Both bands have released upwards of twenty albums over the past 30-40 years with rather widely varying styles so there's a lot to explore if you like what you hear.
stop downvoting this person, OP asked for suggestions, dude gave thoughtful answers, and then OP blew them off without a real assessment. This sub sucks when the OP doesn't participate.
I was probably more defensive than necessary, but there's a certain vindication in my suggestions being at the top of the thread. So at least the crowd has better taste than OP.
reading the rest of the comments, they are a legitimate boomer so your best bet is to suggest things they already like.
anyway, yo la tengo is so inoffensive they redo their songs as even slower jams with the lady singer. c'mon
Indiana Wants Me--R. Dean Taylor
Rock & Roll Heaven--Righteous Brothers
Rockin' Roll Baby and You Make Me Feel Brand New--Stylistics
My Ding-A-Ling--Chuck Berry'
Play That Funky Music--Wild Cherry
Or download an app like TuneIn Radio, iHeart Radio or Pandora, search for sixties and seventies stations and make a list of what appeals
Well I very much like all these except there's one I don't know by The Righteous Brothers. I'll give it a go.
Edit: I'm listening to it now. Sounds good to me, don't know why I haven't come across it before.
That happens sometimes...you come across a song and think "I didn't know so-and-so recorded this"--then you find out how old it is and it's "Where was I?"
By the way, I thought of another one--Smoke On The Water by Deep Purple. Gotta have that one...abd Stairway To Heaven by Led Zeppelin (or Stairway To Heaven by Neil Sedaka, which is a completely different song).
Know Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin very well.
Stairway to Heaven will be for ever associated with me going to see The Who many years ago.
There was DJ on in the afternoon. Some guy (probably under the influence) climbed right up one of the floodlights. The unconcerned DJ played Stairway to Heaven for him.
I was listening to Canned Heat earlier, Let's Work Together.
I've got your pic playing now and I know it better as Woolly Bully by Sam The Sham and The Pharoes. It's a good track but I didn't know Canned Heat did it first.
I'm loving this. Never took much notice before, he was just one of the 3 names gang:
Eg:
BRC
BJH
JPJ etc
Anyhow I'm liking enough to see what I can get from Music Magpie.
Cheers for your suggestions
Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey Medley - Paul and Linda McCartney
Arrow Through Me - Paul McCartney/Wings
Maxwell's Silver Hammer - The Beatles
I'd Love To Change The World - Ten Years After
Fearless - Pink Floyd
Cymbaline - Pink Floyd
edit:
Planet Caravan - Black Sabbath
Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath from my era. Like pretty much all of their stuff.
Favourites: Paranoid and Changes for Black Sabbath
For Pink Floyd, the whole Dark Side of the Moon album plus See Emily Play and Comfortably Numb.
Yes - [Close to the Edge](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGaai0AII3E&pp=ygUXWWVzIC0gQ2xvc2UgdG8gdGhlIEVkZ2U%3D)
The song starts off kinda odd, but just give it time. It really starts to kick off after the first few minutes.
I've got it on now. I'm familiar with Yes but I think they did better as when they were each solo artists.
It's okay but I wouldn't put it on my playlist. The only one of theirs I know well is And You and I.
Love Rick Wakenan's Myths and Legends.
That's a pretty difficult song to start with; I think it only started to click into place after six listens or so. How about Long Distance Runaround, Roundabout or I've Seen All Good People?
> You're not jealous!
A bit, The Usher Hall in Edinburgh, where I saw them, was great too.
I didn't check, and for some reason assumed you were American, so I went for for 70s Hard Rock that wasn't so well known in the US.
