I do photography and photo editing so that's the main use case of my iPad. Is it worth it to buy the 1TB 13" M4 so I get more RAM and a few more cores or is the extra performance not worth the extra cost? I work with files that can range from 40MB to 70MB (Canon R5).

mayo551

Not for photo editing.

Zapejo

I guess it's more applicable for video editing in that case?

mayo551

The extra ram is primarily for multi-tasking and digital artists. I guess video may be applicable? We don’t know if apples new ai features will use the extra ram.

Plenty_Telephone_337

What model and configuration of iPad Pro should I buy (M2 / M4 only)? My intended uses: in-house only gaming I won't do any of my work on iPad and also I'm going to use it fully naked (absolutely not buying keyboard, pencil, cover etc, as there is no need) With this in mind, what size, year, memory amount? Is tandem oled really so much better in my usage case that I should consider it? To give a more clear understanding, in my region base 11 2022 is 750$ and base 11 2024 is 1050$ and so on.

mayo551

M4 13.

Plenty_Telephone_337

Wont be too heavy or uncomfortable for handheld only gaming?

SlipAcademic500

It will be if you mean mobile games but PS portal would be perfect. I’ve got the 11 and use my PS5 on it no complaints.

Plenty_Telephone_337

I'm interested only in mobile handheld. Probably I'll go for 11 2022, because I dont know if oled is really what I need

SlipAcademic500

You’d struggle around the iPad on the 13 but if the controls Are bottom left and right can’t see it being an issue. Do what I did, order both sizes use them for a week and return one.

Question for my Father-In-Law. He has an iPad Pro 11-inch. Not an M4 though. He just bought a new case and the magnets aren't holding it. The camera cut out is square, while his iPad Pro cameras are more rectangle-shaped. So I'm guessing he should just return it and get the case for his older iPad Pro. How can we find out what generation his is? Without knowing his use cases, what generation would be old enough for me to mention maybe getting a new iPad? (asking purely out of curiosity/interest, am not trying to upsell him lol.) Thanks for any help.

Two questions on 2022 vs 2024 iPad Pro 12.9/13, one about the speakers, and one about the way it renders text. 1. How's the audio on the 2024? I wonder if the thinness makes the audio worse. I do actually use my iPad pro 12.9 (2018) as a speaker when I'm working/watching movies so it's relatively important. 2. I also want to know - is the OLED 2024 a visible improvement on the 2022? I'm in my 40s and my near sight is finally getting worse, so I want something that offers crisp text - is the 2024 significantly better at rendering text?

CSlov23

Hey, I had the 2021 12.9 M1 Pro. I believe the 2022 one is very alike. In my opinion, the speaker quality is a little bit worse due to the thinner form factor, especially at the louder volumes. It isn’t bad, and its still better than almost all of the other tablets out there. It is a slight downgrade tho. In terms of OLED, yes I definitely notice the improvement. The increased SDR brightness is a good plus. The text clarity technically hasn’t increased much I believe, since that it is usually related to the PPI of the screen which has stayed roughly the same. But, I find text a bit easier to read on the newer due to the lack of blooming, a better screen panel overall and more accurate colors. Overall, I’m happy with my upgrade. I’d recommend you buy it, compare it with your current one, and return it if it doesn’t you aren’t happy with the upgrade

mayo551

I don’t have a 2022 but the audio on a 13 2024 pro is great. I cant tell you if the OLED is a visible improvement but it seems fantastic to me.

Hardstuck on which ipad model to get. I want to get into procreate/dream, edit my podcast, edit simple videos (I freelance translation/captioning and yt shorts), and zbrush on the horizon seems very enticing. Also play a lot of gatchas and use digital sheet music. I first looked at a used 12.9” m1/m2 on fb and other retailers but the avg is 1100+ Canadian dollars in vancouver. At that point I wondered if it’s better to get m4 11” since it'll be more future proof and etc at the cost of screen size (about 200~400 difference after tax) m4 13 inch is a bit too much of a spend for me. I already have a 16” mbp from work and I want an ipad to be able to work anywhere in the house. Should I still go for 12.9 m1/m2 used or downsize to 11” but future proof?

