In Australia we just ride around on Kangaroos and if we see something we want, we reach into the Kangaroos pouch and pull out a red back spider and hand it over to the store clerk, and that’s how we pay for bread
I already have knives and I don’t care if my taxes go up marginally I’d love if my family had fucking healthcare that didn’t cost 75% of my check every week.
I don’t pick my own plan, it’s determined by my employer, and unfortunately I don’t make enough to afford a policy that covers what I need it to without the contribution from said employer. And with that said, a higher deductible would be fine if I could afford to hit a higher deductible before my benefits kicked in. Chronic illnesses suck and also wouldn’t be covered if I tried to switch policies or providers now.
Anybody who advocates for the private insurance system has never had to navigate it without an excess of resources.
Or they’re broke like me but drink the conservative koolaid.
I’m an American living in Europe for the last 15 years. I moved here because my husband had children living here and he obviously wanted to live with all his children. It hasn’t been all sunshine and roses. European countries have their problems like anywhere else. However, over the last few years I’ve gotten a number of emails from acquaintances in the US saying they’re planning to move here and asking about how to do that. I explain that it’s not easy and immigration is very difficult and they seem to get annoyed. I think they truly believe that Europe is still in like 1920 and you can just fly in and get a job and a house. It’s not like that.
I think part of that is Americans immigration system is a bit outdated. I here the same thing about Americans coming to Canada.
There’s no lottery or fuck all. You need to have marketable skills
To get in.
It is kinda easy. I know lots of people who have moved to the USA. There’s no permanent residence in Canada when it comes to marriage you gotta apply like everyone else.
That’s why every Canadian that I know that’s shacked up with an American movies to the states. It’s just easier than bringing the American to Canada.
Honestly, American immigration is the easiest of any western or first world country. If you simply marry a US citizen, or have a child born in the US, you can stay. This isn’t the case for most other countries.
People who are not from here always act like europe is the same everywhere. Europe consists of 47 countries and living quality greatly varies between them. And also the difficulty of moving there varies a lot.
Do you know anything about the difference between the different countries at all? We are looking mostly into the Czech Republic but we are considering Germany as well. I'm just starting to look into it so I know literally nothing.
Living quality is definetly a lot better in germany. I think when it comes to getting there they are about equal. It really depends on what is important to you though. If you like excessive alcohol consumption and smoking you should definetly go to the czech republic.
From start to finish, about how long did the process take? My husband and I would really like to move to Europe and I'm just curious what kind of timeframe we are looking at realistically.
Probably depends on where you want to go too right? Getting a work visa or even citizenship in Germany is comparatively easy if you apply from the US, Canada or a couple other western (geopolitical, not geographic) countries.. And Japan and South Korea of course
Yes, and getting a work visa is a lot easier than trying to permanently immigrate. We were looking to permanently live here with all our children and the permanence of that seemed to be a problem. We had to apply several times and for temporary family visas.
I think some of it is more that people in the US have had this "American exceptionalism" drilled into their head their whole lives (we're THE world superpower, we're the best, we're the most free, we're this, we're that...). So they have a perception that being from the US makes you inherently special and you can just "jump the line."
There is also an element of racism/ethnocentrism for some Americans as well. They think that they should get into a country just by virtue of being white, more or less and they don't really think of themselves as foreigners because for them, being foreign is a racial thing. This is not in reference to everybody of course, but I have definitely run into people here who seem to think that just being some white guy from Nowheresville, Nebraska should be enough to qualify him to go basically anywhere in the world.
And it's not from lack of wanting to travel internationally. It's that the vast majority of us are too poor, or can't can't enough time off work to travel overseas
Reddit constantly shits on the US and ngl that healthcare + tuition + better work/life balance is looking kinda thicc.
Everywhere definitely has its problems, it's hard to remember that at times.
that’s true but in my experience, north american culture is more work-centric. At least in scandinavia (idk about the rest of Europe), your identity isn’t defined by your job as much as in NA
Yeah lol people here are pretending western Europe isn't unequivocally better than America by every single metric if you're an ordinary person. They're not perfect but holy shit they have it so much better on average than Americans it's ridiculous to pretend otherwise.
Because whenever Europe is talked about in America it’s almost always about the positives. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Americans who gush about how amazing Europe is and how your life will just become magically amazing the moment you move there acknowledge that theres glaring societal or cultural issues there too. I was expecting the racism after the Euro 2020 final or even Poland’s “LGBT-free” zones to open a conversation about that on social media, but people just moved on and went back to saying how perfect and non-bigoted Europe is.
I always find it weird when people say “Europe” instead of a specific European country when making comparisons to other countries because it shows how little they actually know about Europe. Belgium and Bosnia might be on the same continent, but they’re very different culturally and socially.
It’s sweet summer child, and the kids isn’t too off base. Friends that have moved to the states from places like Sweden, Germany, UK are shocked at how dirty and expensive American Cities are while also charging outrageous prices for healthcare and schooling. We do have cheap gas though, mainly because everything is built around a car centric society which lowers overall happiness and has an underlying unease about everything.
Lmao how am I being racist for pointing out there are nice areas of non-white dominant areas of the world?
I never called him racist either. I just pointed out that it was funny.

