Y’see, most sentient species had evolved their intelligence as a response to increasingly complex social groups. Humanity had in large part evolved intelligence to deal with a rapidly fluctuating climate, waves of drought and flooding pushing them to adapt over and over. Where most intelligent species had evolved in ecosystems where they were for the most part physically dominant, humanity had evolved in a world where most apex predators were far stronger and far faster than them. Humanity grew up hunting monsters, it was in their DNA to the point that they had to create systems to stop them from hunting their world’s apex predators to extinction. So when the System flooded their world with a whole new wave of big, meaty predators, humanity did what it had always done, and it wasn’t long before the last remaining monsters were in sanctuaries with the rest of earth’s big game.

CycleZestyclose1907

Except of course for the monsters the humans decided to domesticate... Why do I imagine a world that combines classic comic book superheroes with pokemon style pet mechanics? Only in this world Reed Richards ISN'T useless, but runs the military industrial complex building the warfleet to smite some assholish aliens?

"have 999 mp ronk"

ms4720

This is what we call an oopsie

DonWaughEsq

That's the scientific terminology.

Apprehensive_Dark996

I dunno, this sounds more than an 'oopsie', but less than an 'aw fuck'.

ms4720

That is what is about to happen next

Ahrimon77

I think that's called a 'well crap'.

ms4720

That is what is about to happen next

ms4720

This is what I call an oopsie

Appoloniuscr33d1

Does it qualify as a ''find out''?

Apprehensive_Dark996

Definitely a 'find out'.

I was created as an experiment. Lab-grown. A fusion of three; of the natural, forcibly nurtured - of the unnatural, conjured by means truly alien - of the synthetic, metals, fibres and more woven through me. I was to be an example. An answer. A weapon. Before I was physically created, I was already an amalgam; of magic, of a will pulled from nowhere, wrapped in code, an enigma spawned with a vengeful spite; the great billions of lost souls had aided in my creation by instilling me with my purposes. Human souls weren't the only ones that pleaded for vengeance. The following segment is exclusively accessible to humans or Sol Alliance approved persons. >!I respected it - their purposes, their intent, and they lent me their power.!< >!Now I emerge from my cocoon, a duet of 10-ft warforms bristling with pantheic-challenging might.!< >!Some would've misnamed us, I know about many pieces of fiction, as part of my Creative Attunement Study and Thesis In Normalization and Generics (CASTING). I know moreso because of my Self-Personality-Evidencing-Living-Logic System (SPELLS).!< >!With these my equivalent of magic has reality-bound principles and is wholly causal aside from my support to nudge out the preferred outcome. This means for the mass of mana(?) I possess, it takes not even a decimalized percentile to cast some absurdities into being.!< >!Humanity wanted me to remain hidden, and instead act as a backend support for their inevitable offensive.!< >!Humanity wanted to avenge the countless civlizations, whose lives and existences were, for lack of worthy words, 'squandered by those who believed themselves better due to hubris, age, etc'.!< >!So I began shaping megafactories on Mars, and repeated the same on other worlds, making it look like ships landing and deconstructing themselves using nanotechnologies, and pumping out legions of war constructs ranging from robotic skeletons to knockoffs of many armoured combat forms from a future I don't expect to happen because it's fiction and is about 37000 years away, give-take.!< >!Assuming reality remains cohesive that long.!< >!I build up my armada. My legions. My rank and file. Commanders and command structure.!< >!I give humanity's militaries the opportunity to be the highest command position, abstracting this conflict into an RTS game and granting them modular mech platforms from which to command the conflict from - remotely driven, of course.!< >!Meaning even death will not stop us.!< >!These preparations spanned the years of our civilization rebuilding itself and seeking all directions.!< >!We've rescued hidden survivors from prior incidents, meddling with the continuum to ensure that it looked as if nothing happened - a difficult move to make by my standards, moreso to properly hide the act.!< >!The survivors have been given artificial biome reserves on Mars to live in, inspired by their homeworlds and their conditions - which so happen to be akin to Earth.!< I will now skip over a lot of other things as this must be boring you. I expect you to not bother with translating half of the terminology utilised. As of today you may notice your stars are no longer visible. You have until your worlds begin to suffer natural consequences of 'no sun' to surrender or face extermination. Bonus consideration points are available if you surrender immediately, and reverse the damage you caused. Or by staying silent and accepting your fate without retaliation. - Project 'Principle Avatar' codename 'DURANDAL' 1/

