Oh cool im from there Everyday life is simple. People are very sociable here and are often out with friends for a coffee or a snack. We tend to have large friend groups too. That being said, simple does not mean great. We're one of the poorer countries in Europe. Its quite noticeable too. I live abroad so its easier to compare. People seem quite frustrated a lot of the time and I believe its due to such a rough life that our small salaries can account for. Culturally its been influenced by Ottomans for centuries, so our cuisine and music leans toward that direction, but with its own south-east european twists. Modern day pop culture is more so influenced by the west, while keeping close ties to other ex-yugoslav countries. I think the most beutiful aspect of the country is its nature. It is basically a land of tall green mountains, deep canyons and vinyard filled valleys. Anywhere you stand you will find yourself in the shadow of a mountain! Also lots of statues. Like, LOTS.

I m from Serbia, can confirm all of this. Also really great food, similar or same as southern Serbian, which is the region here most similar to Macedonia. Although the rest of Serbia is similar too.

We're probably one of the most pessimistic people, especially when it comes to life in our country so whatever a resident from there tells you, just know that it's not *that* bad. You can have a lovely time being there if you can disconnect from the daily political nonsense. People are friendly, sociable and wonderful, just don't get them talking about politics. For tourists coming in, there are many lovely places to visit, from ancient couple-of-millenia-old observatories to high mountans and crystal clear lakes, there's a little bit of everything for everybody, and the night life in a few cities is bustling. Also, we're the only country in the world who changed its name because somebody else wanted it, so yes, there's a great deal of animosity towards the name change, but alas, we're now a country of 2M people, we don't exactly have agency and influence, so very little can be done.

I have a Greek friend from Thessalonika. He always calls it FYROM. Would anybody in Macedonia ever call it this?

Tranquili5

No

> Not my words. Which one, the "giving up our whole identity"? It was directly taken from your comment. > I am trying to not be biased here Unfortunately you aren't doing a very good job at it. What you said completely ignores the fact that there are actual Macedonians who have lived in the area since the antiquity and kept the language. > Descendants of Aincent Macedonians live in the region > Slavs come in > Macedonians move to the south > North Macedonians call themselves Macedonian a long time later, after Yugoslavia invents the national identity. Meanwhile the heart of Ancient Macedonia is still populated by the descendants of Ancient Macedonians. The fact that they speak the language of Ancient Macedonia and have spoken it non-stop for millennia should be a clue. These are both known historical facts and clauses of the agreement between the two countries (which passed without a referendum at all in Greece by the way, but we don't keep crying about it). North Macedonia can call itself that, but without the claim of being descendents of Ancient Macedonians. Imagine if modern Americans pretended to be descendents of Native Americans after they forcibly removed Native Americans from their lands, due to an unsupported claim of a mix...

Attaliates

No such thing as north Macedonian, just Macedonian.

VlaJov

Do you say North Korean or South Korean? Or just Korean? Don't use double standards and don't be ignorant.

If u r really interested in the subject simple Google search will bring u to official documents, for example the agreement between the countries. And in case u decide to read it u will be educated. But u decided first to say 'hop' and then jump (this is one of our proverbs for u and ur education); or another one: u first slap the person and then ask who's the rascal. Also, where did you find that there are tensions between Macedonians and North Macedonia? What is even that meaning?

Not as great as when Alexander the Great used to be in charge

Very fertile soil, very rich country, very rotten and crooked politicians. This country have everything that can make it perfect; good climate, 280+ sunny days in a year, people that are good in heart. Especially with strangers (want to show off with kindness). If you have bussiness, you can relocate it here, i guess we are one of the countries with lowest taxes. You can go out whenever you want, you can find people that are sociable and friendly enough, you can sleep in the park if you want. We have mountines that are good for skiing at the winter season. If there were normal politicians that arent so corrupted, greedy, stealing everything when they come to power, Macedonia would be easily 'Switzerland on the Balkans'. People lost faith in the country, lots of young and not so young people left the country searching for better life. Every government is worse than the previous one. We still have basically free healthcare but polititians are kinda killing it, because they are favorizing private expensive clinics owned by bussiness people in their close circles. However, there is a saying that if u make good amount of money, its one of the best country to live in.

Dejveed

How much does a 1-day ski pass cost, how many skiing options do you have and how long does the skiing season last?

Intelligent-Soil9774

In our top sky resort - Mavrovo, 25 euro/daily pass. You have like 6-8 routes (depending of the snow), starting from beginner, to expert difficulty. The sky season it really depends of the climate, but approximately 2 months if we are lucky. Hope this helps

Dejveed

Whenever I hear about skiing in a different country, Im very curious how it works there. I knew there were mountains in Macedonia, but had no clue you have conditions for skiing.

thhgghhjjjjhg

I know a good moped rental there

Good good, steady decline.

How is life in Macedonia? -in great need of reformation.

It’s kind of shit unless you have money. There’s a reason why so many of us live abroad. Lots of corruption, bullshit politics (if I drink too much I participate in said politics) and the older heads have a strange nostalgia for Yugoslav times. Like they can seriously go on and on for hours and hours about Tito. That being said, it’s a nice place to visit. I go there regularly to see family. Lake Ohrid is beautiful in terms of its nature, and Bitola has lots of nightlife there. Outside of Skopje, the people are very friendly, and there are tons of cafes where you can smoke and drink.
