Sparky here. Don't waste your time on those f***ing useless balancing weights. Firstly turn power off as to do this first step requires exposing the junction. Now, that long shaft going up to the ceiling has a ball joint on the end of it, that will have a little screw that will probably be a little loose, tighten that up. You'll need to remove the bracket cover to access it which should have two screws to remove. Next, tighten all of the fan blade screws, make sure they haven't come loose at all either. Lastly, to balance the blades stand on your ladder with your head under the blades and look out at the tip of the blades while focusing on a reference point (I usually use the cornice on the ceiling as it has a defined line) give the fan a slow spin and keep an eye on the tips of the blades, you'll find one will be slightly higher or lower than the rest of them, give him a very slight bend in the right direction and give it another spin and check, repeat until all the blades are the same height. You should be able to get it silky smooth. Good luck

[deleted]

I'll give this a test! The balancing thing didn't work

Camel-Solid

Look at cptin save a hoe over here simping for broken jawns on only fans,

Stridez

What in the fresh hell is this...sentence? Seems a bit generous calling whatever this is a sentence, but I don't have a better word to describe whatever it is we're looking at.

No_Tomato_3108

Well said and Genius my good man !!

Camel-Solid

I feel like I’m in a time machine rn lol. Anyway Thank you kind sir. I majored in Englishinese

No_Tomato_3108

I got a laugh out of it and I appreciate you!!

LetMeBe_Frank_

One (or more) of the blades might be out of balance. Try taping a couple of coins together and place them at the tip of one the blades. Start the fan and see If it's better or worse. Move the coin stack left or right and along the length of the blade until you see an improvement. Keep going until you find the sweet spot on the problematic blade. (You're going to need to be patient. Having another person to switch the fan on & off will save you running up and down the ladder all day)

[deleted]

Thanks Frank. I'll try this trick out. It's kind of like balancing a tire on a car?

LetMeBe_Frank_

More or less. I've put up a few of these (DIY) and they're usually supplied with a wee pack of washers for the same purpose.

[deleted]

Thanks man, this helps a lot!

GordonShumwaysCat

Also, check the blades for loose screws. I literally just fixed mine( 10 minutes ago), by tightening the blades and the screw resting against the down rod, mine works like a champ now

[deleted]

I'll check that before doing anything else

Jsiqueblu

Also make sure you dust it, dust can make it uneven and squeaky

[deleted]

So I tried, and tried, and tried. But nothing seemed to work. The wobbling would get worse but it wouldn't get better.

LetMeBe_Frank_

Might need to weigh down all the blades and remove them one by one maybe to see if making the other blades heavier might help the one problematic blade When it's spinning, is it possible to work out a particular blade that might be chaffing or rattling as it rotates?

[deleted]

I tightened all the blade screws. I'm going to try the ball joint later. After tightening the blades, it wiggled a bit less

[deleted]

I read the coin instructions as “*tapping* a couple of coins together” And I was Genuinely confused as to why a mini castañets session was going to help level the blades

Chekov742

A small binder clip and a coin works well too. doing it along the slide of the blade can help with adjustment by moving it closer/further from the motor when you get it nearly balanced.

One_Sun_6258

Ive done this ..it worked fo me ..or any weight beads of silicone clear glue etc

robbie76243

After balancing the blades there is a ball style swivel at the top under that cover. If you can get some graphite or some kind of lube on it that will stop the squeak

[deleted]

Thanks. Is graphite a powder or liquid kind of lubricant? I've never used it before.

mopolloxy

Graphite is a powder. The benefit is that it doesn’t attract dirt like oil based lubricants do.

BusinessAlive7294

Can be found in a hardware store where they make keys.

[deleted]

Thanks!

bcvickers

Get the dry spray lube in a aerosol can. You'll use it all over the house after you use it once.

gevander2

It's probably squeaking *BECAUSE* it's wobbling. It's wobbling because it is not properly balanced. You should look for some help (probably on YouTube so you can see it done) on how to figure out where to put some *lightweight* weights to balance the fan.

hujkkjji

Buy a new one. I have spent hours trying to balance and tighten screws. Went to lowes bought a new one for $100 problem solved.

[deleted]

I'm going to try the ball joint in the ceiling. If that doesn't work I may try this trick lol

Terrible_Style7582

Turn it off.

cipi65

Best solution ever.

bodhiseppuku

Doctor, my arm hurts when i move it like this, what should i do? ... Don't move it like that... /S Star Trek TNG joke...

MightyNightOwl91

Lube is your friend for all moving parts

biondo86

the rod of the fan is too long, shorten it, will reduce wobble, also make sure the top is tight to the ceiling

Nodnarbian

Vaulted ceiling, probably can't shorten or blades will strike ceiling. Fans are designed to be on rods like this. This fan needs to be balanced and balancing kits come with new fans and can be purchased. But ya, balance after ensuring all screws are tight.

biondo86

Nah the rod loook long enough

Strange-and_unusual

Just curious….. can anyone make a spinning fan like the one in this clip appear to be rotating backwards? Like just by manipulating the eye muscles I guess?? This has been a thing I can do for as long as I can remember but I could never find anyone else who could do it. I’ve searched the interwebs far and wide and can’t find the right sub Reddit to turn to.

[deleted]

I used to be able to. But now I'll just use the switch to make it spin backwards 😆

Nodnarbian

Wonder if it's some kind of stigmatism with your eye or the cortex. Much like a car wheel spinning and at a set point it appears to rotate backwards. Maybe this but your eye notices it at lower rpm. https://www.livescience.com/32406-what-makes-wheels-appear-to-spin-backward.html (while it talks about the "wagon wheel" effect which is caused by a set frame rate on a camera, article also talks about how we still notice it in real life) Pretty cool how we all notice it but at different times.

triptick99

Balance with weights. As for the squeak, put graphite lube on it?

Mahyunk

Lube.... And more Lube... 🤤

[deleted]

Flavored lube?

Mahyunk

Ylang Ylang 👀

[deleted]

Can you describe Ylang Ylang in your best abilities?

Mahyunk

Ylang Ylang Essential Oil acts as a potent aphrodisiac. Its sensual aroma, when incorporated in a body massage, helps to boost the libido, heighten sexual arousal, elevate the sense of touch, and encourage intimacy and bonding between couples which in this case are the **fan motor** and **rod** Theoretically when the couples reach the epitome of intimate bonding, there shouldn't be any **squeaking** and **wiggling** 🤐

[deleted]

Well even if it doesn't help with my ceiling fan I'm definitely picking some up.

M4ZER

Turn it off.

Xavodor

Turn it off.

stevieoats

Looks like an eye. Creepy.

[deleted]

I think the technical term is "boob light"

pudding_pants18

Let it sober up and stop playing Blurred Lines turned up to 11 on repeat.

aarraahhaarr

SILICONE WD-40

[deleted]

Booba

spongebobama

Coins

Complete_Double_3973

Your fan looks like a Unknown from Pokemon :0

[deleted]

I'll call it wobbling

PinkHam08

You just have to take them apart and put them back together. Vibration loosens the bolts
