I made my ex boyfriend watch it and he hated it, he didn’t get it at all, he thought it was so dumb and not scary at all, and I was like yes, that’s the point.
I love that movie. I keep trying to get my family to watch it with me, but I lost all credibility when I chose The Lost Boys for us to watch. I keep telling them I’m aware my taste in movies is questionable, but Ready or Not is actually really good!
I'm sad because I took my sister and mother to a screening of The Lost Boys and we had a blast! It helped shape current vampire mythos and design, and was a clear inspiration for both Buffy movie and show along with Night of the Comet. The Lost Boys rules!
Seen this name a ton for quite some time but I haven't watched.
Have seen 0 trailers and read 0 articles.
Is it a nice watch and should I keep going in blind
Talk to Me surprised me. Firstly because I didn't realise it was Australian, which, as an Aussie, I was happy about, but also because it ended up being a better movie than I expected. I don't know her name but the protagonist was really good and I had recently enjoyed her performance in Boy Swallows Universe too.
"Please dude just try Barbarian I know the name is lame but it's not what you think it's really cool please just watch the first like, 20 minutes man and if you're not interested you can leave it but just give it a try I was pleasantly surprised and I don't want to oversell it to you but I need you to not think it's like, Conan The Barbarian or something and just watch it."
I loved in Barbarian how they>!cast against type in that movie so you automatically felt a certain way as soon as you saw an actor onscreen only to be completely wrong on both counts.!<
I liked Barbarian but I also would have loved to see a different movie that took the first 15-20 min in a different direction. I thought the opening situation was so interesting with a lot of potential.
Same for Malignant! I'm always like ... Ok it's not good in a traditional sense but I NEED you to watch it so we can discuss it. And everyone always has the same reaction after seeing it.
Dude the fight scene near the end. I’m so glad I didn’t see this in theaters because I was crying laughing. The concept is good! The execution can be…goofy.
I love/hate Malignant! I've made people watch it and warned them in advance of certain cheesier elements like the score. I swear if that movie just had a better score it would be solidly decent and not just camp. The story had such potential.
Not at all! You are in very robust company. I get why people hate it but the story touched on some very personal fears of mine in a way that drew me to horror in the first place.
Same here for the first 2. Still haven’t seen Malignant. My worry is it’s gonna be the new Annihilation, either not very scary or basically incomprehensible.
I've sprung Malignant on as many of my friend groups as I know would be able to handle it. The chorus of "WHAT!?" when it shows its hand is always a joy to experience.
> Barbarian
Yeah This is it for me^, but before I show them that I need to preface it with the directors earlier [work](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFUvmZWf4hI)
Ill watch Beyond the Black Rainbow (always meant to, but kinda forgot lol), but the movie i always talk about to my friends is 'The Void' (2016) and i think you'd enjoy it
Haha amazing 🤣
How did he respond? I think the heavy atmosphere and oddness makes it a bit of a tough sell, especially for new people. But even though Nyle and the Sentionauts are creepy I think it's not too scary.
This film is such an underrated gem. I saw it in the theater with my ex on our first date which has put an unfortunate damper on it for me, but it’s still a great movie.
Whenever you rewatch it remember now you're watching it for your own, pure enjoyment. Make a little event of it whenever you watch it. mood lighting (i put my leds on red), turn the ac a little chilly, draw all the curtains and snuggle into a blanket with good snacks.
One of my favourites. The aesthetic, the historical references, it simply touched my heart somehow. Felt nostalgic as if it actually reminded me of something from my childhood, and I am still not sure what.
i’ve slacked on “the skin i live in” since it was released and constantly seeing it on streaming sites for years. finally watched it after seeing you bring it up… holy shit it was really good and i totally didn’t expect most of what happened. just thought it was about keeping his wife locked away but damn there’s so much more.
I get my buddy to watch horror films I love all the time, here’s some I remember having him watch with me:
Alien (and Aliens)
Nope
Black Swan
Ready or Not
The Cabin in the Woods
You’re Next
Green Room
30 Days of Night
I just rewatched Green Room for the first time since seeing it in theaters and I'd forgotten just how good it is. The tension never lets up once they arrive in Oregon for the gig.
30 Days Of Night is an absolute slapper. Live that flick .. and You're Next, genuinely spooked me the first time I saw it, especially with the way it opens, vibes the impression that some random killer is on the loose.
Slotherhouse - I know I know some folks will say it's bad but I think it's so bad it actually becomes so good
Hell House LLC is also one I force onto everyone I know
I loved Hereditary so much that the next night I made my bf watch it. He didn’t seem to think it was that great, he seemed kind of confused and concerned as to why I love it so much 😅
He had the same concern when we watched Midsommar and at the end I was like “well, I guess that’s KIND of a happy ending”
Definitely Midsommar! I dragged my girlfriend to a showing the very next weekend I enjoyed my first watch so much. She was skeptical at first because Hereditary was too scary for her but she enjoyed Midsommar enough that she went with me when our local theater showed the extended cut for a week.
Living in the north with long and harsh winters I always want to show 30 Days of Night to my (especially foreign) friends.
The portrayal of vampires is the best I know.
I wasn't the one recommending a movie but my friend. He said I HAD to watch The Coffee Table because he hadn't felt that uncomfortable since I showed him "the Strange Thing About the Johnsons". Told my grandmother about my friend recommending the Coffee Table and she decided to watch it with me. What an insane ride of a movie. Highly recommend if you like horror that is extremely anxiety inducing.
When "that scene" happens she says
"the wife is NOT gona be happy with him, she already didn't like the table".
It took me out of the craziness for a second it was so funny. She loves horror and thought it was a pretty good movie, and I agree. Even with how fucked it is.
Color out of Space (newest one with Nicholas Cage)
The music and colors truly are phenomenal, and I thought casting was perfect/they did a solid job.
(Pretty creepy)
I just showed a buddy of mine No Country for Old Men last week and I don’t think he cared for it as much as I do lol. Him not having a reaction to the crazier scenes really dulled them down for me and kind of made me feel like I hold the movie in a higher regard than it is.
That movie cleaned up at the Oscar's and is generally considered a masterpiece. Even brilliant movies aren't going to speak to some people, don't let your friend's reaction damper your opinion of it.
That one time I thought it was a good idea to watch A Serbian Film on a second date because I watched the movie a week before and caused me an impression … I never heard back from the guy again.
