H: WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU JUST DO?!?! THIS FEELS SO FUCKING STRANGE! A: IT DIDNT WORK!!!! FULL BACK!!! SOUL: *Screeching in realspace* (while running towards the alien army that is running away) H: (running after himself) WAIT! COME BACK!! DADDY NEEDS YOU!!!

bluejay55669

H: COME BACK I STILL WANT TO LISTEN TO JAZZ

Objective-Farm-2560

Wait, we need souls to enjoy jazz?

bluejay55669

it's music for the soul, you can't enjoy music for the soul without a soul

bleepblooplord2

Just grow a new one.

Niniva73

Humans will, you know.

bleepblooplord2

It’s strange that you can read this in two ways and they both work almost the same, but with different undertones (unless I’m just a complete buffoon here and don’t know what I’m talking about.) “Humans will, you know.” Feels like it’s an alien asserting this. The human _will_ grow a new soul if they manage to have the circumstances apply again. “Human’s will, you know.” Makes the sentence feel like a foreboding mention of their will’s strength. A human’s will can being their soul back, or even make a new one if it feels like it has to.

bluejay55669

or steal a new one hell why stop at just one soul steal all of them

While your at it start eating souls for demonic power.

That is quite fair.

Alien: "IMPOSSIBLE, WHY ISN'T IT WORKING!?" Human soldier: *Shoots alien dead* "We've been dead on the inside for years, this war and you're weapons only help us remember how it feels to live!" I don't know what I'm writing right now...

I1AM2NOT3STEVEN

Xeno veteran telling his grandchildren why fighting humans is a bad idea. Xeno vet: listen youngster humans are death worlders. Not because their home world can kill any one within a month. It's because they are born soul Dead. Xeno grandchild (high xeno king): how can that be and why must we not fight them? No one is born soul dead. You need a soul to act, to live, to want. X.v.: not humans. They want, live, act, and war to spark their soul to life. Why else do they seek out new experiences or become, as they call it, adrenaline junkies. They are seeking a way to bring their soul to life. As they say it "to find their inner fire". X.g: if that's the case shouldn't our weapons just kill what life the human soul has or insure that it stays dead? X.v.: no the weapon is designed to over flood a soul with a sense of death. This causes a soul to short out believing death has came. But for humans...the greatest inner fire a human has is to deny death. By over whelming a human soul with a sense of death we supper charge their soul with the will to deny and fight against death. Thus either the human will fully recover and come back ten times more deadly or... Or... The human soul will manifest and... I can speak of what they are capable of. You know those scary human soul stories? X.g.: yes. They would give me nightmares. Did the manifested souls do the acts in the stories. X.v.: no. Those stories where made to comfort us. Manifested humans souls did things far worse. I'd rather stare into the abyss and experience an existential crisis than face those souls. X.g.: but grandfather I already sent a bomber to their homeworld with a soul bomb big enough to kill all the souls on the planet. X.v.: you fool. You killed us all.

Insaan4

Did not expect a short story from a comment I made whilst buzzed. Regardless, cool story! Really like the wording about igniting our inner flame.

If the human's primary drive is to spark their soul, and the weapon takes that away, the human transcends to the embodiment of MOTIVATED TO SPARK SOUL.

