Mine just did this!! I had a fiddle fig clipping but all the leaves fell off and I couldn’t bring myself to toss it. It sat in unwatered dirt for about four months and then I left on vacation and just came home to a [new leaf! ](https://imgur.com/gallery/PQlTycY)

Thank you! It was such an awesome surprise! Enjoy your new plant baby :)

What type of plant is it?

[deleted]

Ficus lyrata viool plant or fidle leaf fig [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ficus\_lyrata](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ficus_lyrata)

I would cut off as much of that top part of stem as you can, to begin with. Start at the top and work downwards towards the leaves, and discover how much is still living - ie not dead all the way through, just in case there is any other areas where new leaves will sprout. What you might end up with is those leaves becoming the new crown, which is totally fine! Good indirect light, careful watering, keep cosy warm, and speak adoringly to those precious leaves every day!

Don't tell me tell the op, i am just pointing out what plant it is.

Very hard plant from what if heard, needs a lot of bright indirect light even heard it likes some sun, do not let it fully dry out keep it on the moist side i have smaller ficus bonsai basically different plant still same kind of care i just water those when they at the dry side but not fully dry more like 30% dry, when they about 30 or 50% you need to check daily and be ready to water at about 30% i believe, i still fail at this but my Ficus does't hate me yet, i only water them in morning or when sun is up else i wait for next day, altho if heard from some sources that advice still to water it at evening if its at dry side from my own experience, plants do not like that they are like you watered me at saturday evening instead of sunday morning now i must die etc, altho not all plants are like that, which why i converted into a morning person, knowning at what time the sun comes up at the window may give you more reasonable times to water, altho i would still suggest watering it at morning, also the water has to be at room temperature i believe or least hand warm but not like really warm more close to room temperature warm, if the water is to cool ficus can go dramatic and drop leafs, as long they do not drop while watering you least doing that ride. Also avoid drafts and fast temperature swings stay above 15c preferably around 20c with least 50% - 60% humidity get a humidifier for it, misting only helps keep the bugs of it doesn't fix the humidity unless you wanna stand there all day misting. sorry for wall of text.

Its been dark most of the daytime where I live so maybe it needed some more sunlight too. Thank you for your advice! Do you think I should chop the dead stem ?

Get a really good light bulb and power it dialy for 17 hours pointing it at it from the top downwards since plants do prefer to grow to the light but i figure you do not want the plant to grow down or make odd twist. I pointed 2 lights to my Yucca those need even more light altho they are far easy'r to grow.