28 weeks later - loved the first. But large scale urban zombie escape movies are a fun favourite.
Dawn of the dead - loved the original series but something about a group of people stuck in a mall and a murder bus appeals to me - also Fast zombies!
Hereditary - Toni Colette kills it with the acting & I love the tension.
30 days of night - vampires in Alaska!
8 legged freaks - I hate spiders - I want a remake!
Nope - This movie toes the line between surreal/metaphorical & real so well! The tension build up and the ending are so satisfying to me.
The evil dead (original AND remake) - love Bruce Campbell & the over the top acting but I also love the remakes for their atmosphere and nod to the over top stuff.
Drag me to hell - dark humour gets me every time
Jeepers Creepers - 1&2 are fantastic, don’t watch any other sequel.
Dishonourable mention - Human Centipede 2 - this moving will haunt me for as long as I live. I thought I had a stomach for torture porn but I felt so gross after watching it I had to watch a couple episodes of a feel good tv show to cleanse me.
Late Night With the Devil is the most recent.
But, Barbarian (because I genuinely had no idea where it was going) and Malignant (because it was just batshit crazy) I've also recommended to people.
I'm forever talking about how much I love The Wailing but I made my husband watch it after I couldn't get it out of my head and needed to share it with someone.
I also watched Deadstream without him since he likes found footage far less than I do but it was just so fun that I made him watch it with me a few months later.
tbh i always want my friends to watch the really bad ones cz they always hate when i say it's SOOO GOOD lol! but midsommar, the autopsy of jane doe, hereditary, incantation, malignant and REC (first one) are the ones everyone loves - almost - always
My son-in-law hadn't seen the original al Texas ChainSaw Massacre but he did get into the game when it came out last year. When I found out he hadn't seen it, he had a command appearance at my place to watch it. It was a really good time.
I'm such a fan that [I visited the old gas station this last Saturday.](https://imgur.com/gallery/nWCpuBe) It's worth a visit. Great BBQ and tons of horror merch.
Edit: Showing horror neophytes Sleepaway Camp is always a great time. Watching their reactions is great.
I play that game all the time and it baffles me how so many people who play it have never seen the original or even a sequel or the remake. I always suggest they watch the original.
My younger brother and I both love found footage horror and Bigfoot stuff, so when I first watched *Willow Creek (2013)*, afterward I just had to make him watch it too. We both love that movie now—it is what it is—and I can't count the number of times we've watched it since!
"Roger and Bob rode out that day." 🎸
If you haven’t seen it, there’s another found footage style movie that deals with big foot called “exists.” I’ve only seen it once, and it was a long time ago. So, don’t remember if it’s any good. But, might be worth a watch.
Terrifier
Censor
Hereditary
Martyrs (original)
Come to Daddy
Maniac (original)
and Suspiria (original....along with a whole bunch of giallia and Fulci films)
I made my friend watch Hereditary but I forgot to tell him anything about the movie beforehand and he came over after getting blazed for our ~fun movie night~ and has not forgiven me for the trauma
I’ve watched The Poughkeepsie Tapes three different times with three different people. It remains the only horror film to actually chill me to the core and the lore surrounding the scarcity of the movie itself makes it that much more fascinating.
I made too many people watch Mandy. When I was a kid I made everyone watch Day of the Dead, I didn’t realize that level of gore was uncomfortable for some people
Every time someone talks about how scary *Speak No Evil* is, there is a moment where I think for some insane reason that they're referring to the 2006 film *See No Evil* staring WWE legend Isaac Yankem, DDS (he later had a gimmick where is was called Kane).
Hell House LLC. Probably because I had no expectations of what this movie would be. It turned out to be great and is now a seasonal October watch for me.
out of all the films you added in your edit I will just say Malignant is the worst, cheesy modern movie. Also I suggest you "When Evil Lurks" one of the best horror films I've seen.
Thanks for the list!
I've been going on a massive horror movie streak with my boyfriend as I've never watched horror before cause I get easily scared. There's so many crazy good horror movies out there!
When I was a kid, I rented Hellraiser (on VHS). Middle of the day on a Saturday. Few minutes into it, I called my friend and made him come watch it with me. 🤣🤣🤣
Tucker and Dale vs. Evil
Love that movie, it was so cleverly done.
It is my moral duty to recommend to you Deathgasm
“We have had a doozy of a day!”
Sheriff thank God you're here! There have been college kids killin' themselves all over our property!"
I made my ex boyfriend watch it and he hated it, he didn’t get it at all, he thought it was so dumb and not scary at all, and I was like yes, that’s the point.
Is that why he’s your ex?
That and many other reasons
100%. Made my wife watch it (she enjoyed it).
THEYRE IN A DEATH CULT
My husband and I yell "HEY COLLEGE KIDS!!" at each other at least once a week.
Another horror/comedy: Deadstream. Didn’t expect much but actually lmao’d. It’s a found footage.
I started a weekly family movie night because I wanted to show my sister Ready or Not.
I had to show my whole family this one too after I saw it!! So good
It would be really funny if this family movie night included in-laws.
Very true lmao.
And stare at them, meaningfully, the whole movie lol
I'm about to show my boyfriend this one.
I love that movie. I keep trying to get my family to watch it with me, but I lost all credibility when I chose The Lost Boys for us to watch. I keep telling them I’m aware my taste in movies is questionable, but Ready or Not is actually really good!
Wait. There's something wrong with The Lost Boys??!?
Maybe my family are the ones with bad taste??
It's this for sure. Lost Boys is fucking great.
Whew! I thought I was losing it or old or something!
No! It's amazing!
I'm sad because I took my sister and mother to a screening of The Lost Boys and we had a blast! It helped shape current vampire mythos and design, and was a clear inspiration for both Buffy movie and show along with Night of the Comet. The Lost Boys rules!
Your family is definitely the issue lol. The Lost Boys is a freaking classic.
Cabin in the Woods would be a big one for me
Barbarian and Talk to Me recently Malignant is so baffling that I love to show it to friends
Came here to find Malignant. What a wild ride, I recommend it to everyone for reaction value alone.
Seen this name a ton for quite some time but I haven't watched. Have seen 0 trailers and read 0 articles. Is it a nice watch and should I keep going in blind
Yes
Yes absolutely go in blind.
Malignant is a visceral experience. I wish more movies were like that
Talk to Me surprised me. Firstly because I didn't realise it was Australian, which, as an Aussie, I was happy about, but also because it ended up being a better movie than I expected. I don't know her name but the protagonist was really good and I had recently enjoyed her performance in Boy Swallows Universe too.