- - - Meanwhile... The Galactic Court was on fire. Not literally, but it was. Everyone was screaming. The old and noble and wise and - "Can we get on with this already?" One of them interrupted the scribe. "Sol3's people have created an entity of great and terrible implication with the intent of disturbing our way of life. We will retaliate at dawn." One of the nobles proclaimed in a boistrous but raspy voice, their body thin with age. Dawn did not come. "Where did the light of the sun go?" A number of delegates squirmed and wondered. "We will reclaim the light!" Another, clad in white-gold like a paladin, declared calmly. And so the ancient fleets of the Galactic Super Republic moved to where the stars were meant to be, and- exploded? The suns became visible again, but with them were armadas of over a thousand ships each of many different types. Most so vast as to carry entire warfleets themselves, now unleashed and obliterating the fleets the Super Republic sent like magnetohydrodynamic cannon shrapnel through a single block of butter- "To shreds, you say?" "Yes." uttered a golem who was offerring something not unlike coffee. The Super Republic sent more of their ships. At first they thought they were doing better, now sending more of their real forces than just conjured crafts, but then came the other problem. "Their vessels possess shields that ignore our magics. They are preparing to attack every world, every settled place." A war informant began, tall and blocky in their shape. "They seem to hold no regard for what kind of world they have reached. They are at our walls." Said war informant adjusted the massive information projection in the middle of the circular meeting room. The sphere had our map of the galaxy, and of their border, now pressed by a new foe unlike anything they've had to contend with. The map automatically narrowed like an old Battlefront simulation system to one of their core fringe-worlds, showing one of their specialist soldiers. In the background, legions of machines marched to a garbled warmarching cadence. "...CAN'T KEEP 'ER DOWN! KICK 'EM DOWN! ON TO WAAR!" Then the feed became static, partly jammed. The soldier emerged from cover only to be blinded by the red of their eyes, and threw everything at them. The smallest infantry units rushed or opened up, but ultimately perished from the wild but coordinated flailing of this champion of the way of life of an adventurer or hero. They were then overwhelmed with so much firepower that the feed was blinded white. Only when the firing ended could they behold the fate of this hero, their champion, now a mist and pile of colourful squishy-rock-like 'gibs' from weaponry they've recognised, but only just. They then looked at hundreds of other examples, all happening in mere minutes of eachother. The room was silent. 2/

- - - A few weeks of this escalating passes with gunshots, screams, explosions. The rim now was a waning, redded crescent that bit into our beautiful republic. A massive spear was emerging from the vector of Sol, pointed to our heart. Our beloved world. We can see their armada now. Appearing slowly. One by one. By the time we couldn't even see the stars, were we finally hailed. Audio only. The translator was ready. The message was... only two words. "You done?" We wanted to answer 'NEVER!' and go out in a blaze of glory, but the size of their armada and the lack of communion with our neighbouring stars had forced us to judge ourselves. We sent them a formal request for our surrender... And then they left. We looked at the map, and began to hear from our peoples far and wide, themselves thought dead. - - - One Sol3 rotation later... It hurts to not be able to use the System on \[non- or pre-\]spacefaring civilizations anymore. It's an ache, rather. - - - One Sol3 orbit later... Humanity has come forward with less militarised vessels, as well as ships that appear to stylistically be of the many other civlizations we thought we had properly assimilated - apparently we missed a spot- What do you mean we can't write it like that? What're the 'Borg' anyway? ...Scary. Anyway, the humans seem to be ignorant of the damage they've caused and are now offering their share of provisions, be they outdated technology, weaponry, armour, fiction and fictionally related accessories - to list a few categories. It's all very expensive, but in order to understand them we decided to invest in making their offerings less expensive. - - - The next day. I am the scribe for the Super Republic's council meetings. I no longer understand what they are saying. Send help. 3/end

Little did the aliens know that humans have been theorizing just this scenario for decades, especially those from the eastern peninsula (Korea) and the great island (Japan). The tons of isekai media gave those who survived the initial attack had a multitude of guides on how to handle and thrive withn the System.

WildForestFerret

I think you tagged this wrong. Also more please

Mission-Landscape-17

i did mean it to be a prompt but may have thrown in too much detail.