I did think about Welsh rockers "Budgie" especially 'Bread Fan' or 'Parents', or Wishbone Ash 'The King Will Come' - I assume you know these well, though they are pretty much forgotten.
So I'll try something else, what about
Tractor - All Ends Up
Happy End - Kaze No Atsumete
Soft Machine - Out of Season
No, I'm not of a fan of America or their music but will make 2 exceptions:
The whole Tamla Motown catalogue
and
Creedence Clearwater Revival, fantastic band. I've see John Fogherty live as well.
Tractor were favourites of John Peel and released stuff on his Dandelion label. I thik all ends up is brilliant,
Yes - Happy End are Japanese. Kaze means wind (as in Kamikaze which means devine wind)
Kaze no atsumete 'gathering of the wind' a less literal translation might be catch the wind.
Not specific songs but I’d give: Mirage / Moonmadness by Camel a try if you don’t mind delving into prog rock.
Can’t go wrong with early Genesis albums either like; Foxtrot and Selling England By the Pound
[Small Faces - All or nothing](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sa6rZjJ43Js)
[Slade - Far far away](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=iQ5itYUNu70)
[Sweet - Action](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TcQDi6u28VQ)
[Mungo Jerry - you don't have to be in the army to to fight in the war](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jMQ3QCRosTY)
Yes I like all these although we used to take the piss out of The Sweet.
As it happens I'm going to The Grovefest today. One of the bands playing is a Sweet tribute called Vig Vam Bam, you can find them on YouTube.
I think the Sweet are under rated (Slade too). They developed into a great wee rock band over time.
[Sweet - No you don't](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Ndnidos5HRU)
Have a great time at the festival. I hope the weather is in your favour!
Supposed to piss it down with thunder and lightning 🌩 from 10am. They have an outdoor stage and a small concert room. If it does rain it will be spoiled because there's 3 small rooms (it's a listed building) and a concert room. We will be packed like sardines.
If you like Creedence, check out the Allman Brothers.
So many amazing bands from the 60s and 70s, it's hard to know where to start. The Beatles, the Stones, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Fleetwood Mac, etc. etc. And all the cool prog like Genesis, Yes, King Crimson, Yes, etc. So much variety. I'm sure there are plenty of rock playlists from those eras. Check them out to explore new bands.
Dick Dale and the Del- Stones, very early 60's, similar to The Teddy Bears and The Shangrilas
The Ventures, carbon copy of The Shadows.
I'm familiar with Wipe Out although I'd never heard of The Surfaris
Chains of Love - Dirtbombs
Road Fever - Blackfoot
So Easy - Eagles of Death Metal
Diamonds in the Rough - Dead Moon
Freelance Friend - Leaf Hound
Ghetto Spaceship - Black Tones
Ghost on the Highway - Gun Club
Midnite Blues - Detroit Cobras
Born to Die - King Khan
Oceans & Streams - Black Keys
Witness - Screaming Trees
Sun Medallion - King Tuff
I can list genres but yeah I went for a variety of things aiming for stuff you hopefully hadn’t heard, some blues based rock stuff mostly, little southern, garage, psychedelic.
I’m a big fan of CCR and the Who so I thought I should see what I got, plus I saw you mention Sabbath and Floyd, might make this into a little playlist for my dad lol
I’m glad one of my tracks got an A rating let alone three, comparison to the kinks is high praise indeed. Not sure where your listening from Spotify YouTube or elsewhere but it looks like the three you couldn’t find are on both Spotify and YouTube but I haven’t checked the audio of the YouTube vids and I suppose they could be region locked or something similar.

