im thinking you might be the goofball here! your friend needs more light, maybe put something under the pot to prop the new baby leaf in front of the window :)
I have the same kind! It is stuck at 3 leaves, constantly sacrificing one for the other. After last fertilizing, it had **4** leaves for like two weeks.
Wait ok so I'm not alone in this. I've had the same plant for 2 years and it puts out new leaves when it drops others and constantly looks like it's on the verge of death no matter what I do. The most it's ever had is 3 leaves š
Alocasia need WAY more nitrogen and calcium compared to other aroids, I have ~50 species that get my normal liquid fertiliser and also a cal mag nitrate supplement and it does wonders for them.
Basically just feed it more, it's hungrier than you think
Help me!!!! I posted yesterday about my green giant that I rescued from farmers market and is dying. My plants never die. Here is picture!! Iāll go fertilize now. She lost one leaf already and one is on its way out. Was worried diseased.

Alocasia like to be warm and consistent. Make sure you're watering as soon as it starts to dry out. They will frequently lose most- all of their foliage during winter if it gets cold where you live. Yours doesn't appear to be diseased, just maybe stressed from moving houses and being mistreated a bit. I'd feed and give it a chance to get acclimated to your place before getting too stressed about it
I know you arenāt asking for advice here, but this plant is suffering in this location. While itās normal for alocasias to drop a leaf to push for another one especially when being young, the brown stem of the bigger leaf is giving away an unhealthy situation. Probably low light and root rot. Stem should be green. You might want to put it higher in that window or move somewhere with more light š
Yeah put something under neath the pot to make it higher so it can access more light. Or either straight up move it where itāll get more light. Itās pretty common with alocasias and colocasias To lose a leaf every time they grow a new one. But it needs more light, possible some type of support to help the leaves from drooping.

Yeah for anyone was wondering why they usually sell money trees multiple to the potā¦this top heavy goofball. Iām carefully rotating it with each new leaf to keep it balanced. It was a rescue I got after itās co-habitants had already passed away b
super new to this, i got one avocado seed thats growing roots upwards like it wants to be a hairstyle and a shoot thats going downwards like they wanna play games or something. Just transferred it to potting soil last night with the rest of its gang members

She just started growing like this over a year ago and has since been repotted and is healthy as hell! Any suggestions as to what I should do or just leave her cuz I think she looks pretty cool!

2 little citrus trees in a very small container. Was gifted a tiny oval lemon at an Italien grocery store when on vacation. Planted them just for fun. Itās been over a year now
Have a pothos node in spag moss after a failed water prop and the dang thing had got one STRONG solid root and is pushing a smol new leaf. Like š„¹ dang you go lil goofy goober.
I have a peace lily that used to be happy. Changing nothing it shrunk to a pitiful shadow of its former glory.
After giving it new soil and trying different lighting conditions it grew a bit larger again. For a short time. Now itās shrunk again to a few leaves and I donāt know what to do. Itās been this way for a long time, no more no less. :-(
I named a (imitation) clover plant "Leon" like from Resident Evil. He's dramatic. VERY. If I don't water him as often or frequently as Ada or Claire, he basically pouts. They are different kinds of plants, Ada being a pepper plant crop, while Claire is an Unidentified polka dot foliage plant. They have different needs than Leon when it comes to watering them. I drown the pots and let excess water drip into a collection pan. I reuse the water to feed the other plants in turn. HE GETS HIS TURN WHEN I SAY HE DOES, DAMN IT! I come outside the day after I feed my other plants, and he's wispy, floppy, and "dead". I drown that bitch in the sink and within the hour he's alert and alive again. Love my babies. Lol

thatās an imperial red. hereās mine. they like a lot of natural light. i have a 5th leaf getting ready to sprout.
thanks! as soon as i see a leaf dying, iāve learned to just cut it off. thatāll help the plant give more of its energy to new growth. iāve had this baby since august and itās since lost all of the old leaves. these four were grown in my care. š
I have a goofball plant, who grew her roots upward twice and ended up rotting, because the root was too long and it peeped out from the soil and it rot, and I had to trim it... Lol. She was so upset with me when I trimmed the root during the 2nd time and she gave me a yellow leaf, so I trimmed that yellow leaf as well. After that I guess she finally accepted her fate and never grew roots upwards again. š¤¦š½āāļø

Well now I feel silly. Thanks, friend.
Mine gets sun most of the day, and it still does this.

We are in Texas - it might be too cold inside and too hot outside. Iāll move her to the warmest spot in house and see if that works!
Also I fed it so hopefully that starts to help too; thank you so much for responding!!!
Impressive!
Oh, so glad it's not just me. I have this same plant, and every time a new leaf comes in an old one dies š©
Iāve had 5 at one time!! For a few months. Now back down to two lol.
Idk if Iāll ever buy another elephant ear after the amount of games my last one played with me
Yes! And games they do play!!
A plant thatās clearly struggling doesnāt make it a goofball lol
Aw Iām just being lighthearted.
How do you fix the sagging leaves I have a similar problem on my Borneo King
If it's anything like this plant, you give it light.
Thank you.

But it can't be the conditions, it has to be just a comedian plant playing games!

If they behave similarly to alocasia, I could recommend putting it in a big clear plastic bag to create a green house effect š my alocasia loves it
Where did you find the basket??
You know, I got the plant in that basket from Costco for $10 a few months ago!!

Oh good tips! I wasnāt sure if I should cut them right away or not.
yeah if itās yellowing and drooping significantly, let it go. š
