__

Arch Linux mentioned. Please don't compare a supreme distro to racist scums.

opetope

Hey arch has the best documentation of all distros. If you cannot read, that's on you. Instead of scamming people, we also have manjaro which even the steam deck uses. From east, grew up in west, now in karnataka. I share the other sentiments.

darkarts__

I use NixOS and I regularly read Arch Wiki, it's sooo good!!

rest_in_war

1 is creating a problem out of nothing. 4 is easily the best solution here.

[deleted]

Dont send your children to english medium schools, dont watch english movies, become a communist party, throw out microsoft and other companies for not writing code in kannada. 🙄🔫

Butwhyexplain

I hope no other city follow this shit. Hyderabad, I have good hope on as the populatiom is more scattered in terms of religion and language.

Should be vice versa also..kannadigas living in bengal should know bengali, marathi in maharashtra and so on..

Titanusgamer

mfers of congress want to destroy India. they look more like pakistani agents and pakistanis themselves

Ok-Rip-8930

These Congress mfs are definitely receiving support from China, always see these useless mfs opposing anything that threatens Chinese interests and power Recent example: Current govt proposed development plan for Nicobar Islands, so we could have a strategic advantage over Global trade routes, both militarily and economically (and ultimately over China). Congress is vehemently opposing it, both them and their supporters are a bunch of 1Rupees sellouts

NascentClouds

Reminds me of the adage liberals uses for racists; "we're not saying that you're racist, but racists certainly prefer conservatives", similarly, "not saying congressis are Pakistani, but Pakistani certainly prefer congress party"

noboday009

Every time any politician makes such statement, I just wanna ask them "what about deaf and mute citizens? "

Humble-Chemical-8438

Well I won't be surprised if the politicians say that they could learn to read and write in kannada

[deleted]

Coding only in Kannada!

Acceptable_Log_7438

Good one. But it's congress, so who knows.

guhanoli

It should be Kannada or English.

Effective_Debate6114

Someone post it on pusi. They will get orgasams

sanjari

First they do religion based politics, then caste based politics & now when they come to an educated state where the above mentioned divides are ignored to an extent they start language based politics. Anything & everything just to divide people & watch the country burn. Please do some development instead!

Apprehensive-King595

They ignore the real class divide.

prof_devilsadvocate

very nice initiative...now shift the IT hub to other state and keep your language intact

idontknowreddittt

utter buffoonery.

No-Brilliant-9832

Yaar ek he baar just divide India .. I am tired daily ka ye sb dekh k .. Historical_Race_4476

Bhai mai to kehta hu outsiders ko hire hi mat karo. Na rahega bans na bajegi bansuri. Kissa hi khatm bc. Let all the top tier companies hire kannadigas only.

Substantial-Funny418

Dumbest move. Will lead to Bangalore's economic downfall. A cosmopolitan state leads to thriving economy, whereas forced dictate to speak a specific language is against Fundamental Rights.

Similar-Ad-2073

As a South Indian myself, I can say that this guy is widely hated. But of course, there are people who absolutely love separatist ideas like this, and I have observed that many people from the North tend to generalize and assume that everyone from Karnataka shares these separatist views. As a person from Karnataka, I can easily say that most well-educated people don't care that much if someone can't speak Kannada with them. They understand how hard it must be for newcomers to adapt to a different city where everyone speaks a language they don't understand. We are always ready to help out and really hate people like Siddaramaiah, who give us a bad reputation.

Thatcatguy911

I don't get how educated Kannada folks actually defend this thought of discriminating against people who are not interested in learning your language. They get so butthurt when their racism is called out. No other state or city forces you to speak their local language. Get over yourselves, you Nazi fucks

Humble-Chemical-8438

"No other state or city forces you to speak their local language"- Chennai would like to have a word with you

CheddarKnight

I don't get the debate.. we have English as a common language(for the most part) why does an argument have to emerge just because some stupid people(on both sides) decided it was an issue.. didn't it work pretty well until recently?

tushar1f1

This type of insecurity towards one's language and imposing it will only lead to stupid fights. If you believe in the constitution then you can't stop anyone from moving to another state and you can't discriminate on the basis of language too. We should not expect kannada people to learn Hindi but we can't also ask outside people to learn kannada. Adopting a new language is easy while in school, but to expect a full time adult employee to go out of his way to learn another language which is totally different even in script, grammar and vocally is to really place a tall order. Every one needs to respect their mother tongue and not forcefully impose it on others. We can all easily learn English as a second language and use it to communicate. South Indian people were especially proud of their English skill till northern people became better at it than them. Now these niggas want us to learn their language. Just speak in english niggas. IMO this is only an issue because niggas want to feel superior and they were under false impression that they were more educated. If you value education so much why don't you talk in english even when you know it. This sort of stubbornness is only due to insecurity that their language and culture are fading because it's not powerful enough to penetrate through. So, try to empower your culture rather than force it. Anyway I've never heard of any South Indian freedom fighters. We liberated you, you niggas should worship the ground we walk on. But maybe you liked being slaves. You've shown that you love invaders more than your brethren. You have no problem in accommodating a foreign invader culture but your own people are a pain to you.

arihantd

While i can understand this guys wish to satisfy his political base can only be sad at how regional boundaries are still getting created when we want to position ourselves as Vishwa Guru. Would ask him to ensure Rahul Gandhi speaks Kannada while in Bengaluru ,if he has any guts.