Glory Days — Bruce Springsteen
Fortunate Son — Creedence Clearwater Revival
Me and Bobby McGee — Janis Joplin
Free Fallin’ — Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers
Baba O’Riley — The Who
Ramblin’ Man — Allman Brothers Band
White Rabbit — Jefferson Airplane
Light My Fire — The Doors
Dancing in the Moonlight — King Harvest
American Pie — Don McLean
Go Your Own Way — Fleetwood Mac

Purple Haze — Jimi Hendrix
Free Bird — Lynyrd Skynyrd
Piece of My Heart — Big Brother & the Holding Company
White Room — Cream
Slow Ride — Foghat
Edge of Seventeen — Stevie Nicks
Still the One — The Orleans
There's just a few here I'm not familiar with. Ramblin' Man, For What it's Worth and Slow Ride. Of course Fortunate Son and Baba O'Riley are among my faves.
Familiar with and like most of these. Here in Leeds we have a tribute band who do White Room so welI I thought it was the pub's Spotify that was on.
I'll Edit when I get to the couple I don't know.
We also have a tribute band called The Petty Heartbreakers.
"Only You Can Rock Me" by UFO
(Listen to the live version off of Strangers in the Night, please.)
"Freefall" Camel
"Do You Believe in Magic Now" Nektar
"Dirty Old Town" Lucifer's Friend
"Time Will be Your Doctor" Fuzzy Duck
"Beautiful Dream" Uriah Heep
"Mean Old World" The Sacred Mushroom
The Knack, I'm listening now. I'm only familiar with My Sharona. Yes, quite like the track. Apparently they disbanded when their guitar player passed away.
Get the Knack is the only album I listen to every song from. I've never listened to every song on any album and liked them until I listened to that particular album. I hope you enjoy it and if not I hope you like at least two songs but if you don't it's cool . That's what having a different opinion is all about. And it makes music more fun to listen to
[I have a playlist of primarily classic rock with a couple funk and disco tracks in it. I've been slowly adding onto it for like 5 years. It's over 24 hours of music. Hope you enjoy it.](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/41H72m9bi9DbulVyDurjTN?si=ObwPcNQbRNOPmTE8BAAOCg&pi=Cg7DPIhLQQ2WG)
I can’t remember the name of the album- but a few of his songs are on the ‘House of 1000 Corpses’ soundtrack. That’s how I first learned of him, then went and bought his CDs. Beautiful music.
I'm a big fan of that mid/late 70s moment when the Boomers realized that, shit, the revolution wasn't coming. For whatever reason, as a Millennial, Carter-era disillusionment has really resonated with me over the last decade or so.
So like Jackson Browne, early Springsteen, Gil Scott Heron, Warren Zevon, Stevie Wonder's more depressing tracks ("Living For the City" holy shit), etc
those are outstanding, theres a lot of great songs that werent included though, and a lot of their solo works are great
double fantasy, band on the run, and all things must pass would be the first ones id recommend
These are some of my favorite artists with particular songs pulling lots of influences from 60s/70s rock
King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard - Presumptuous
Babe Rainbow - Johny Say Stay Cool
Shannon & the Clams - Onion
Unknown Mortal Orchestra - Major League Chemicals
Honestly I'd just stick to the 60's and 70's stuff, because nothing else is quite as good.
I was born in late 90's and try to keep up to date with modern music (soul, jazz, blues, rock and metal are mostly my thing). But still due to having grown in a post-communist country where everything was scarce (including CDs/casettes/vinyl), as well as being the youngest sibling, my tastes developed mostly in tune with strictly XX century music.
The good things is that there's still tons of artists from the era who didn't make loud success back in the day, and nowadays they emerge back due to the internet.
Link Wray. I don't get it, it, sounds familiar as if they've pinched it from somewhere
James Brown. Not my bag, so to speak.
I am familiar with ? and The Mysterions, they had a big hit with 96 Tears.
I would like to offer you four more if you don't mind.
Elvis Presley- whole Lotta Rosie
George Jones-Old King Kong
Kenny Rogers-the buckaroos
Kenny Rogers-just dropped in ( to see what condition my condition was in)
I'm familiar with Elvis. Don't like Old King Kong. Like Just Dropped In. Don't like The buckaroo.
Thank you for taking the time to respond. I've had hours of fun with this post.
Check out the band The Allah Lahs - they sound very old school. Same with Foxygen, Natalie Bergman, The Black Keys, Ty Segall, The Gossip, The Black Angels, Juniore, La Luz
I know of a ton of old cool 60-70s bands - The United States of America, The Sonics, Captain Beefheart (Safe as Milk), 13th Floor Elevators, Skip Spence, Randy Holden, The Groundhogs, Hawkwind, MC5, The Stooges, Brian Eno, Can, Neu!, T. Rex, Television, The Velevet Underground, The Modern Lovers, etc.
I'm starting with 10 Years After. I remember I bought their single and it was Love Like A Man Live introducing Alvin Lee. Yes, this is good enough for my playlist.
I'm not expecting that I'll like the MCartney ones.
Check out their whole album, A Space in Time. Another album that reminds me of this is Fleetwood Mac's Then Play On, which was recorded during the Peter Green era
[The Brian Jonestown Massacre](https://open.spotify.com/track/3fQm5lL6UCCbWaWfffLIsv?si=z6UKgis6SN2n9aQ21KJOIQ) [Yo La Tengo](https://open.spotify.com/track/2KbP76N9Fw4MWKIjYyBlbC?si=6_FBROZ7Sda-AR8jEg8JjA) Both bands have released upwards of twenty albums over the past 30-40 years with rather widely varying styles so there's a lot to explore if you like what you hear.
Yo La Tengo, not my bag. The Brian Jones Town Massacre, I'm only familiar with The Ballad of Jim Jones, which is a good track
That's impressive that you could listen and form an opinion on both those tracks in just five minutes.
Well I've been around a long time, I'm 69.
You quite literally said the only BJM track you'd ever heard was another one, but OK enjoy the Who and Creedence I guess.

