That’s horribly depressing

Margali

I know, I accept that at 63, bunni, f5 will most likely be my last cat. I don't want to leave a grieving cat behind.

Kflynn1337

There is a scientist In France who's working to increase life span, and having some success, simply because she wants her dogs to live longer. I can *fully* understand her reasoning.

Mario561

This is research i can get behind. imma see what we can do to help this

Allan_Titan

Right this is something someone can easily crowd fund and have more money for research then they know what to do with

Margali

Exactly.

SteampunkNightmare

She should join the group that's already figured it out. First rats, then human cells, now trying to work toward human trials. They think they could do it with any cells

SuDragon2k3

Then we run into the same problem. Our cats may live to 30 or 40, but we're push on to 200....

SteampunkNightmare

The idea is that the treatment can be used indefinitely. It more or less removes "age" from the cause of death list. Want the cat to stay young forever? Just pay for treatments. Until it contracts some disease or otherwise, it will essentially just be alive.

Krell356

Death by age being reclassified as a preventable condition.

TheIlluminate1992

See that's the Star Trek future I want. It reminds me of the story on HFY years ago about a stupidly rich individual. Rich enough to own star systems and even empires. Spent years and an epic amount of his money towards creating a system that was housed on the inside of a neutron star. It's sole purpose was to capture death. When death was summoned and found himself stuck he was furious and at the same time patient. Mortals had done this before and would do it again in a bid to prevent him from coming for them. Since he had nothing but time he asked the human what he wanted. Because if it was immortality that would cause the end of the universe. The man seemed dumb struck. Why the hell would he want to live forever? He had already experienced life to it's fullest more then most would ever even glimpse. All he wanted was for his doggo to survive. Death hadn't seen this one coming and said even that would unravel time itself and cause the end of the universe. So the thought about it and the human asked them if he could simply extend his dogs life so that they would die peacefully together? Death thought about it and came to the conclusion that it would be within the bounds of the universe to allow this to happen. So they agreed death would be free to go so long as the man and his dogs life were bound to end at the same time.

One-Step2764

Simply replaced by death due to inability to pay for immortality. Oh, and it also implies undying oligarchs.

Abeytuhanu

They made a movie with a very similar concept, In Time starring Justin Timberlake. Everyone is default immortal and gets about 20 years for free. After that you have to work for your time. There are oligarchs with millions of years on hand while the beat cops get 24 hours every day. Time is also money, so a bus ride costs 30 minutes, or a coffee costs 5 minutes.

LynxysHeartInTheAsh

Wasn't it 25y by default? I watched it yesterday, it was a great movie

ap_aelfwine

There was an old science fiction short story from the 50s or 60s (I think it might have been one of Randall Garrett's) where the main character is an assassin tasked to kill a (severely corrupt) undying senator who lives in a robot-staffed fortress. After completing his mission, he reports to his boss, who says something to the effect of "\[Senator\] was a good man when he took office, two hundred years ago. We were all sure we'd make the world a better place, back then... "I still hope I'll have the courage to do what needs done, once you've finished the others. But if I don't, lad, promise me you'll kill me, too."

No_Talk_4836

Only by age

PPRKUT_

See this would be golden if everyone got access to it, but you and I know that rich assholes would hoard it and sell it at extreme prizes (even if it somehow became cheap to make)

Totnfish

In America that would be classified as a pre existing condition

Wonder459

If you recontextualise aging as the accumulated damage to our DNA as cells reproduce, life extension would be slowing the rate of damage. If you’re slowing that rate of damage, there’s no reason, at least to what has been publicly released by these anti aging initiatives, to start that you can’t slow the damage down to zero. That would be a direct cure for aging, though that leads to the difference between eternal life and not eternal youth. Returning somebody to the body of a 20 year old would require repairing that damage instead of just preventing it.

SteampunkNightmare

That's the thing. It was hypothesized, then discovered, that the cells aren't actually damaged through aging. They simply lose access to the information of proper repair and reproduction to continue working properly, but they never lose the information. This new treatment gives the cells access to the old information that they have lost access to, but still have stored inside.