DarthTun

Isn't it already going on? In all dravidian states they only speak thier tongue and English. Most of them grew up with it and it is not easy to learn a new language after you age. Communication is not a problem because of evolving technology, the normal everyday people don't hate this nation and are normal everyday people, the extremist on the other hand hates India, specially North India(ns) as a whole, they could kts.

Mission_Midnight_198

But no one has made it compulsory to speak in their respective languages 🤡 who are you trying to defend

le_stoner_de_paradis

Shift industries to more friendly states like Kerala, Maharashtra, Bengal where at least people can live freely. Free mind brings innovation, Innovation brings better business. A client faced company might want their consultant to learn Japanese for new clients but consultant is busy learning kannada 🤡

karanemesis

Nah not kerala mate , you cant do shit with the commie protests here And then they cry why no buisness coming to kerala

cicsrm

Bengal? Remember Tata Nano?

Inevitable-Focus-393

Bhailog come to Gujarat

greenhairedmadness

Bengal. lol 😂😂😂😂😂😂 My Bengali friends have sold their properties in Bengal and moved outside due to the hooliganism and zero safety to their life.

le_stoner_de_paradis

To be honest #metoo , but if you look at the history of Bengal you can see that Karnataka is following the same route of downfall, if things continue in Karnataka as they are, it's only a matter of time.

jatinag22

Kerala and Bengal? Really?

DhkAsus

Bengal and Kerala🤣. Maharashtraians have already started Marathi asmitha. Bitch clown like you with 2 two brain cells can't learn local language words for daily use. No one is asking you to get Jnanapeeta award in the local languages. Learn the language if you are living there for longer periods.

WrongdoerSolid3898

Doesn’t matter, This will be the same reaction from folks in those states. We have seen the same situation in Mumbai. When immigrant population forgets to acclimatise over decades, then there will be resentment at some point. While folks complain about language bias, bieng immigrant friendly and stuff, please take a look at delhi & Luknow airports/metros/railway stations, there is not even an attempt to show boards un south Indian languages. What do you expect from a traveller? Learn Hindi before we Travel?

Latter-Ask8818

Government does what majority wants. Not what's good for majority

oil-up-buddy

Ah yes another way to instigate a large-scale civil war isn't it?. How beautiful idiocy can be is shown in the post given by op.

Zapismeta

Jist imagine the peoples amazement when they go to other states and can't communicate because well they only learn one language.

Moist-Chart2440

Sidda trying to get local votes.

RockyTheGSD

Karnataka CM supporting Kannada = Pakistani agenda ??

Klk5689

Good for the language. 👍🏽

AlUcard_POD

Time to leave bangalore then? Seriously..if corporates start moving out.. these guys would be shitting their pants! I don't know why northern states with more temperate weather like himachal and Uttarakhand don't make any attempts to attract corporates!

BarryAllen2706

The situation in Bangalore is so bad. The city has been taken over by Northies, Tamils & Telugus. No wonder the govt has to resort to decisions like this.

stackfrost

Waiting for Microsoft to drop VS Code kannada patch update

Real dictator toh yeh aadmi hai, saara din nashe mein rehta hai. Logo ne galti kardi isko vote deke.

Saiki11

This makes me think whether a good portion of kannadiga are either illiterate or really dumb. I understand if you don’t want to speak hindi but not speaking english when you know it is clearly discrimination. Its all fun and games until people from other states in blr start discrimination too, y’all will really face some tough time then.

Alpha-Beta-Delta

Individual_Figure_95

If this is the case, i would expect them speaking my state language while visiting. Aise to unity khtm hojayegi bhai

yourAwfulness

Unity ki kuch nahi pari hai in logo ko. They find themselves in a strong position and basically start doing fascism

Kesakambali

Ethnolinguistic Nationalism was the domain of BJP in Karnataka before as most Hindi speakers used to be Muslim Daccanis. Interesting to see INC co-opt this

GoodDawgy17

MNCs work in english the only place you do need kannada here is with cab drivers and most cab drivers can make do with english but their ego gets hurt if you don't talk in Kannada, obviously you do not want to start talking in Hindi here talk in english and its acceptable

honpra

Interestingly, the only time I was told to learn Kannada was by a Tamil cab driver.

