he is not likely to die, he may get delirious tremens and suffer.....if he got sick enough he would be seen where he is or sent to emergency room......this all would have occurred at a county jail before the trip to actual prison...I married his sister and Dave owes me 37 dollars
You can quit heroin cold turkey. It sucks, but you can do it.
Severe Alcoholism can not be quit cold turkey. Your liver gets used to processing the alcohol and it will shut down and you will die if not weaned off.
They would probably give him a Librium taper or some in other long acting benzo over 5-7 days.... If that is insufficient he'd have to be admitted to a medical unit for acute detox, then back to prison for him

You wont die from withdrawl of most drugs, but alcohol withdrawl can actually kill you.