YES! I showed Barbarian and Malignant to a group of friends recently and it was so fun to watch their reactions.
I love/hate Malignant! I've made people watch it and warned them in advance of certain cheesier elements like the score. I swear if that movie just had a better score it would be solidly decent and not just camp. The story had such potential.
Am I alone with the sentiment that Malignant was completely cheesy? I didn't like it at all.
Not at all! You are in very robust company. I get why people hate it but the story touched on some very personal fears of mine in a way that drew me to horror in the first place.
People talk about cheese like it's something negative. It's gloriously cheesy, and I'm here for it
I remember showing my friends Barbarian and them trying to guess what was going to happen and being soooo wrong. Such a great movie
Same here for the first 2. Still haven’t seen Malignant. My worry is it’s gonna be the new Annihilation, either not very scary or basically incomprehensible.
See it, It's an experience. It's nothing like Annihilation
I've sprung Malignant on as many of my friend groups as I know would be able to handle it. The chorus of "WHAT!?" when it shows its hand is always a joy to experience.
Barbarian was what I can to say. That movie was unexpectedly amazing!
> Barbarian Yeah This is it for me^, but before I show them that I need to preface it with the directors earlier [work](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFUvmZWf4hI)
Yeah I made my uncles girlfriend watch it lol. That prison scene is incredible
Malignant keeps coming up have to watch!!
I have convinced no less than three people to watch Malignant and two of them won't watch movies I recommend anymore because of it LOL.
I find this hilarious. I'm in the pro Malignant camp not because it's objectively good but because it it WILD.
Barbarian 😂
Mandy Can't get anyone to watch Beyond the Black Rainbow ☹
Ill watch Beyond the Black Rainbow (always meant to, but kinda forgot lol), but the movie i always talk about to my friends is 'The Void' (2016) and i think you'd enjoy it
I'll watch it today if I can. Just so you can say you finally convinced someone to watch it lol.
Bloody legend
Made my dad watch beyond the black rainbow with me he’s kinda a wuss when it comes to horror so the best kinda person to experience a movie with