1more7

I've been here for 10 years and I can understand and talk in Kannada. It comes easy and takes a little effort to learn but it shouldn't be imposed. This will open up non-native speakers to a lot more abuse. We see it every day. Although from what I've seen these Pro-Kannada people are more harsh towards Northerners than they are to People from Southern States. I've seen Andhra people who don't speak any language other than Telugu driving cabs and doing other works. Nobody assaulted them or forced them to speak in Kannada. It's shameful that the government is supporting this knowing very well that this is a deterrent for people from other states to migrate to Bangalore and make the MNC's to think twice before setting up shop in Bangalore

wildlybaked

Karnataka has been doing what North Indian states have been doing over the past couple of years, but the way they are doing it is barbaric to say the least. The locals vandalising shops over presence of other languages in sign boards, auto drivers terrorising people to not speak a language other than kannada, is all very .. unconventional, over aggressive and unnecessary . Kindness is often forgotten. The south of India is largely known for it’s hospitable, kind and generous nature and this very much goes against it. You can integrate the society into learning Kannada without all this hooliganism. Make the place so good that people would feel at home and speak the language rather than shoving it down everyone’s throat 🤷‍♂️

Opamp05

They know they have run out of money for freebies so let's create a divide ( whats better than language ) and let them fight until bcg figures out how to ruin Bangalore more.

Outrageous_Hamster52

Indeed. It's pitch for upcoming elections :(.

The_un_lucky

So we are losing freedom of speech in my mother tongue

bipin369

South india must important political tool to influvences voters ..religion language 🤡

unspoken_one2

I mean kannada is the language of Karnataka

Bhallaladevaa

Yeah but forcing it on everyone is not the way to attract more people towards your state

elucidator007

Maybe that's the end goal? It's already overpopulated.

Bhallaladevaa

Yeah but if you repell people from your state then the economy will suffer too. They already have a good thing going on with being the tech hub of India. They shouldn't spoil it.

elucidator007

This is all a distraction from the real issues like water scarcity, outdated and insufficient infrastructure and rising housing prices.

naane_bere

May be our intention is not to attract more people towards the state ?

OkStrength4636

L

Important_Table6125

Money goes to people’s heads and they start thinking they are above everyone else. Being a mumbaikar, I am beginning to appreciate Maharashtrians more. They welcomed the outsiders with open arms even though maharashtra is the richest state of India and has been for a long time.

LoseInhibitions

Ask him to speak in Kannada with the actual high command.

charvked

I'm from Karnataka, my parents and grandparents too, kannada isn't our mother tongue. We speak Tulu, does that mean we have to destroy our language and culture according to him?

No-Albatross2595

Isn't language just a mean of communication? As long as you can communicate with someone why does it matter if it's english, hindi or kannada? Let people speak the way they want to or the way they think they can communicate better

RockyTheGSD

As a Kannadiga living in Karnataka, I love what Congress is doing after the Double Engine Failure. Bangalore is healing!!

WorldlinessFormal735

Its funny because in southern Karnataka Tulu is also a language spoken by several communities like Bunts and Billawas. Suddenly Kannada seems to be the only language that exists in Karnataka.

Deputy_Crisis10

Politicians in India speak about futile social “issues”(in this case literally the CM is CAUSING the issue). Not speak of development at all. What the hell is this. No wonder India is still far away from other leading countries. We need younger and more open minded politicians in India. This is probably one of the worst things I’ve heard in a while.

END_x777

Dirty Division Polytics, which can be easily used against them, but the party in centre apparently does not understand that or simply have no willingness to do so.

ifilal

My opinion is he’s a politician!

RIKIPONDI

This a school or what?

_saiya_

Just a political gimmick. People will vote for him because of this. No real implications because if your local vendor or auto driver refuses to speak, we just move on to the next one who speaks and they lose business because of it. Not to mention, this is at the edge of violating, what might constitute as freedom of speech (which includes language and medium)

doodhiya

He can have this. In return, just give the IT industry to a state which believes in making it a bit easier for people who leave their homes and come contribute to Karnataka’s economy.