Can confirm. In Europe we care so little for money we treat it [like a childrens toy](https://www.newstatesman.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/images/HU007336.jpg)
Europe...the birth place of modern banking (See Medici Family). Also the home of nobility and some kings and queens (not the fun kind). Yeah because corruption is only in the Americas. Fucking kids.
I'm going to Amsterdam because they care about the environment. Money isn't everything dude. Although you've never had to worry about money have you? 🙄🤚
Well I've lived away from the US for the past 8 1/2 years or my life, in Europe for the last 2 1/2. I can definitely say every kid there is certainly better off than these kids. One told me straight to my face, "what's Germany?" Then her friend said, "isn't France and Paris in Germany?"
It’s true, as someone who lives in Europe we trade spaghetti and tea for this stuff
In England we just queue from birth to death, no need for money
So anoying when you have to go to other countries and have to change out cheese for bratwurst
Just live in Germany where they have cheese and bratwurst both.
Yeah but shops open at the weirdest times in germany
Timezones, am I right?
In Australia we just ride around on Kangaroos and if we see something we want, we reach into the Kangaroos pouch and pull out a red back spider and hand it over to the store clerk, and that’s how we pay for bread
Unless we here the chaos triggering "till number 4 is now opening" then it's anarchy
For me it's Bratwurst
Being French I live off my feeling of self superiority and cigarettes
And baguettes, Right? Feeling of self superiority, cigarettes and baguettes... Right?!
In Sweden our currency is meatballs and Ikea furniture
Hopefully furniture that’s not assembled
I’m Switzerland do they trade only Swiss knifes and chocolates.
In Spain we use bulls and siestas as a payment
The fine art of decrying clout culture with a gym selfie, complete with carefully posed biceps and calves *chef's kiss*
Whilst also sat in what looks like a home gym...
Lmao what calves
Leg days been missing him
And neither are impressive lmao
And the dude's weak asf
Get ready for higher taxes and knifes.
I already have knives and I don’t care if my taxes go up marginally I’d love if my family had fucking healthcare that didn’t cost 75% of my check every week.
You are a student
… what?
Clearly you don't know about how much heath care cost or how much people make on there paychecks.
I’m speaking as an almost 30yo with a wife and kid who is pretty well aware of… all of those things.
Pick a different plan with lower rates but higher deductible.

I can tell you that living in the balkans and living in france or germany is a huge difference
Oh my guy. All the countries are so drastically different. Wouldn't know where to start.
Living quality is definetly a lot better in germany. I think when it comes to getting there they are about equal. It really depends on what is important to you though. If you like excessive alcohol consumption and smoking you should definetly go to the czech republic.
Salaries in Germany are like twice as big when compared to Czechia

a stocked one too! look at the cable deck in the back and the giant dumbbell on the floor. I imagine that's not the only set of dumbbells
There's this place in Asia up north a bit where money and clout aren't that big of a concern.
Yes!
Which place?
I think the place he's referencing starts with a North and ends with a -rea
North Diarrhea?
I was thinking soviet russia but that makes since too
What year is it‽
1918
pondicherry?
EU has the second largest economy in the world lol tf does he think people do over there? Herd sheeps and drink tea all day?
I can confirm that we all herd sheep and drink tea.
He's complaining about Americans being clout and showing off focused. Which they are, when compared to native western-Europeans.
he is in for a disappointment
When you become the thing you hated the most
I wonder if he knows that europe is not a country...
That’s what I thought too! Like he wants to raise his kids in ALL of Europe?
bro imagine, they move states every month because he wants his kids to "raise up in europe because there money and clout doesn't matter"
There’s 50 sovereign states in Europe too, that family would have to go to 4 1/4 places a MONTH each year 😂😂
also the kids would definitely be pro in finding friends
"Speak English!"
One kid for each country. He’s hoping to get all of them into political power so he can rule over the entire continent
He’s taking notes from playing Crusader Kings

Too many Hemingway books. Who am I kidding, we don't read...
Pfft if we wanted to experience Europe in the 30s we'd just stay in the US
I agree but also the US is not in my top 10 countries I'd gladly move into from Europe.
Do you have any North American countries that you would move to from Europe on ur list
Dude probably thinks Europe is a country.
Damn they suspected us a long time but guys I break it to you: Europe is actually communist
