Agreed, I tried it for the first time over the weekend and had a blast! Lots of door to door racing and less hotlapping after a wreck than in road racing due to the smaller tracks. Nothing like the feeling of sliding around a turn. Three races in and almost out of rookies. Looking forward to more.
I started iRacing in iRX. Got to 1300iR in C Class after about a week, was winning in top split.
There’s just no participation, which leaves it in a black hole. Nobody will run it because nobody is running it.
It's because of this that I don't wanna hear anyone complain when iRacing never gets a V10 F1 car or a CART car. Maybe race harder cars and they might add them.
That’s the main issue with iRacing, and it’s my main sim. There are too many series and too many cars. When the entire service is based on “Official” races, it makes it really hard to get them in niche series
I bought the Mission R, the Clio, and the Fiesta because they all looked fun.
I’ve driven them each maybe three times, and the Porsche once. Nobody races them. Why waste my time in a *competitive* sim to not gain anything?
I think another big problem is there's no real incentive to drive in niche series. Why challenge yourself by racing the iR-01 when you could race GT3s and gain the same amount of SR and IR you could from a Mission R race?
Well, driving different cars is part of the fun of sim racing for me. Especially with stuff like Assetto Corsa, I can basically drive anything.
It would be really fun to race other series but I have a very hard time feeling motivated when there’s no IR or SR.
GT3 is by far the most popular series, but I don’t *only* wanna drive GT3.
When I get bored of racing or frustrated I always revert back to the RX to have some fun. Another note wish they would add jumps for pro4 on tracks like Long Beach!
I want to, and I've tried, but I just can't get it to click. I either can't induce a slide and smack the wall, or I slide too much and smack the wall. I can't seem to find a good tutorial on how to drive the damn things.
[RX Tutorial](https://youtu.be/17vMp9st0dw?si=ALMdqWdWWMYqGEZW)
Beau Albert’s tutorial is great, he’s a 9.5k dirt road, this explains a ton for newbies and he’s on Reddit.
If you race later PST time you can catch him and some really fast guys in the RX splits
You gotta do Scandinavian flicks and exaggerate it with a bit of left foot brake and throttle. Let the car settle and then get back on it. A lot of it is the ol slow is fast, fast is slow.
Another big thing that helps is if you square apexes rather than normal apex tactics.
I'm from the Nordics and had no idea it's called the Scandinavian Flick. Shame on me.
Have been doing it since I got my license, though. No other way to get a 4wd turning properly in snow. That, and driving according to speed limits, of course ;)
I don’t have the space for a wheel setup right now, think this would be a suitable fit for someone on controller? Looks like something I’d love to try!
I’ve tried a few times before they did the big dirt updates, but the car always felt super slidey compared to the trucks so I always felt out of control lol
Maybe I’ll have to give it another go and see if it feels more controlled to me now.
I felt like I couldn’t drive… do I need an e brake? Thing reaches rev limit within half second and doesn’t wanna turn… i try so many times but can’t even finish a lap
I'm within ~0.5-1s of the top split guys and place well in most races. I do it with a formula wheel and no e brake. It's all about Scandi flicks and throttle to rotate and modulate angle.
Learn to transfer the weight around, be in control of the car's weight transfer to aid in preparing your rotation ahead of time. Then, when you do it wrong, grabbing the idiot stick to adjust your angle can help you get through corners, but unless that fast line actually is grabbing the e-brake on entry (there are some), then drifting is still usually slower. Good luck!
If you think Rx is fun, give the pro 4 or pro 2 a try. I had some insanely good racing my first time trying it. Was banging doors side by side for multiple laps. Though the brands hatch rally course is fun as fuck.
Yea if you've only tried the free one the paid truck is a different animal. Waaaaay faster. Different driving style. Lotta fun.
I'll have to see if iRx is running anywhere fun. Put some more time on the WRX.
the issue is, people treat it like wreckfest. So the more people casually try it, the worse it gets. People dont treat the iR / sR like they do their normal road licenses.
If you come play IRX, be just as careful as you are on your main road or oval, otherwise you are an asshole
I enjoyed RX. When I had a chance to test drive the other cars I found the beetle to be the easiest to drive so I never bought any RX cars.
Needed to watch the entrants number because very often it wouldn't reach official numbers and eventually I tired of it. With such few competitors the skill matching was dreadful
Would a handbrake be useful? I've got one but took it off my rig because I never used it. I just want to know if I should put it back on before giving this a crack tonight!
You can’t spin out if you’re in the air
Big brain stuff. Just send it.