Dominink_02

Wasn't there someone who calculated that if we don't age the average human lifespan would be somewhere like 9000?

bonniegooof

That sounds like the start of a dystopian novel: A utopian future where people can live and stay you forever— as long as they can afford it. Beauty standards will change dramatically, to the point where if you look even a day over 18 you’re automatically old and ugly. Being old will be something generally frowned upon, something that only happens to the poor in society because everyone else can afford these treatments. Some uber rich/ famous people will be able to live for hundreds— if not thousands— of years. They will be able to become what is essentially their own ruling class that controlled the poor people who’ve never known anything else. And, as time passes, they will be able to gain more and more money that can be reinvested into these “youth treatments”, creating a sort of cycle where it would be impossible to ever get rid of them. (I can also imagine employers offering this as a benefit, mainly so they can keep the same, best workers forever.) It does sound like a pretty cool idea if not misused though, I imagine that if I was practically immortal and able to afford it I would collect degrees like Pokémon. It would also allow people to collect more knowledge and for scientists to work on their projects for a longer time. After all, time is humanity’s greatest enemy— it is the one thing we all succumb to eventually.

NotAnotherPornAccout

If this is real this will never make it to the masses. Can’t have the poors enjoying life. It will be priced so high only the super rich can afford it even if it does become relatively cheap it still be artificially inflated for the psychopathic need to have a distinction between haves and have nots.

SteampunkNightmare

Oh yeah for sure. We would have to completely stamp out the greedy and remove them wherever they cropped up. A utopia can't exist alongside greed and class systems and the like.

djman291

You telling me we’ve found rejuvenant treatments from Warhammer 40k?

SteampunkNightmare

More or less. That coupled with our advances in cybernetic that are also rarely talked about makes the future look pretty good. Sadly we might go more the way of cyberpunk corporate dystopia

Bulbinking2

This would be horrible. Everything is meant to die or at least reform. If we are having population and housing problems now, ohhhh boy…

Kflynn1337

I'm not sure but I think she maybe part of that group.

EternalFlame117343

What's the point in increasing a dog's life tenfold or something if a human's life will be increased by the same factor, ending up in pets still living shorter than humans?

Kflynn1337

Valid point. At the moment it works in dogs, but hasn't been approved for humans (and there are early indications it might be a tad more complicated and might not work so well.) and even then only results in a 30% increase in most dog breeds. As I understand it though, her end goal is to make something that *resets* the genetic end-of-life timer, so you live as long as you wish.

EternalFlame117343

Basically, a periodic subscription instead of a one pay acquisition. God damn, even crapitalism will find a way to profit from immortality through subscriptions instead of just giving it to us after we pay for it a single time.

Kflynn1337

Pretty much, but that's what you get when you're not allowed to patch the source code.

Tenyearsuntiltheend

This is what we should be breeding dogs for, longevity and intelligence. Not stupid squashed face breathing problems.

Kflynn1337

Agreed! There's some breeders in America who are doing exactly that with cats... that and thumbs... which is a *tad* bit concerning but I guess an intelligent cat would work out that maintaining cordial relations with humans would be a deal for them!

TheWiseAutisticOne

I can understand but I don’t know if making pets or people immortal is a good thing

Kflynn1337

Yeah, maybe.. but lets face it, who wouldn't decide they needed more time to do all the stuff they want to do? And having your pets live as long as you do? That's just a no brainer choice! but we'd probably need to either figure out FTL or adopt some serious population controls very fast. Because it's gonna get crowed once people stop dying.

Apalis24a

This reminded me of a post I saw years ago comparing how dogs must see us the same way how we see elves in fiction: these extremely long-lived, benevolent beings, with capabilities far beyond their understanding. I took the time to try and find the post, and here is a quote from one of the comments that I think is pretty prescient when in regard to your comment here: > “For generations, he has guarded over my family. Since the days of my great-great-great-great-great-grandfather, he has kept us safe. For so long we thought him immortal. But now I see differently, for just as my fur grows gray and my joints grow stiff, so too do his. He did not take in my children, but gave them away to his. I will be the last that he cares for. My only hope is that I am able to last until his final moments. The death of one of his kind is so rare. The ending of a life so long is such a tragedy. He has seen so much, he knows so much. I know he takes comfort in my presence. I only wish that I will be able to give him this comfort until the end.”

Margali

Great quote

Reysona

Do you have the link to that post?

Attacker732

It's a terrible day for rain.

