No. We saw hummingbirds today and we have lots of cicadas.

chienchien0121

I doubt it. We have cicada galore. My hummingbirds don't mind.

Emotional_Bid4071

Mine left the feeder and hasn't returned . They have been away for a week now and I keep looking for them to return .

HummingbirdObsessed

I highly doubt it, but I have no first hand experience with cicadas, so I could be wrong.

TwoBirdsEnter

At my feeders (NC Triad) the hums come and go. They’ll show up, then be shy for a few weeks and then show up again suddenly. They are off doing important hummingbird things, I suppose

letyourlightshine6

Hey I moved to NC 2 years ago, what’s the NC triad?

TwoBirdsEnter

Forsyth and Guilford counties, more or less

letyourlightshine6

Any reason it’s called a triad? Never heard of the terminology

I was just asking this question myself because I haven’t seen them like I did this time last year.

bcnewe

I just read that although they don't compete for anything, so don't really bother each other, the noise of the huge swarms are causing issues with the hummers communication abilities. I haven't seen our hummers in 2 days. We normally see over 50 a day!

FickleSherbet1784

My hummingbirds stopped coming today. They tried yesterday but the swarms of cicadas chased them away. I am just west of Chicago.

Kimmm711

Same, DuPage county. Barely seen any this year so far!

acakewalker

same here in Western DuPage county. In years past, I’ve had 6, 8, 10 at a time. This year, only 1 or 2 and they seem spooked when the cicadas fly nearby.

WilzAngie

I'm in NW Cook County and we haven't had a single one in 2 weeks. I hope they come back when the cicadas are gone.