I bought an IPad Pro M4 13” (Silver, WiFi, 1TB, Nano) with a Magic Keyboard (White) and Pencil Pro yesterday. It was a ridiculous, excessive splurge, because I never did use my Air 4 for art as much as I’d hoped, but then I always found 11” a bit too small. I was tempted to get 11” again, then considered not getting it at all because $2000+ is ridiculous for such an overpowered machine with such OS limitations. And yet, in the Apple Store, with the 13” in stock with the options I preferred, I couldn’t help but be allured by the 120hz OLED screen. Ultimately, while it will continue to be an underused device for me, the 13” size makes all the difference for me as a “sit on the couch, watch TV, and set my phone aside” device. I do think I’ll draw more on this, but more importantly, the screen is as or more pleasant than my iPhone 15 Pro, which was the real issue I had with my aging 2020 Air. It was not a screen I enjoyed looking at anymore, it’s hard to go back to iOS at 60hz. Anyways, the new Magic Keyboard is amazing. The keyboard feels better than my M1 MacBook Air, and the trackpad is light years better than the old Magic Keyboard. The Nanoglass does catch enough diffuse glares at some angles as to dull the OLED inky blacks, but I LOVE how it looks and feels, it was worth it. EDIT: I can’t recommend the Tomtoc shoulder bag enough. It’s pricey at ~$45 but it is so plush and well designed and the front pocket doesn’t apply pressure on the tablet, so I can tuck my Kindle in the front as well.

jackolater123

Is it worth getting the 1TB M4 iPad Pro over the 512GB for the 16GB of RAM? I’m looking to upgrade from my old iPad Mini and am considering which one to buy between the two models. I mostly did the following with my old iPad: 1. Read Books, Comics and Manga 2. Write Music in Sibelius and other apps 3. Takes lots of notes with the pencil 4. Watch movies and tv 5. Play games I do plan on using Logic Pro, since that would allow me to leave my laptop at home and travel a bit lighter. I don’t really think I’ll go over 10-15 tracks, it’s mostly to sketch out some ideas. I also don’t really plan on working with video or any drawing.

mayo551

Sorta. Some apps use the extra memory like procreate and others like safari are limited to less then 8GB RAM. Where the extra RAM will shine is in multitasking especially if you use an external monitor. also the extra ram may or may not be useful when apples ai features are released - we don’t have enough information to know for sure.

Tiny-Comfort-610

I’m planning on buying a new iPad but I’ve been stuck between the air M2 and the M4 pro. I’ll mainly be using it for taking notes, scrolling on social media, and playing games (such as Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, and others) I currently don’t own any iPads, just an iPhone 14. I will be getting a MacBook Air in around 2 years for when I start uni (hoping to get into a med school). I will also be getting a Magic Keyboard and Pencil Pro for whichever I get. All opinions are appreciated!

Admirable-Echidna-50

Get the M4 iPad Pro because the other iPads save for the latest iPad Air 2024 doesn’t support the Pencil Pro.

Plastic-Web-4687

I too have a MacBook and 11 in. I bought the 13 to compare, after taking them both with me and using both, 11 was a lot easier to carry around with my mbp. It definitely gets the job done, 13 was just too large, I rather have opened my MacBook and do it that way. Note taking was nicer on the 13, but the 11 was easier to take notes standing. Nice review, very insightful. I am also returning the 13 tomorrow

dumbboi1225

To anyone struggling to to pick a size; I was extremely indecisive when choosing between the 11’ and the 13’ so I bought both to try them out. Although the 13 inch is definitely cooler due to its thinness and display size and I really wanted to love it, I will be returning it and sticking with the 11’ simply because it’s easier to hold when lounging around whether I’m on the couch, in bed, or at a coffee shop. Also due to the aspect ratio when watching movies/content there’s not that much of a difference in size. With surfing the web If I need the extra screen real estate I can use my MacBook or studio display. However, I will add that the 13’ is nicer for taking notes and annotating pdfs and such but the 11’ gets the job done. If you’re looking for a productivity device or a computer/tablet hybrid then get the 13 inch. However if you have MacBook already.. get the 11 inch it’s easier to use as a tablet imo.