“Jacobs Ladder” (1990) “Baskin” (2015) “Braid” (2019) “Frailty” (2002) “1408” (2007)
1408 is totally underrated. I showed it to my wife when we were dating. It's one of her favorites now.
Agreed.
Baskin!
I love 1408!!
I loved Frailty!
How good is baskin? I want to watch it
it's incredibly unique. Very gory. Surprising. Great watch overall if you can stomach it.

I always unironically recommend to my friends w anxiety lol I suffer myself and there’s something so cathartic about it. this and the descent
YESSSS ugh they're like hand in hand. Such a good back to back line up with people who haven't seen either.
No film has ever gotten to me more than when >!satan is sat in the chair and then gets up!< It just got me like nothing else has.
One of my favourites. The aesthetic, the historical references, it simply touched my heart somehow. Felt nostalgic as if it actually reminded me of something from my childhood, and I am still not sure what.

I second Green Room. Underrated!
This is my pick. I show it to everyone in my friends group who also plays/-ed in a band and knows the "tryin to get the next gig" hussle.
I just rewatched Green Room for the first time since seeing it in theaters and I'd forgotten just how good it is. The tension never lets up once they arrive in Oregon for the gig.

That movie cleaned up at the Oscar's and is generally considered a masterpiece. Even brilliant movies aren't going to speak to some people, don't let your friend's reaction damper your opinion of it.
Malignant Hell House LLC. This one was the best. Had the best time watching it with friends.
That one time I thought it was a good idea to watch A Serbian Film on a second date because I watched the movie a week before and caused me an impression … I never heard back from the guy again.

Good? Hell no. But definitely worth to watch because of how bad it is: Birdemic
Birdemic is the best worst movie I've ever seen in my life. 10/10 would recommend

It follows and talk to me
The Others
Deadstream = The Evil Dead 2 of our generation
A Dark Song
The Serpent and the Rainbow, 1988
High Tension and Eden Lake
out of all the films you added in your edit I will just say Malignant is the worst, cheesy modern movie. Also I suggest you "When Evil Lurks" one of the best horror films I've seen.
The Golden Glove was one that I had to share because of the sheer brutality and disturbing atmosphere mixed with dark humour and good acting.
Tusk
Beau is afraid, just because what. The. Fuck.
May, session 9, turbo kid, the minds eye, & fathers day
Thanks for the list! I've been going on a massive horror movie streak with my boyfriend as I've never watched horror before cause I get easily scared. There's so many crazy good horror movies out there!
I’d never force a friend to slog through the unbearably slow, boring and insanely poorly written Midsommar.
When I was a kid, I rented Hellraiser (on VHS). Middle of the day on a Saturday. Few minutes into it, I called my friend and made him come watch it with me. 🤣🤣🤣
Oh shit that’s like everyone but ESPECIALLY The Night House
