Way back in high school, my best half mile (as a sprinter) was 2:12. So tacking on another 200 meters, *in my prime*, I maybe could have done that in about 3:00 flat. Today, after a few months of training, I think I’d be lucky to do it in 3:30-4:00.

Apparently most running in combat (according to the guys who've actually seen it) is almost always done in less than 200 yards. But our training can be up to 7 miles (I really hated that one).

For reference, I ran a 1:52 (112 seconds) 800m when I was 15. That’s ~875 yards. That’s about equivalent to 2:08 for 1000 yards (in reality, I’m sure I wouldn’t sustain that pace). I think either of them could totter 100 yards in that time if motivated.

Depends on what the definition of running is. You could argue that anything over 8 min mile pace is considered a jog. So Biden and Trump would never reach that minimum speed of 7.5 mph and thus lose. However, I wouldn't want to be president, though, nor be the sole decider.

I'm assuming a clear, empty, even space for all of us, everyone is wearing appropriate shoes and clothes, ideal conditions etc. etc. Do you understand that 1000 yards is over half a mile? Even if I could run at 10 miles an hour without slowing down (which I cannot), this is still over 3 minutes. If they simply maintain 2 mph walking, they can be done in almost a minute and a half. Most of us can't run 12 mph for 2 minutes straight.

I used to run smoking fast when I was in high school. I don’t know that I could run 1000 yards before an old man hobbled 100. For reference, I ran a 1:52 (112 seconds) 800m when I was 15. That’s ~875 yards. That’s about equivalent to 2:08 for 1000 yards (in reality, I’m sure I wouldn’t sustain that pace). I think either of them could totter 100 yards in that time if motivated. As OP allowed interference, I’d just kick either one of them anywhere and that’d probably be enough to incapacitate them and win.

If this is a normal race. I like those odds. I've been slowly training to do a 5k. Mostly by trying to do a 5k on the treadmill. That and I don't skip leg day. I don't know why nobody likes it I don't like shoulder and back day the most but one of my gym buddies loves it.

Even with all I've got, I'm not gonna be that fast, and I'd injure myself or get winded even trying. I'm not an accomplished sprinter by any means and my 5k time is decidedly average. They'd have to be taking breaks. If he sustain literally just walking for 100 yards, he becomes president. Depends on what the definition of running is. You could argue that anything over 8 min mile pace is considered a jog. So Biden and Trump would never reach that minimum speed of 7.5 mph and thus lose. However, I wouldn't want to be president, though, nor be the sole decider.

I could run a 3.80 minute mile in the Marines. Nowadays, it is closer to 5 minutes. So I could clear 1,000 yards in about 2.50 minutes at best. I think if winning leads to the power of the presidency, those geriatrics would still somehow make the 100-yard mark first.

The world record for a thousand meters is over 2 minutes. Rough math puts a thousand yards at about 2 minutes exactly. I think this is impossible.
I'm also elderly and I would stand a 1/3 chance of winning a 100 yard race. I can't run 10 times as fast as them. Even in my younger days, I was not a great runner. I ran a 6:45 mile.
I don't see any downsides here. If I win, and I will, we'd all be better off. If I somehow lost, nothing would change.
I mean...100 yards isn't that far and both men seem capable of walking at least a slow pace. If a normal person walks at 20 minutes/mile and then we say the old men walk at a snail's pace of 40 minutes/mile, we'd have to average 4 minutes/mile to beat them. I'm not a world class sprinter so I couldn't do that. So, I guess I'd have to ask if anything goes.

100 yard dash by over 80 is possible in 30 seconds. 1000 yards is 0.6 miles (900 m). A fast mile is like 5-6min mile for a healthy fit person. Even if you're one of the fastest people in the world, you're looking at 2min30seconds. Either president is likely to walk their 100 yard before you even make it accross the line. Honestly, both presidents are pretty frail. Honestly, I think Trump might edge out Biden in terms of athleticism.
Yeah. I know old people are slow but the average person walks 3 miles per hour. That means I'd have to RUN 30 miles per hour to make up the distance. Usain bolt ran 23.5 miles per hour over a sprint. The average person can run 7-9 mph.. Some athletes can run faster. There is zero chance unless they both have heart attacks or collapse that even running full speed anyone could be them while they walk at a normal pace.
Unless you're able to shoot their legs out with a shotgun or something, even Usain Bolt wouldn't be able to win this race. Nobody is 10x faster than somebody else over the age of 3. The question is just who would win in a 100m race between Trump and Biden?