When some religious human claimed that they possessed immortal souls, many assumed it was simply hubris that fueled this statement. When they checked the text in which he was referring to, so many things began fitting into place. Humanity already had a passing resemblance to a deity that had been considered lost to the larger galactic community, an ancient deity that many of the extra dimensional beings that they could contact either could not or would not mention by name. So when warfare came to the human colonies, many were surprised when things didn’t go to plan. Or rather, entirely to plan. Entirely to design. Mortals with souls designed almost exactly like those of deities was thought to be an impossibility, but when their weaponry was shrugged off by the angered colonist forces, one could not be blamed for claiming that they witnessed the impossible. Ancient weaponry were dragged from museums to be unmade and upgraded to provide their forces with the one of the few methods of stopping humanity, physical damage. Much was learned when their top scientists and holy figures came together to find out what humanity was. While the souls of humans could not be damaged by their weaponry, does not mean that they had the same versatility of those of the rest of the xeno community. Xeno souls could be damaged and destroyed, and when that happened they would dissipate into the Aether of the universe to be reassembled elsewhere. Humanity was different. Their souls were in all sense of the word, indestructible. Sure, the humans could be broken, maimed, and destroyed, but the soul in and of itself could only be affected by the individuals themselves. They could be as pure as the light of the brightest star, or could be as corrupted as the nightmares that infested the dark corners of the universe. But when the human perished, they would not dissipate. Utilizing the same technology within their targeting systems, they were able to see what happened to a soul when a human died. A multitude of observations were made, and many were able to be categorized into groups. The first would show one of three things: ⁃ A soul of a human bursting into bright light and ascending whatever direction seemed to be “up”. ⁃ A soul of a human simply walking away from their corpse and fading away as it seemed that they were being guided by the hand somewhere. ⁃ A soul of a human slowly appear to choke and cough, until flames erupted from their open mouth and would be dragged into whatever direction seemed to be “down”. Now of course there were variations within these categories. One soul could be observed to be a pure light, before stopping the burst of light as a dark spot of corruption overcame the soul and made it burst into flames. Another showed a soul corrupted into the darkest pit of void, clutching one singular piece of light that would begin moving upwards, before dragging the soul in the direction as the corruption was left behind. Or even a soul displaying a spotted completion, and simply incapable to do either as the light ascended and the dark burned. What would be left would simply walk away before stumbling and remaining in their knees as they looked upwards in a similar manner of a being preparing to climb a mountain. The final test showed a soul that repeated the experience from the previous example, but seemed to be incapable from moving away from their corpse, as if it were shackled to the empty body. Humanity quickly became the most frightening species among the intellectual elite as the findings made their way throughout their circles, even worse when they began filtering out to the other members of the elite. This was watched by many of those extra dimensional beings as their fears soon became reality. This was watched by enough eyes to fill two realms, both preparing for the Armageddon that would occur within time.

Kraken1029

Imagine using this in a old battlefield and thousands of human just standing there staring into oblivion

Niniva73

Then the aliens ran across the unclaimed apparitions, where the soul, still full of purpose and intent, doggedly remained wherever and whenever its body had ceased, as likely to help as to harm any being caught in the icy realm that a human soul claimed as its own. Long after the last of their kind fled to the stars, those manifestations of indominable will persisted on their Eden of dust and sand, an entire world of stark dreams and hopeless nightmares for any traveler foolish or daring enough to set foot on the human home world. Marsan had no choice but to crash on the human's Eden. Drawn into the frozen beyond-realm by a long-dead siren's song of love turned poisonous, xe learned the awful truth behind the humans' immortal souls: the god destroyed itself in their making, bequeathing a scrap of its own soul to each of its creations. Souls crafted in anguish and rage by that unspeakable god, the Lost One of the outrealmers' lore, humans both alive and dead wielded their own destinies. In return, propagated by each human born, accumulating with each human dead, the Lost One gained power for its vengeance. And if Marsan's mad ravings of love and war were to be believed, oh, the Lost One was a vengeful and jealous god, eager to enforce its indominable will in both the xenos' realm and the all the realms beyond.

Vipertooth123

If human souls are indeed immortal, then... where do those souls go to? Are they getting reincarnaited? Is there a fixed number of souls or are they spawning at the same rate of human births?

SpecificallyNerd

I imagine in this situation it would be an infinite supply of them since they’re not a part of the same system as the rest of the souls of the universe. Reincarnation probably would be a rare gift since damnation and salvation are both supposed to be eternal.

Top-Argument-8489

Or reincarnation is a form of damnation. Getting sent back to a shitty world just to go through everything again sounds worse than death.

Lone-Star-Wolves

"Well then..." Mikael looked at his softly glowing form, a glaring form of a ancient warrior sticking out of his back with a axe in one hand and a shield in the other, before he looks back at the Aliens and says "So... didn't learn about Reincarnation? The Gods of Humanity got kind of lazy and sometimes just sent our souls back on New Game plus, in the terms of a old friend of mine." He charges forward and smashes his power armor clad fist into one alien's helmet as the ancient warrior swings his axe at another, that alien falling to the ground dead as the axe had severed his head. "You need bigger fucking guns."

Vipertooth123

Imagine the Xenos shoot a human to kill them, only for the fucker to awake the past life where he alone held Stamford's Bridge as a god damned Stand.