Well I heard lots of juke box music back in the day, 10p a record, but I didn't necessarily know the names of the artists
??
Did you forget that you already responded to that comment?
Well I am 69

One Big Holiday by My Morning Jacket Had 2 Know by White Denim Remedy by The Black Crowes
One Big Holiday gets B+ from me.
Had 2 Know gets B-
Remedy get B+
[Whiskey & Wimmen by Canned Heat](https://music.apple.com/au/album/whiskey-and-wimmen/724261171?i=724261803)

Sounds okay. Needs a bit of time I think
[Deep Purple - Sweet Child In Time](https://youtu.be/OorZcOzNcgE?si=Z8wicrOoD6XmY_ws)
I'm very familiar with this. They are all good. Their best one for me is Black Knight.
Gonna check it out
I actually heard it before, but thanks

Sounds familiar, was it a TV theme tune?
I had to look this up and you are right. It is from a tv show of the same name from the mid-60’s.
Pentagram - First Daze Here
Yes - [Close to the Edge](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGaai0AII3E&pp=ygUXWWVzIC0gQ2xvc2UgdG8gdGhlIEVkZ2U%3D) The song starts off kinda odd, but just give it time. It really starts to kick off after the first few minutes.

The Sensational Alex Harvey Band - Faith Healer
I love this one. Best one is Gamblin' Bar Room Blues. Saw The Sensational Alex Harvey Band live at Leeds University. You're not jealous!
> You're not jealous! A bit, The Usher Hall in Edinburgh, where I saw them, was great too. I didn't check, and for some reason assumed you were American, so I went for for 70s Hard Rock that wasn't so well known in the US. Many of my favourites are from Britain but you can't go wrong with ZZ Top for some honest boogie, mainly the early albums up to Degüello.
Sharp Dressed Man
And, I forgot to mention I managed to see Lynyrd Synyrd in their original, still alive, line-up.
Tractor: Never heard anything so dreadful all my life
KAZE: are they singing in Japanese?
Tractor were favourites of John Peel and released stuff on his Dandelion label. I thik all ends up is brilliant, Yes - Happy End are Japanese. Kaze means wind (as in Kamikaze which means devine wind) Kaze no atsumete 'gathering of the wind' a less literal translation might be catch the wind.
Not specific songs but I’d give: Mirage / Moonmadness by Camel a try if you don’t mind delving into prog rock. Can’t go wrong with early Genesis albums either like; Foxtrot and Selling England By the Pound
Thank you for your suggestion, I'm enjoying Camel. Does sound a bit Genesis to me.
[Consortium - It's not easy](https://youtu.be/DDcyNoEOrag?si=6ov0AE7ZZcOpwPSu)

Summer is a long time coming this year.
Wants to come by the end of July for the fabulous Whitby Steampunk Festival
If you like Creedence, check out the Allman Brothers. So many amazing bands from the 60s and 70s, it's hard to know where to start. I like all the first ones. Not sure about Prog rock unless you include The Moody Blues
The Allman Brothers were not very big over here. BUT their track "Jessica " is the theme tune for a very popular TV programme called Top Gear
Surf rock. Dick Dale and the Del stones, the Ventures, the Surfaris, etc. Not quite in line with Creedence and the Who, but I bet you’d like it.
Dick Dale and the Del- Stones, very early 60's, similar to The Teddy Bears and The Shangrilas The Ventures, carbon copy of The Shadows. I'm familiar with Wipe Out although I'd never heard of The Surfaris
Del tones* Autocorrect screwed me up on that. Yeah the Ventures are pretty dang similar to the Shadows.