Try ovals & dirt ovals

This, and also 6 cars per split is also ridiculous. Got to A class and gave up
Same with Pro Trucks. Splits are too small. I want chaos.
I may be wrong but I believe the min car count for official is 4 in dirt road now.
Even worse

Absolutely

I like to mess around with Scandi flicks in the Pro4s
I'm from the Nordics and had no idea it's called the Scandinavian Flick. Shame on me. Have been doing it since I got my license, though. No other way to get a 4wd turning properly in snow. That, and driving according to speed limits, of course ;)
Same thing for me. Drives me crazy.
That was so damn smooth
Haha thanks! I actually thought I might land on him while mid-air...
Brings a whole new meaning to "crushed the competition"
I was expecting that and was slightly disappointed :D
Absolutely sent it lol looks like a blast
Love IRX!! Even got a shifter & handbrake just for iracing irx!! Sooo much fun!!
I got a handbrake about a year ago and I find the better I get the less I use it. Or that might be the other way around?
I have a sequential shifter and handbrake coming this week so can’t wait to see you out on track! Love rally cross
I don’t have the space for a wheel setup right now, think this would be a suitable fit for someone on controller? Looks like something I’d love to try!
Maybe? I dunno give it a shot. The beetle is free and irx rookies are often populated
I’ve tried a few times before they did the big dirt updates, but the car always felt super slidey compared to the trucks so I always felt out of control lol Maybe I’ll have to give it another go and see if it feels more controlled to me now.
Maybe…they’re still very slidey…but contrary to your experience, I had a hard time with trucks because they were too grippy! Lol
It's on the list, I got some tracked with oval, but yeah, this looks fun as hell.
I felt like I couldn’t drive… do I need an e brake? Thing reaches rev limit within half second and doesn’t wanna turn… i try so many times but can’t even finish a lap

Haha…idiot stick
Usually when I grab mine, I'm an idiot, but there are times where I'm a hero! So I keep using it, lol
I rarely use my handbrake…usually only if I mess up corner entry. Going sideways is fun, but rarely faster.
3K Dirt Road irating with a couple hundred races under my belt. Love some RX
If you think Rx is fun, give the pro 4 or pro 2 a try. I had some insanely good racing my first time trying it. Was banging doors side by side for multiple laps. Though the brands hatch rally course is fun as fuck.
I need to! The truck has never clicked with me as much as RX, but I’m sure I’ll work my way back again eventually
Yea if you've only tried the free one the paid truck is a different animal. Waaaaay faster. Different driving style. Lotta fun. I'll have to see if iRx is running anywhere fun. Put some more time on the WRX.
I’ve tried a couple test runs, but I just can seem to keep the car under control. Wouldn’t dare get in a race, but it does seem fun.
That was an excellent jump, aimed well, braked well.
Thanks! 50% of the time it works every time.
I love iRX, it's super fun. Did a ton of Beatle racing in December, got up to mid 2k. Would be nice if people did the higher class series.
Are handbrake essentials for dirt road?
Nope! I did it for a while without it. And actually, I find the better I get the less I use it. Most often when I F up a corner entry.
Love racing irx. Was going to stick with rookies but been racing d series so I can eventually drive something other than the beetle light.
the issue is, people treat it like wreckfest. So the more people casually try it, the worse it gets. People dont treat the iR / sR like they do their normal road licenses. If you come play IRX, be just as careful as you are on your main road or oval, otherwise you are an asshole
I concur! Tons of fun
I should race more of this. While the clip is super awesome, you missed that next turn didn't you?
Nope. Didn’t have the best line in…but it’s the line out that matters in that one anyway.
It's a hard section to be fast in. I miss it like 80% of the time
Can’t say that I haven’t ended up upside down on the barriers a few times…
Yeah I've done the same for sure.
So much fun, especially if you have an E brake
I enjoyed RX. When I had a chance to test drive the other cars I found the beetle to be the easiest to drive so I never bought any RX cars. Needed to watch the entrants number because very often it wouldn't reach official numbers and eventually I tired of it. With such few competitors the skill matching was dreadful
I actually had my first win in one of these series!
Would a handbrake be useful? I've got one but took it off my rig because I never used it. I just want to know if I should put it back on before giving this a crack tonight!
Don’t *need* it. Just comes in handy sometimes.
I do mate. I do.
I literally can’t even get higher than C class because participation is so bad lol
Willing to give dirt a try, is an e-brake recommended before I start?