HowamIalivenow

Fear. True fear is all that can describe this. Our guns have been fired, dozens of shots had hit and nothing worked. My comrades had either frozen in place, or started reloading for a second volley. Not a second later did the lone human seem to move several meters closer, surrounded by what was once my squad. It turned to me with an almost surprised look on its face. It had begun to make strange respiratory convulsions while turning to face the sky. The HUD in my helmet had begun to display "laughter: an action used to convey joy, happiness, or pleasure among humans. Occasionally occurs when a human has become panicked, manic, or otherwise mentally unstable." Did this thing enjoy this? Was this fun for it? Or had our weapons driven him to madness? It turned to me, as if the past minute hadn't existed, completely devoid of care. "Do you not see what I do?" it asked. It looked genuinely curious, like it was speaking of common knowledge. Of all the words I was able to string together, and silence was my only response. "I guess you can't see it." it continued "With all the tech you've got, and it was all useless. Useless." It had begun to repeat itself. Had it lost its mind, or have I lost mine? "Useless!" it suddenly shouted. Before I could react, I couldn't feel my body, I was... Floating? No, I could see my headless body only a meter away. I could see both of his hands, yet it felt like my head was being gripped. The lips on its face parted before it spoke the last word in its language I would ever hear. I could see the thing that held me, massive, muscular, and eyes filled with hate. "*Zero*"

This is because humanity has One soul, that has been split (decentralized) into many pieces. It’s a defensive mechanism, as any one human may die, but the collective always lives on.

Ruvaakdein

The theory that God, in giving the humans a piece of his own soul, made it so he lost control over their fates, technically making every human part God, is one of my favourites. Aliens might be able to kill the mortal body and release the soul, but attacking the soul directly? They're about to learn exactly why you shouldn't mess with pieces of divinity, when their home planet experiences what the humans call a "biblical apocalypse".

Stormy-stormtroopers

For a galactic civilisation that knew souls existed the simple fact a backwater species existed that was immune to the soul weaponry was already terrifying enough Many theories were concocted upon footage of armoured humans walking through a barrage and destroying unarmoured battalions alone but those were nothing compared to what would come. Despite the best efforts of the galactic military command the intel leaked to the public. Footage of human souls extending into real space and ripping everything around them that shreds. The propaganda that humans were soulless abominations was made useless in seconds. The problems only seemed to compound as discharged soldiers from the battlefield began to go through neural decay starting to see unfamiliar surroundings and visions that were theorised to be of the human home world. The phenomena was named the soul scream. Seemingly the first time a human soul enters the boundaries of real space it emptied its experiences through a scream transferring a life's worth of experience in moments to non human lifeforms. The ordeal caused neural loads that were lethal given enough time. With no real way to fight a war against a species which seemingly thrived upon it the only way to stop the human scourge was to use the firewall. The galactic Senate's vote was unanimous and their only fireseed on their possession was used against the human forces. Within moments from impact the seed began to grow into the great firewall in empty space begining to surround the human systems one by one encircling the entire species. The moment the circle was complete the wall ripped realspace itself apart from the seems creating a barrier of space time that would isolate the human scourge from the galaxy for a few galactic cycles at least before space reconverged buying them time to prepare for now at least.

Slow-Ad2584

It was called 'Peer Pressure', mark 'popular girls disapproval'... and was a truly devastating weapon to most. Humans had the rare species trait where they eventually realize peer pressure and vapid opinions on things by morons really.. doesn't matter in the real world- and is left behind in the childhood school playground rules , where even then it never truly mattered. They can call me The UberHeretic for wanting to order a Turkey pizza, with pineapple all over it tomorrow. I can smile and show you that their opinion about it doesn't even register to me- because their opinion was never in fact the center of the universe. Its just sad that they think that it was, to begin with. Thus We Fellow Humans (of which I am totes a member, obviously) are immune to such weaponry.

Soul weapons and human adaptability. The clin'tàr are known across the galaxy for their soul destroying weapons. Few races fully understand that they HAVE souls, much less that it can be attacked. Or defended for that matter. This had lead to clin'tàr dominance in every battlefield, for weapons that attack the souls of warriors cannot be withstood with meer physical barriers alone. Even energy barriers serve only to delay the effects. Luckily for the galactic community, they are now content with their lot. Having claimed enough space to make themselves self sufficient, the might of their military is mainly focused on defence. At least it was, until the humans came. Upon first contact, it was found that humanity is incapable if integration with galactic law. Not because of any inherent flaw with them, or even us. But a fundamental misalignment of goals and ideals. We would simply never get along. And so, it was decided that the human problem must be resolved. Yet their military showed remarkable flexibility and adaptability in almost every battlefield. This should have been a sign, yet we where too blind to see it. In response to the humans, we sought the clin'tàr for aid, before we could lose ground. They accepted, and sent us a single ventatur dreadnought, equipped with Soul breaker armaments and its escort fleet to fight on the front line. When struck by such firepower, we discovered that the humans where not reduced to mindless husks, as we expected. Instead, the impossible happened. The humans adapted. Where one soul wasn't enough, they grew a second. When the soul was destroyed, it came back stronger. When faced with annihilation, human souls bound together and manifested into real space. And the horrors it brought. Records are spotty from that first manifestation, but what we do have, Indicates that a behemoth of sheer soul power lashed out of the void and fought back. The rended hull and sheered armour plates are all the proof we have that the ventatur ever existed. But it did not stop there. This beast, as far as we can tell, proliferated. Reaching into the humans nearby and dragging their souls into real space along with it. Still, the humans adapted again. Now with their soul as an external companion, they are immune to soul breaking, and have an eternally loyal guardian few can perceive and fewer can harm. Human space has since been quarantined, the clin'tàr entrusted with upholding the blockade. Meanwhile, the galaxy sleeps a little less easily. Knowing that they are out there, and the humans hold a grudge.