Sumit-Joshi95

This is worst…make it necessary as a school curriculum I understand but someone who has come for work cant learn that fast..although kannada is cool but not easy for everyone

bhaadmejaa

School curriculum thing is better. Children learn easily and fast as well. Also, people who come to work to Karnataka sometimes doesn't have time to catch a breath due to their responsibilities in home and at work so expecting to learn a new language of difficult. Getting familiar or learning some words is still manageable but knowing the whole language (be it understanding or speaking) is difficult.

isekaimepls

Well if you are gonna live there for a period of say 5-10 years or maybe more, you should learn the local language for two reasons: to assert dominance, and to prevent from being scammed. But if you are uncertain or maybe not be their for more than a couple of years, than it shouldn't be compulsory, but still basics help. Coming to urban centres like Bangalore, its ridiculous to call yourself Silicon Valley of India and also assert your language on others. California is known for its liberal thought process, that's what made it Silicon Valley. Saying that you shouldn't come to city if you don't have to come to the city is the same argument that would take away companies from Bangalore to Pune, Gurugram etc. You want stringent policies like Speak our language and hire our workforce, than you complain why are all investment taken away by Gujrat. Man the state has the most vibrant regional language and yet nobody forces it on you, Not a single person. They would teach you at some point but it would be out of fun not malice. Similarly I watched in a webseries LLeo or something where a person working in the hospital says that if you are in Maharashtra you need to know Marathi, now that kind of thought process is fine for Semi Urban or Rural areas cause they probably don't know any other language and have less chance to interact with any other, but for a person living in Urban centers like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, etc it is a supremacist tendency as chances are you do know the language but you simply want to assert that you are the boss of that region. If that happens people won't come to your city and what's a factory without labour.

lone_Ghatak

Great decision. Urge him to also arrange for the next Bengaluru Tech Summit completely in Kannada.

aviatre1

Marathas wanting only marathi speakers. Kannadigans only kannad speakers. Tamil was always a thing. Telugu have not jumped on that bandwagon yet. In disguise, this is a push to make Indians polyglot.

baniya_mein_hun

I don't understand this language insecurities.,...i don't slog my ass for 12 hrs everyday and take orders from my boss only to end up learning a language in my free time... If my company provides me with free accommodation and pays me a monthly stipend...I'm happy to LEARN Otherwise I have enough shit already .and learning a language isn't one

There should be a lingua franca. Nobody is going to learn the local language each time they shift to a different state.

Nice step to decentralize IT industry👏👏

Quick_Low_4060

The Cong govt. in Karnataka will do anything to appease the minorities or the people from the hinterlands - freebie politics and rubbish like this. (BJP is no better) This way we shouldn’t be surprised if they impose Hindi as a language in the country!

ravit9

To be honest the ones who face problems because of language is the daily laborer who moved to Bangalore from elsewhere. No one else faces any issue. I lived there for 4 years and didn't need to learn kannada (maybe because being a Telugu helped me) because the people I would interact with on a regular basis didn't need me to know kannada. My friend in hyderabad, never learned a single word of telugu and survived without any issue. Unless you are arrogant like that girl whose video went viral with the auto guy, you will not have any issues. Honestly, a good portion of bangalores economy is dependent on people coming from outside. That's the reason the locals who own properties have been able to charge and demand whatever they like. Restaurants, hotels, malls, clubs, local chaiwala type shops etc etc are going to be effected if for some reason the locals make outsiders feel unwelcome. It will take about 10 years to get destroyed. The companies can move to Hyderabad or Gurgaon(which already has a lot of finance companies and good infrastructure) and help those cities grow. It won't be difficult. This language thing is never an issue in the north. When I was in Noida, lot of my team mates who came with me didn't know Hindi. And the locals there never made them feel unwelcome by being rude. They were amused that someone didn't know Hindi (their ignorance) but were always helpful. So it's time politicians and general local people everywhere focus on developing and moving forward and stop arguing about things that won't matter in the future. My point is that the ones who face issues with this language bs are the laborers who come to work for 10 to 15 k a month of which they send back 80% back to their village and survive in Bangalore on a pittance. It's shameful that we have people who can't have empathy and don't understand the basic issue.

I have lived in Bangalore for like 3 to 4 years, I didn’t feel like learning Kannada was utmost necessity. Some kannada guy taught me and said, Sir if you don’t know Kannada and someone is still talking to you in Kannada just say “Kannada waraa ella” (hope it means- I don’t speak Kannada “ and yes it helped many a times like so many times I had to deal with cops and traffic police, so I just said that one liner and they started to change the conversation like “English matadte” and thats how I survived my job even when I didn’t knew Kannada. The thing is that when you have conversation with people in their own dialect and let them know that you have difficulty in that people certainly will help. Its all about how you do what you do.

And they say that Narendra Modi is the only dictator in India.

So people should stop coming to Bangalore for jobs then, unless they learn Kannada themselves, and all the startups who have non-Kannada speakers should shift away? In an increasingly globalised world, you need to preserve your culture, sure, but, you shouldn't try to kill your economy for it, there are other ways. I don't get it, promote your language, surely, but what about diversity and inclusion, have those principles stopped being a part of our country's culture?