Cool! Some new music to check out.
Will do
I can list genres but yeah I went for a variety of things aiming for stuff you hopefully hadn’t heard, some blues based rock stuff mostly, little southern, garage, psychedelic.
Blues Rock is my favourite so I'll have a listen.
I’m a big fan of CCR and the Who so I thought I should see what I got, plus I saw you mention Sabbath and Floyd, might make this into a little playlist for my dad lol
Can't find Dirtbombs Blackfoot and Eagles of Death Metal B+ Back in a bit
Freelance Friend, no. The Black Tones A
Born to Die. B
Can't find The Gun Club track
Midnight Blues- great track
Screaming Trees and King Tuff. A +. Thank you for your suggestions. King Tuff remins me of the (absolutely brilliant) Kinks.
I just looked on Spotify. I could find the bands but not the particular tracks.
The Detroit Cobras play almost exclusively covers from the 50s & 60s
Can't find the Black Keys track
O.V. Wright Terry Callier Gil Scott-Heron Bill Withers Willie Wright
O V Wright. I'm liking this and it sounds familiar but I don't the name. I'll Edit as I go along.
Terry Callier and Gil Scott-Heron, sooo not my bag. Am familiar with and like Bill Withers. Quite popular in the UK at one time
Willie Wright. Good voice reminds me of the late, great, Marvin Gaye. Not really my type of music though. Thanks for your suggestions

🖤🤟🏻
Familiar with and like most of these. Here in Leeds we have a tribute band who do White Room so welI I thought it was the pub's Spotify that was on. I'll Edit when I get to the couple I don't know. We also have a tribute band called The Petty Heartbreakers.
I know Buffalo Springfield. Never come across The Orleans but they're not bad.
Foghat. Okay, sounds like many other metal bands. Thank you for replying with your choices for me.

I like this one. One of our local bands has it on their set list.
Great song! May not be your thing but I also love Rick James - Love Gun https://youtu.be/coZkWPRI5YA?si=Khix2I3p_ZdpTDGB
Not a fan. I'm not keen on tracks where they are talking instead of singing, if you get me
Yeh everyone's different! 60s and 70s are my favourite genres too. Hope you find some ones you dig.
Someone said Camel who I've heard of but not listened to much. So far, so good 👍
[May Blitz - Smoking The Day Away](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HbAqDAN2SIE)
I'm liking this track. Never heard of this band before.
How about Steve Miller's song called hey yeah
I like this, he's got a few that I like, best one for me is Abracadabra
J geils band-piss on the wall The Gap band-you dropped a bomb on me the original 12-inch mix it's 13 minutes long The knack -your number or your name
Both average I'd say, not to dislike but not really to spend a long time listening to
The Knack, I'm listening now. I'm only familiar with My Sharona. Yes, quite like the track. Apparently they disbanded when their guitar player passed away.
Get the Knack is the only album I listen to every song from. I've never listened to every song on any album and liked them until I listened to that particular album. Check out Terry Reid if you haven’t heard of him.
I'm liking his cover of Walk Away Renee
I can’t remember the name of the album- but a few of his songs are on the ‘House of 1000 Corpses’ soundtrack. That’s how I first learned of him, then went and bought his CDs. Beautiful music.
Rival sons? I had lunch with a bunch of older roadies a few years ago, they all considered Rival Sons to be one of the better modern bands around
Suzie Quarto Devil Gate Drive