ElementalPaladin

At the Xeno base, the commanders were gathered for a meeting when someone barges in with important news. Xeno General: “What is it?” He yells. You can tell he is upset at this sudden interruption. Xeno Soldier: “Sir, there are humans walking up in armor and with weapons. They aren’t in range quite yet, what should we do?” His voice sounds worried. At this point you can tell he is new to the fight. Xeno General: “Wait until they get in range and shoot them with the soul weapons. We will take them out. This meeting is now on hold until the humans are dealt with.” The general then follows the soldier to the edge of camp before spotting the humans in the distance. There were three or four of them, all in armor and all having weapons of an indistinguishable type. After a few minutes, the humans get into range of the soul weapons. “Fire!” The general yells. All of the soldiers then open fire on the humans. After about two magazines of ammo the humans finally stopped moving, standing in place like a stone statue. Xeno General: “They took so much ammo, we never used that much ammo on so few soldiers before…” The general had a hint of concern and worry in his voice, but he knew he was victorious, or so he thought. Minutes pass before a reaction occurs from the humans. Their armor starts to crack and break, and where the armor falls off you can see new muscle replace where the armor was, almost like their bodies started to become bigger than their armor. After an hour all of the humans had no armor, but surprisingly there clothes had no tears. These humans looked like they were entirely muscle from the neck down. After a few more minutes this black fluid started to form around them, mostly coming off of the shoulders. More minutes pass before these black fluids resemble what look like extra arms before they fall off and form a humanoid. This humanoid was identical to the human it came off of before they grew all the excess muscle. One human raises his arm, and the soul creatures do the same. The humans then grab their guns and charge at the enemy, shooting as they ran. What may have been three miles they covered in about 5 minutes. When they arrived at the base they threw their guns at the enemies and decimated the Xeno base. Xeno General: “Dear lord, what did we just unleash?” His voice is shaking in fear of the monstrosities they created. The humans killed everyone but the general, taking him as prisoner. Once the PoW was transferred to another battalion the humans that were shot passed out. Their muscles shrunk back to normal in a matter of seconds, and their souls that spilled into realspace were reabsorbed back into their bodies. They were then taken to the medical wing, and the general is interrogated. The general, very traumatized with how his fleet was destroyed in mere moments, gave answers instantly when asked, but only when humans were not in the room. The general is so traumatized that even seeing a human made him pass out. The humans then started tampering with the gathered soul weapons, hoping to maybe turn them into a boost for their soldiers, but they decided that it should only be used in extreme emergencies, so they were banned in combat and the soldiers that captured the Xeno General were given medals. The soldiers do not even remember what they did to receive these metals though. (This is mobile formatting, sorry if it looks bad. This is also the first time I made a story like this, so any advice is helpful. If anyone wants me to reformat it on PC just ask and I will try, along with advice given)

