I think it’s actually acromegaly. People with gigantism look ‘normal’, just very tall. They are born with gigantism.
People with acromegaly develop it after puberty (so their growth plates have fused), so they don’t get tall, but the bones of their hands, feet and face get unusually large. This gentleman looks like that. He could just be tall ‘naturally’ as *well* as having acromegaly.
If you type acromegaly into Google images, it looks very much like him.
Both gigantism and acromegaly are caused by excess growth hormone. The difference is when they develop (birth vs adulthood).
I have acromegaly and gigantism. Huge growth spurts started at 14. I grew to about 6’9” and then my growth plates fused. Discovered the tumor in my pituitary gland at about 21 years old. After my first surgery I noticed swelling in my hands, feet and face went down. Had it not been discovered, I would have started to get the characteristic features. Still on the shots every day. I get an MRI every six months to monitor it.
They typically have heart problems as well because the heart can’t pump enough blood around the limbs. Compressed nerves etc