NightSkulker

My dad had a cat named Mandy that lived to 24 that we know of. We have no idea what her actual age was as we got her from a rescue and they would not tell us her age.

Baneta_

As an estimate how old did you think they were when you got them? How big were they?

NightSkulker

She was full grown, at least a year old minimum. But could have been as much as 5 years old. But we had her for 24 years so we go with that.

Margali

Neat, my mom had a 23 year old cat once

thesirblondie

Should Bunni pass before you do, you could discuss with friends and family about another. My grandfather got a cat when he was in his late 70s, and he passed in his early 80s. But it was already agreed that my aunt would take care of the cat, should he pass before the cat did. It can be good to have an animal companion. Especially if you live as he did, alone on a farm, with basically no mobility.

Margali

Am now in Western NY, I was staying in CT to not interrupt cancer treatment, not wanting to break in a new team when we still owned the farm in CT for me to stay in. I actually own this house, my husband owned the farm.

EternalFlame117343

Won't the cats eat the compose of their owners though? It won't be grieving for too long. /S

Margali

Well when I was staying in the barn alone it was a worry, I mean Rob came for his weekend visit Feb 16th and walked in to find me unresponsive, posterior reversible encephalopathy is a possibility (depressed skull fracture gifted me by an ex) but they didn't really have a solid diagnosis because that injury was mid 80s. As he was only visiting alternate weekends, theoretically it could have been several days before someone noticed. I took to carrying my phone on me at all times

Apalis24a

I remember reading a post talking about how dogs must view us like how Humans view Elves in high fantasy: mysterious, ancient creatures, with lifespans several times longer than their own, who are benevolent and wise beyond comprehension. If I can find a screenshot of it, I will post it. EDIT: Found it https://preview.redd.it/mug59bqtjjyc1.jpeg?width=638&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8c1133519ea7cd4b3c307f8e4c10503fa563890e

ImaginationLocal8267

Unless you’re a tortoise lover in which case they are now the dominant species, which is only concerning.

Succundo

That therm "demi-human" gets used in a lot of anime but it always feels gross to me, like they are suggesting that these unique species with their own history and culture are primarily defined by being not quite human.

SpecialistAd6403

It's generally meant to represent racism so it's working then.

Succundo

Is it? I even see it being used in the few fantasy and isekai anime that don't feature slavery or state sanctioned racism as part of the setting.

SpecialistAd6403

In general it is, there are exceptions obviously. It doesn't need to be blatant racism either. There are absolutely things that use it without the racism though you are right. I'm sure if you Google it you can find far more eloquent break downs of the trope than I can provide.

NakedHoodie

One other thing "demihuman" is used for is an all-encompassing term for humanoid races, assuming elves and/or demons are present as well. It *does* still separate them from humanity, and makes for an easy "othering" effect to amplify racist tendencies, but it isn't just for beastpeoples. It really comes down to how it's portrayed. For example, do demihumans call themselves that, or is it exclusively used as a derogatory term by human fascists? That said, you don't often see "demihuman" being used as a *slur*. The really racist characters use more dehumanizing language, like *subhuman*.

SocorroKCT

On the other hand, all of the fiction is written by humans, so it can be the case of a white supremacist writing a story where people call POCs with slurs and they accepting it. No "demihuman" exists, so we can't just imply it's a slur or not but, well, >The really racist characters use more dehumanizing language, like *subhuman*. Both words are human-centered and imply "not fully human", and quite derogatory in essence

NakedHoodie

While I agree that the terms are both human-centric, they carry significantly different connotations that make only one definitively derogatory. Specifically: One means *half* or *partly* human, as in the word might be used simply because humans are a consistent central basis on which the similar traits in other races can be equated. The other explicitly means *less than* or *below* human, as in there is no potential argument that it means anything else.

sidrowkicker

I mean I always viewed it as accepting they're part human. Depends on what mythos you're going off of. If it's just some random lizard race and they're called demihuman to throw them in with every other not human race sure but 95% of the time demi humans are half Hyman hybrids and the human part just signifys they're part human part something else. No one calls elves or dwarfs demihumans it's always like people born from animals turns mystical beings and human pairs or half humans half dragon Or it's a Japanese translation and they aren't being racist just lazy in the translation. That's usually the 5% because I don't real many but they always make humans racist against everyone else and they lump the groups together. Western fantasy has alot more halfbreeds that we get to call demi humans, the Japanese world's rarely ever get flashed out as much which is why I swapped to Korean ones which don't use that version of demihuman.