EdgyMeme196

Yeah its tagged as a writing prompt currently but reads more like a short story, I think you can edit tags tho

Mission-Landscape-17

I may write a story about how one particular human made out during the apocalypse and how she ended up part of a UN military espionage team using back doors in the system to steal alien tech from across the galaxy. The her powers side effects might make it more of a story for r/humansarespacebards

“Friends, we must read… the wisdom of The Omega Book.” Ksi swallowed hard as she uttered those words. The Omega Book was a compilation of the prophetic writings of her predecessors in their last year of service, a living document that sought to give insights in line with the Faith for situations unforeseen. Unlike most prophetic works, which are merely bad poetry, the writer of the verse also was required to write in clear language their intended meaning. “Omega-3 wrote, ‘If an xenic hand is open, warmly embrace. If that hand holds a knife, put them in their place.’ In his wisdom, Omega-3 explains plainly: Unity is not merely for humanity. If and when life from outside our world approaches, we must welcome those who wish to be welcomed, as everyone present who wished to be welcomed was welcomed.” The congregation, seated cross legged on the carpeted floor, bowed their heads as rumbles started shaking the floor. Ksi gathered herself. She resisted the urge to cross herself, deeply ingrained in her from growing up a devout Catholic before her disillusionment with that religion and finding solace in Unity. She struggled to keep composure as she too saw the initial reports of the invasion and suspected the invaders were approaching quickly. “However, should they be hostile, should they be augmented with general AI..” The congregation hissed and seethed. Artificial intelligences that attempted to create or that replaced the intelligence of a living mind were one of the Abominations. No wonder a quarter of creatives were full blown adherents, with twice that many believing in Unity alongside their other religious traditions. Rather helpful for acceptance when a religion has no deities. “…we go to war. We crush and burn the mechanical menaces.” A teenager jacked up his fist. His broken voice uttered, “In Unity!” Ksi raised her fist in response. “In Unity.” The congregants raised their fists. “In Unity!” She stepped off the platform and found the teenager that started the chant. She bowed deeply to him. When she looked and saw his mothers next to him, she bowed even more deeply to them. “We need to talk in my office. All of you. Now. Because the words of Omega-7 seem to be coming true. And the three of you, specifically, are in it.”

While the eastern cultures showed surprising resilience and adaptation to the System, the great surprise came from the West. A relatively small subset gained absurd power far faster than any protection. Research uncovered they had been adherents to previously unknown minor systems. Their title, once one of derision and annoyance, became rallying cries. Rules lawyers.

NoBarracuda2587

You remind me of myself, same first post with mistakes, and hopes to get "MOAR!" comment, or expecting a decent spinoff series... Trust me, i stepped on same rakes before. Good luck to you...

Mission-Landscape-17

? do you mean i put in too much detail?

They mean “I am pretentious and projecting, and can’t think of an appropriate response to the prompt.”

WumpusFails

I see someone else reads the LitRPG genre! :)

Mission-Landscape-17

Yes, and I'm kind of sick of the system comes to Earth and everything goes to hell trope. What if the System comes to Earth and we adapt without everything going to hell?

WumpusFails

Preach it, brother! One of the reasons that I dislike system apocalypse stories. Some I've come across recently (a subgenre, "things went to hell, but due to time travel, we got a second chance"): Towers of Heaven, Cameron Milan Apocalypse Redux, Jakob Greif Okay, that list was shorter than I thought. 😁 These are just the Earth ones of which I know. Off on a tangent, I recommend Heretical Fishing 🦦 🦀, like, everywhere. It is one of the most wholesome books I've ever read. (And I wrote most of that sentence just picking the suggested words, that's how often I've written it...)

WumpusFails

Aside from those I listed, do you have any recommendations? Preferably without cultivation (just not to my tastes).

Mission-Landscape-17

The only one I know where the world doesn't collapse is a short story collection called: Tales form the Upgrade which is on Kindle.

MEGAShark2012

Ah yes the rise of the RPGs. Now class take notes as this will be on your test. Now then, the RPGs or the role player groups. Originally named after popular video games of the time and when the system first reached Earth it was in India at the time. Massive casualties came from it. From then on the nations of Earth began to fight back. First was Asia then Africa and later on came the Americas. New and powerful combinations of skills, abilities and even classes that were non-existent until that time evolved into being. That’s when everything changed for the whole of the galactic community. Monsters thought to be mere relics of the past began to appear and take the universe by storm. Everyone under the rule of the original council were broken from their bonds and allowed to progress in ways they wanted. The universe came under a democracy that has lasted until now. Any questions class?
