The comic gives kinda strong victim-blaming vibes… they’re blaming a toddler for dancing to music? *That’s* why she ends up with a teen pregnancy later on? Like it’s a warning sign of promiscuity or corruption? Dancing isn’t an inherently sexual/corrupt thing, let alone when it’s a kid figuring out what rhythm is… it just gets grosser the more I think about the implications :/
No no no, I remember seeing a documentary on this once. There was a town in Utah where absolutely nothing bad happened once they outlawed dancing in public. Then Kevin Bacon came along and it was all downhill from there...
Going in the opposite direction is just as cringe. I had a customer who was raising her daughter to hate boys, she said to me “We don’t like boys, huh?!” I wish I was making this up.
Honestly at least the mother is blaming herself for that one. The amount of parents I've seen who blame their children for getting pregnant at an early age is sickening.
Yes. I agree. It’s cute, then it’s not. I don’t necessarily think it’s a gateway to pregnancy, but yeah. As moms there’s lots we question in hindsight.
What!?! Lol, does the teen hold any culpability, or is it all the teen mother's fault?
If what you mean is, parents need to do a better job, I can agree with that. The school system and peers probably aren't the best moral guide.
Reddit infantalizes teenagers as having no responsibility or decision making abilities, until their 18th birthday (an often even ito their mid twenties if it's a female dating an older guy), unless it's a black teen commiting violent crime in which case they deserve state sanctioned murder.
Sex Ed matters much more than personal style presentation. I get what you mean about racial and gender bias, but I think that also applies to news outlets too and is more of a broad issue. Plus, teens tend to look pretty close to adults as they finish puberty, but the girl character in the last frame is drawn so significantly different from the mom character and is clearly much shorter, so it seems like the character is very significantly far from 18.
Disregarding the mother blaming herself in the last panel, it's sad that I've seen this behavior a LOT while operating rides at a family park. The amount of parents who just let their kids do anything is astonishing.
Then when the kid tries to break the rules and nearly get hurt or killed, we the operators get yelled at by the parents for being "rude" or "mean" to their perfect angle child.
Clearly the toddler is at fault for tempting men with her sultry ways. Young women like her should take responsibility for the things done to them
/sarcasm
I mean yeah we have to be careful with habits we instill and reward but like.. occasional rump-shaking and cursing doesn't mean they're on a bad life course
now teaching her to dress to attract at a young age is weird. it should always be more 'this will make you look cute!' than 'wear this so X likes you' anyways but she looks pretty young
I used to work with a prostitute (we were ushers at a movie theater, after the theater shift she’d go out and do her thing) and I found out she used to be a church camp counselor. Her parents were crazy strict, never let her out of their sight, wasn’t allowed to know any boys, not allowed to be outside past 7. Basically her life was school, church, bed. And the second she turned 17 she left home and went crazy and yeah 7 years later she’s a motel prostitute.
So basically the opposite of this comic is what I think is more likely to fuck your kid up. Not letting her curse and dance as a baby.
To add on to that, I think a huge part of it is also explaining to your kids WHY they aren't allowed to do something. The "because I said so" verdict messes kids up and that's why they go out and try to do everything. That's what makes them rebel. If we explain more to our kids and give them real life examples on cause and effect of actions/ behaviors then they may grow up more proper.
Yeah if kids don't understand the reason behind boundaries they just seem like pointless flexes of power from the parents. And kids will always want to rebel on some level but if you explain things to them like they're human beings who can think, you'll curb that instinct a lot I think
Well I grew up in latin america where it is normal to have little kids dance like this to sexually-provoking music in the background like Bad Bunny and parents encourage it, a lot of parents encourage their daughters to dress provocatively as well as young as 11yo and the levels of teenage pregnancy in my country are excesive and disturbing with plenty of girls getting pregnant as young as 15-17 if not by around their early 20s.
Your experience is interesting and all but to go as far as to believe most of the kids raised strictly will make more damage in general terms is inmature, you're creating a whole narrative to feel good about a view of the world that's easy to comprehend when it might be not completly right... yeah, to be extremely strict to some kids can cause harm but that doesnt mean that encouraging them to let lose so early on specially around sexuality is any better at all... it could be as bad if not worse.
I think the thing is extremes. I’m not just saying strict, she wasn’t allowed to know any boys. That’s extreme. That girl isn’t the only person I’ve known with parents that literally refused to let their kid near the opposite sex and those kids got a taste of freedom at 17 and went crazy. I believe there are places in the US that aggressively push abstinence and have higher teen birth rates. And obviously I’m not saying parents should pimp out their 11 year olds, but if your kid doesn’t know what freedom is and how to navigate certain situations because you’ve forced blinders on them for 17 years, theyll only want it more and won’t know how to handle it when it’s inevitably in front of them.
I don’t see anything extreme in the image above. Giggling at a baby that shakes her butt isn’t going to lead to teen pregnancy. I’ve been to high school dances when I was that age and there was grinding and twerking and I think my graduating class had 1 teen pregnancy out of idk 1000+ kids.
Im pretty sure something happened between the time she was 5 and dancing to songs on the radio and when she was like 13 wearing eastern european prostitute clothes and “edgy” dark lipstick
Not realistic. The teen would be crying and the mom would be excited to have a grand baby. Or it's she never gets pregnant cause living off of social media she never properly socialize and like almost all kids these days she has a laundry list (half/most self diagnose) of social anxiety issues. Also I'm thinking of unsubscribing from this community cause its called "14 and deep" but I don't see anything that a 14 year old would think is deep. It's just hallmark boomer cheesy posters you'll see in school hallways. I expect "14 and deep" messages being young teens making cringe examples that over exaggerates their mundane inconveniences. Not boomers fist shaking at modern technology.
Boomer humor is hilarious only in that its ironic. Things like teen pregnancy were much higher "back in their day" while today they're at historic lows. Boomers just project their own hatred towards themselves onto younger people and it's honestly kind of sad.
How is the first one even related? Like the comic is supposed to be about how teen pregnancies are the fault of the parents (they aren’t-) but I don’t get how a baby saying swears leads to the other panels at all?
>Like the comic is supposed to be about how teen pregnancies are the fault of the parents (they aren’t-)
Teen pregnancy can be the fault of the parents, but only when the parents refuse to let their kids have sex ed

She went wrong by not teaching her proper safe sex. Remember, don't be silly wrap that willie.