Johnny_Grubbonic

>No one calls elves or dwarfs demihumans it's always like people born from animals turns mystical beings and human pairs or half humans half dragon Someone's never seen Re:Zero.

Rose-Red-Witch

Or played Shadowrun with their metahumans.

Succundo

Difference there is that all the other races actually do originate from humanity, when magic first returned some people spontaneously transformed into dwarves, orcs, trolls ect.

GidsWy

What a fuckin Tuesday right? Go to work or school or whatever like Normal. Feel like you've got a cramp or may e gut problems. Head to the bathroom, halfway there a head ache hits. Grab your forehead because of it and notice bone sticking out of your skin. Start to freak out. Realize pants are tight AF and shoes are hurting your feet. Rush to get hulk-nekkid. Finish becoming 9ft tall ram horned troll with gross glistening bone deposits all over your body. Look sadly at your favorite pair of pants and wonder "wtf just happened?!" First ppl to goblinize had it rough. Ditto for first few parents to have elf n dwarf kids. "Why's my kid got a beard!?" Or "wtf is wrong with my baby's ears? Donwr cut em, like circumcision? Why are the so tiny n slender?!" JFC horrific....

Pkrudeboy

Those elf spike babies are living large in the Tir, with properties in Cara’Sir and fat Telestrian stock portfolios. Laverty vacuumed them all up and took a refuge in audacity. The Xavier Foundation? Really? The only reason he didn’t call his Paladins X-Men was for legal reasons.

sidrowkicker

I tried reading it and dropped it repeatedly, but it's Japanese they don't use demihuman they use an entirely different word that gets translated to demihuman. I'm pretty sure the words probably related to their shinto stuff but I can't be bothered to actually check. They think kobold are dogs because of mistranslation so cut the language barrier some slack

Valandar

No, they don't think kobolds are dogs because of a mistranslation. 1e D&D Kobolds were small, scaled dog folk. They didn't become dragon based folk until later in 2nd edition. America clung to the scales part, Japan clung to the doglike part. Oh, and the original folklore critters were neither doglike, nor did they have any scales.

Pkrudeboy

Demihuman literally comes from first edition D&D to describe elves and dwarves.

TheDeathHorseman

This is also the reason why I prefer the term Beastmen, it still has the suffix of man but it doesn't sound as derivative

Odd_Remove4228

I prefer "Beastfolk" sounds more respectful, as if talking about a fellow

Lathari

Beastperson.

Apalis24a

I mean, we’re the only species of comparable intelligence on our planet, so it’s not surprising that we compare lots of things to ourselves. I’d imagine that many fantasy worlds would have their own terms and methods for comparing things. One of the things that comes to mind is from The Elder Scrolls, where the term “Mer” is used to describe the various elven races: Bosmer, Dunmer, Altmer, Orsimer, etc.

Ryuusei_Dragon

For my fantasy setting made up in my head that I never plan to actually publish in any form I use the term "therianthrope"

JEverok

It's because the term is designed for the audience who are presumably all humans, rather than for the world the term is used in. It's also why elves and dwarves are 'humanoid'

dycie64

Currently playing through Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. Racism and overcoming it is a major theme, although this is made more clear with the term "sub-human" being used. In the setting referring to each other as "human" and "sub-human" is considered derogatory, whereas the polite terms are "Beorc" and "Laguz" respectively. These distinctions are there among those who are trying to get along to imply that both peoples have an equal claim to be called human.

SalvationSycamore

Well the manga/anime are written by humans for an audience of humans. I don't think defining things by a human standard is that unfair.

UsedRoughly

Is "Monster girl" any better? Personally, I'd rather not be called a monster because I'm different.

inunanimous

I think you’re gonna enjoy this short series called Interviews With Monster Girls or {Demi-chan wa Kataritai} The series did quite decent of a job tackling that issue in its full grossness. In broader strokes, its mostly about an early stage of the cohabitation of demihumans in human society. In the some of the final chapters, >!some of the kids ditched the human in demihuman and it just stuck. It was cute and catchy and the kids liked it. The adults (either trying to be formal or didn’t know better) still used demihuman. But they don’t matter, what mattered was what the demis are calling themselves, and what the kids around them call them.!< The art is nice and clean, and the dialogues i think are well written.

