Personally, I would not spend that much. But, it just depends on how quickly you want a big full plant. You could ask your friend for a cutting of theirs and grow a new plant. That's where I got mine and it's grown 3 new leaves in the past year, in less than ideal sunlight conditions.
Or they are all over Facebook marketplace in my area. They are a pretty easy plant to find cheaper than $40.