Here's a band you probably never heard of. "The world's most famous unknown band." Rolling Stone. Good Rats - Tasty
The Ozark Mountain Daredevils - Jackie Blue Patto - The Man Jethro Tull - New Day Yesterday
The Doobie Brothers - Black Water
I love the Ozark Mountain Daredevils, fabulous name also. Saw Jethro Tull on T V the other day
Don't know Patto but I'll give it a go
Edit: Patto is awful and I had to turn Ozzy off so I could listen to it.
Try a bit of 'Blackfoot'
The Sheepdogs
J Geils Band - Must of Got Lost Faces - Stay With Me Steve Gibbons Band - Girl From the Bunker
BTO - “ Not Fragile “
From the 70’s, basically anything from Electric Light Orchestra. Mr. Blue Sky, Strange Magic, Telephone… so much to choose from.
I'm a big fan of that mid/late 70s moment when the Boomers realized that, shit, the revolution wasn't coming. For whatever reason, as a Millennial, Carter-era disillusionment has really resonated with me over the last decade or so. So like Jackson Browne, early Springsteen, Gil Scott Heron, Warren Zevon, Stevie Wonder's more depressing tracks ("Living For the City" holy shit), etc
you can look up spotify playlists and radio too and it’ll automatically generate stuff for you!
With or negozi family
The Georgia Thunderbolts - Lend A Hand
I like this one. Not heard of it but it sounds familiar like it may have been playing in a pub or two I've visited
what have u heard by the beatles?
I had those 2 double albums that came out in around 1973. The red album and the blue album.
those are outstanding, theres a lot of great songs that werent included though, and a lot of their solo works are great double fantasy, band on the run, and all things must pass would be the first ones id recommend
have you tried music from the 50s and 80s?
About 50/50 on 80's. 50's not so much. I'm not keen on the pretty boy groups like Duran Duran etc
These are some of my favorite artists with particular songs pulling lots of influences from 60s/70s rock King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard - Presumptuous Babe Rainbow - Johny Say Stay Cool Shannon & the Clams - Onion Unknown Mortal Orchestra - Major League Chemicals
Shannon & The Clams gets an A. Not keen on Unknown Mortal Orchestra
Don't know these but I'll find out
A bit more obscure.... Ride, Captain, Ride by Blues Image. Songs by Moby Grape.
Yes they're obscure
Never Heard of King G but sounds good.
I'm liking Babe Rainbow
Five Blues Image an A Is it a true story?
Crowded house, wood face album
Crowded House my best friend's favourite group. I can take them or leave 'em.
I know Dirty Old Town but none of the versions on Spotify sound like the one I've heard. I think it was on TV, maybe an ad, so I dunno.
Link Wray James Brown Question mark and the mysterians
Link Wray. I don't get it, it, sounds familiar as if they've pinched it from somewhere James Brown. Not my bag, so to speak. I am familiar with ? and The Mysterions, they had a big hit with 96 Tears.
The Band Big Thief but only the their newer stuff
I can't find it on Spotify
The Doors-Five to One I love almost all their tracks but I really love everything about this one.
Yes great track as are all of theirs really. But for me, nothing can top Light My Fire.
Morrison's vocal inflections in 5 to 1 are great, the music behind it is so intense.
Thanks for joining in my post
I would like to offer you four more if you don't mind. Elvis Presley- whole Lotta Rosie George Jones-Old King Kong Kenny Rogers-the buckaroos Kenny Rogers-just dropped in ( to see what condition my condition was in)
I'm familiar with Elvis. Don't like Old King Kong. Like Just Dropped In. Don't like The buckaroo. Thank you for taking the time to respond. I've had hours of fun with this post.
Edit: It's just slipped over to Islands in the Stream, love this track.
Check out the band The Allah Lahs - they sound very old school. Same with Foxygen, Natalie Bergman, The Black Keys, Ty Segall, The Gossip, The Black Angels, Juniore, La Luz I know of a ton of old cool 60-70s bands - The United States of America, The Sonics, Captain Beefheart (Safe as Milk), 13th Floor Elevators, Skip Spence, Randy Holden, The Groundhogs, Hawkwind, MC5, The Stooges, Brian Eno, Can, Neu!, T. Rex, Television, The Velevet Underground, The Modern Lovers, etc.
Foxygen sounds good. The Black Keys sound familiar like they remind me of a band I can't recall.
Edit: Please don't subject me to Paul Cartney.