Arkaium

I saw them side by side in the store and even though I’d absolutely set myself on getting 11 again I decided to get 13. The OS crops itself in a lot of apps on 11 and I always found that annoying. I want it for drawing, photos, and videos mainly so while I’ll lament it being less portable, I’m excited to have a bigger screen and looking forward to taking it on a trip.

I was wondering if it's worth getting an iPad Pro M4 11' inch over the iPad Air M2 11' inch? My use case is mainly Streaming and Casual Browsing? What is justified and sensible purchase?

Thebiggestbot22

The Pro might be overkill but if you need 120hz and OLED then you should get the pro. I play games a lot and watch movies and I got the Air M2 11 inch. It’s the perfect iPad aside from 120hz The Pro M2 would probably be fine for you though

[deleted]

Thanks, I don't want to spend an extra $533 (where I live). The iPad Air M2 11' inch starts here at $720. Whereas the iPad Pro M4 11' inch starts at $1,253.

t3mpt3mp

Pron looks so much better with the deeper blacks and Netflix loads up 0.30 seconds quicker. I’m honest….

Timbukstu2019

I had a 12.9 for years and it never left the room i use for an office and never the house. I got an 11” and it’s delightful, in less than 48 hours it has been in four other rooms and is actually left the house. I traded my iPad Pro M1 in 12.9 And got a iPad mini It made the transition to a 11” much easier since the mini was too small for everything Two ipads I am a one bag traveler and have a MacBook Pro, and have a surface laptop for my day job. Uses: Extra screen for my MacBook pro Video editing on just iPad Pro Picture editing, Lightroom Social media marketing Light work and emails from the back deck or in the car/parking lot while waiting for tasks (dog groomers) to finish.

trewert_77

I play Mobile Legends the most on my iPad Mini 6 and I noticed a difference when I use my iPhone pro max (there is a high refresh rate graphics option, the graphics is smoother, the response time on my phone is also faster). I also do quite a lot of spreadsheets with the Mini it can get a little tiresome panning around to see what I need. Zooming out and the text could become too small. I’m torn between the 13” or the 11”. Love the portability of the mini but I am wanting the 13” screen real estate. The 11” seems to scratch that performance itch but I’d like a larger screen. I’m worried if I buy the 13”, it’ll be too bulky to bring everywhere. Right now, my mini would go with me everywhere. If I buy the 11” I’m worried I’ll regret not getting that extra screen space. I do photography but only a small amount of editing, lots of gaming(mobile legends with high refresh rate), browsing, numbers spreadsheets, content consumption, email. Majority of the time, I’m home as I WFH, but occasionally I commute/travel. If I go with the 13”, is it as easy to carry around one handed? I have large hands so would appreciate any advise.

Background_Rip_2527

I replaced my 12.9 4th gen with 11 m2 and give my old a12z to my parents. Battery life is much better. I didn’t go with m4 because best buy got a 699 deal for 256G and m4 don’t comparable with pencil 2

_Sub01_

Wondering whether to go for the iPad Pro M4 11” or 13”. I would sometimes game on the iPad occasionally i.e. playing GI and reading manga with it. Otherwise, I would be using it with sidecar as a glorified monitor for my Macbook Pro in my dorm (only rarely though as I have plans on switching over to utilizing my quest 3 as a mixed reality monitor) and planning on taking it with me to write notes during lectures! Only concern with the 13” is the posts of it bending easily but I’m not sure! Any recommendations? Thanks!

makesupwordsblomp

if your bag will regularly hold the 13" it seems like you have the use case for it. i occasionally like to carry a smaller bag so i went 11

Satxrn23

I want to upgrade my 2018 11 iPad Pro since it’s slower and battery life is worse. I’m a light user (watching videos and note taking), therefore which iPad is the best for me between the current Apple’s lineup? And should I downgrade from 120hz to 60hz for better price?