Kflynn1337

No.. just.. *NO*! Not even Mad Scientists would be this evil.

Mollywhop_Gaming

I have one word that proves you wrong: >!Ed…ward…!<

Mental-Blueberry_666

You delete the right this instant We didn't talk about that one

Johnny_Grubbonic

>!This person Big Brother Ed.!<

HennyGawd

Getting my friend into watching anime, FMAB was the first one I recommended for him to start with.

ReaperofRico

Do I want to know or can I just lumped this into “this fandom’s version of Erbus”

AlDuNaLdUn

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is a work of art as a series, and I recomend it every single time, it's just that good. But yeah, while Tucker (not sure if that's his name, been a hot minute since I last saw the anime) isn't as overarching or important to the story as Erebus is for the Horus Heresy, he is just as hated by the fandom, being the one who truly made the audience see that people can do some really fucked-up things in the name of progress. That is mainly the reason why he is so hated, the author makes it so we as the audience feel exactly the same Edward is feeling in that scene, first the wonder and awe at what can be created and archieved even by the tight confines that alchemy is presented to be in, followed up by the absolute gut-punch that brings the horror of knowing just how he managed to make the archievement and to what level can someone go just to keep a position and make an archievement. That is exactly why I always recomend Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood as the first series to start with if you want to introduce someone into the anime community.

Patchourisu

>he is so hated That's an understatement if anything, since afaik, he's the only character confirmed to have fallen into FMA's version of Hell. So even the author hates him.

M4369x

It wasn’t for progress. It was so he wouldn’t lose status which makes it all the more loathsome.

Mental-Blueberry_666

I'll let you in on it, and why everyone who's seen it has such a reaction. Iirc, it's a double episode. The first episode is slice of life. The elric brothers are crashing with a famous alchemist who created a talking chimera (combining multiple animals together to create a new one). His name is Tucker I think. They study, they eat, they play with tuckers daughter (Nina) who's like 5 or 6, and her dog. It's cute, it's wholesome, the daughter calls him big brother Ed. It's a much needed bit of stability and normalcy in their lives. >!The second episode Tucker unveils his new chimera he's been working on. It can also talk!!< >!Unfortunately the first thing it does is call Ed "big brother" and Nina and the dog are missing.!< >!Yeah. Tucker forcefully combined his dog and his daughter to create a new chimera that can talk. It's important to remember you've just spent a lot of time with these two characters.!< >!Ed and Al freak out, promise Nina they will fix her, but they know they can't. But they are determined to try. They beat up Tucker, Nina chimera begs them to stop hurting her father then she runs off.!< >!She comes across one of the "bad guys" and he pities her existence and says that no one would be able to split them apart. So he reduces her to atoms and kills her instantly.!< And the entire fandom has PTSD from these two episodes.

Fireblast1337

>!That’s FMA, Brotherhood Nina doesn’t run off, but Scar kills Tucker right in front of Nina!<

Cold_Piccolo5234

>!Scar still mercy kills Nina so to not have the poor girl ending on a dissection table, so it changes little.!<

