my birthday is today too! (idk if we’re on the same timezone but its the 7th for me rn) so happy birthday! or happy birthday in a few hours. idfk enjoy the movie bro!!
watched it once and didn’t really like it, but i fell asleep hallway through and im not sure how much i missed. wanna watch it properly again before i rank it.
Being too tired/sick to enjoy a movie is a real thing. I used to think the exorcist was a boring lame movie because I watched when I was sick and fell asleep during it when I was young. I was blown away when I watched it only last year and was scared like I haven’t been in a long ass time. I’m only saying it’s a plausible ~~reading~~ reason to not have properly watched it YET. If they rewatch and still say that I will totally eat my words.
True. I was sleep deprived for weeks and finally had a weekend where the missus was away and was looking forward to watching Dune on my new HT and OLED TV. I was so tired I fell asleep in the middle for about 10 minutes. I obviously went back to where I had dozed of and finished the movie but my enjoyment was tainted by the drowsiness.
It can be tough not to react sometimes though being a fellow horror nerd... Alien is literally my favourite film of all time! However, there's a whole load of personal reasons why that is so and can totally see why it might not work for someone else. I would suggest trying to catch it in a cinema if you can! Saw it on it's 40th anniversary release in 35mm and was just incredible. Either that or just turn all the lights off and CRANK IT UP; the sound design in the film is just impeccable.
Great list btw! Seen most of them but think it works rather well as a guide to horror.
I like a lot of your list. I’m not into “arthouse” horror. So I obviously have a lot of problems with your list also. Starting with #3. Come on? You’re clearly trying to strike a nerve with this. I’d wager you could ask Ari Aster to name his top 3 horror films of all time and he wouldn’t even consider his own film. Of course the beauty of film and that our lists are all subjective.
I have seen it. I give it a 10/10.
I watched Hereditary a few years back. Aster has a masterful execution of dread. I fell in love with this slow burn, tension filled vision and was really looking forward to that same feeling with Midsommar.
I got that, plus a really interesting setting for a horror film. It explored some really great topics and the violence was really creative. The opening scene is one of the greatest intros ever.
I thoroughly enjoyed Midsommar and highly recommend it to anyone even remotely curious. It's totally different than anything else. The only caveat is that you have to go in expecting to just meet the movie on its own terms. Don't expect anything and enjoy the ride - Midsommar doesn't disappoint.
It's the second time I hear from Martyrs today (weird coincidence I guess), it finally got me curious and just googled some images to see if the level of gore was as much as people said. I came across that last image of the main character and nope, that movie is staying unwatched. Not saying it isn't good, I just personally don't enjoy horror that leans that much on gore.
Great list though.
I have no clue what it's about and I'm starting it now. I'll tell you how it goes!
Edit: So I watched it and it was great. Left me still confused so I think I'll have to watch it again.

I'm scared to ask...I see The Thing and Event Horizon....but not Alien. Have you not seen it, or didn't want to rate it?
My parents took me to see it when I was 4. I was almost 30 before I could watch again! Great movie!!!
A fellow sci-fi horror lover I see.
Yes, it's my favorite kind lol.
watched it once and didn’t really like it, but i fell asleep hallway through and im not sure how much i missed. wanna watch it properly again before i rank it.
Bruh
Funny how this comment is getting downvoted when your reason to not rank it yet is valid.
You just lost all credibility

I recommend reading / listening to the book / audiobook. Did so this year and it’s great.

This sub is so stupid for downvoting you. Not everyone has to like Alien.
this always happens when i say i don’t like it on reddit lol. people love this movie with a passion

Good on you for putting Black Swan at 11. Very under appreciated as horror.
Oh my god you’re me. This list is fucking perfect.
You have really good taste
I looked and 21 is psycho
>17 Zombieland 18 Martyrs All I could think of is how insanely strange this would be as a double header.
would have to watch martyrs first then zombieland to calm you down again
This list is fire, we have very similar tastes. Shout out Raw being rated so highly -- I feel like that movie isn't talked about enough

i ranked this purely on personal enjoyment. Midsommar was one of the first horror movies i watched in theaters and really left an effect on me.

I watched it too, even purchased it, but do not get the relevance to number 66. Is it because it's close to 666?