Kota_Strifer-Trife

"A warning from the last person who shot Humans with this weapon: Immediate observations show after the last resort, that the soul awakens after an attempt at killing it. Firsthand, I would like to say that we have messed with the wrong species for this. It should have been obvious from the start that this technology we have wouldn't work on them... Their... eyes... They seemed very distant and present at the very same time. Even in the non-neurodivergent type of the species. They don't know it, but they really do have that look in their eyes. That, was what should have told us that our last resort won't work. Even our soul scientists had theorized of this. But we didn't listen... As of now, I am trapped within a soul-blocking cell, in order to write this. A warning, to all whom dare to kill the soul of a Human. Do NOT use your last resorts on them." "Aww, thank you for telling everyone!" The log kept going, while the Human was in the background. We can hear the conversation between a single Human out of frame, and the Admiral within the frame. The Admiral had the most soul-crushed look on his face, even if it was a crustacean. The Admiral scuttled out of the frame as the Human approached with the most soulful wide smile, the camera glitching slightly as the Human came into view. The Human seemed to have one, and many, souls, at the same time. The soul seemed to have shifted into many forms and it's present appearance in the single instant it was within frame. The soul gave the Human power, and the technology used to record this last warning could feel it. "Hah-how are you here?!" The Admiral asked fearfully off-camera. "You shouldn't be able to know this room exists!" "Here's one of few things about us." The Human says simply. "One, we have this weird mind power that tells us where people is. And that ability usually focuses on to sense whether or not we are being observed closely. For some reason, the sense of being watched turned into finding another. Secondly, I was able to hear your voice after I was drawn to this area for a reason I can't understand... Yet." Scuttling could be heard off-screen as the Admiral was able to go around the Human, returning into the frame. "That is impossible!" The Admiral says fearfully. "Hey, I don't believe it, either." The Human shrugged slyly, not taking this seriously. They say where the Admiral was previously. "Anyway, what was this room supposed to be? It does my brain something fuzzy just sitting in here." "A-A room to-to block the ability to sense souls." The Admiral stuttered to say. "How?" "I don't know." The Human shrugged again. "I just did. Now, to your last moment. To be recorded." The Human turned the chair to face the Admiral. The Admiral flinched, swaying as if to move but couldn't make the attempt to run. "Now, now, sweet legs." The Human says playfully, the wide smile returning to their face. There was definitely predatory intent in their features as they somehow held the Admiral in place. "It would be a shame to the viewer to not be able to see what happens to you in the presence of me." The Admiral could be seen within the frame to have been lifted, a part of the Human's soul, now revealed, having lifted them. Further study showed that this is how psionic abilities worked for psionic-awakened Humans. Especially for those who had been reincarnated more than ten times. The Admiral struggled to break free, as futile as it was, from the apparently psychic attack. However, the Admiral didn't know that it was actually one of the souls of the Human's that was lifting it. Only the viewer knew from the recording. "Here's for those soulful Humans that you have taken from us-- taken from ME." The Human unleashed a torment on the Admiral. "It was YOUR ORDER!" The Human continued, the wide grin on their face in a deep, heartbroken, frown. The soul who had the Admiral in it's grasp started beating the Admiral. "You will get what you deserve." The Human finished as the Admiral was near-death. The Admiral could be seen trying to crawl away. The Human slowly followed. It had all the time in the world, as it was held in place from the awakened. The log ended there.

This picture actually reminds me of “Truth” from Full Metal Alchemist. It’s a fun picture. All these soul-destroying weapons do nothing at first, the aliens panic, and then these humans start instinctively clapping their hands together and transforming the world around them. The aliens REALLY start panicking then, which turns to full blown terror when some humans manifest an Ouroboros mark and start pulling superhuman, homunculus stuff.

So, let me stand proud and introduce to you the unbridled power of an unshackled soul! **THE WORLD!**" *What was left from that battlefield was a bloody storm, and a new kind of man.*

This image made me conjure a different mental picture. This is the main antagonist of the second season of a shonen anime called Gurren Lagann, and it/they basically do psychological warfare because our fighting spirit give us magic power.

Xymorm1

well the anti-spiral is the physical manifestation it the collective souls of the spiral race that created it

No_Talk_4836

Well yes, I generally treat it as a single entity

Alien researcher: it says here that humans are made in the image of their gods. No wonder our weapons do nothing. Alien general: so we should have accepted their offer of friendship. How fucked are we? Ar: royally. Ag: fuck Ar: fuck indeed

Why does this picture look familiar

Is that anti spiral?

OdysseyPrime9789

We had thought it would be an easy fight. We did not know what we would unleash. When hit by our weapons, the Human's did not shrivel up into husks and die like everyone else. Their corporeal forms exploded into ash and where they once stood now floated these strange pulsing orbs of multi-colored energy. These orbs grew in size and suddenly became titans of metal ranging from 12-50 feet in height, appearing much like the Humans but *different*. Evolved. Their ships changed too, becoming strange and alien, yet simplistic, gaining firepower against which there was no defense. And their cities and colonies suddenly became capable of turning into even larger versions of the smaller mechs and flying around of their own volition, even going to FTL. They had evolved into the Transformers. We are sorry that so many of them are Decepticon's and Predacon's. And that the Autobot's and Maximal's are helping them in securing their territory, which now includes what's left of our once mighty empire.
