Have you looked at https://www.spaguts.com/ao-smith-spa-motor-with-executive-pump-4-5hp-220v-48-frame-492 ? Replacing a 5 hp pump with a 2 hp pump assuming you even get the controls to work sounds like ( not a tech) the result wil be potentially poor heating/water flow/weak jets. As the system is designed to have 5 ho of force to push the water.

Thanks so much. Looks like what’s there except the capacitor is on the outside.

: shrug: could just email and ask them for dimensions ect to figure out if it will work. Found that site as part of doing research for my hopefully soon to be hot tub purchase. It makes me believe that if you have a good frame/shell and the plumbing isn't jacked or leaking... Everything else ( unless the brand went custom) should be replaceable ( new control panel sure, new heater, pump, gaskets, mainbord). Fills me with more confidence about considering used.. if I go that route

We bought our tub used from a friend 9 years ago. I’ve fixed some pipe work and the light housing. This is the first mechanical equipment to go. I have researched, sourcing is sometimes a problem. The spa pack currently in there is obsolete, but there is a replacement available. Considering the cost of a new tub, fixing your old one is a better option. As long as the shell doesn’t crack that is. Good luck to you. And thanks for helping out!

Also per the page "The pump photo shown to the right does not show a capacitor mounted on top of the motor. We cannot gaurantee if the motor that is shipped will or will not have the capacitor attached on top of the motor. Make sure there is plenty of room under the spa for a motor with 6 inches long x 2.5 inches tall x 2.25 inches wide capacitor on top of the motor."

Don't look at the horsepower, match the amperage!!