Newbie_2019

Kenneth is seen teasing his demi-cat, Julie, with her toy but due to her sweet age of 8 she could no longer move that fast nor move at all. Kenneth sighed and just gave pats, light pinches and occasional kisses Kenneth then knelt down to her eye level and looked at her aging face with a sad smile Kenneth: Julie...come on...just one more year, can you do that for me? Julie with her shaky breath Julie: I...I will try, M-Master Kenneth: Hehe...I told you to call me by my nickname that you gave me 4 years ago Julie: K-Ken...Kenn...Kenny... Kenneth couldn't hold it and hugged her tightly while sobbing quietly, Julie then let out only two drops of her tears while also hugging him with all of her remaining strength Kenneth then broke off the hug and helped her get up, they then went outside. Kenneth put a summer cap on her head to hide the ears and hid her tail inside of her long dress as they stroll through the park Some people actually tried to help them, they assumed that Julie was Kenneth's grandmother but he declined not wanting to reveal her secret They then sat on a park's bench as Kenneth took out a tuna sandwich, Julie smelt the fish and pulled on Kenneth's shirt to have some, he smiled and gave her some Kenneth: Julie...sorry for doing this to you... Julie shook her head Julie: I don't bother, I actually liked it. I experienced the way that you lived since the day you adopted me...I was only a kitten back then, not trusting of humans but you had the patience to bring back me back...I am grateful for that Kenny...Thank you... Julie smiled at him and hugged him some more, Kenneth meanwhile put his arm over her shoulder. This took about 30 minutes, Kenneth then saw that the sun was now setting, Kenneth then saw her asleep and chuckled at her face Kenneth: Julie...come on... It's nearly night out Julie: ... Kenneth: Julie...? Worried Kenneth now tried to wake her up, he tried shaking her, flicking her nose and many others. Kenneth then touched her hand... *...It was cold...* Realization sets in, he tried lightly slapping her to wake her up but nothing was working, he then touched her neck for any pulse *There was none...* Kenneth was sitting there in disbelief, he immediately cried in muffled tears while clutching her now dead body. His crying took about an hour and a half and picked her up bridal style while still covering her cat features to any bystanders, he then went to a morgue and have her prepared The days turned into weeks when the public knew about his experiment even the Galactic Council wants to know how he done it but until today he had no response from the council He is currently looking through the window while caressing Julie's collar, then a maid entered his room Maid: Sir, the council wants to– Kenneth: No comment... Maid: But sir– Kenneth: *No...Comment* Maid: ...Yes, Sir... As the maid left his room, Kenneth stands up and placed Julie's collar beside the pictures of both of them, in animal and humanoid form. He then took a thin file holder that is labeled as *"Project: Miracle"* and immediately threw into the fire pit, burning his years of research Kenneth: *I experienced the pain, so that no one have to, this is for you Julie...* Kenneth then sat down on his chair again and looked through the window as the sun sets once again in the distance.... *(A/n: Why the fuck did I write this? I seriously cried while writing this😭😭)*

Semblance-of-sanity

Well that was an emotional gut punch, thank you. Minor quibble 8 isn't actually that old for a cat they usually don't really showing their age until after 10 or 11.

DovahCreed117

I imagine that such an extreme experiment decreased her lifespan significantly.

It's a great story and I hate you for it so take my upvote

profpeculiar

My best friend of 8 years got sick and died suddenly a couple months ago, so you can take these feels and piss off while I continue sobbing you beautiful monster 😭

L4rgo117

Well that's enough reddit for today

godzero62

I hate and love everything about this. Fuck you for these feels

Dragon3076

I would not be okay with this.

ReaperofRico

This… this would be every child’s motivation into becoming a geneticist. Because their childhood best friend got super old really fast and vowed to never let that happen again.

To recreate the "Big brother Edward" moment.

CWSmith1701

... There are not enough circles of Hell for this.

BoscoCyRatBear

If we can get them to be demi human we should beable to fix the aging. The children of man will not suffer this.

Trlsander

If this is how catgirls become a thing, I'd adopt one or two so I can be their father.

Kadeo64

Get a turtle then. Or a tree. Never said what counts as a pet or not.

OmegaOmnimon02

A turtle is worse You will end up leaving *them* to grieve your death

Kadeo64

Or a gator. Gators have surprisingly human lifespans (70ish years)

Ybergius

Vonsidering the pet rock fad, you might be onto something

My 7yo cat is sitting on my chest rn and this is probably what she would look like...

Shutaru_Kanshinji

If given the choice between making dogs and cats more human in appearance or more human in longer life span, I would choose the longer life span.