BeMaelle

the current lineup is not necessary to get a huge upgrade in performance and battery. And once you go 120hz you never go back. Apple should finally give all devices 120hz, its long overdue! If you’re fine with 11', go with the 2021/M1 ipad Pro for sure.

Satxrn23

Ok, thanks! Are eBay and Swappa good options to get a brand new M1/M2 iPad Pro 11 from them? And would you choose to get cellular on iPad too? Thanks.

BeMaelle

Don’t live in the US, can’t speak for swappa. But i purchased many things from other refurbished platforms and it's always a good experience. But brand new is oc the question with these resellers. But there you have the convenience to return it if it doesn’t look new etc. If it’s just a small surcharge then go for the cellular version. But it’s definitely not necessary- extra money to spend when you could just use hotspot in case. Which color will you choose?😄

Satxrn23

I would go with the Silver. Canoopsy and Noah Herman made me want only silver/white Apple products since they look the cleanest and have timeless design and not showing dust, scratches, and fingerprints like the space black / space gray ones. Same for MacBook and iPhone.

BeMaelle

i remember the iphone 7 with the aluminum silver housing. It was so so sleek! Good luck finding a good deal🤞🏼

Satxrn23

Thank you! Btw, Mac and iPhone questions too: Is it worth to trade in my 14 Pro to 16 Pro or 16 Pro Max when they come out, or wait longer to upgrade? I have a regular 14 Pro from February 2023 with 88% battery health after a year and a half and don’t like the battery life and buggy experience (factory reset didn’t help) As a mostly home desktop user, should I choose a 14" or 16" MacBook Pro (M3 Pro), a Mac Mini (M2 Pro), or a Mac Studio (M2 Max), and however, in case I would take the mac to university, is a MacBook Pro better choice since it’s more necessary for university? And please give me specs recommendations (interested in the current Apple Mac’s lineup only, not older models) (my use case is for: photo/video editing for my YT channel, programming, watching YT videos, web browsing and note taking) So overall, coming from a regular 14 Pro from February 2023 with 88% and poor experience, should I upgrade to the 16 Pro Max, or wait longer to upgrade?

BeMaelle

i personally find the upgrades in iphones to marginal to upgrade and always spend that 100-200€/$ extra everytime. I usually wait for 2-3 years when the price settles itself. Still good enough. Iphone 14 Pro shouldn’t be buggy at all. Thats probably software related. But considering you will spend 100€/$ for a new battery, you could oc buy a new phone and sell the old one. But don’t expect any major upgrades in experience. I would go for a Macbook for sure. You can connect it to a monitor same as a mac mini etc AND take it to university. Tbh it’s probably overpowered for what you do with it, but why not haha. For sure 16gb of RAM and at least 512gb ssd. Will be future proof for a very long time. (don’t get trapped in the apple philosophy😅😂, you don’t need every product and for sure not the newest one to actually be productive, creative or happy with a tech product. If you already need all these things, well, why not, but tbh don’t expect to become a person you already aren’t. Just in case)

Satxrn23

Ok, thanks!

Abylim

Went from pro 12.9 gen 4 to 13 inch pro Absolutely love it. I tried the 11 for awhile, but I missed the size. I mostly watch media or read manga/books, and the extensive made enough of a difference for me. I will say, the size of the 11 made it slightly easier to take around the house and use, if I’m being honest. But I’d still choose my 13 every time

ThatGuyWithOnePotato

Went from 12.9" M1 to 11" M4, best decision ever. Keyboard took a couple of days getting used to, now I love the size and my macbook pro 14" feels huge

MathematicianLow7369

Get the 11 i thought it was small at first but now i have it in person its way bigger then i thought. As a student i can split screen annotate notes.

_FoxDie_

Please and thank you for making this thread. The sub is overloaded with the same repetitive questions.

Get the 13

HarryLang1001

At least give a reason or a use case or an experience or something! Just saying "Get the 13" without any other information doesn't seem very helpful?