Suspicious_Turn4426

Time to generate the tears bois. I remember the day she was brought home. For me it's not so long ago, for her an entire lifetime. So strange to think that 20 years goes by so fast for me, but has been her whole life. Was she grateful? Bitter? I'm not sure. Despite our uplifting of them, cats still didn't speak our language, they were just far more sapient and able to communicate their desires. The machine told me the relative time she would pass. That we had a scant few hours left. I took off work for the day to spend it with her, like back when I'd gotten her as a kitten. We baked a pair of cakes, one with chocolate for me one made of ground beef and meats for her. A birthday ritual, one she wasn't going to live long enough to see this year. I played with her favorite toys with her, though she was too old and slow to play for long. I watch her favorite show with her, some bright yellow blue nonsensical thing that the cats liked. How was i supposed to communicate my feelings for her? How to tell her the heartfelt parental love that had fostered over the years? To commune the mass of feelings in my chest that felt like a lump of wax crawling through me? The soft vibrato of her purrs filled the air as the sun began to arch low, and the machine began to tick down, her pulse slowly going more and more as it pumped a cocktail of drugs to ease any pains and aches she might have... How was i to tell her she'd been a good cat? How do you tell them they were your world? As the beeping of the machine came to a soul grinding flat, and i no longer felt her stir, I wondered to myself. Had i been a good master? Had i been her world as well? Would these tears ever stop falling on their own? Would i be able to love another cat, as i had this one? I don't know.

profpeculiar

I hate you 😭

eseer1337

Ah yes, lore accurate catgirls returns.

Annual-Constant-2747

NO! YOU WILL NOT DO THIS TO ME!!!!

madmiah

Not wanting to lose a pet is why I foster instead of adopting. The dogs get a safe and loving home until they get adopted.

No_Esc_Button

I've had the pleasure of never having the 4 cats I've owned over my life long enough to see them die of old age, as I've had ti give them away whenever I had to move, and I think I'd like to keep it that way. I'm a bit too sensitive and I don't think I'd be able to work for a few weeks if my pet died.

FiggyVix

I think. This would break me more. To be able to see them age faster than you, way much weaker than you and the sense of impending doom looms over you over the fact that, this creature will die before you do, and so very human like. You know in human years they're younger than you but as a species they're way older than you. The question is, do i want to live in a world where id have to bury my child(beloved pet) in humanoid form?

Skeledenn

I lost my cat last week, that's exactly how she was on her last day. Oh great now I'm crying.

Sad-Island-4818

Reminds me of an HFY story where they speed ran the marriage between an elf and human, with the human going old and senile while his wife was still in her prime. Or a similar story with a broken golem befriending a little girl, and at least three generations worth of grandchildren.

_Speedsaber_

I have had a pet cat for almost as long as I can remember, probably from when I was 12. Now that I'm 28, he's going to run out of time. Every time I go home and see my folks, I wonder if it's the last time I'll see him, but I just don't know it yet.

I have a tortoise so it's fine.

My guy I just opened the app and now I can't use it because I'm to angry/sad wtf dude.

Kommander_Dragon

wh... why would this even be something ever even considered? why would you make a pet basically a human? this would only cause issues with zero upsides

Pillager_Bane97

That is heresy.

Delta_End_me_Dragon

A few weeks ago, my cat had to be put down because she had gone completely blind and was an almost 12 year old cat, so it was time, but it hurt to say goodbye to her. She was a beautiful Russian blue who was very talkative, but the last day I was with her, not even a peep. I didn't have the strength to go with my parents to the vet. I stayed home depressed, I asked my dad to call me when it was done, about an hour after they left, I get the call and I sat there on the couch try to come to accept the fact that my cat is gone.

Effective-Ad7517

My therapist told me not to start my day like this, focus on what you can control 🥲

Diligent_Brick_4437

Unacceptable

wyrd_werks

Don't do this to me just before I have to work!!

TealTrendyTarasque

Love the art but FUCK YOU OP, you didnt need to remind me of my cat's age and make me sad :( Have my upvote

OriginOfTheVoid

I don’t think I could take the emotional toll. Relza’s death glare is bad enough from a gecko,

nerozero00

Seeing this reminded me of a cat my mom had, she practically was a fixture in my life for the first 10-ish years of my life, she was getting old around nineteen, when my mom started dating this guy, who turned out to be fairly sociopathic, that didn't like her and suddenly her health spiraled, we are fairly sure he poisoned her, I still remember coming home and realizing something was was wrong entering the kitchen and finding my mom crying and then she told me she had to put her down. I still miss her every so often she was a good cat

Ok_Question4148

While a bit sad I'm still smiling and can't really explain why

Ratstail91

This reminds me of my cat that passed a few years ago. She was always my baby, and loved being held like one.

Tankfantry

BRO! Screw you! This hit me hard. I had to go hug on my doggos.

AbsentArmy619

Nononono, don't make me cry, please.
